• Reflection & Parameters in C#

  Hello, I'm writing an application that runs "things" to a schedule. Idea being that the database contains assembly, method information and also the parameter values. The timer will come along, reflect the method to be run, add the parameters and then execute the method. Everything is fine except for the parameters. So, lets say the method accepts an ENUM of CustomerType where CustomerType has two values of CustomerType.Master and CustomerType.Associate. EDIT I don't the type of parameter that will be getting passed in. ENUM used as an example END OF EDIT We want to run Method "X" and pass in parameter "CustomerType.Master". In the database, there will be a varchar entry of "CustomerType.Master". How do I convert the string "CustomerType.Master" into a type of CustomerType with a value of "Master" generically?   I am using JAXB to bind XML to Java for an application that I am writing. I have an element called measure which contains two amount elements called amount and maxAmount, with which I want to model a lower and an upper limiting value. amount and maxAmount are otherwise identical and I would like them to be implemented with the same class when unmarshalled into Java.   Hi all, I have a method void foo(list<shared_ptr<Base>>& myList); Which I'm trying to call with a two different types of lists, one of DerivedClass1 and one of DerivedClass2 list<shared_ptr<DerivedClass1>> myList1; foo(myList1); list<shared_ptr<DerivedClass2>> myList2; foo(myList2); However this obviously generates a compiler error error: a reference of type "std::list<boost::shared_ptr<Base>, std::allocator<boost::shared_ptr<Base>>> &" (not const-qualified) cannot be initialized with a value of type "std::list<boost::shared_ptr<DerivedClass1>, std::allocator<boost::shared_ptr<DerivedClass1>>>" Is there any easy way to cast a container of shared_ptr? Of alternate containers that can accomplish this?

• Why does C++ mandate that complex only be instantiated for float, double, or long double?

  According to the C++ ISO spec, §26.2/2: The effect of instantiating the template complex for any type other than float, double or long double is unspecified. Why would the standard authors explicitly add this restriction? This makes it unspecified, for example, what happens if you make complex<int> or a complex<MyCustomFixedPointType> and seems like an artificial restriction. Is there a reason for this limitation? Is there a workaround if you want to instantiate complex with your own custom type? I'm primarily asking this question because of this earlier question, in which the OP was confused as to why abs was giving bizarre outputs for complex<int>. That said, this still doesn't quite make sense given that we also might want to make complex numbers out of fixed-points types, higher-precision real numbers, etc. Thanks!

• Is there any class in the .NET Framework to represent a holding container for objects?

  I am looking for a class that defines a holding structure for an object. The value for this object could be set at a later time than when this container is created. It is useful to pass such a structure in lambdas or in callback functions etc. Say: class HoldObject<T> { public T Value { get; set; } public bool IsValueSet(); public void WaitUntilHasValue(); } // and then we could use it like so ... • Binding Properties.Settings to Textbox fails

  I would like to define a key & value in Settings.settings and bind the value by declaration in the XAML (not in the code behind by command). Here's what I've been trying in vain: Create a WPF project "Exp1" with Visual Studio Express 2010. Set one key named "TextFromSettings" to the value "Some Text from Setting". Add the attribute xmlns:p="clr-namespace:Exp1.Properties;assembly=Exp1" to the tag. Add Text="{Binding Path=TextFromSettings, Mode=TwoWay, Source={x:Static p:Settings.Default}}" to the tag Now, the preview window shows the text, however, the compiler fails: "Error 1 Cannot find the type 'Settings'. Note that type names are case sensitive." Where am I going wrong?

  Well I'm doing some Java - C integration, and throught C library werid type mappings are used (theres more of them;)): #define CHAR char /* 8 bit signed int */ #define SHORT short /* 16 bit signed int */ #define INT int /* "natural" length signed int */ #define LONG long /* 32 bit signed int */ typedef unsigned char BYTE; /* 8 bit unsigned int */ typedef unsigned char UCHAR; /* 8 bit unsigned int */ typedef unsigned short USHORT; /* 16 bit unsigned int */ typedef unsigned int UINT; /* "natural" length unsigned int*/ Is there any legitimate reason not to use them? It's not like char is going to be redefined anytime soon. I can think of: Writing platform/compiler portable code (size of type is underspecified in C/C++) Saving space and time on embedded systems - if you loop over array shorter than 255 on 8bit microprocessor writing: for(uint8_t ii = 0; ii < len; ii++) will give meaureable speedup.

• Doctrine SQL Server uniqueidentifier isn't cast as char or nvarchar when retrieved from the database

  When I retrieve a record from the database which has a column of type "uniqueidentifier", Doctrine fills it with "null" rather than the unique id from the database. Some research and testing has brought this down to a PDO/dblib driver issue. When directly querying via PDO, null is returned in place of the unique id. For reference, http://trac.doctrine-project.org/ticket/1096, has a bit on this, however, it was updated 11 months ago with no comment for resolution. A way around this, as mentioned at http://bugs.php.net/bug.php?id=24752&edit=1, is to cast the column as a char. However, it doesn't seem Doctrine exposes the native field type outside of generating models which makes it a bit hard to detect uniqueidentifier types and cast them internally when building the sql query. Has anyone found a workaround for this?

• How can i mock or test my deferred execution functionality?

  I have what could be seen as a bizarre hybrid of IQueryable<T> and IList<T> collections of domain objects passed up my application stack. I'm trying to maintain as much of the 'late querying' or 'lazy loading' as possible. I do this in two ways: By using a LinqToSql data layer and passing IQueryable<T>s through by repositories and to my app layer. Then after my app layer passing IList<T>s but where certain elements in the object/aggregate graph are 'chained' with delegates so as to defer their loading. Sometimes even the delegate contents rely on IQueryable<T> sources and the DataContext are injected. This works for me so far. What is blindingly difficult is proving that this design actually works. Ie. If i defeat the 'lazy' part somewhere and my execution happens early then the whole thing is a waste of time. I'd like to be able to TDD this somehow. I don't know a lot about delegates or thread safety as it applies to delegates acting on the same source. I'd like to be able to mock the DataContext and somehow trace both methods of deferring (IQueryable<T>'s SQL and the delegates) the loading so that i can have tests that prove that both functions are working at different levels/layers of the app/stack. As it's crucial that the deferring works for the design to be of any value, i'd like to see tests fail when i break the design at a given level (separate from the live implementation). Is this possible?

So, I changed the precondition clause to: preCondition="integratedMode,runtimeVersionv2.0,bitness64" Now I get this instead: 500 - Internal server error. There is a problem with the resource you are looking for, and it cannot be displayed. Any ideas of what I should be doing, where I should be looking? TIA

• asp.net mvc script and style references

  I'm trying to include script and style references that will not break on deployment, however I can not even get the references to work locally. I have tried using Url.Content() and MVCContrib's <%=Html.ScriptInclude("")%>. My scripts are in a Scripts folder on the root of the site; my styles are in the usual Content/css/ folder. The scripts render like this: <script type="text/javascript" src="/Scripts/MicrosoftAjax.debug.js" ></script> This will not work in a view page in the Views folder. What am I doing wrong and what is the best way to handle this? I would have thought Url.Content() would at least work for styles but used in my master page, the link rendered <link href="/Content/css/Site.css rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" /> This does not work, because the Master Page is in a Shared folder, so what is really the way forward with this?

• jQuery: Giving each matched element an unique ID

  I am writing an 'inline translator' application to be used with a cloud computing platform to extend non-supported languages. The majority of this uses jQuery to find the text value, replace it with the translation, then append the element with a span tag that has an unique ID, to be used elsewhere within the application. The problem arises however, when there are more than one element, say , that have the exact same value to be translated (matched elements). What happens in the function in question is that it puts all matched elements in the same span, taking the second, third, fourth, etc. out of their parent tags. • How can I change my code in Excel 2003 to allow me to paste to multiple cells?

  Ran in to a little problem. If I try to paste to multiple cells that are in the range in the code below, I get a run time error 13, type mismatch. The cells in the range may have data other than X but I only want the hyperlink to appear if the cell contains X. It works fine if I just type an X in the cell or if I paste to one cell at a time. I will have times when I want to paste other text to mutiple cells in this range. Thanks to Remnant for his help on the original code. This one last hurdle will put me in the clear. Thx.
