Any help is greatly appreciated, Thank you.

  • iPhone SDK: How to determine keyboard type within a UIKeyboardDidShowNotification?

    - by iPhone Developer
    Hello, I need to know the current keyboard type. I was setting an instance variable in - (BOOL)textFieldShouldBeginEditing:(UITextField *)textField However, testing has shown that this is not always reliable because of the asynchronous nature of notifications. What I am wondering is if anyone can tell me how to determine the current keyboard type within a notification? - (void)keyboardDidShow:(NSNotification *) { // Need way to determine keyboard type here } Thanks.

  • Return statements for all functions

    - by emddudley
    How common is it for coding style guidelines to include a requirement that all functions include a return statement (including functions which return void)? To avoid being subjective or argumentative, I'd like answers which can name specific companies or open-source projects which have this requirement. If you haven't ever come across this coding style guideline, or you have a resource (book, online article) which discusses it, that would be useful as well. Thanks!

  • Better way to write an object generator for an RAII template class?

    - by Dan
    I would like to write an object generator for a templated RAII class -- basically a function template to construct an object using type deduction of parameters so the types don't have to be specified explicitly. The problem I foresee is that the helper function that takes care of type deduction for me is going to return the object by value, which will result in a premature call to the RAII destructor when the copy is made. Perhaps C++0x move semantics could help but that's not an option for me. Anyone seen this problem before and have a good solution? This is what I have: template<typename T, typename U, typename V> class FooAdder { private: typedef OtherThing<T, U, V> Thing; Thing &thing_; int a_; // many other members public: FooAdder(Thing &thing, int a); ~FooAdder(); void foo(T t, U u); void bar(V v); }; The gist is that OtherThing has a horrible interface, and FooAdder is supposed to make it easier to use. The intended use is roughly like this: FooAdder(myThing, 2) .foo(3, 4) .foo(5, 6) .bar(7) .foo(8, 9); The FooAdder constructor initializes some internal data structures. The foo and bar methods populate those data structures. The ~FooAdder dtor wraps things up and calls a method on thing_, taking care of all the nastiness. That would work fine if FooAdder wasn't a template. But since it is, I would need to put the types in, more like this: FooAdder<Abc, Def, Ghi>(myThing, 2) ... That's annoying, because the types can be inferred based on myThing. So I would prefer to create a templated object generator, similar to std::make_pair, that will do the type deduction for me. Something like this: template<typename T, typename U, typename V> FooAdder<T, U, V> AddFoo(Thing &thing, int a) { return FooAdder<T, U, V>(thing, a); } That seems problematic: because it returns by value, the stack temporary object will be destructed, which will cause the RAII dtor to run prematurely. One thought I had was to give FooAdder a copy ctor with move semantics, kinda like std::auto_ptr. But I would like to do this without dynamic memory allocation, so I thought the copy ctor could set a flag within FooAdder indicating the dtor shouldn't do the wrap-up. Like this: FooAdder(FooAdder &rhs) // Note: rhs is not const : thing_(rhs.thing_) , a_(rhs.a_) , // etc... lots of other members, annoying. , moved(false) { rhs.moved = true; } ~FooAdder() { if (!moved) { // do whatever it would have done } } Seems clunky. Anyone got a better way?

  • How to get ImageButton size within Android GridView?

    - by wufoo
    I'm subclassing ImageButton in order to draw lines on it and trying to figure out where the actual button coordinates are within my gridview. I am using onGlobalLayout to setup Top, Bottom, Right and Left, but these seem to be for the actual "square" within the grid, and not the actual button (see image). The purple lines are drawn in myImageButton.onDraw() using coords gathered from myImageButton.onGlobalLayout(). I thought these would be for the button, but they seem to be from something else. Not sure what. I'd like the purple lines to match the outline of the button so the lines I draw appear on the button and not just floating out in the LinearLayout somewhere. The light blue is the background color of the vertical LinearLayout holding the Textview (for the number) and myImageButton. Any way to get the actual button size? XML Layout: <FrameLayout xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android" android:id="@+id/lay_cellframe" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent" > <LinearLayout android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:gravity="fill_vertical|fill_horizontal" android:orientation="vertical" > <TextView android:id="@+id/tv_cell" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="wrap_content" android:layout_margin="2dp" android:gravity="center" android:text="TextView" android:textSize="10sp" /> <com.example.icaltest2.myImageButton android:id="@+id/imageButton1" android:layout_width="fill_parent" android:layout_height="fill_parent" android:layout_gravity="center" android:layout_margin="0dp" android:adjustViewBounds="false" android:background="@android:drawable/btn_default" android:scaleType="fitXY" android:src="@android:color/transparent" /> </LinearLayout> </FrameLayout> myImageButton.java public myImageButton (Context context, AttributeSet attrs) { super (context, attrs); mBounds = new Rect(); ViewTreeObserver vto = this.getViewTreeObserver (); vto.addOnGlobalLayoutListener (ogl); Log.d (TAG, "myImageButton"); } ... OnGlobalLayoutListener ogl = new OnGlobalLayoutListener() { @Override public void onGlobalLayout () { Rect b = getDrawable ().getBounds (); mBtnTop = b.centerY () - (b.height () / 2); mBtnBot = b.centerY () + (b.height () / 2); mBtnLeft = b.centerX () - (b.width () / 2); mBtnRight = b.centerX () + (b.width () / 2); } }; ... @Override protected void onDraw (Canvas canvas) { super.onDraw (canvas); Paint p = new Paint (); p.setStyle (Paint.Style.STROKE); p.setStrokeWidth (1); p.setColor (Color.MAGENTA); canvas.drawCircle (mBtnLeft, mBtnTop, 2, p); canvas.drawCircle (mBtnLeft, mBtnBot, 2, p); canvas.drawCircle (mBtnRight, mBtnTop, 2, p); canvas.drawCircle (mBtnRight, mBtnBot, 2, p); canvas.drawRect (mBtnLeft, mBtnTop, mBtnRight, mBtnBot, p); }

  • C underscore prototype syntax

    I was trying to compile a ruby module, and my compiler choked. I think it might have something to do with a line in ruby.h: void rb_check_type _((VALUE,int)); I've never seen this _ syntax before. What does it mean? Could it cause problems for my compiler (Visual Studio)?

  • execl doesn't work in a while(1) cicle, server side; C script

    - by Possa
    Hi guys, I have a problem with a little C script who should run as a server and launch a popup for every message arriving. The execl syntax is correct because if I try a little script with main() { execl(...); } it works. When I put it in a while(1) cicle it doesn't work. Everything else is working, like printf or string operation, but not the execl. Even if I fork it doesn't work. I really don't know what I can do ... can anyone help me? Thanks in advice for your help and sorry for my bad english. Here's the complete server C code. #include <arpa/inet.h> #include <netinet/in.h> #include <stdio.h> #include <stdlib.h> #include <sys/types.h> #include <sys/socket.h> #include <unistd.h> #include <string.h> #define BUFLEN 512 #define PORT 9930 void diep(char *s) { perror(s); exit(1); } int main() { struct sockaddr_in si_me, si_other; int s, i, slen=sizeof(si_other), broadcastPermission; char buf[100], zeni[BUFLEN]; if ((s=socket(AF_INET, SOCK_DGRAM, IPPROTO_UDP))==-1) diep("socket"); broadcastPermission = 1; if (setsockopt(s, SOL_SOCKET, SO_BROADCAST, (void *) &broadcastPermission, sizeof(broadcastPermission)) < 0) diep("setsockopt() failed"); memset((char *) &si_me, 0, sizeof(si_me)); si_me.sin_family = AF_INET; si_me.sin_port = htons(PORT); si_me.sin_addr.s_addr = htonl(INADDR_ANY); if (bind(s, &si_me, sizeof(si_me))==-1) diep("bind"); while (1) { if (recvfrom(s, buf, BUFLEN, 0, &si_other, &slen)==-1) diep("recvfrom()"); //printf("Received packet from %s:%d\nData: %s\n", inet_ntoa(si_other.sin_addr), ntohs(si_other.sin_port), buf); strcpy(zeni, ""); strcat(zeni, "zenity --warning --title Hack!! --text "); strcat(zeni, buf); printf("cmd: %s\n", zeni); //system (zeni); execl("/usr/bin/zenity", "/usr/bin/zenity", "--warning", "--title", "Warn!", "--text", buf, (char *) NULL); } close(s); return 0; }

  • Isn't objective-c function parameter syntax weird? [closed]

    - by Haoest
    Consider the following method: +(void) myMethod:(int)arg1 **argument2**(int)arg2 **argument3**(int) arg3; See how the first argument, unlike the 2nd and 3rd, doesn't have a description, giving it an impression of bad symmetry. Also you would expect the extra typing will provide named argument as you pass it in, but you still have to pass them in the correct order. Can anyone help me make sense of this?

  • Accesing server control from withing app_code class

    - by OverSeven
    My question is about how to acces a server control (listbox) that is located in default.aspx. I wish to acces this control in Functions.cs (this class is located in the App_Code folder). My page structures: - 1 masterpage with 1 content holder - Default.aspx (all the controls are within the content place holder) - Functions.cs (located in App_Code) Now when i try to fill up the listbox elements i get the error "object reference not set to an instance of an object." What i have tried to gain acces to this control: (this code is located in Functions.cs in App_Code). This is basicly showing some items in the listbox that are located in the xml file private static string file = HttpContext.Current.Server.MapPath("~/App_Data/Questions.xml"); public static void ListItems() { XmlDocument XMLDoc = new XmlDocument(); XMLDoc.Load(file); XPathNavigator nav = XMLDoc.CreateNavigator(); XPathExpression expr; expr = nav.Compile("/root/file/naam"); XPathNodeIterator iterator = nav.Select(expr); //ATTEMPT to get acces to ServerControl(listbox) Page page = (Page)HttpContext.Current.Handler; ListBox test = (ListBox)page.FindControl("lbTest"); //control is called lbTest in Default.aspx test.Items.Clear(); while (iterator.MoveNext()) { test.Items.Add(iterator.Current.Value); } } Code from the default.apx file <%@ Page Title="" Language="C#" MasterPageFile="~/MasterFile.master" AutoEventWireup="true" CodeFile="default.aspx.cs" Inherits="default" Debug="true" %> <%@ MasterType TypeName="Master" %> <asp:Content ID="Content1" ContentPlaceHolderID="cphContent" Runat="Server" > <asp:MultiView ID="mvTest" runat="server" > <asp:View ID="vCollection" runat="server"> <asp:ListBox ID="lbTest" runat="server" CssClass="listbox" ></asp:ListBox> </asp:View> </asp:MultiView> </asp:Content> The masterfile itself just has 1 placeholder. • Change background color when clicked textbox in C#

    - by jweinraub
    I like for the textbox to change the background when the textbox has focus (if clicked with a mouse, tabbed into, etc). I don't like the textchange method since it won't change until one character has been added. private void txtFoo_OnGotFocus(object sender, EventArgs e) { txtFoo.BackColor = Color.LightYellow; txtBar.BackColor = Color.White; } This doesn't seem to work for me. What am I doing wrong?
