  • JVM throws OutOfMemory during gc though there are plenty memory left...

    I have my java application configured to use 5G memory. I got an OutOfMemory out of blue. I inspected the gc log and found plenty of memory left: young generation occupies 4% allocated space, tenure generation occupancy is 5% and perm generation is 43%. I am puzzled why JVM throws an OutOfMemory at the gc time. Does anyone know why this is happening? Your help is greatly appreciated.   • Authlogic OpenID: Fetching E-Mail from Provider.

    This is a really weird problem: I have set up the authlogic_openid_selector_example app. When i register, the email id is not returned by the openid provider the first time. But if i delete the account and register again, the email id is returned. But this doesn't seem to be happening in the example hosted here: http://big-glow-mama.heroku.com/. How do i fix this problem? Has this got to do with caching? I have hosted my version of the app here: http://pingauthtest.heroku.com/ I guess the author of authlogic_openid_selector_example app (@holden) has forgotten to commit new changes. :) I looked at my development log and the first time the provider doesn't return the openid.ext1.value.ext0 which contains the email id. This is returned the second time only after having deleted the account first.     Hi I am doing Silverlight 4 In my database, I have a store procedure(having two parameters) which returns rows (with extra fields). So i have to make a complex type for those rows on my Models. And Making a service to call that function import store procedure. The RIA will automatically create a matching Entity(to the complex type) and an operation for me. However, I don't know how to validation the parameters of the operation on both client and server side. For example, the parameter must be an integer only (and greater than 10) or datetime only. below is my xaml code. I am using DomainDataSource control and don't know how to validate the two field parameter.It has two TextBox to let the user types in the value of parameters.   • Defining where on the page the flowdocument I am printing will 'start' and 'end'

    Dear community. I am almost done with implementing a printing functionality, but I am having trouble getting the last hurdle done with. My problem is, that I am printing some reports, consisting of a header (with information about the person the report is about), a footer (with a page number) and the content in the middle, which is a FlowDocument. Since the flowdocuments can be fairly long, It is very possible that they will span multiple pages. My approach is to make a custom FlowDocumentPaginator which derives from DocumentPaginator. In there i define my header and my footer. However, when I print my page, the flowdocument and my header and footer are on top of eachother.     Hi, I am trying to use dijit.InlineEditBox. I don't understand the logic in this system... why is dijit generating the style directly inside the element? how can I change these properties? Thanks Tom

  • Streaming webcam video in Flash using MP4 encoding

    One of the features of the Flash app I'm working on is to be able to stream a webcam to others. We're just using the built-in webcam support in Flash and sending it through FMS. We've had some people ask for higher quality video, but we're already using the highest quality setting we can in Flash (setting quality to 100%). My understanding is that in the newer flash players they added support for MPEG-4 encoding for the videos. I created a simple test Flex app to try and compare the video quality of the MP4 vs FLV encodings. However, I can't seem to get MP4 to work at all. According to the Flex documentation the only thing I need to do to use MP4 instead of FLV is prepend "mp4:" to the name of the stream when calling publish: Specify the stream name as a string with the prefix mp4: with or without the filename extension. The prefix indicates to the server that the file contains H.264-encoded video and AAC-encoded audio within the MPEG-4 Part 14 container format. When I try this nothing happens. I don't get any events raised on the client side, no exceptions thrown, and my logging on the server side doesn't show any streams starting.     I have a load of nested <ul>'s and <li>'s and I would like to be able to have a hover / selected class on an <li>, and use the keyboard up and down buttons to select up and down on the <li>s.. however they are nested and need to jump across <ul>s if necessary. For instance: <ul> <li class='cat'> cat 1 <ul> <li class='hover'>item 1</li> <li>item 2</li> <li>item 3</li> <li>item 4</li> </ul> </li> <li class='cat'> cat 2 <ul> <li>item 5</li> <li>item 6</li> <li>item 7</li> <li>item 8</li> </ul> <ul class='subcat'> <li class='cat'> Cat 3 <ul> <li>item 9</li> <li>item 10</li> <li>item 11</li> <li>item 12</li> </ul> </li> </ul> </li> <li class='cat'> cat 4 <ul> <li>item 13</li> <li>item 14</li> <li>item 15</li> <li>item 16</li> </ul> </li> </ul> As I press the down key I wish the items to be selected in numerical order (they do not have numerical order IDs and sometimes some of them are hidden so they should be ignored. But it needs to go to the next <li> that isn't a category and set that as hover.

  • Alternatives to requiring users to register for an account?

    I'm working on a side project to build a new web app idea of mine. For the sake of discussion, let's say this app displays a random photograph of a famous work of art. On a scale of 1 to 5, users are asked to rate how well they like each piece of art, and then are shown the next photo. Eventually, the app is able to get an sense of the person's style and is able to recommend artwork that he/she may find pleasing. The whole concept is similar to Netflix. I understand how to do all the preference matching logic (although not as sophisticated as Netflix). But I'd like to find a way to do this without requiring that users create an account first. This is a novelty website that a typical user might use only a handful of times. Requiring registration is overkill and will likely drastically reduce it's utility. I'd like to allow people to begin rating artwork within five seconds of their initial pageview, yet maintain the integrity of the voting (since recommendations are predicated on how other people have rated the various pieces of artwork). Can it be done? Some ideas: OpenID. The perfect solution except for the fact that it's not wildly used and my target audience isn't the most technically adept demographic. Text message. User inputs phone number and is texted a four digit code to key into the web app. Quick, easy, and great way to limit abuse. However, privacy concerns abound... people are probably even less likely to give me their phone number than their email address. Facebook login. I personally don't have a Facebook account due to privacy concerns. And I'd really hate to support such a proprietary platform. Hash code/Bookmark. Vistor's initial pageview generates a 5 or 6 digit alphanumeric code that is embedded in each subsequent URL. They can bookmark any page to save their state. Good: Very simple system that doesn't require any user action. Bad: Very easy to stuff the ballot box, might be difficult to account for users sharing the link containing their ID code via email or social networking sites.

    I am building an app on android and running into an error and while searching on net, came across your posting on this and changed the eclipse.ini to increase Xms and Xmx params but still this error does not go away.   • I just can't kill Java thread.

    I have a thread that downloads some images from internet using different proxies. Sometimes it hangs, and can't be killed by any means. public HttpURLConnection uc; public InputStream in; Proxy proxy = new Proxy(Proxy.Type.HTTP, new InetSocketAddress("server", 8080)); URL url = new URL("http://images.com/image.jpg"); uc = (HttpURLConnection)url.openConnection(proxy); uc.setConnectTimeout(30000); uc.setAllowUserInteraction(false); uc.setDoOutput(true); uc.addRequestProperty("User-Agent","Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 6.0; Windows NT 5.0)"); uc.connect(); in = uc.getInputStream(); When it hangs, it freezes at the uc.getInputStream() method. I made a timer which tries to kill the thread if it's run time exceeds 3 minutes. I tried .terminate() the thread. No effect. I tried uc.disconnect() from the main thread. The method also hangs and with it, the main thread. I tried in.close(). No effect. I tried uc=null, in=null hoping for an exception that will end the thread. It keeps running. It never passes the uc.getInputStream() method. In my last test the thread lasted over 14 hours after receiving all above commands (or various combinations). I had to kill the Java process to stop the thread. If I just ignore the thread, and set it's instance to null, the thread doesn't die and is not cleaned by garbage collector. I know that because if I let the application running for several days, the Java process takes more and more system memory. In 3 days it took 10% of my 8Gb. RAM system. It is impossible to kill a thread whatever?
