  • Javascript timer that restarts on key up?

    O, so i have a 'live search' ajax search, which currently runs an sql search (via ajax) on each key up. What i would prefer is to: run an sql search after a key has not been pressed for say 800 milliseconds . So i want to have a timer that is started on key up, if the timer reaches 800ms then the ajax is called, if a new keyup event occurs the timer is restarted how would i do this?

  • How to not run function if its a mobile device?

    I have a modal pop up function on my website, but i don't want this to run if the browser is smaller than 480px. I have found that if I put an if statement such as: if (window.innerWidth && window.innerWidth > 480) { run function() } Then it should run only if the browsers innerWidth is 480. However its not working and I think its because I have page scaling on this website. Can any one help me with a conditional statement if page scaling is on? Thanks.

  • Managing multiple AJAX calls to PHP scripts

    I have a set of 5 HTML dropdowns that act as filters for narrowing results returned from a mySQL database. The three pertinent filters are for "Province", "Region", and "City" selection, respectively. I have three functions: findSchools(), which runs when any of the filters (marked with CSS class .filter) are changed, and fetches the results via AJAX from a PHP script. Once that is done, two other functions are called... changeRegionOptions(), which, upon changing the "Province" filter, and updates the available options using the same method as the first function, but posting to a different script. changeCityOptions(), which runs if the "Region" filter was changed, and updates options, again using the same method. The problem is that since I want these AJAX functions to run simultaneously, and they by nature run asynchronously, I've tried using $.when to control the execution of the functions, but it doesn't fix the problem. The functions run, but the Region and City filters return blank (no options); the FireBug report shows absolutely no output, even though the POST request went through. The posted parameter for filter_province gets sent normally, but the one for region gets cut off at the end -- it sends as filter_region=, with no value passed. So I'm presuming my logic is wrong somewhere. What I like in particular about Trulia's implementation of the InfoWindow is: Extends beyond the map border: Google Maps InfoWindows are contained within the map border whereas Trulia's seems to be able to float on-top of the map Always displays InfoWindow near map Center: Google Maps InfoWindows always display the InfoWindow above the marker whereas Trulia InfoWindows always display the InfoWindow as close the center of the map as possible. For example, if the map marker icon is on the top of the map near the border, the Trulia InfoWindow is displayed below the map marker icon InfoWindow is displayed on mouse hover (not 'click'): With the default Google Maps InfoWindow, you have to 'click' the map marker icon to display the InfoWindow whereas Trulia InfoWindows are display simply by hovering over the map marker icon. I found the PdMarker, which is a 3rd party extension for Google Map InfoWindows that accomplishes most of the above bullets but not all. 1) It does not extend beyond the map border, 2) it does not work with Google Maps API version 3 (only version 2). Anyone know how Trulia is accomplishing their InfoWindow-like implementation on Google Maps API v3?

  • How to keep submit button visible and executable upon textarea onblur

    I have a <div id="comment_posting_holder"> tag that holds a form with two elements: a textarea box and a submit button. I want to have the div tag (containing the textarea and submit button) disappear if I click somewhere "OTHER" than the submit button. I have a start for the code below. So upon leaving focus from the textarea, I can make the div tag disappear. I tried placing in a mouseclick event inside the blur function for the submit button but that did not work. Any suggestions?     Hey guys, I am trying to create a grid like system with div's with content floated left. The problem is that the height of each div is not static since the content is different in each one. Since the height is different.. things get outta whack if one is taller then another in one row. Is there some sort of css way or js (prefer javascript) way to get around this.
