• New JDeveloper/ADF book hits the bookshelves

  I've just received a nice new copy of Sten Vesterli's book Oracle ADF Enterprise Application Development - Made Simple.  I was one of the technical reviewers of the book but I'm looking forward to be able to read it end-to-end in good old fashioned book format this coming week. The book bridges the gap between those existing books that describe Oracle ADF features, and real world ADF development.  So, source control, bug tracking, estimating, testing, security, packaging etc are all covered.  Of course, every project and situation is different so the book could never supply a one-size-fits-all guide, but I think its a good addition to your ADF bookshelf.  I'll hopefully post a full review in the coming weeks. Oh, and congratulations Sten,  having gone through the pain of writing my own ADF book, I take my hat off to anyone who goes through the same journey!

Get Lost (interrupted) - When we do some work and somebody is calling or interrepting by someother way we lose track of what we were doing and we need to do from the start Falling Behind- Technology gets updated  phenomenally over a period of time and developers always have a scenario like they are not in the state of the art technology and they always have a doubt whether they are staying updated. Lack of Collobaration - When a Manager asks a person what the team members have done and some might be done and some might not be and finally all are into a state like we dont know where we are. So they have addressed these 3 points in the VS 2010 by the following features : Get Lost - Some cool features which could overcome this. We have some Graphical interface. which could show what we have done and where we are. Some Zoom features in the code level. Falling Behind - Everything is based on .NET language base. 2010 has been built in such a way that if developers know the native language that's enough for building good applications. I got a lot of info about Bing today. BING really rocks!!! It has the following : 1. Visual Search 2. Product based search. For each product different menu filters were provided to make an advanced search 3. BING Maps was awesome!! It zoomed in to the street level and we can assume that we are the persons who are walking or running on the road and we can see the real objects like buildings moving by our side. 4. PhotoSynth was used in BING to show up all the images taken around the globe in a 3D format. 5. Formula - If we give some formula it automatically gives the value for the variable or derivation of expression Also some info about some kool touch apps which does an authentication and computation of Teched Attendee's Points that they have scored and the sessions attended. One guy won an XBOX in lucky draw as a gift. • Host Matching Interview Tips?

  So I've gotten past the technical interviews for a company, and now I'm having an interview with my potential host for an internship during the summer. What are some tips for interviews like these? I know they're not really technical, but I'm not sure what exactly they are meant to gauge. Any tips on what to say, how to show my interest in the project, questions I should ask, etc.? Edit: Side question: What's a good synonym for the word "interesting" or "interested"? I find that I use those words a bit too often (e.g. "I'm definitely interested in working on the front-end!" or "Yeah, that sounds really interesting, I would love learning more about it." or "Those all sound really interesting, I'm definitely interested in all of them!", etc.)... but I can't seem to find any good synonyms. (Online sites don't really give me good synonyms.) Any ideas?

• Methods to Manage/Document "one-off" Reports

  I'm a programmer that also does database stuff and I get a lot of so-called one-time report requests and recurring report requests. I work at a company that has a SQL Server database that we integrate third-party data with and we also have some third-party vendors that we have to use their proprietary reporting system to extract data in flat file format from that we don't integrate into SQL Server for security reasons. To generate many of these reports I have to query data from various systems, write small scripts to combine data from the separate systems, cry, pull my hair, curse the last guy's name that made the report before me, etc. My question is, what are some good methods for documenting the steps taken to generate these reports so the next poor soul that has to do them won't curse my name? As of now I just have a folder with subfolders per project with the selects and scripts that generated the last report but that seems like a "poor man's" solution. :)

• How do you find libraries(C++) in Ubuntu?

  Sorry this is such a beginner question, but I've recently begun programming with C++ on Ubuntu 12.10 and I've installed a few libraries I need to work with, for example PCL and I can't find them to add them to my project, I'm using QTcreator as the IDE and qmake which comes with it. For example with PCL I followed the instructions on their site: sudo add-apt-repository ppa:v-launchpad-jochen-sprickerhof-de/pcl sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install libpcl-all And as no problems occurred I have to assume they are correctly installed. Most of the tutorial dealing with adding external libraries I've found on the web assume you're on windows and know where you downloaded the library. Since I don't have experience with adding external libraries in C++, could someone please tell me in what file, if there is one, are libraries installed by default in Ubuntu? What is the extension of these library files? Is there a script/command which can help detect a library or all the libraries installed?

• Moving Forward with Code Iteration

  There are times when working on my programming projects, and I get to a point where I'm ready to move on to the next part of my program. However, when I sit down to implement this new feature I get stuck, in a sense. It's not that I don't know how to implement the feature, it's that I get stuck on figuring out the best way to implement said feature. So I sit back for a day or two and let the ideas ferment until I am comfortable with a design. I get worried that I may not write something as well as it could be, or that I might have to go back and rework the whole thing; so I put it off. This is a big reason why I've never really finished many personal projects. Anyone else experience this, and how do you keep your self moving forward in your project?

  I'm looking for a utility that helps me (and my colleagues) to archive documents in a systematic manner (Like Zeitgeist but permanent). The utility have to clean-out old document from desktops and store them on a server (as automatic as possible and consistent) maybe from just a few locations (Document directory) Documents shall be stored on cheap large media for many years to come - hard disk and file system maybe? Easy to maintain and manage for a small organization. Documents have to be easy to find and restore One systematic manner could be a directory-structure by year, month, user or user, year, month. Its a plus if documents could be linked to a project, if documents could be search-able and if document could also be mail, IM-discussions not only OpenOffice traditional documents. Any ideas?

• install Cirrus Logic cs46xx (audio card) drivers

  I have two sounds cards, one is the on-board (it's VIA) the other is Cirrus Logic cs46xx. This is what lspci shows me: 04:04.0 Multimedia audio controller: Cirrus Logic CS 4614/22/24/30 [CrystalClear SoundFusion Audio Accelerator] (rev 01) It only show the cirrus logic, cause I disable the VIA card through BIOS. This page: http://es.driverscollection.com/?file_id=13152 gives me instructions to install it, but I can follow them because the folders indicates in the page do not matches with the ones that I see in my system. The alsa page: http://alsa-project.org/main/index.php/Matrix:Module-cs46xx, also give me instructions, but I don't understand it. For example, they say: type in a terminal: ./configure but don't say in what directory. I think that isn't instructions for begginers... Right now I can't heard anything. I decide to disable the VIA audio card, cause I've read they don't get along with linux, although i use the integrate VIA video card. I have ubuntu 11.10

• Learning Erlang vs learning node.js

  I see a lot of crap online about how Erlang kicks node.js' ass in just about every conceivable category. So I'd like to learn Erlang, and give it a shot, but here's the problem. I'm finding that I have a much harder time picking up Erlang than I did picking up node.js. With node.js, I could pick a relatively complex project, and in a day I had something working. With Erlang, I'm running into barriers, and not going nearly as quickly. So.. for those with more experience, is Erlang complicated to learn, or am I just missing something? Node.js might not be perfect, but I seem to be able to get things done with it.

  Exchange 2013 has been signed off and is now RTM! Hoozaaa!!   From the Exchange team blog: Today we reached an important milestone in the development of the new Exchange. Moments ago, the Exchange engineering team signed off on the Release to Manufacturing (RTM) build. This milestone means the coding and testing phase of the project is complete and we are now focused on releasing the new Exchange via multiple distribution channels to our business customers. General availability is planned for the first quarter of 2013. We have a number of programs that provide business customers with early access so they can begin testing, piloting and adopting Exchange within their organizations: We will begin rolling out new capabilities to Office 365 Enterprise customers in our next service updates, starting in November through general availability. Volume Licensing customers with Software Assurance will be able to download Exchange Server 2013 through the Volume Licensing Service Center by mid-November. • Creating natural environments that can run on lower end computers in Unity3D/C#

  So, I'm starting work on a project soon that will require me to create realistic environments that can preferably run on PC's besides high quality ones. The goal is to get as real an environment as possible while still being easy(ish) to run. The only problem is I've NEVER done anything with 3D environments, making trees sway, grass move, lighting, etc. Can anyone give me any help? Perhaps describe how it's done? Link me to articles? I'm just looking to be pointed in the right direction, not for you to write the code for me. Any help at all would be greatly appreciated, I'm using Unity3D and C# as my language. Thanks, Tim.

• How to represent a tree structure in NoSQL

  I'm new to NoSQL and have been playing around with a personal project on the MEAN stack (Mongo ExpressJs AngularJs NodeJs). I'm building a document editor of sorts that manages nodes of data. Each document is actually a tree. I have a CRUD api for documents, to create new trees and a CRUD api for nodes in a given document. Right now the documents are represented as a collection that holds everything, including nodes. The children parent relationship is done by ids. So the nodes are an map by id, and each node has references to what nodes are their children. I chose this "flat" approach because it is easier to get a node by id from a document. Being used to having a relation table between nodes and documents, a relation table between nodes and children nodes I find it a bit weird that I have to save the entire "nodes" map each time I update a node. Is there a better way to represent such a data type in NoSQL?

  I see the term 'enterprise' being thrown around software developers and programmers a lot and used loosely it seems. en·ter·prise/'ent?r?priz/ Noun: A project or undertaking, typically one that is difficult or requires effort. Initiative and resourcefulness. Can someone please clarify what this term actually encompasses? "At an enterprise level", "enterprise scale". There are even "enterprise editions" of things. What exactly does it mean? It obviously doesn't make sense judging by the above definition so more specifically to software what does one mean when using the word enterprise??? EDIT: To add a spin on this - how does this term then fit into phrases such as Enterprise Framework Model? What does data access and data context have to do with company-wide descriptions?
