SharePoint Development with VS 2010: Beth Massi links to a bunch of nice “How do I?” videos that that demonstrate how to use the SharePoint development support built-into VS 2010. How to Pin a Project to the Recent Projects List in VS 2010: A useful tip/trick that demonstrates how to “pin” a project to always show up on the “Recent Projects” list within Visual Studio 2010. Using the WPF Tree Visualizer in VS 2010: Zain blogs about the new WPF Tree Visualizer supported by the VS 2010 debugger.  This makes it easier to visualize WPF control hierarchies within the debugger. TFS 2010 Power Tools Released: Brian Harry blogs about the cool new TFS 2010 extensions released with this week’s TFS 2010 Power Tools release. What is New with T4 in VS 2010: T4 is the name of Visual Studio’s template-based code generation technology.  Lots of scenarios within VS 2010 now use T4 for code generation customization. • jQuery Templates on Microsoft Ajax CDN

  The beta version of the jQuery Templates plugin is now hosted on the Microsoft Ajax CDN. You can start using the jQuery Templates plugin in your application by referencing both jQuery 1.4.2 and jQuery Templates from the CDN. • Creating dynamic breadcrumb in asp.net mvc with mvcsitemap provider

  I have done lots breadcrumb kind of things in normal asp.net web forms I was looking for same for asp.net mvc. After searching on internet I have found one great nuget package for mvpsite map provider which can be easily implemented via site map provider. So let’s check how its works. I have create a new MVC 3 web application called breadcrumb and now I am adding a reference of site map provider via nuget package like following. You can find more information about MVC sitemap provider on following URL. https://github.com/maartenba/MvcSiteMapProvid So once you add site map provider. You will find a Mvc.SiteMap file like following. You can see that it has created breadcrumb dynamically without writing any action link code.   I remember in 2006 we were working on a portal for our client Venetian, Las Vegas and the portal is full of AJAX features. One of my friend facing a challange to retain browser history with all AJAX operation. In terms of user experience it is an important aspect which could not be avoided in that scenario. Well that time we have made some workarounds to achieve the same but that may not be the perfect solution. Ok.. Now with Microsoft AJAX there are a lot of such features can be achieved with optimum efficiency. Microsoft AJAX has grown its features over the past few years. Microsoft.Web.Preview.dll is an addon in conjunction with ASP.Net AJAX. It contains a control named "History" for that purpose. • Google Fetch issue

  When I do a Google fetch on any of my webpages the results are all the same (below). I'm not a programmer but I'm pretty sure this is not correct. Out of all the fetches I have done only one was different and the content length was 6x below and showed meta tags etc. Maybe this explains other issues I've been having with the site: a drop in indexed pages. Meta tag analyzer says I have no title tag, meta tags or description even though I do it on all pages. I had an SEO team working on the site and they were stumped by why pages were not getting indexed. So they figure it was some type of code error. Are they right? • WCF GZip Compression Request/Response Processing

  How do I get a WCF client to process server responses which have been GZipped or Deflated by IIS? On IIS, I've followed the instructions here on how to make IIS 6 gzip all responses (where the request contained "Accept-Encoding: gzip, deflate") emitted by .svc wcf services. On the client, I've followed the instructions here and here on how to inject this header into the web request: "Accept-Encoding: gzip, deflate". Fiddler2 shows the response is binary and not plain old Xml. The client crashes with an exception which basically says there's no Xml header, which ofcourse is true. In my IClientMessageInspector, the app crashes before AfterReceiveReply is called. Some further notes: (1) I can't change the WCF service or client as they are supplied by a 3rd party. I can however attach behaviors and/or message inspectors via configuration if this is the right direction to take. (2) I don't want to compress/uncompress just the soap body, but the entire message. Any ideas/solutions? * SOLVED * It was not possible to write a WCF extension to achieve these goals. Instead I followed this CodeProject article which advocate a helper class: public class CompressibleHttpRequestCreator : IWebRequestCreate { public CompressibleHttpRequestCreator() { } WebRequest IWebRequestCreate.Create(Uri uri) { HttpWebRequest httpWebRequest = Activator.CreateInstance(typeof(HttpWebRequest), BindingFlags.CreateInstance | BindingFlags.Public | BindingFlags.NonPublic | BindingFlags.Instance, null, new object[] { uri, null }, null) as HttpWebRequest; if (httpWebRequest == null) { return null; } httpWebRequest.AutomaticDecompression =DecompressionMethods.GZip | DecompressionMethods.Deflate; return httpWebRequest; } } and also, an addition to the application configuration file: <configuration> <system.net> <webRequestModules> <remove prefix="http:"/> <add prefix="http:" type="Pajocomo.Net.CompressibleHttpRequestCreator, Pajocomo" /> </webRequestModules> </system.net> </configuration> What seems to be happening is that WCF eventually asks some factory or other deep down in system.net to provide an HttpWebRequest instance, and we provide the helper that will be asked to create the required instance. In the WCF client configuration file, a simple basicHttpBinding is all that is required, without the need for any custom extensions. When the application runs, the client Http request contains the header "Accept-Encoding: gzip, deflate", the server returns a gzipped web response, and the client transparently decompresses the http response before handing it over to WCF. When I tried to apply this technique to Web Services I found that it did NOT work. Although the helper class was executed in the same was as when used by the WCF client, the http request did not contain the "Accept-Encoding: ..." header.   I am working on an MVC2 application and want to set the maxlength attributes of the text inputs. I have already defined the stringlength attribute on the Model object using data annotations and it is validating the length of entered strings correctly. I do not want to repeat the same setting in my views by setting the max length attribute manually when the model already has the information. Is there any way to do this? • DRY Validation with MVC2

  Hi All, I'm trying to figure out how I can define validation rules for my domain objects in one single location within my application but have run in to a snag... Some background: My location has several parts: - Database - DAL - Business Logic Layer - SOAP API Layer - MVC website The MVC website accesses the database via the SOAP API, just as third parties would. We are using server and and client side validation on the MVC website as well as in the SOAP API Layer. To avoid having to manually write client side validation we are implementing strongly typed views in conjunction with the Html.TextBoxFor and Html.ValidationMessageFor HTML helpers, as shown in Step 3 here. We also create custom models for each form where one form takes input for multiple domain objects. This is where the problem begins, the HTML helpers read from the model for the data annotation validation attributes. In most cases our forms deal with multiple domain objects and you can't specify more than one type in the <%@Page ... Inherits="System.Web.Mvc.ViewPage" % page directive. So we are forced to create a custom model class, which would mean duplicating validation attributes from the domain objects on to the model class. I've spent quite some time looking for workarounds to this, such has referencing the same MetadataType from both the domain class and the custom MVC models, but that won't work for several reasons: You can only specify one MetadataType attribute per class, so its a problem if a model references multiple domain objects, each with their own metadata type. The data annotation validation code throws an exception if the model class doesn't contain a property that is specified in the referenced MetadataType which is a problem with the model only deals with a subset of the properties for a given domain object. I've looked at other solutions as well but to no avail. If anyone has any ideas on how to achieve a single source for validation logic that would work across MVC client and server side validation functionality and other locations (such as my SOAP API) I would love to hear it! • Want custom title / image / description in facebook share link

  Hi! I am making a flash app that demonstrates potensial traffic injuries when driving at different speeds. I want the user to be able to share this information on facebook. However this demands that i can customize the text that will appear on facebook in some manner. I am making an url that is opened in a blank window (from the flash app itself). I specify the u and t parameters, putting the generated message as the t parameter. But this seems to always be overridden by the pages title. If i omit the title tag from the html code, the file name is used (also overriding the specified title). http://www.facebook.com/sharer.php?u=http://espentokerud.com/face/addiste.html&t=test; I also tried url-encoding the url, but to no avail. http://www.facebook.com/sharer.php?u=http%3a%2f%2fespentokerud.com%2fface%2faddiste.html&t=test; I also tried using the addthis API, but experience the same shortcomings. The funny thing is that if i post a swf, the title and description can be customized, and it is also possible to specify a screenshot. But if i dont post a swf, this seems to be ignored. I am aware that I can use meta tags on the html page to specify the thumbnail image, title and description, but some of this content has to be based on calculations inside the flash app. Can anyone help me out or point me in the right direction? I am thankful for any help!

  I have a jqGrid that works perfectly. It contains a pager button to export the grid to a csv file which works and exports the data. However, I also need to have the column names exported with the data and I can't seem to get that to work. But I installed it (version 2.0.5)! phpinfo() says I installed it, also var_dump(extension_loaded('xdebug')) I get true. I installed it as Zend Extension and I tried also as normal extension. Bot worked, but PHPUnit says everytime Xdebug is not loaded!

• Mac OS X Server Configure DHCP Options 66 and 67

  I need to configure Mountain Lion (10.8.2) OS X Server BOOTP to provide DHCP options 66 and 67 to provide PXE booting for PCs on my network. I have tried following the bootpd MAN pages, but they are not specific enough. I have also read conflicting information on the net, but nothing definitive for Mountain Lion DHCP. From bootpd man page: bootpd has a built-in type conversion table for many more options, mostly those specified in RFC 2132, and will try to convert from whatever type the option appears in the property list to the binary, packet format. For example, if bootpd knows that the type of the option is an IP address or list of IP addresses, it converts from the string form of the IP address to the binary, network byte order numeric value. If the type of the option is a numeric value, it converts from string, integer, or boolean, to the proper sized, network byte-order numeric value. Regardless of whether bootpd knows the type of the option or not, you can always specify the DHCP option using the data property list type <key>dhcp_option_128</key> <data> AAqV1Tzo </data> My TFTP server is 172.16.152.20 and the bootfile is pxelinux.0 I have edited /etc/bootpd.plist and added the following to the subnet dict: <key>dhcp_option_66</key> <data> LW4gLWUgrBCYFAo= </data> <key>dhcp_option_67</key> <data> LW4gLWUgcHhlbGludXguMAo= </data> According to the man page, the data elements are supposed to be Base64 encoded, but no matter what I try, I cannot get PXE clients to boot. I have tried encoding 172.16.152.20 using various methods: echo "172.16.152.20" | openssl enc -base64 returns MTcyLjE2LjE1Mi4yMAo= DHCP Option Code Utility (http://mac.softpedia.com/get/Internet-Utilities/DHCP-Option-Code-Utility.shtml) generating a string from 172.16.152.20 yields: LW4gLWUgMTcyLjE2LjE1Mi4yMAo= (used in the above example) DHCP Option Code Utility generating an IP Addresss from 172.16.152.20 yields: LW4gLWUgrBCYFAo= Encoding pxelinux.0 with the above methods likewise yields different encodings. I have tried using all three methods of encoding the data elements, but nothing seems to work i.e. my PXE boot clients do not get directed to my TFTP server. Can anyone help? Regards, Paul Adams.

  I recently built a simple web-app deployed over Tomcat. The app uses pretty standard session based security where a user who has logged in is given a session. Sessions work fine in Firefox and Chrome, but require the use of jsessionid in the URL for IE (tested 7 & 8), set to medium privacy. In IE 8, I tried to override cookie handling, setting "Allow all 3rd party cookies" and "Allow all session cookies"- no dice. However, when I run Tomcat on my local machine, IE accepts the cookie, and sessions work just fine. And now, for the HTTP headers. • Need content in UIWebView to display quickly

  Part of my app caches web pages for offline viewing. To do that, I am saving the HTML fetched from a site and rewriting img urls to point to a file on the local store. When I load the html into a UIWebView, it loads the images as expected and everything's fine. I am also caching stylesheets in this fashion. The problem is that when I put the phone into airplane mode, loading this cached html causes the UIWebView to display a blank screen and pause for a while before displaying the page. I've figured out that it's caused by non-cached URLs referenced from the original HTML doc that the web view is trying to fetch. These other URLs include images within the cached stylesheets, content in iframes, and javascript that opens a connection to fetch other resources. The pause happens when the UIWebView tries to fetch these resources, and the web page only appears after all these other fetches have timed out. My questions is, how can I make UIWebView just display the stuff I've cached immediately? Here are my thoughts: write even more code to cache these other references. This is potentially a ton more code to catch all the edge cases, etc., especially having to parse the Javascript to see what it loads after the page is loaded force UIWebView to time out immediately so there's no pause. I haven't figured out how to do this. somehow get what's already loaded to display even though the external references haven't finished fetching yet strip the code of all scripts, link tags and iframes to "erase" the external references. I've tried this one, but for some sites, the resultant page is severely messed up Can anyone help me here? I've been working on this forever, and am running out of ideas.
