  • how to specify a BIGINT in a rails scaffold?

    I am trying to create a model in ruby that uses a BIGINT datatype (as opposed to the INT done by :integer). I have search all over Google, but all I seem to find is "run an SQL statement to alter the table to a BIGINT" - This seems a bit hack-ish to me, so I wanted to know if there was a way to specify a bigint in the ruby system like :big_int or something Any ideas?

    Im trying to match forum_id with several different forum_id's, something like forum_id = 5,7,12,43,63,78 I currently have this code: SELECT topic_title, topic_id, forum_id FROM $MYSQL_TOPIC WHERE topic_title LIKE '%%%s%%' AND forum_id = 5 LIMIT 50 (using mysql_real_escape_string and sprintf) I tried: forum_id = 5 OR 7 forum_id = 5|7 forum_id = 5 AND 7 forum_id = 5 & 7 But none of them will match them all and therefore search though them all.

    Hi, Given a filename in C, I want to determine whether this file exists and has execute permission on it. All I've got currently is: if( access( filename, X_OK) != 0 ) { But this wont search the PATH for files and will also match directories (which I don't want). Could anyone please help?

    I want to get the current weather conditions from the NOAA. I know they have a SOAP web service that can be used to get weather forecasts and XML files for current weather conditions for each of their weather stations. I could just use the XML file for the weather station nearest to where I want, but there doesn't seem to be an easy way to search for the proper xml file by zipcode. Is there a simple way to get current weather conditions by zipcode from the NOAA?

    Hello, I was wondering if anyone ever tried to extract/follow RSS links using SgmlLinkExtractor/CrawlSpider. I can't get it to work... I am using the following rule: rules = ( Rule(SgmlLinkExtractor(tags=('link',), attrs=False), follow=True, callback='parse_article'), ) (having in mind that rss links are located in the link tag). I am not sure how to tell SgmlLinkExtractor to extract the text() of the link and not to search the attributes ... Any help is welcome, Thanks in advance

Considering the client/server architecture (which I am new to) I would like to know if the "client" is represented only by the Internet browser and therefore the entire code of the web application should be stored in the server.     I have been pondering why it is recommended that we should not release managed resources inside finalize. If you see the code example at http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/system.gc.suppressfinalize.aspx , and search for string "Dispose(bool disposing) executes in two distinct scenarios" and read that comment, you will understand what I mean. Only possibility I can think of is that it probably has something to do with the fact that it is not possible to predict when finalizer will get called. Does anyone know the right answer ? thanks, mishal

But it's not working for \\$. Please explain why ?
