  how can I write more embedded " and ' in php ? For example, I dunno how to write this html complete element with all apex: As you can see, I use '' for the php string. Then inside, I use "", but then I need another level of apix and I dunno how to write that one in my php document.   As the question states, what exactly are the implications of having the 'implicit declaration of function' warning? We just cranked up the warning flags on gcc and found quite a few instances of these warnings and I'm curious what type of problems this may have caused prior to fixing them? Also, why is this a warning and not an error. How is gcc even able to successfully link this executable? As you can see in the example below, the executable functions as expected. Data basically is stored as follows (with other columns) : Table Name: Hits ============================ VisitorIP TIMESTAMP ---------------------------- 15.215.65.65 123456789 I want to display total hits per hour (within the last 6 hours ) including the hours that has no hits. • Documenting preprocessor defines in Doxygen

  Is it possible to document preprocessor defines in Doxygen? I expected to be able to do it just like a variable or function, however the Doxygen output appears to have "lost" the documentation for the define, and does not contain the define its self either. I tried the following /**My Preprocessor Macro.*/ #define TEST_DEFINE(x) (x*x) and /**@def TEST_DEFINE My Preprocessor Macro. */ #define TEST_DEFINE(x) (x*x) I also tried putting them within a group (tried defgroup, addtogroup and ingroup) rather than just at the "file scope" however that had no effect either (although other items in the group were documented as intended). I looked through the various Doxygen options, but couldn't see anything that would enable (or prevent) the documentation of defines.

• Is automated source translation seen as beneficial and/or necessary?

  I have recently spent several years translating legacy FORTRAN into Java. Prior to that, I found myself translating FORTRAN into C (for which I wrote a simple translation tool). After all this work, I find myself wondering how many others are doing similar language-to-language translations and whether an automated way of doing so would be beneficial. I know about F2C, For_C, F2J and others, as well as some of the translation sites, but none seem to be all that successful. Having seen output from For_C, I can see why it just hasn't taken off. While it is technically correct, it is very difficult to maintain. So, I guess what I am wondering is if there were are tool that produced more maintainable, more grok-able code than the code I have seen, would developers use it? Or are developers as jaded as many posts seem to indicate and unwilling to use generated code as it could never be as good as their manually translated code?

• Using Qt with custom MinGW

  Hi, I don't know if this question would fit better on superuser.com, but since it's rather compiler related, I give it a try here. I have to use Qt with a specific version of gcc (4.5). I downloaded the last official Qt release for Windows (Vista, 32 bits version) and didn't install the shipped MinGW version; I just installed the Qt libraries/binaries. In a console, when I type qmake && make, make fails, complaining that 'g++' is not recognized as an internal command. If I type g++ in the same console, I however have the following output: g++: no input files So g++ is definitely recognized. For those who may ask, both the Qt binaries directory and MinGW binaries directory are in the system PATH environment variable. What could be wrong here ?

• Linux issues on setting a timer function

  I am creating a process with 2 children, 1 of the children is responsible to read questions (line by line from a file), output every question and reading the answer, and the other one is responsable to measure the time elapsed and notify the user at each past 1 minute about the remaining time. My problem is that i couldn't find any useful example of how i can make this set time function to work. Here is what i have tried so far. • VB.NET For Each steps into loop body for an IEnumerable collection! How? Why?

  This is weird. I have a class that inherits from IEnumrable whose Count property is reporting 0 (zero) elements but the For Each loop steps into the loop body and tries to use the variable where it should just be moving on. My code: On Error Resume Next Dim d As Foo For Each d In fooCollection ' use d and throws an exception Next d Weirder still, every time d is accessed i get an exception thrown in the output window: A first chance exception of type 'System.NullReferenceException' but i'm not stopping on the exception (not in a try/catch block). Is "On Error Resume Next" causing this weirdness? Weirdness found: Per Rowland's and JohnH's comments i checked the Foo class: The GetEnumerator method inside of Foo didn't actually return anything! It had an empty body. That coupled with the On Error Resume Next before the loop caused the havoc! Wow this was ugly. Thanks for the clues guys!

• Why is HttpContext.Current.Session available in HttpModule but not in Response.Filter?

  I have written an HttpModule that adds a response filter. The filter is capturing page output and storing it in a session variable. I am able to access HttpContext.Current.Session in my HttpModule. The HttpModule is handling the PostAcquireRequestState event. I am still able to access HttpContext.Current.Session in the PostAcquireRequestState event. I am adding a custom stream that inherits from Stream to Response.Filter HttpContext.Current.Session is null when accessed from the Stream.Write method. Everything worked fine when using an InProc SessionState. However, I now must use StateServer. Using StateServer, the code is now broken. Any ideas?

  I'm running Gitolite over the Git repository and I have post-receive hook there written in Python. I need to execute "git" command at git repository directory. There are few lines of code: proc = subprocess.Popen(['git', 'log', '-n1'], cwd='/home/git/repos/testing.git' stdout=subprocess.PIPE, stderr=subprocess.PIPE) proc.communicate() After I make new commit and push to repository, scripts executes and says fatal: Not a git repository: '.' If I run proc = subprocess.Popen(['pwd'], cwd='/home/git/repos/testing.git' stdout=subprocess.PIPE, stderr=subprocess.PIPE) it says, as expected, correct path to git repository (/home/git/repos/testing.git) If I run this script manually from bash, it works correct and show correct output of "git log". What I'm doing wrong?

Unfortunately, it seems that both XmlParser and XmlSlurper for Groovy strip newline characters from the attributes of nodes when .text() is called. How can I get at the text of the attribute including the newlines?   This is a language-agnostic question - unless you count English as a language. I've got this list of items which can have very long names. For aesthetic purposes, these names must be made shorter in some cases, adding dots (...) to indicate that the name is longer. So for example, if article.name returns this: lorem ipsum dolor sit amet I'd like to get this other output. lorem ipsum dolor ... I can program this quite easily. My question is: how should I call that shortening operation? I mean the name, not the implementation. Is there a standard English name for it?

• Visual Studio creating bin/ folder in wrong location.

  In Visual Studio 2008, I have a solution with a number of projects. Each project has the same build output path of "..\bin\Debug\" for debug, and "..\bin\Release\" for release. So the directory structure looks like this: solution\ bin\ project1\ project2\ project3\ This all works fine, all the assemblies go to the correct location when I build the project, etc. Howevever, when I first open the solution in Visual Studio, an empty bin folder is created one level up from where it should. So I am getting: bin\ solution\ bin\ project1\ project2\ project3\ This folder is only created when I first open the solution. Never when I build. I have looked through the .sln and every .csproj file, and I cannot work out why this folder is being created. So, my questions are: a) Why is this bin folder being created? b) How do I stop Visual Studio from creating this bin folder?
