  This is more of a question of curiosity but does anyone know how negative precision values are handled in C++? For example: double pi = 3.14159265; cout.precision(-10); cout.setf(ios::fixed, ios::floatfield); cout << pi << endl; I've tried this out and using GCC and it seems that the precision value is ignored but I was curious if there is some official line on what happens in this situation.

• Flex Datagrid File Download old value

  Hi, We use a AIR client and WAMP server. Got a weird issue with Flex datagrid. When I download an image by double clicking on a datagrid row, the file gets downloaded correctly. But when I go on to select another row for download, even though the correct parameters are being passed, it again prompts download of old file. Upon cancelling that and trying again, it picks up the selected row. • How do you keep yourself and your co-workers from creating huge classes

  Stackoverflow users, How do you keep yourself from creating large classes with large bodied methods. When deadlines are tight, you end up trying to hack things together and it ends up being a mess which would need to be refactored. For me, the one way was to start with test driven development and that lends itself to good class design as well as the SRP (Single Responsibility Principle). I also see developers just double clicking on controls and typing out line after line in the event method that gets fired. What are your suggestions?

  Depending on your system, the word separator characters change the way you can select/delete a word (e.g. by double clicking on it or using a key combination with your keyboard). The fact is that I hate the default behavior of OSX. For example: Take the following line of code: obj.attr1.innerAttr. If my cursor is at the end of the line and I press alt + backspace, it will delete everything and not just innerAttr. I only found some apps (like iTerm) which let you change the word separator characters. Is there a way to change it for the whole system?

The data is stored in a table that looks like this: CREATE table sales_data ( sales_time timestamp , sales_amt double ) I need to write parameterized queries that will allow me to do the following: Return the change in sales_amt between times t2 and t1, where t2 and t1 are separated by a time interval (integer) of N. This query will allow for querying for weekly changes in sales (for example). Return the change in change of sales_amt between times t2 and t1, and time t3 and t4. Thats is to calculate the value (val(t2)-val(t1)) - (val(t4)-val(t3)). where t2 and t1 are separated by the same time interval (interval N) as the interval between t4 and t3. This query will allow for querying for changes in weekly changes in sales (for example).

  I use Netbeans (nightly build) for Ruby on Rails development and I'm looking to beef up my macros. I've created a few myself: copy identifier: select-identifier copy-to-clipboard paste clipboard over identifier: select-identifier paste-from-clipboard double quote element select-element-next "\"" single quote element: select-element-next "'" But I'm looking for other useful ones and Google is giving me nothing. The record macro feature usually doesn't work too well so I'd rather just "write" the macros myself but I can't even find a reference that lists what commands (like "select-identifier") are actually available. Any Netbeans macro gurus out there?

The final step is actually installing Wordpress, which usually involves pointing your browser to install.php and filling out a form in the GUI. • Launching desired version of XCode from Finder

  My google-fu has failed me, and I guess this may be basic OS X/Xcode knowledge but.... When I double click .xcodeproj files, I'm getting the Beta I have installed launching instead of the stable release - which is the one I actually want. I have tried changing the launch program in the finder info window, but it always displays as "Xcode" and doesn't seem to accept that there are different versions - even though it offers them to me in the drop down list. Is there an xcode setting for this? Thanks.

What should happens: 1) Click once on icon with mouse left button then Balloon with some text should appears 2) Double click on icon will show again app window On Windows 7 MouseDoubleClick is also fired but window is not showing. I don't know why.   What is the most evil or dangerous code fragment you have ever seen in a production environment at a company? I've never encountered production code that I would consider to be deliberately malicious and evil, so I'm quite curious to see what others have found. The most dangerous code I have ever seen was a stored procedure two linked-servers away from our core production database server. The stored procedure accepted any NVARCHAR(8000) parameter and executed the parameter on the target production server via an double-jump sp_executeSQL command. That is to say, the sp_executeSQL command executed another sp_executeSQL command in order to jump two linked servers. Oh, and the linked server account had sysadmin rights on the target production server.

  So I get the time at the beginning of the code, run it, and then get the time. struct timeval begin, end; gettimeofday(&begin, NULL); //code to time gettimeofday(&end, NULL); //get the total number of ms that the code took: unsigned int t = end.tv_usec - begin.tv_usec; Now I want to print it out in the form "**code took 0.007 seconds to run" or something similar. So two problems: 1) t seems to contain a value of the order 6000, and I KNOW the code didn't take 6 seconds to run. 2) How can I convert t to a double, given that it's an unsigned int? Or is there an easier way to print the output the way I wanted to?

  Something I see ppl define the variable like this: b2World *_world; b2Body *_body; CCSprite *_ball; instead of b2World *world; b2Body *body; CCSprite *ball; I familiar with the second one, but not the first one. So, I checked the Wikipedia about naming convention: Names beginning with double underscore or an underscore and a capital letter are reserved for implementation (compiler, standard library) and should not be used (e.g. __reserved or _Reserved). So, is that any special meaning which is start with "_"? The wiki page.

• Is it valid for RSS feeds to include images with relative paths?

  I have an app which reads lots of RSS feeds. Someone added a feed recently that includes images in the html portion with relative URLS (i.e. it didn't include the http://www.domain.com/ part in front). Is this valid html for an RSS feed? I thought not, but I tried adding the feed to my Google reader and it picked up the images correctly, so they must be doing something smart where they guess the domain based on the feed's url parameter or something. Even if it's not valid, how common is it to see feeds like this in the wild? To display it correctly would require you to parse the html in the feed and find/replace parts of it to insert full URL's, so this seems wrong. But wanted to double check.

• Custom validation summary

  I'm using the UpdateModel method for validation. How do I specify the text for the error messages as they appear in the validation summary? Sorry, I wasn't entirely clear. When I call UpdateModel(), if there is parsing error, for example if a string value is specified for a double field, a "SomeProperty is invalid" error message is automatically added to the ModelState. How do I specify the text for said automatically generated error message? If I implement IDataErrorInfo as suggested, it's error message property gets called for every column, regardless of whether the default binder deems it valid or not. I'd have to reimplement the parse error catching functionality that I get for free with the default binder. Incidentally, the default "SomeProperty is invalid" error messages seem to have mysteriously dissappeared in the RC. A validation summary appears and the relevant fields are highlighted but the text is missing! Any idea why this is? Thanks again and I hope all this waffle makes sense!

  So from the code below, I have managed to get the string *tempstring into an array chunk. Now chunk[0] contains 'a' while chunk[1] contains 'aa'. I am trying to format chunk[0] to '0a' which I can using the replaceObjectAtIndex method. Here's my question: How do I detect that chunk[0] is formatted as 'a' and not '0a'. I want to check all the indexes and make sure they have double digits and if not use a 0 to prefix it. • .NET Decimal = what in SQL?

  What's the best data type in SQL to represent Decimal in .NET? We want to store decimal numbers with up to 9 decimal place precision and want to avoid rounding errors etc on the front end. Reading about data types, it appears using Decimal in .NET is the best option because you will not get rounding errors, although it is a bit slower than a Double. We want to carry this through down to the DB and want minimum conversion issues when moving data through the layers. Any suggestions?

• Disappearing Inlineshapes

  I frequently edit files that have numerous inlineshapes, one per paragraph. One of the edits I make is to eliminate "double" paragraph marks either using Search and Replace or a simple macro that performs the same operation (e.g., search for "^p^p" and replace with "^p"). This operation works fine in Word 97-2003 documents (.doc), but when I try it on .docx documents, I lose all of the inlineshapes. The .docx files seem to ignore the inlineshape, therefore seeing the paragraphs containing them as "empty". Search and Replace sees "^p^p", replaces it with "^p", and the graphic goes away. Any thoughts on how to work around this?

  I have an MS Access program in use in multiple locations. It connects to MS SQL Server tables, but the server name is different in each location. I am looking for the fastest way to test for the existence of a server. • Reference non-GAC version of DLL in Visual Studio 2010

  This is similar to Add Non-GAC reference to project but the solutions presented there don't seem to help. I have a WinForms UI Library (Krypton from ComponentFactory) installed in the GAC. There's a bug I want to track down in that library, so I added the source code to my solution, removed the old references from my WinForms project to Krypton DLLs, added them back as a project references, ensured Copy Local is set to true, double-checked that the path (on reference properties tab) points to my local project, and... ...the GAC version is still being used while debugging. I cannot set a breakpoint in the Krypton source, Debugger.Break() or other code changes to not execute, and when I start the Visual Studio 2010 debugger, I see a Loading from ... GAC_MISL message relating to the Krypton DLLs flash by in the VS 2010 status bar. The DLLs are not copied to the WinForm's Debug folder. How can I reference the "project" version of the files while debugging while leaving them registered in the GAC?
