    Need to share few information regarding SSL certificates and there types, which SSL certificates are widely used etc. There are several SSL certificates available in the market today inorder to secure your domains, multiple subdomains, your applications and code too. Few of the details are mentioned below. CheapSSL certificates available today are Standard Rapidssl certificate, Thwate SSL 123 etc certificates which are basic level certificates. Most of these cheap SSL certificates are domain-validated only and don't provide the greatest trust for your customers. This means you shouldn't use cheap SSL certificates on e-commerce stores or other public-facing sites that require people to trust the site. EV certificates I found Geotrust Truebusinessid with EV certificate which is one of the cheapest certificate available in market today, you can also find Thwate, Versign EV version of certificates. Its designed to prevent phishing attacks better than normal SSL certificates. What makes an EV Certificate so special? An SSL Certificate Provider has to do some extensive validation to give you one including: Verifying that your organization is legally registered and active, Verifying the address and phone number of your organization, Verifying that your organization has exclusive right to use the domain specified in the EV Certificate, Verifying that the person ordering the certificate has been authorized by the organization, Verifying that your organization is not on any government blacklists. SSL WILDCARD CERTIFICATES, SSL Wildcard Certificates are big money-savers. An SSL Wildcard Certificate allows you to secure an unlimited number of first-level sub-domains on a single domain name. For example, if you need to secure the following websites: * www.yourdomain.com * secure.yourdomain.com * product.yourdomain.com * info.yourdomain.com * download.yourdomain.com * anything.yourdomain.com and all of these websites are hosted on the multiple server box, you can purchase and install one Wildcard certificate issued to *.yourdomain.com to secure all these sites. SAN CERTIFICATES, are interesting certificates and are helpfull if you want to secure multiple domains by generating single CSR and can install the same certificate on your additional sites without generating new CSRs for all the additional domains. CODE SIGNING CERTIFICATES, A code signing certificate is a file containing a digital signature that can be used to sign executables and scripts in order to verify your identity and ensure that your code has not been tampered with since it was signed. This helps your users to determine whether your software can be trusted. Scroll to the chart below to compare cheap code signing certificates. A code signing certificate allows you to sign code using a private and public key system similar to how an SSL certificate secures a website. When you request a code signing certificate, a public/private key pair is generated. The certificate authority will then issue a code signing certificate that contains the public key.   • Clustering/load balancing for cluster unaware applications

    Forgive me if I use any of these terms incorrectly. I am wondering if there is any kind of software that would allow my two "join" two computers together such that a cluster unaware application could utilize their combined computing resources? By "cluster unaware" I mean an application that isn't designed to share work across multiple services. My understanding is that clustering is enabled by the specific application by it's architecture, such that messaging with multiple instances of the application coordinate the sharing of work. Instead I am looking for something that enables clustering at the OS or virtualization level, so that any application could essentially be clustered. Failing that, I am also wondering about the following scenario: We have 3 different applications we will call A, B, and C. We have 2 single core computers. At any given time lets say that any combination of those applications will be CPU intensive. In cases where only 2 of those apps are very active, have one of them moved over to a different server. In a nutshell, some sort of dynamic automatic shuffling of the application's load. I have heard of virtual machines that can be migrated across physical machines while live, but I am wondering if this can be done automatically in response to an application's or VM's CPU activity?

  • Only tunnel certain applications via OpenVPN

    Hi, I've purchased a VPN solution, it works correctly when I have "redirect-gateway def1" in the configuration file (routing all traffic through the VPN). However when I remove that line from the configuration file, I am still able to ping-out of the machine (ping -I tap0), however I cannot ping the IP assigned to the machine (it's a public ip), i get the error: Destination Host Unreachable. I only want to have certain applications sending traffic through the VPN tunnel (eg: ZNC, irssi), all of which i can select which IP they use. However they can't recieve any data, making the tunnel essentially useless to me when disabling redirect-gateway. Any ideas on how to allow specific applications use the tunnel, without of forcing everything to go through it?   • Windows 8 Windows Store (Metro/ModernUI) applications not working (just show 'busy' animation or white screen)

    I have a Dell XPS 15 which shipped with Windows 7 x64, which I recently upgraded to Windows 8. The process went surprisingly smoothly (given that this was an upgrade, not a complete re-install), and the system generally seems very stable. However, today I noticed that several of the Windows Store apps don't work: they all behave in the same way, launching but then showing a spinning 'wait' animation indefinitely. This is affecting the standard Microsoft Mail, Store, Weather, News, Travel, Finance, Sport, Games and Music apps. The Bing app just shows a Bing logo on a coloured background (but no wait animation). The Calendar, Photos and SkyDrive apps open but then show a white screen. The Maps and Camera apps work without problems. The live tiles on the Start screen are updating correctly, for example the Mail app's tile shows a summary of new mail despite the Mail app's problems. All of these applications were working correctly a few days ago. I'm sure I've used several without problems since the last Windows update occurred on 7th November. Any suggestions on what might have happened and/or how to fix it would be very welcome. I don't need these Windows Store applications, but the fact that they're not working is irritating me.

  • Several web applications on a single port

    We're developing an online browser-based game. The game itself is a plugin in the web page, that uses TCP connection to a game server, and also sends http requests to "content server" web application. This makes 3 servers total: the site itself, game server and content server. Site and content server are IIS web applications, game server is a custom application communicating over TCP with proprietary protocol. While the game is in beta stage, all these servers are physically hosted on a single machine, and distinguished by ports. For example, website is game.example.com:80, game server is game.example.com:34285 and content server is game.example.com:50000. This works OK most of the time, but some of our players have ports other than 80 closed. Is there any way to make all these application work through port 80, while still having them one one physical server? Maybe using different sub-domains? There's probably a way to make IIS forward requests to different web applications based on URL alone, but that doesn't help with game server. Edit Server is Windows Server 2008, IIS 7

Unfortunately I uninstalled VMWare Fusion, and my Mac still has applications in VMWare Fusion associated with it. How can I remove the associations?   • Windows 7 laptop fonts DPI is too big breaking certain applications

    I have just installed windows 7 on a laptop and the fonts seem to be doing weird things, Ive adjusted the DPI back to 100% (was 125% by default) however certain applications (old delphi programmed ones) do not look correct still. Here is a screen shot comparing my laptop to my PC running the same software (ROCLink RTU configuration software), the PC looks fine but the laptop does not. Does anyone know where the problem may lie or what I should try next? Thanks

  • Managing two internet connections in Windows XP, with different applications using different connections

    I have two internet connections, one has limited data but is fast, the other has unlimited data but is slow. What am trying to do is assign the unlimited data connection to the application which is downloading a large file, while surfing the net (using Firefox) with the other, faster connection. I tried connecting both connections, but every time I do that, all the applications just jump from the slower connection to the faster one. Is there any way in which I could achieve what I am looking for?

  • Deployment/provisioning tool for commercial applications (not developed in-house)

    I help manage a few hosted commercial applications, and we have a lot of manual processes involved when doing new customer-instance deployments into the shared (multitenant) environment. Allow me to describe the most relevant features, and then we can talk about the tools. We have an application on AIX, that requires dozens of changes to config files (some plain text, some XML) as well as a good number of commands to be run on multiple servers - some to start the new instance, some to restart our shared authentication and reporting engines, etc. The config changes follow templates, of course. The servers in question will also depend on the initial conditions specified by the implementer/deployer - we may choose to deploy a given customer to our servers in Europe, or one set of servers may be active-active whereas a different set of servers is active-passive - in short, there's a lot of complications. We have another application that run on IIS 6 and SQL. The DBAs don't want any automation of the SQL components and that's fine with me, but automating the IIS bit would be great. For a new customer instance, we make a filesystem copy of a template Virtual Directory target named after the new customer, make a new AppPool to match, edit a VirDir template .xml file to replace the filepaths and AppPool names with the new ones, and then make a new VirDir from the modified template XML to point to the new filesystem folder and app pool. For the first case, something like ControlTier or Chef might be good. For the second, the new(ish) Web Deploy from MS would probably do a good job. Has anyone used these tools or others to do something similar for applications? More of a nice-to-have, not a fixed requirement - Has anyone used anything that works on both platforms? I'm looking for something free, because the official word is that within a year, we will have whatever HP has renamed the OpsWare suite, which should be able to do stuff like this. Edit - based on someone's suggestion, looking at CFengine for the AIX application, it doesn't seem to address my pain. The problem isn't keeping a given config synced across dozens of servers, we have rsync for that. The problem is that onboarding a new customer instance touches dozens of files, putting pieces of the same or similar information into them - some are new stanzas in existing files, some are new files, and some are new directories. This is a several-hours-long process that is also error-prone because it's mostly done by hand. I guess I'm looking for config-file generation and management. I have built a small Perl script to do something similar for a much smaller case - it binds a CSV file into variables, and then does a copy-and-search-and-replace from a set of template config files. I could probably do the same here.

    I have an application in one of my application pools that has a virtual path of '/Site/login.aspx'. I want to remove it but it no longer exists on my computer and it's causing me issues setting up AppFabric. I understand that you can remove these phantom applications by recreating the application in IIS and then hitting Remove. That will get rid of the application from the pool but in this case I can't recreate the application due to the /login.aspx in the virtual path Any ideas how I remove this erroneous entry? Thanks

For example, I can login to Webmoney from console using links/lynx/link2 (but not w3m), entering captcha (using aaxine) and do operations there, but can't login not using X.509 certificate (even if I try to separate SSL part using "socat tcp-l:... openssl:...:443,cert=extracted_from_firefox.pem") Is there some program that behaves like fully-fledged browser (build DOM/execute JS/Support all features except of actually displaying things), but without GUI and dependencies on GUI libraries?
