[SEO] sitemap.xml What is the precision of the priority field?

Unfortunately the specification does not tell anything about precision. The xml scheme definition states that it is of the type xsd:decimal: <xsd:restriction base="xsd:decimal"> <xsd:minInclusive value="0.0"/> <xsd:maxInclusive value="1.0"/> </xsd:restriction> I have a sitemap generator that uses up to 10 positions after decimal point. Where often only the last few positions differ. These numbers are perfectly right according to the xsd, but yet i found some pages(3,4) that state that only 0.0, 0.1, 0.2, .., 1.0 are valid values. How will the search engines react to such a sitemap? Will some just round the value? I know that it is unlikely that someone can provide an answer to that question, unless he works for that search engine, but i think experiences will also do.

Solution for distributing MANY simple network tasks?

I would like to create some sort of a distributed setup for running a ton of small/simple REST web queries in a production environment. For each 5-10 related queries which are executed from a node, I will generate a very small amount of derived data, which will need to be stored in a standard relational database (such as PostgreSQL). What platforms are built for this type of problem set? The nature, data sizes, and quantities seem to contradict the mindset of Hadoop. There are also more grid based architectures such as Condor and Sun Grid Engine, which I have seen mentioned. I'm not sure if these platforms have any recovery from errors though (checking if a job succeeds). What I would really like is a FIFO type queue that I could add jobs to, with the end result of my database getting updated. Any suggestions on the best tool for the job?

Sorry for bad English :( Suppose i can preliminary organize recipes and ingredients data in any way. How can i effectively conduct search of recipes by user-provided ingredients, preferably sorted by max match - so, first going recipes that use maximum of provided ingridients and do not contain any other ingrs, after them recipes that uses less of provided set and still not any other ingrs, after them recipes with minimum additional requirements and so on? All i can think about is represent recipe ingridients like bitmasks, and compare required bitmask with all recipes, but it is obviously a bad way to go. And related things like Levenstein distance i don't see how to use here. I believe it should be quite common task...

Is this safe on a production server?

I have a database application (or search engine) which is called Solr. I connect to it via port 8983. I do this from php code, so I add and remove records from it via php. On my server I have a firewall. I have set this firewall to only allow connections to and from this port (8983) from the ip adress of my own server. In other words, only allow servers IP to access this port. Is that safe? Or am I thinking all wrong here? Will others be able to "simulate" my ip adress and act as the server? This is because otherwise others may add/remove records as they want from their own ip adresses... Thanks

jQuery: How to collect values from sliders into simple object with id as keys

I have several jQuery UI Sliders and I want to collect their values. Thought it would be a simple task, but when I was going to do it I got stuck and not quite sure what to do anymore :p The object I would like to end up with should look something like this: { a: 80, b: 90, c: 20, ... } I can do it manually like this: var values = { a: $('#a').slider('value'), b: $('#b').slider('value'), c: $('#c').slider('value'), ... }; But that's a bit tedious, especially if I need to add or remove or rename. Was hoping I could do something with the map or each function or something like that, but I can't figure it out. Anyone have some clever ideas?

But instead of the slide effect for navigating to different tabs, I am trying to use the FADE effects to show the tab contents. I have no idea how to do this in mootools. Customized generation/filtering resources with maven

I wonder what is the Maven way in my situation. My application has a bunch of configuration files, let's call them profiles. Each profile configuration file is a *.properties file, that contains keys/values and some comments on these keys/values semantics. The idea is to generate these *.properties to have unified comments in all of them. My plan is to create a template.properties file that contains something like #Comments for key1/value1 key1=${key1.value} #Comments for key2/value2 key2=${key2.value} and a bunch of files like #profile_data_1.properties key1.value=profile_1_key_1_value key2.value=profile_1_key_2_value #profile_data_2.properties key1.value=profile_2_key_1_value key2.value=profile_2_key_2_value Then bind to generate-resources phase to create a copy of template.properties per profile_data_*, and filter that copy with profile_data_*.properties as a filter. The easiest way is probably to create an ant build file and use antrun plugin. But that is not a Maven way, is it? Other option is to create a Maven plugin for that tiny task. Somehow, I don't like that idea (plugin deployment is not what I want very much).

Hi Folks, Is there a tool out there to measure the actual Render time of an element(s) on a page? I don't mean download time of the resources, but the actual time the browser took to render something. I know that this time would vary based on factors on the client machine, but would still be very handy in knowing what the rendering engine takes a while to load. I would imagine this should be a useful utility since web apps are becoming pretty client heavy now. Any thoughts?

How to write custom SQLite functions in Javascript inside a Webkit browser?

I have just learned how to use the SQLite database for local storage in a Webkit web browser (e.g. Google Chrome or Apple Safari) using the Javascript API. For example the "Sticky Notes" application. However, I know that SQLite has a function called sqlite_create_function() that lets you add custom functions to your instance of SQLite on the fly which can then be used inside SQL queries. This function is described at sqlite.org. I also know that you can call an equivalent of this API in Ruby as described here. QUESTION: Can anybody show me how to do this in Javascript - i.e. write a custom function in Javascript that can be bound into the SQLite database at run time to be called by the SQLite engine, and all inside a Webkit browser?

I'm creating a prototype for a java web application. Frontend is a Swing-based java applet. Backend should be a type of web-service, that is called by applet. Backend should run inside a servlet container and should have its own security (username/password) database. I know, that Tomcat has its own user database (realm), but the app should have own. Web-services, in turn, carrying out app logic and database access (via Hibernate). I'm a newbie for a web development and I'm getting lost in a huge amount of the java web frameworks. Even just reading 'introduction' and 'getting started' documents takes a lot of time. So I need an advice which framework(s) are suitable for the task and not very complex for a quick start. I have an architecture where a task-based UI passes commands to a service layer. Now, my intention is to implement the UI in javascript, using KendoUI and the service layer, domain layer etc. in .NET. I'm also looking at future mobile implementations of the client that may use say Java rather than Javascript. If I define the commands in .NET, I'd like to know how to use them from my Javascript client so the client can communicate the commands appropriately to service layer. Do I have to use something like Apache Thrift for this i.e. to define the commands at both the client and service layer?

Can I use meteor for this?

I'm looking for a way to create an app which has a realtime web interface as well as an API which can be called by a node.js client while sharing most of its code. I'd like to be able to manage data, monitor and execute tasks inside of my app via browser, but also have an automation/scheduling program which connects to my web app and tells it to run various tasks and get results of each task. Unfortunately it doesn't look like I can connect to Meteor from the server, so I'm wondering if there's another approach? Is what I described even possible using Meteor? I have done some testing using socket.io and I think I may be able to do it this way, but Meteor seems like it'd be really great for the realtime user interface.

What I have to do is to generate a XML-string (that works) an save that directly into a file on an sftp-server. So far, so good... I used the following code with ftp and it works to, but not with ftps. So I either need another options-configuration for the stream or a different way to solve that task. Is it ok to store large objects (java component for example) in an Application variable?

I am developing an app right now which creates and stores a connection to a local XMPP server in the Application scope. The connection methods are stored in a cfc that makes sure the Application.XMPPConnection is connected and authorized each time it is used, and makes use of the connection to send live events to users. As far as I can tell, this is working fine. BUT it hasn't been tested under any kind of stress. My question is: Will this set up cause problems later on? I only ask because I can't find evidence of other people using Application variables in this way. If I weren't using railo I would be using CF's event gateway instead to accomplish the same task.

Interface contains a few methods, one of them should return true if all elements of this set are also in the set. Hi-- I'm stuck on a mySQL query using ON DUPLICATE KEY UPDATE. I'm getting the error: mySQL Error: 1062 - Duplicate entry 'hr2461809-3' for key 'fname' The table looks like this: id int(10) NOT NULL default '0', picid int(10) unsigned NOT NULL default '0', fname varchar(255) NOT NULL default '', type varchar(5) NOT NULL default '.jpg', path varchar(255) NOT NULL default '', PRIMARY KEY (id), UNIQUE KEY fname (fname), KEY picid (propid) ) ENGINE=MyISAM DEFAULT CHARSET=utf8; And the query that's breaking is this: INSERT INTO images SET picid=732, fname='hr2461809-3', path='pictures/' ON DUPLICATE KEY UPDATE picid=732, fname='hr2461809-3', path='pictures/' I'm using a very similar query elsewhere in the app with no issues. I'm not sure why this one breaks. I expected that when the UNIQUE KEY on fname gets violated, that it would simply update the row where the violation occurred? Thanks for any help

How to generate multiple Alter Scripts in SSMS

I'm using sql server management studio 2008 to try and generate an alter script for each of my stored procedures in order to save the scripts for each revision. I can easily generate an alter script for each individual procedure, but I'm not trying to go through a hundred stored procedures manually. I know that SSMS has an automated generate scripts function under task, but the only options are create, drop and create, and drop. I cant seem to figure out how to enable alter. I've already searched through many SO articles, as well as a little digging in msdn, and I've come up with nothing. I'm hoping that the fine people of stackoverflow will be up to the challenge. Hi, all my projects and their versions are defined in a properties file like this: ProjectNameA=0.0.1 ProjectNameB=1.4.2 I'd like to iterate over all projects and use there names and versions in an ant script. Right now, I read the entire properties file in help of the property task. Then I iterate over a given list in a for loop like this: <for list="ProjectNameA,ProjectNameB" param="project"> <sequential> <echo message="@{project} has version ${@{project}}" /> </sequential> </for> How can I avoid the duplication of the project names in the for loop. So basically iterate over each line and extract the name and the version of a project. Thanks.

Hi! I was given a task. First dialog based application has 4 buttons (up, down, left, right). Second dialog based application has two controls (e.g. text area, button). When on the first dialog I click "left" button - controls on the second dialog must move to the left. But unfortunately I don't know Win32 API at all. How can I implement it?
