I came across a C applicaiton, FontForge. It does exactly what I need, picks any font and extract its path information.   • TextRenderer.DrawText renders Arial differently on XP vs Vista

    I have a c# application that does text rendering, something on par with a simple wysiwyg text editor. I'm using TextRenderer.DrawText to render the text to the screen and GetTextExtentPoint32 to measure text so I can position different font styles/sizes on the same line. In Vista this all works fine. In XP however, Arial renders differently, certain characters like 'o' and 'b' take up more width than in Vista. GetTextExtentPoint32 seems to be measuring the string as it would in Vista though, with the smaller widths. The end result is that every now and then a run of text will overlap the text preceding it because the preceding text gets measured as smaller than it actually is on the screen. Also, my text rendering code mimics ie's text rendering exactly (for simple formatting and english language only) and ie text rendering seems to be consistent between vista and xp - that's how I noticed the change in size of the different characters. Anyone have any ideas about what's going on? In short, TextRenderer.DrawText and GetTextExtentPoint32 don't match up in xp for Arial. DrawText seems to draw certain characters larger and/or smaller than it does in Vista but GetTextExtentPoint32 seems to be measuring the text as it would in Vista (which seems to match the text rendering in ie on both xp and vista). Hope that makes sense. Note: unfortunately TextRenderer.MeasureString isn't fast or accurate enough to meet my requirements. I tried using it and had to rip it out.

We tried CodeBlocks but when we installed it in the machines, the text got reversed, I'm not sure what the reaoson is. I would be great if the file size of the editor will not be large. We need just simple features: -Text highlight. -Compile and run. -easy to use -Should run on Windows XP.

  • Request size limitation when using MultipartHttpServletRequest of Spring 3.0

    I'd like to know what is the size limitation if I upload list of files in one client's form submition using HTTP multipart content type. On the server side I am using Spring's MultipartHttpServletRequest to handle the request. mM questions: Is there should be different file size limitation and total request size limitation or file size is the only limitation and the request is capable of uploading 100s of files as lonng as they are not too large. Doest the Spring request wrapper read the complete request and store it in the JAVA heap memory or it store temporaray files of it to be able to use big quota. Is the use of reading the httpservlet request in streaming would change the size limitation than using complete http request read at-once by the application server. What is the bottleneck of this process - Java heap size, the quota of the filesystem on which my web-server runs, the maximum allowed BLOB size that the DataBase in which I am gonna save the file alows? or Spring internal limitations?     Hi, In my iPhone application I need a scrolling text. I had the text to be displayed and scrolled up and down but I could not get customized text. I mean all the text is of same font. I need some different font size text . I am using UITextView, but UITextView do not support customized text in it. How can I have the scrolling text which has different font size. I read that to use UIWebView for this. But, I could not understand how to use it. the text contains no url's no editing.(It need to be just static text to read). How can I do this ? Thank you.

    I need to set the size of an absolutePanel regarding to its child size, but the getOffset* methods return 0 because (i think) the child as not been displayed yet.   • Forcing size of a complex Flash object.

    As I've found recently, setting width/height properties on a Sprite only forces the Sprite to fit the given dimensions by scaling the actual size, which is calculated by Flash based on the rendered content. This leaves me confused. If I have a custom Sprite subclass which draws using Graphics, how can I do layout before an initial render - the size will be zero until it is first drawn? For a more complex issue, let's say I have a 2D game world with objects spread over a wide area with world coordinates from (0,0) to (5000,5000), where each object has a size of maybe up to 100x100. I want to have a Flash component which is the "game window", and has a fixed size like 400x300, rendering part of the game world. So how do I force the game window size to 400x300 pixels? I can draw a 400x300 rectangle to get the size correct but then if I draw any objects which are partly in-view, they can screw this up. Is the right approach to provide a custom setSize(w,h) method which is used rather than width & height setters? But even so, is there no way to make a Sprite force to the size I want? Do you really have to catch it every render and re-scale it?

    Just today I've started using Drupal for a site I'm designing/developing. For my own site http://jwm-art.net I wrote a user-unfriendly CMS in PHP. My brief experience with Drupal is making me want to convert from the CMS I wrote. A CMS whose sole method (other than comments) of automatically publishing content is by logging in via SSH and using NANO to create a plain text file in a format like so*: head<<END_HEAD title = Audio keywords= open,source,audio,sequencing,sampling,synthesis descr = Music, noise, and audio, created by James W.   • How to vertically align text in a button with a background drawable?

    I had a simple button set up with a background image defined like android:background="?attr/button" where ?attr/button was a reference to a simple 9-patch png. Everything worked fine, text in the button was aligned correctly. Then I needed to have a different background for a pressed state of the button. So I changed that to android:background="@drawable/state_button" where @drawable/state_button is an xml with the following states <?xml version="1.0" encoding="utf-8"?> <selector xmlns:android="http://schemas.android.com/apk/res/android"> <item android:state_pressed="true" android:drawable="@drawable/button_pressed" /> <!-- pressed --> <item android:state_focused="true" android:drawable="@drawable/button_pressed" /> <!-- focused --> <item android:drawable="@drawable/button" /> <!-- default --> </selector> And after that I can't align the text properly. If I put android:gravity="center_vertical" the text is drawn about 1/4 of the button height from the top. I double-checked my 9-patch images, everything seems fine with them. And I also tried having regular pngs for the background, it also doesn't change anything.
