• How can I modify command line in Ubuntu 10.04?

  I am using a vpn service from certain server. I was given with a root account, and when I connect with a root account, the command line looks like below. root@xa9g82:/etc/# Then I used useradd to add an account called 'temp' When I connected to the server with temp, then the command line only has a single character. $ The user information is not shown, neither the path. Also, note that, in root's command line I can use tab to automatically complete the filename, however 'temp's command line inserts tab space, when I press tab. It is very inconvenient. I am using Ubuntu 10.04. How can I resolve this issue?

• SQL Server - how to determine if indexes aren't being used?

  I have a high-demand transactional database that I think is over-indexed. Originally, it didn't have any indexes at all, so adding some for common processes made a huge difference. However, over time, we've created indexes to speed up individual queries, and some of the most popular tables have 10-15 different indexes on them, and in some cases, the indexes are only slightly different from each other, or are the same columns in a different order. Is there a straightforward way to watch database activity and tell if any indexes are not hit anymore, or what their usage percentage is? I'm concerned that indexes were created to speed up either a single daily/weekly query, or even a query that's not being run anymore, but the index still has to be kept up to date every time the data changes. In the case of the high-traffic tables, that's a dozen times/second, and I want to eliminate indexes that are weighing down data updates while providing only marginal improvement.

I was able to do one thing My text box only containing number by using this Regular Expression validation.in its property-Validation Expression i wrote "[0-9]+". This is working but now my requirement is to send bulk SMS & each number is separated by (,). I tried a lot but not getting the ans. so please help me to sort out this problem.

• Executing a file not a project

  I use Aptana Studio for my PHP projects. I have not learned it but just used with what I was able to do in it. Many features I still don't know how to use in it. At present, I have a HTML form and I want to write a .php script for the SEND button that it has. It is a submission script for the contact form. I want a simple PHP IDE with which I can execute a single PHP file or work with at least two or three files easily, without much mess. Please suggest a simple alternative to Aptana.

  Hello, I have a database full of rows like id,action,date 2,2,2010-03-01 3,2,2010-03-01 4,3,2010-03-01 5,3,2010-03-01 6,4,2010-02-01 7,4,2010-02-01 And I want to select all the count all the 2's and all the 3's and all the 4's. But I don't want to have to do 3 different SELECT COUNT() commands, is there a way to do this in a single command? Note, I want to display this as something like Action 2 = 2 Action 3 = 2 Action 4 = 2 (etc etc). And I will also need to specific a date (so it only counts all the 2,3,4,etc for dates between 2010-02-03 and 2010-03-01 for example)

  I'm building a MySQL query but I can't seem to get it right. I have four tables: - customers - orders - sales_rates - purchase_rates There is a 1:n relation 'customernr' between customers and orders. There is a 1:n relation 'ordernr' between orders and sales_rates. There is a 1:n relation 'ordernr' between orders and purchase_rates. What I would like to do is produce an output of all customers with their total purchase and sales amounts. So far I have the following query. SELECT c.customernr, c.customer_name, SUM(sr.sales_price) AS sales_price, SUM(pr.purchase_price) AS purchase_price FROM orders o, customers c, sales_rates sr, purchase_rates pr WHERE o.customernr = c.customernr AND o.ordernr = sr.ordernr AND o.ordernr = pr.ordernr GROUP BY k.bedrijfsnaam The result of the sales_price and purchase_price is far too high. I seem to be getting double counts. What am I doing wrong? Is it possible to perform this in a single query? Thank for your response!

I want to find the word AVG (case insensitive) which is not surrounded by <font color='black'> </font>. It can be part the word or single whole word. In the case of part of the text, the whole word containing the word AVG should not surrounded by that html tag How can I do it with Java?

• PHP: How to get <br/> working in a simplexml_load_file() var.

  Hi everybody! I am loading an xml in php via simplexml_load_file(). I load the file with that: $xml = simplexml_load_file('flash/datas/datas.xml'); And the access my content like that: $descText = $xml->aboutModule->chocolaterie->desc The text from desc is well registred in my $descText, but all the <br/> of the text disappear... So my long text is on a single line, not so good :-/ Do you know how to solve that? Is there a special traitement to do one the $xml var? Or someting else? Thank you in advance for your help!

• Running a piece of code for a certain amount of time in C#?

  Hi I am working on a robot that is capable of motion detection using a webcam. I am doing this in C# The robot moves too fast, so I want to turn it on/off at short time intervals in order to reduce its speed. For example, it will start the engine then wait 0.5 second and turn it off, this cycle repeats every 2 seconds. This way, its speed wont be too fast. I would like to include this in a single function called Move() I just don't know how to do this, especially because my motion detection code runs like 20 times a second. Depending on the position of the obstacle, I may need to disable the Move() function and activate other functions that let the robot move into other directions. Any ideas/suggestions on where am I supposed to start? Thanks a lot!

• Criteria: search for two different entity classes...

  Hi! I have a "super entity" SuperEntity and three entities ChildEntity1, ..., ChildEntity3 which extends the super class. It's easy to search for all entities in the database, i.e. we could use session.createCriteria(SuperEntity.class); It's no problem to search for one specific entity type, too, just replace the SuperEntity with any of the children to look for entities of that type. But I have a problem when allowing 'multiple choice' for the types. I.e., it could be neccessary to search all entities of type 1 and 2, but not of type 3. A first idea was to create two independent queries and join the results in a final list - but that would destroy the paging which uses offset and limit functionality of the database... Is there a possibility in Criteria to join two different queries in one single result list? Kind regards, RoCMe

• EF Linq Product Sum when no records returned

  I’ve seen variations of this question all over the place but none of the answers work for me. Most of them are just trying to sum a single column too – nothing more complex such as the sum of a product as below: public double Total { get { return _Context.Sales.Where(t => t.Quantity > 0) .DefaultIfEmpty() .Sum(t => t.Quantity * t.Price); } } If no rows are returned I want to return zero. However if no rows are returned the .Sum() fails. There are various options of trying to insert Convert.ToDouble and using null coalesce operators, but they all still gave me errors. I’m sure I am missing a simple way to do this – any help greatly appreciated after too long banging head against google brick wall!

I have been doing this so far for each table, but with more than 70 of these it becomes cumbersome and boring to do. Is there a way to generate the following code dynamically, And swap out the hardcoded tablenames with the values from the parameterlist? • Allocate from buffer in C

  I am building a simple particle system and want to use a single array buffer of structs to manage my particles. That said, I can't find a C function that allows me to malloc() and free() from an arbitrary buffer. Here is some pseudocode to show my intent: Particle* particles = (Particle*) malloc( sizeof(Particle) * numParticles ); Particle* firstParticle = <buffer_alloc>( particles ); initialize_particle( firstParticle ); // ... Some more stuff if (firstParticle->life < 0) <buffer_free>( firstParticle ); // @ program's end free(particles); Where <buffer_alloc> and <buffer_free> are functions that allocate and free memory chunks from arbitrary pointers (possibly with additional metadata such as buffer length, etc.). Do such functions exist and/or is there a better way to do this? Thank you!

• My tricky SQL Update query not working so well.

I have two parameters one being the ID and another being the row number (as you can select which row you want from the GUI) this part of the code works fine, this returns one column of a single row.   Do critical sections inside trivial int accessors actually do anything useful? int GetFoo() { CriticalSection(crit_id); return foo; } void SetFoo(int value) { CriticalSection(crit_id); foo = value; } Is it possible for two threads to be attempting to read and write foo simultaneously? I'd have thought 'no' unless integers are written byte-at-a-time, in which case I can see the use. But I'd have though modern cpus would read/write integers in a single atomic action...

  So I have a couple of arrays $array_1 = Array('one','two','three'); $array_2 = Array('red','blue','green'); Is there a dynamic way to create the Setters and Getters for an array with single value entries? So the class would be something like: class xFromArray() { } So the above if I passed $array_1 it would generate something like this: private $one; setOne($x) { $one = $x; } getOne() { return $one; } if I passed $array_2 it would generate something like this: private $red; setRed($x) { $red = $x; } getRed() { return $red; } So I would call it somehow like this? • Is vim able to detect the natural language of a file, then load the correct dictionary ?

  I am using several languages, and currently I am obliged to indicate to vim with which of these the spell check must be done. Is there a way to set up vim so that it automatically detects the correct one? I vaguely remember that in a previous version of vim, when the spell check was not integrated, the vimspell script made this possible. It would be even better if this could apply not only to a file but also to a portion of a file, since I frequently mix several languages in a single file. Of course, I would like to avoid to load several dictionaries simultaneously.

• Does /boot safe on top of a lvm LV (logical volume)?

  Title already asked the question. More specifically, I read in some documents that logical volumes are nice in general but not for /boot in a linux system. They say that bootloaders don't understand LVM volumes, so create a separate partition for /boot out of lvm. I recently installed Ubuntu server (9.10) for my home server, but by default /boot is created in the LVM. Everything is fine now, but I am not sure it is safe to use /boot in LVM. Second question is do I really need a physical partition (volume)(pv) for /boot or is it equally fine if I put it into a logical volume (lv) on top of a single shared volume group. • port an iOS (iPhone) app to mac?

  Is there a preferred way to go about this? The app in question is not too large . . . single-player game that I wrote over the course of a couple of months. EDIT: I should add that I have no experience with mac development . . . outside of what comes naturally with being an iOS developer. EDIT: Classes heavily used in the game: subclasses of NSObject, UIView, and UIViewController. I don't know much about NSView, but I'm pretty sure all the UIView stuff will work in that class. Also some use of UITableViewController. I do also have Game Center, but I can leave that part out for now. There is no multi-touch.

• Save response from certain WEB resources while recording scenario

  I need to create scenario for user interaction with single-page WEB application. The application does lots of AJAX calls in order to authenticate user and get user data. So I created simple scenario with HTTP Test Script Recorder and tried to record my script. Everything went well, however I noticed that whilst request data is recorder properly, the response data is not recorder at all. I tried to enable Add assertions and Regex matching - but that didn't work as well. Can you please advice how do I record response texts as well?

The table will hold 80 questions each with 4 possible options plus the correct answer. When retrieving the questions and options from the database I will randomly select 25 questions and their options. Is it better to make a single column for all questions, options, and correct answers? For example: ID | Q | OPT1 | OPT2 | OPT3 | OPT4 | ANS Or would it be better to make a column for each individual question, option, and correct answer? I can't have multiple apps on the app store and to avoid confusion among people using these apps I must have them contained to a single application that gives the user the capability to launch any application in the wrapper.   In order to fix a bug, I have to iterate over all the rows in a table, updating a cached count of children to what its real value should be. The structure of the things in the table form a tree. In rails, the following does what I want: Thing.all.each do |th| Thing.connection.update( " UPDATE #{Thing.quoted_table_name} SET children_count = #{th.children.count} WHERE id = #{th.id} " ) end Is there any way of doing this in a single MySQL query? Alternatively, is there any way of doing this in multiple queries, but in pure MySQL? I want something like UPDATE table_name SET children_count = ( SELECT COUNT(*) FROM table_name AS tbl WHERE tbl.parent_id = table_name.id ) except the above doesn't work (I understand why it doesn't).

  I just watched a video where they used Viterbi algorithm to determine whether certain words in a sentence are intended to be nouns/verbs/adjs etc, they used transition and emission probabilities, for example the probability of the word 'Time' being used as a verb is known (emission) and the probability of a noun leading onto a verb (transition). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O_q82UMtjoM&feature=relmfu (The video) How can I find a good dataset of transition and emission probabilities for this use-case? Or EVEN just a single example with all the probabilities displayed, I want to use realistic numbers in a demonstration.
