• Problem with text deletion in vi editor

  When I am writing C code on the vi editor, I am not able to use the backspace keys or my arrow keys to delete or navigate through lines. Some unexpected special characters occur on the screen that is on middle of my code and I am not able to delete them also. If I use my delete key, the whole code gets deleted. I have tried both insert mode using 'i' and 'a'. I am able to manage this situation for C programming by using the text editors but when I am creating LeX and yacc programs, I find this awkward. Can you please help me with this?

• Is PluralSight worth the cost [closed]

  I am an looking at a few different supplemental learning courses to help me beef up my skills but unsure which one to use. I am interested in PluralSight because I work for the government and they use all Microsoft technologies for the most part. I like the courses on PluralSight but the price tag is pretty hefty. I am not sure how good the courses are because I cannot view the ones I want so I am a tad bit skeptical. I am sure some of you have PluralSight, do you think its a good investment for your learning or should I just stick with books/internet? Any suggestions?

  I am trying to figure out the best way to render a 2d game at any resolution. I am currently rendering the game at 1920x1200. I am trying scale the game to any user selected resolution without changing the way I am rendering, or game logic. What is the best way to scale a game to any arbitrary resolution? Edit: I am trying to achieve this: http://www.david-amador.com/2010/03/xna-2d-independent-resolution-rendering/ but I think the code he has is for a different version of XNA because I cannot find that method overload he uses.

  I am trying to find an open source sport management game, much like the link below, but am failing to do so. There are two links provided in the below question that are both fine,'except for one minor problem - I only know java! Is there an open source sports manager project? After some googling, I have been unsuccessful in finding a sports management game that is written in java. • How do I get my RTL8192ce based wireless device working properly?

  I am using the rtl8192cu chipset (on a Belkin wireless USB adapter N300) combined with 64 bit architecture and the 3.8 kernel. Some of you may know that this doesn't work. I tried this fix - RTL8188CU USB Network Adaptor on ubuntu 13.04 and now my internet is super slow. I am totally new to Ubuntu and I am concerned I do not have the right driver. The "stock" driver was the RTL8192cu, but it didn't connect 99% of the time and if it did the upload speed was higher than the download. Right now I am connecting through my laptop with a crossover cable, so my internet connection is just fine in my apartment. Relevant output from lsusb is here: Bus 002 Device 002: ID 050d:2103 Belkin Components F7D2102 802.11n N300 Micro Wireless Adapter v3000 [Realtek RTL8192CU] (bonus question: is that [050d:2103] the actual physical address straight from the hardware? Or does it change when I put different drivers on it? I am concerned I do not have the right driver)

  I am trying to do some changes to my myApp.js file of coco2dx project for android in eclipse but I am not able to do it. I am actually trying to change the default background image of my app. But when I run my project all the changes goes back to before values For Eg: This is the default line wer we are setting our background image this.sprite = cc.Sprite.create("res/HelloWorld.png"); I am changing it to the following line: this.sprite = cc.Sprite.create("res/CloseNormal.png"); But when I run my project CloseNormal.png goes back to HelloWorld.png I am using: OS: Win7 Cocos2d Ver: cocos2dx 2.2.2 Why is this happening. Can anybody help me?

• Is there a (free) reliable place to get statistics from sites, more reliable than Alexa, Quantcast, Compete?

  I mean, seems there's no way. I am just asking in case someone knows of a recent new site being more accurate. I am aware of Alexa's, Compete and Quantcast inaccuracies and/or limited system/range of sites to get their stats. I also know about websitegrader perhaps being a little more accurate (although not sure if that's the data I am after). And read Seomoz tools are reliable. I am yet though looking for a free solution, a 'reliable' Alexa. And not a place depending on a toolbar installation, an easy to trick place, or one with stats way too off, or of a very limited range of sites. I am almost sure there's nothing new, but I wanted to be sure.

• How to get output from upstart jobs when logged in via SSH?

  Hi, at the moment, I am trying to learn upstart and can't get around a basic problem. To monitor what my job definitions are doing, I would like to see text output from the jobs. That does not seem to be possible when I am logged on via SSH. Currently, I am having this problem with Natty 11.04, but I am convinced that it is a more common one. Probably I just don't know about some important, yet very basic, fact. A simple job file I use (filename /etc/init/test.conf): description "test" start on test console owner kill timeout 5 task script /bin/echo Gotcha... end script My goal is to see the text "Gotcha..." when doing "initctl emit test" or "initctl start test". • XNA Monogame GameState Management not deserilaizing

  I am having some trouble serializing/deserializing in a little game I am doing to teach myself monogame. Basically, I am using the gamestatemnanagement resources common to monogame (screen manager etc). Then I am serializing my screen manager component and all associated screens in the OnDeactivated method: protected override void OnDeactivated(Object sender, EventArgs args) { foreach (GameplayScreen screen in mScreenManager.GetScreens()) { DataManager.SaveData(screen.Level.LevelData); } mScreenManager.SerializeState(); } The Save data bit is to do with something else. Then I then override OnActivated to de serialize protected override void OnActivated(Object sender, EventArgs args) { //System.Diagnostics.Debug.WriteLine("here activating"); mScreenManager.DeserializeState(); } However, when this runs it just loads a blank screen - it goes into the game initialize and the game draw method, but doesnt go down into the screens initialize or draw methods.   I am aware of the ObjectForScripting property provided for the WebBrowser control, which is provided for WinForms application. I am using the WebBrowser control in a smart device application. I am not able to find this property. Is it documented somewhere that ObjectForScripting is not available for Windows CE? (Got solved in StackOverflow) Also, are there any alternatives? • Use Android NDK for portability with iOS?

  I am currently planning to implement a little painting app using OpenGL ES 1.1. I believe this question applies to any OpenGL ES project. I am starting development on Android and I would like to know if you would recommend writing the drawing logic (using OpenGL) in C++ with the NDK so it will easier to port to iOS, or to use the Java API and being locked on Android. The reason I am asking that is because I have seen mixed opinions on the Web about using the NDK (some people say it is an added level of complexity). From what I have already seen, I believe that I should go with the Java API since I am starting on Android and then, if I decide to go on iOS, to rewrite the OpenGL logic in Objective-C or C++. This should be pretty straightforward since the calls appear to be the same in both languages. What do you think? Am I right?

  I am bit confusing about my goals although whole motivation thing is $$$ but still there is something pushing me to pursue higher studies(being frustrated from boot-licking attitudes of peers and lottery system here in India for promotions,pay hikes and onshore opportunities).   I am currently taking Business IT Foundation Degree course which involves SDLC and its my first year. I will be going out in the industry for the second year and I would just like to know some facts before launching out. I have been asked to create a system to enable the company to manage their staff and also to create a windows based system where users can register, view their details and so on. I am required to create: Several UML use case diagrams A conceptual class Diagram Test cases and test logs These have to been done for the windows based system. My concern is that I am not sure what a windows based system is and secondly I am having difficulties creating the diagrams as I am not familiar with them.   First off, I am new to Ubuntu. I come from a Windows background (DOS before that) and am loving it so far. I installed it on an older Dell laptop that I wanted to get another year out of. I set this machine up primarily as a LAMP development machine for a project I am working on. The machine is a Vostro 1500 and it has 4GB RAM (maxed) and an upgraded hard drive. I can't watch YouTube videos for long before it starts to overheat and start acting sporadic. I can live without YouTube but every so often the application switching (alt-tab) gets slower and begins not showing all applications and the Dash home quits displaying properly. I am sure I am asking a lot of this old machine. What I really want to know is: are there any settings in Ubuntu that allow me to lower the graphic effects (fade-ins, transparencies, fancy transitions, etc) that would be less taxing on the video card?

And I want to reset it as the sidebar is always shown when I am viewing my desktop (although it hides automatically if I am using other applications) and Alt+Tab switches the windows in a different, poor way (not the default one of Ubuntu 11.10).

• How to restore "working folders" upon restart?

  I am not sure I am working the problem correctly but I will try my best. I am newbie to ubuntu and I am using Ubuntu 11.10. On a daily basis but I have a set of 5-10 folders which I need to refer for my work. I am looking for a way if I can create a "workspace" of these folders so that upon restart in a single click all the folders in the workspace can be opened in different tabs. Another option that I right now plan to use us create links of the folders and then select all of them and open in different tabs. Was wondering if there is a cleaner option already provided in ubuntu.

  ok, I have a few questions regarding mysql. I am currently running ubuntu 12.04.4 LTS command line version. I am looking for a database that I can use. I am confused at this point because I am uninformed. mysql is just one database that is on the server? or can it contain several or many databases What programs do I use to access it on the server or is it a vt-100 type access? I understand that mysql comes with lamp? or ubuntu. I am thinking that it is already installed but not sure how to access it, but that is another question for later. Outside of the man pages and the ubuntu manual, is there a site for its setup and use? Thanks!

• Unable to make changes in Drive

  I have just installed Ubuntu 14.04 and I created 2 partitions. First has 50 GB and the other has 250 GB. Everything works in the system drive (create folder, cut/copy) but I am unable to make any changes the the other drive. It opens normally but I am unable to create folder, cut/copy/paste or make any changes.I checked the permissions under 'properties' and it says I am not the owner and all options are greyed out. However when I check system information it says that I am the Administrator. I am attaching two pics for your reference. Thanks in advance
