• Can a Windows Domain play along with a Hosted Exchange service?

  I'm setting up a computer network for a small (10-20 people) company. They are currently using a Hosted Exchange service they are totally happy with. Other than that, they are starting from scratch (office doesn't even have furniture yet). They will need some kind of file sharing server set up in their office. If I set up a machine as a file server and nothing more, users will have three passwords to deal with: local machine, file server, and email. If I set up a Domain Controller, identities for local machine and file server will be the same. But what about the Hosted Exchange server? Must the users have a separate email password, or is it possible to combine the two? (I realize it might depend on the specific hosting provider, but is it possible?) If not, it seems like I have these options: Deal with it: users have a separate email password. Host Exchange on the local server: more than they want to manage in-house? Purchase a hosted VPS, make it part of the domain, and host Exchange there. (Or can/should a VPS be a domain controller?) I realize I have a lot of questions in there. The main one: is there any reason to use a Hosted Exchange service if I'm setting up other Windows services?

• Cocoa Services Programming - How to identify whether the selected item is a folder or file wih NSFi

  Hi , I have some queries regarding Services menu validation . I would like to enable different services provided by my app based on whether a file or folder is selected in the Finder. I have set NSFilenamesPboardType as the send type for the services . I have gone through the - (id)validRequestorForSendType:(NSString *)sendType returnType:(NSString *)returnType method but my issue is that the validation there seems to be done based on the sendType and return type. In my case , the selected file and folder pasteboard type is the same and I cannot determine whether the selected item in the Finder is a file or folder during the validation process ( This is before the actual service gets invoked i.e when the services menu is being shown to the user ) ? So my question is that is there any way I can get some info about the selected item in the Finder and validate the different service menus offered by my application based on some info regarding the item rather than the basic validation of the send and return types ? I am not able to find out any manner to do so but "Folder Actions" service in Snow Leopard gets enabled only for folders so it can be done. I did a /System/Library/CoreServices/pbs -dump_pboard and it is using a NSFilenamePBoardType also yet manages to activate only for folders. Thanks in advace for any help .

• How to define default values optional fields in play framework forms?

  I am implementing a web api using the scala 2.0.2 play framework. I would like to extract and validate a number of get parameters. And for this I am using a play "form" which allows me to define optional fields. Problem: For those optional fields, I need to define a default value if the parameter is not passed. The code is intended to parse correctly these three use cases: /test?top=abc (error, abc is not an integer) /test?top=123 (valid, top is 123) /test (valid, top is 42 (default value)) I have come up with the following code: def test = Action { implicit request => case class CData(top:Int) val p = Form( mapping( "top" -> optional(number) )((top) => CData($top.getOrElse(42))) ((cdata:CData) => Some(Some(cdata.top))) ).bindFromRequest() Ok("all done.") } The code works, but it's definitely not elegant. There is a lot of boiler plate going on just to set up a default value for a missing request parameter. Can anyone suggest a cleaner and more coincise solution?

  Hey guys, I've been beating my head against this absolutely infuriating bug for the last 48 hours, so I thought I'd finally throw in the towel and try asking here before I throw my laptop out the window. I'm trying to parse the response XML from a call I made to AWS SimpleDB. Here's the bizarre part -- it works great inside the local server. The response comes in, I parse it, everyone's happy. Nothing; it passes every validation test I could throw at it. Even stranger, it happens if I use a Saxon-based parser as well -- but ONLY on GAE, it always works fine in my local environment. It makes it very hard to trace the code for problems when I can only run the debugger on an environment that works perfectly (I haven't found any good way to remotely debug on GAE). Nevertheless, using the primitive means I have, I've tried a million approaches including: XML with and without the prolog With and without newlines With and without the "encoding=" attribute in the prolog Both newline styles With and without the chunking information present in the HTTP stream And I've tried most of these in multiple combinations where it made sense they would interact -- nothing! I'm at my wit's end. Has anyone seen an issue like this before that can hopefully shed some light on it? Thanks!

I am trying to use the JDO Storage capabilities with Google App Engine Java. • File Fix-it codegolf (GCJ 2010 1B-A)

  Last year (2009), the Google Code Jam featured an interesting problem as the first problem in Round 1B: Decision Tree As the problem seemed tailored for Lisp-like languages, we spontaneously had an exciting codegolf here on SO, in which a few languages managed to solve the problem in fewer characters than any Lisp variety, using quite a number of different techniques. This year's Round 1B Problem A (File Fix-it) also seems tailored for a particular family of languages, Unix shell scripts. So continuing the "1B-A tradition" would be appropriate. :p But which language will end up with the shortest code? Let us codegolf and see! Problem description (adapted from official page): You are given T test cases. Each test case contains N lines that list the full path of all directories currently existing on your computer. For example: /home/awesome /home/awesome/wheeeeeee /home/awesome/wheeeeeee/codegolfrocks /home/thecakeisalie Next, you are given M lines that list the full path of directories you would like to create. They are in the same format as the previous examples. You can create a directory using the mkdir command, but you can only do so if the parent directory already exists. For example, to create the directories /pyonpyon/fumufumu/yeahyeah and /pyonpyon/fumufumu/yeahyeahyeah, you would need to use mkdir four times: mkdir /pyonpyon mkdir /pyonpyon/fumufumu mkdir /pyonpyon/fumufumu/yeahyeah mkdir /pyonpyon/fumufumu/yeahyeahyeah For each test case, return the number of times you have to call mkdir to create all the directories you would like to create.   I have a custom php page that processes a feed of images and makes albums out of it. However whenever i add pictures to my feed, the Drupal page doesn't change until I clear the caches. • Java unit test coverage numbers do not match.

  Below is a class I have written in a web application I am building using Java Google App Engine. I have written Unit Tests using TestNG and all the tests pass. I then run EclEmma in Eclipse to see the test coverage on my code. All the functions show 100% coverage but the file as a whole is showing about 27% coverage. Where is the 73% uncovered code coming from? • Analysis Services (SSAS) - Unexpected Internal Error when processing (ProcessUpdate). Workaround/Resolution

  Many implementations require the use of ProcessUpdate to support Type 1 slowly changing dimensions. ProcessUpdate drops all of the affected indexes and aggregations in partitions affected by data that changes in the Dimension on which the ProcessUpdate is being performed. Twice now I have had situations where the processing fails with "Internal error: An unexpected exception occurred." Any subsequent ProcessUpdate processing will also fail with the same error. In talking with Microsoft the issue is corrupt indexes for the Dimension(s) being processed in the partitions of the affected measure group. I cannot guarantee that the following will correct your problem but it did in my case and saved us quite a bit of down time.   Workaround: ProcessIndexes on the entire cube that is being processed and throwing the error. This corrected the problem on both 2008 and 2008 R2.   Pros:  Does not require a complete rebuild of the data (ProcessFull) for either the Dimension or Cube. User access can continue while this ProcessIndexes in underway.   Cons: Can take a long time, especially on large cubes with many partitions, dimensions and/or aggregations. ProcessFull on the partition in question. In my latest case, this would clear up the problem for that partition. However, the next partition the ProcessUpdate touched that had data in it would generate and error. This leads me to believe the corruption problem will exist in all partitions in the affected measure group that have data in them.   NOTE: I experience this problem in both a SQL 2008 and SQL 2008 R2 Analysis Services environment, on separate built from the same relational database. This leads me to believe that some data condition in the tables used for the Dimension processing caused the corruption since the two environments were on physically separate hardware. I am waiting on Microsoft to analyze the dumps to give us more insight into what actually caused the corruption and will update this post accordingly.

• How do you use environment variables, such as %CommonProgramFiles%, in the PATH and have them recognized by services.exe?

  I'm trying to add C:\Program Files\Common Files\xxx\xxx to the system PATH environment variable by appending %CommonProgramFiles%\xxx\xxx to the existing path. After rebooting, I open a command prompt and check the PATH. It expands correctly. However, when using Process Explorer from Sysinternals to view the Environment variables on services.exe, it shows the unexpanded version. Coincidentally, the paths using %SystemRoot% expand and are recognized just fine. I've tried altering the PATH through the Environment Variables window from System Properties and through direct Registry manipulation, neither seems to work. Is it possible to use other environment variables, besides %SystemRoot% in PATH and have services.exe understand it?

  I am looking for a particular type of program. I use my computers in various "modes", like gaming, programming, just plain surfing, etc. What I'd like to find is a program that can help me manage these modes. For instance, while programming I might use SQL Server, but while gaming I don't want those services running, but perhaps I'd like Steam to run instead. Basically, the program type I'm looking for is a visual program that allow me to quickly switch modes, and when I do, the program would start and stop the necessary services and applications in order to leave one mode and enter another. I've looked at the programs related to startup management, and I haven't found one that lets me do what I want. At the moment I have batch files, but they're not very good at conveying problems or other things, I'd like a more visual program.

I have one static IP, well it's not officially static but hasn't changed in two years so I'll call it static. I have done the following: Configured router NAT/virtual port forward UDP/TCP port 53 to the internal IP of my server 192.168.1.16, in adapter settings specified the manual settings: 192.168.1.16 IP, gateway 192.168.1.1, Subnet: 255.255.255.0 and loopback DNS: 127.0.0.1 Using my public my public IP Checked using http://www.canyouseeme.org/ that port 53 is open and is not being blocked by my ISP. It can see services on this port. Registered Domain name (mydomain.com.au) Updated whois database through the domain registrars site and registered NameServer names: ns0.mydomain.com.au and ns2.mydomain.com.au, both have been associated with my single public IP. (Waited 24 hours) Update the nameserver for mydomain.com.au: primary ns0.mydomain.com.au secondary: ns2.mydomain.com.au (waited 24+ hours) Installed Server 2008 R2, install web server role and DNS role. Webserver works when I enter my public IP into browser of any PC/mobile, get IIS7 welcome page. In DNS server: Created new forward lookup zone: ; ; Database file mydoman.com.au.dns for mydomain.com.au zone. ; Zone version: 10 ; @ IN SOA mydomain.com.au. mydomain.testdomain.com.   I know the question title doesn't make much sense, but I can't think of a better way to put it. There's no errors on the JavaScript console so I'm unsure if it's a syntax error, and probably something obvious, but I don't know what. play() is a function I found to play audio, here it is if it matters at all. Thanks @mattlant This is a dedicated server that's why I'm installing the SMTP manually. EDIT: I use exchange so its a little different, but its called a smart host in exchange, but in plain SMTP service config i think its called something else. Cant remember exactly the setting name. Thank you for pointing me at the Smart host field. Mail is getting delivered now.   I'm running into an issue when trying to geolocate users whom are using blackberry devices. Currently there are a few checks that I go through to geolocate the individual the first, using the navigator paramater inside browsers. if(navigator.geolocation) if this fails then I have a backup using a free service (for testing) from maxmind: See Here Yet this doesn't return back the city at all either. I have moved everything I didn't need in /etc/apt/sources.list.d/ into the trash. My source.list is all Natty while I am running Oneiric. So maybe I need a new source.list? When this message pops my computer just stuck and I can not even restart it normally. I have found one fix on net but after that fix I can not access my LAN. This fix change these values in registry. HKLM\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\netbt\parameters TransportBindName HKLM\Software\Microsoft\OLE EnableDCOM If I revert these registry changes then I again start getting 'Generic Host Process For Win32 Services' I have uninstall VS 2010 but this problem persist. This problem is not because of any virus. Any help to fix this or I have to re install Windows. Thanks.

Short background story, I read this article over at MSDN with focus on Composite Applications In this figure there's three things, the shell, the application services and the modules. So that's a composite application. What I don't fully get is the application services part. What's the service, what does it look like? How do you expose a service through a module and how do you consume a service from a different module? I'd really like to see some neat small code examples, nothing fancy but something to illustrate how all this comes to life (the application services part).

• Red Hat cluster: Failure of one of two services sharing the same virtual IP tears down IP

  I'm creating a 2+1 failover cluster under Red Hat 5.5 with 4 services of which 2 have to run on the same node, sharing the same virtual IP address. One of the services on each node needs a (SAN) disk, the other doesn't. I'm using HA-LVM. When I shut down (via ifdown) the two interfaces connected to the SAN to simulate SAN failure, the service needing the disk is disabled, the other keeps running, as expected. Surprisingly (and unfortunately), the virtual IP address shared by the two services on the same machine is also removed, rendering the still-running service useless. How can I configure the cluster to keep the IP address up?
