  • Where to begin with multi-threaded programming with c++?

    I'm trying to implement my own IRC client as a personal proejct and I realized I needed a way to read and write from the socket at the same time. I realized I could have a reading thread which reads from the socket in the background and puts data in a queue and I could have another thread which writes data from a queue to the socket. However I have no idea on how to start with multithreaded programing or how to do it with c++. Where do I go from here?

    Is it possible to use the criteria api to load a set of parent objects along with a filtered, eagerly loaded set of child objects? I'm trying to query a list of categories and at the same time load the categories products that start with the letter M. The query below gives me the results I want but the Products are not eagerly loaded, that is NHibernate performs additional queries when I enumerate the Product collection: var categoriesWithProducts = session.CreateCriteria<Category>() .SetFetchMode("Products", FetchMode.Eager) .CreateCriteria("Products") .Add(Expression.Like("Name", "M%")) .List<Category>(); What am I missing here?

But please don't link me to the usual dry boring tutorials that only tells you the function syntax, I need more thorough explanations.     I am injecting HttpContextBase into a caching class. HttpContextBase is registered as PerWebRequest. I interact with the caching class on each web request and this works fine, but I also need to initialise the cache at application start.     Example: There is a matrix of data called VE There is a vector of string where the first element is the string VE. I need to indirectly call the string and be able to access data. For example if I need the 6th column of matrix VE then I want to do: Vector[1][,6] Essentially I need R to start reading those string as if they are the matrix names that are already in this page. I need this syntax to be dynamic because I am putting it in a loop.

    Hey guys I'm getting this weird error in my Zend application with this piece of code: $curl = curl_init(); curl_setopt($curl, CURLOPT_URL, 'www.xyz.com/ab.php'); curl_setopt($curl, CURLOPT_RETURNTRANSFER, 1); $data = curl_exec($curl); curl_close($curl); This is the error, I get: Fatal error: Uncaught exception 'Zend_Session_Exception' with message 'session has already been started by session.auto-start or session_start() When I remove that code everything works fine.     Currently, I have osmething like this in all of my classes: # Import logging to log information import logging # Set up the logger LOG_FILENAME = 'log.txt' logging.basicConfig(filename=LOG_FILENAME,level=logging.DEBUG) This works well, and I get the output I want, but I would really like to have all this sort of information in one place, and be able to just do something like import myLogger and then start logging, and then hopefully be able to just go into that file and turn off logging when I need an extra performance boost.   • Recreating the Apple Store's summary that moves with the page scrolling

    I'm looking to create something like what Apple has on their online store for displaying the summary of your computer and total as seen here. I'm guessing this is JavaScript, but it'd be even cooler if it could be done in CSS. Basically I'd like something scrolls with the page like position:fixed, but I don't want it to start moving until the user has scroll past a certain position. I'm using jQuery, so a jQuery plugin would be perfect as well.

  • Counting context switches per thread

    Is there a way to see how many context switches each thread generates? (both in and out if possible) Either in X/s, or to let it run and give aggregated data after some time. (either on linux or on windows) I have found only tools that give aggregated context-switching number for whole os or per process. My program makes many context switches (50k/s), probably a lot not necessary, but I am not sure where to start optimizing, where do most of those happen.
