  • Gzip not working in browser

    According to whatsmyip.org none of my browsers (Firefox, Chrome etc) on W7 are gzip enabled, it's saying 'NO, your browser is not requesting compressed content' which agrees with Chrome developer tools as I was testing a site and it was complaining that the page and css etc weren't compressed. I've searched for an answer but cannot find anything for this. I've tested from another pc connected to the router and that works fine, something on this pc is broke.... Any help tia

  • Bridging and iptables SNAT conflict

    Hello I am working on a setup here and have it working with one minor exception. Devices on one side of my bridge aren't getting SNAT'd to the Internet. The Diagram / Overview: Primary_Network (Site_A) | | Internet ------- Linux_Bridge_GW (GW) | | Secondary/CoLo Site (Site_B) Here is the setup: 1.) Site_A has all the production servers and workstations. 2.) Site_B has a set of servers that we would like to fail-over to and also serve our internet facing services from. 3.) GW has two interfaces that are trunked and carrying the appropriate VLAN traffic (allow layer-2 propagation of traffic between sites) //this all works perfectly fine. 4.) The problem that is being encountered is, hosts from Site_B have their default GW at Site_A (same subnet) GW does not have IPs on the VLANs that are being passed. 5.) All hosts at Site_A can reach the Internet without problem. 6.) GW has an addresses on a subnet that is ONLY for Internet destined traffic. (This was done so that Websense would not have to parse unnecessary traffic. We use this VLAN as the monitor port's source on the switch where Websense is sitting). What I think is happening: 1.) Packet/Frame comes in on physdev at Site_B destined for Internet. 2.) Kernel sees packet, and forwards it out the other side of the bridge to that host's default GW. 3.) Site_A (containing core-network's Default-GW) sees that packet is destined for a host it doesn't know about, so it sends it to it's default GW (the linux bridge, since it's Internet bound). 4.) The kernel says "Hey, I've seen you before" and therefore doesn't do SNAT'ing on the packet and sends it out to the Internet where it's black-holed. Why I think it's happening: 1.) A tcpdump on the internet facing NIC shows the packet leaving the interface with the private address as it's source. What I would like: 1.) Have the packet SNAT'd. 2.) Something like the below would be awesome a.) packet comes in from Site_B b.) kernel sees that the packet is NOT destined for itself or any private address c.) kernel says "OK, well since you're destined for the Internet I'm going to send you out this interface rather than forward you to your normal default GW that's WAAAY over there." d.) packet comes in from internet and is sent out the appropriate bridge physdev depending on which site the host it's destined for is at.   • Untar multiple files in different directories

    Hi, am trying to perform an update on multiple site that use an open source CMS but untaring a patch file in each sites httpdocs directory. My plan was to perform a find for the patch file then untar using the following command: find . -name "patchfile.tar.gz" -exec tar -xzvf {} \; -print but it doesnt seem to work successfully anyone have any ideas as to why not?   • Can I stop SharePoint from prompting during file edit?

    We use a SharePoint 2007 site internally with Office 2010. Whenever I open a Word document to edit it, I get a prompt saying: Some files can harm your computer. If the file information below looks suspicious, or you do not fully trust the source, do not open the file. I've been unable to find a reliable answer around the web. Some suggested using the Windows File Types dialog to remove the prompt on download option, but this dialog is not available in Windows 7.

  • Firefox, reload without cache check

    It looks like a popular question but it's just the opposite. When I visit a site in Firefox 15 I have two different behaviours when: Pressing enter in the address bar Pressing F5 or the refresh button If I look in the network console I can see that F5 does a lot more requests, most of them about cached resources and with a 304-Not Modified answer. Is there's any shortcut to make a quick refresh? Just like pressing enter on the address bar.

We are moving our MySQL DB to its own dedicated server and will keep the original machine as the front end machine running nginx/apache (Django backend.) How do we monitor the value of this change? It is possible our whole site could actually get slower since the MySQL queries will be going out over a secure remote connection instead of locally?

  • Updating Dell Vostro 3700 (Nvidia GeForce GT330M) display driver?

    I've bought this laptop "Dell Vostro 3700", having inside an Intel integrated graphic card and an Nvidia GeForce GT330M. Depending on energy saving mode it switches between the two video cards. When I try to update the video driver (now version 189.99 on Windows 7 64-bit) with that found on Nvidia site an error message say that it cannot find compatible graphic hardware. Dell doesn't provide a newer driver version. Has anyone solved the same problem?

  • Is there a decent diagram of packet flow for a modern era (2.6+) iptables setup?

    I'm currently trying to debug a particularly hairy set of DNAT based iptables rules (the UDP reply never makes it back to the original requester) and I'm struggling to visualise the packet flow through all the numerous tables involved. So far Google'ing has shown me old 2.4 based ipchains ones. The netfilter site has some good text docs but is short on diagrams and a number of the external links are now dead. So is there a canonical diagram for iptables packet flow, preferably showing how NAT/Masqueraded packets are also dealt with?

  • A Windows Update Prevented Live Discs From Working?

    First off I'll state my system specs. Acer Aspire M1100 Windows Vista Home Basic 32bit OEM 2 Gigs of DDR2 ram 160Gig hard drive 2.7Ghz AMD Athlon 64 processor ATI Radeon X1250 Graphics card A few days ago my computer did automatic updates and updated windows defender to KB915597 (Definition 1.135.415.0), After which when shutting down and starting up I would receive BSOD with the information BUGCODE_USE_DRIVER and 0x000000FE (0x00000008, 0x00000006, 0x00000006, 0x877330000) upon where my computer would not start up with any USB devices plugged in and it always require me to run startup repair before it started. Upon when I first started it up and was able to fully boot windows, I had no use of the mouse so I was unable to install the fix that the windows solutions center brought up on my screen, so I restarted again and installed the fix hoping it would cease the problem, it did not. Upoon starting up after installing the fix and restarting I was confronted with the BSOD 0x000000FE (0x00000008, 0x00000006, 0x00000006, 0x83291000) at which I found the startup repair could not fix the problem and I restored, as I most like should have in the first place. After going through that I read that simply installing the latest defender version from the microsoft site had fixed this problem for others, so I did that, to find I still received the BSOD's. So in a attempt to find a fix to the problem I went to the microsoft answers site to try to find a way to fix the problem, there I was told to simply disable defender and reboot to see if that fixed the problem, upon doing this my computer would no longer even startup, when I boot normally I get to just when the loading screen finishes and then my computer restarts and when I run startup repair, it runs for about 15 seconds and then my computer restarts as well. I have tried running ubuntu live discs in order to simply access the drive and simply copy and paste the 2 month old physical backup I have of my C drive to the C drive, but whenever I run the live OS when it gets to the end of the load screen and is about to boot, the computer again restarts, yet if I put in a gparted disc, I am able to boot it fully, although it does not give me access to the file system just partition managing and when I attempt to access the internet through it, the computer once again restarts. So my question is, how could the update and what has happened prevent me from running the live OS's properly?

  • C# uploading files to IIS server with FTP

    I'm trying to upload an website to an online server programmaticly via C# and using FTP. example C:\website\wwwroot to "ftp://ftp.host.com/website/wwwroot" When I do this, the wesbite says "You do not have permission to view this directory or page." And if I just replaced the webconfig via FileZilla manually , the site starts working. I'm using the edtftp library for .NET Any ideas of whats going on ?

  • DNS MX record workaround

    I use a tk domain name and another web host to host my blog site. I redirect DNS query to xxxhost.[myhost].com and tell my web host my domain name. (since my web host is virtual one) This works OK. But now I want to use an email service provided by third party, which requires adding a MX record to my DNS service. But this cannot be done on my web host management pages. Is there any workaround for this?

  • Network share permission issues

    I have an IIS server running a site, appPool is running under local system, this is done because its easier to have full permissions to certificates and other file based resources on the local server. Problem is when I try write or copy a file to a network share, permissions are obviously not in place on the remote system for the IIS server local system. Is it possible to grant permissions on the remote system to include read/write or even full access to the IIS servers local system account?

  • Exchange 2003 very reliant of 1 on 4 AD servers, Freezes without it

    On-site we have 3 of 4 AD servers (AD1,AD2 and AD4) with AD1 having most of the Operational Master Roles, however when AD2 goes down, freezes or reboots outlook says 'waiting for exchange server AD2', when exchange is on a different box completely. AD4 was just built from scratch and added hoping to get around this reliance on AD2 but it doesn't seem to have any effect, had a look through exchange settings and couldn't find any locations it points to AD2 and no other active directory servers. Would appreciate some help on the matter, Thank You

  • MySQL not respond when overheaded

    I have few Drupal 6 websites on webhosting, which causes this strange problem: some tables, especially Cache and Watchdog, tend to overhead, when overhead is bigger than some amount of kB, MySQL server is refusing connection to given Drupal database or connection is broken during query execution, Optimizing table (just overheaded rows) in phpMyAdmin is putting all back to normal. But - until database is optimized, site is showing just MySQL errors, which is ugly... Where is a problem? Thank you for any hints I could pass back to the hosting admins!
