  • Running matlab in the background

    - by msandbot
Hi, I am running matlab on 48 virtual machines and would like to automate it. I ssh into the machines then use matlab -r matlab_command > outfile.txt & to get the process to run in the background and run fine when I logout. The only problem is that when i jobs my process is stopped and won't start until I fg ^z bg. Is there a matlab flag so that I can run it in the background without having it stop? Thanks, Mike

  • Multi-argument decorators in 2.6

    - by wheaties
Generally don't do OO-programming in Python. This project requires it and am running into a bit of trouble. Here's my scratch code for attempting to figure out where it went wrong: class trial(object): def output( func, x ): def ya( self, y ): return func( self, x ) + y return ya def f1( func ): return output( func, 1 ) @f1 def sum1( self, x ): return x which doesn't compile. I've attempted to add the @staticmethod tag to the "output" and "f1" functions but to no avail. Normally I'd do this def output( func, x ): def ya( y ): return func( x ) + y return ya def f1( func ): return output( func, 1 ) @f1 def sum1( x ): return x which does work. So how do I get this going in a class?

  • Switching Javascript Function states

    - by webzide
Dear experts, I would like to implement a API of Javascript that sort of resemble a light switch. For instance, there are two buttons on the actual HTML page act as the UI. Both of the buttons have event handlers that invokes a different function. Each function have codes that act like a state, for instance. button1.onclick=function (){ $("div").click( //code effects 2 ) } button2.onclick=function (){ $("div").click( //Code effects 2 ) } I the code works fine on the surface but the 2 state functions overlap. the effects is going to take place for the rest of the way until the next reload of the document. Basically what I want to achieve is that when 1 button is clicked, it will switch "OFF" the state of function invoked by the other button and vice versa. Thus, the effects achieved are unique are not overlapped. Is there anyway to achieve this or could any experts point me to the right direction. Thanks in advance.

  • Template type deduction with a non-copyable class

    - by Evan Teran
Suppose I have an autolocker class which looks something like this: template <T> class autolocker { public: autolocker(T *l) : lock(l) { lock->lock(); } ~autolocker() { lock->unlock(); } private: autolocker(const autolocker&); autolocker& operator=(const autolocker&); private: T *lock; } Obviously the goal is to be able to use this autolocker with anything that has a lock/unlock method without resorting to virtual functions. Currently, it's simple enough to use like this: autolocker<some_lock_t> lock(&my_lock); // my_lock is of type "some_lock_t" but it is illegal to do: autolocker lock(&my_lock); // this would be ideal Is there anyway to get template type deduction to play nice with this (keep in my autolocker is non-copyable). Or is it just easiest to just specify the type?

  • How would you parse the location text from Twitter to get the latitude/longitude in Objective-C?

    - by Brennan
The location text from Twitter could be just about anything. Sometimes Twitter clients set the location with the user's latitude and longitude in the following format. "\U00dcT: 43.05948,-87.908409" Since there is no built-in support for Regular Expressions in Objective-C I am considering using the NSString functions like rangeOfString to pull the float values out of this string. For my current purpose I know the values with start with 43 and 87 so I can key off those values this time but I would prefer to do better than that. What would you do to parse the latitude/longitude from this string?

  • How to create a string array in matlab?

    - by aduric
I would like to pass a vector of strings from C++ to matlab. I have tried using the functions available such as mxCreateCharMatrixFromStrings but it doesn't give me the correct behavior. So, I have something like this: void mexFunction( int nlhs, mxArray *plhs[], int nrhs, const mxArray *prhs[]) { vector<string> stringVector; stringVector.push_back("string 1"); stringVector.push_back("string 2"); //etc... The problem is how do I get this vector to the matlab environment? plhs[0] = ??? My goal is to be able to run: >> [strings] = MyFunc(...) >> strings(1) = 'string 1'

  • Detect when mouse leaves my app

    - by user593747
    Hello I am creating an app in win32 that will display the x, y position(In screen coords) of the mouse whereever the mouse is (inside my app client/NC area & outside). I am at the stage where I want to detect when the mouse leaves my application completely. I have written a simple win32 app that should detect & notify myself when the mouse leaves my app, BUT its not working, I never receive the messages WM_MOUSELEAVE & WM_NCMOUSELEAVE. What do you think is wrong? Am I using the wrong win32 functions? // Track Mouse.cpp : Defines the entry point for the application. // #include "stdafx.h" #include <windows.h> #include <vector> #include <string> #include <cstdlib> static HINSTANCE gInstance; // Globals // enum MouseStatus { DEFAULT = 50001, LEFT_CLIENT, LEFT_NCLIENT }; static MouseStatus mouseState = DEFAULT; static COLORREF bkCol = RGB(0,255,255); // Functions List // BOOL TrackMouse( HWND hwnd ) { // Post: TRACKMOUSEEVENT mouseEvt; ZeroMemory( &mouseEvt, sizeof(TRACKMOUSEEVENT) ); mouseEvt.cbSize = sizeof(TRACKMOUSEEVENT); mouseEvt.dwFlags = TME_LEAVE | TME_NONCLIENT; //mouseEvt.dwHoverTime = HOVER_DEFAULT; mouseEvt.hwndTrack = hwnd; return TrackMouseEvent( &mouseEvt ); } LRESULT CALLBACK WndProc(HWND hwnd, UINT msg, WPARAM wParam, LPARAM lParam) { switch(msg) { case WM_CREATE: { // Track mouse so I can be notified when it leaves my application (Client & NC areas) BOOL trackSuccess = TrackMouse( hwnd ); // Returns successful, so I correctly track the mouse if ( trackSuccess == 0 ) { MessageBoxW( hwnd, L"Failed to track mouse", L"Error", MB_OK|MB_ICONEXCLAMATION ); } else MessageBoxW( hwnd, L"Tracking mouse", L"Success", MB_OK|MB_ICONEXCLAMATION ); } break; case WM_MOUSELEAVE: { // I never receive this message // Detect when the mouse leaves the client area mouseState = LEFT_CLIENT; bkCol = RGB(50,50,50); InvalidateRect( hwnd, NULL, true ); } break; case WM_NCMOUSELEAVE : { // I never receive this message // If the mouse has left the client area & then leaves the NC area then I know // that the mouse has left my app if ( mouseState == LEFT_CLIENT ) { mouseState = LEFT_NCLIENT; BOOL trackSuccess = TrackMouse( hwnd ); if ( trackSuccess == 0 ) { bkCol = RGB(255,255,0); MessageBoxW( hwnd, L"On WM_NCMOUSELEAVE: Failed to track mouse", L"Error", MB_OK|MB_ICONEXCLAMATION ); } else MessageBoxW( hwnd, L"On WM_NCMOUSELEAVE: Tracking mouse", L"Success", MB_OK|MB_ICONEXCLAMATION ); InvalidateRect( hwnd, NULL, true ); } } break; case WM_ACTIVATE: case WM_MOUSEHOVER: { // The mouse is back in my app mouseState = DEFAULT; bkCol = RGB(0,255,255); InvalidateRect( hwnd, NULL, true ); } break; case WM_PAINT: { HDC hdc; PAINTSTRUCT ps; hdc = BeginPaint( hwnd, &ps ); SetBkColor( hdc, bkCol ); Rectangle( hdc, 10, 10, 200, 200 ); EndPaint( hwnd, &ps ); } break; case WM_CLOSE: DestroyWindow(hwnd); break; case WM_DESTROY: PostQuitMessage(0); break; default: break; } return DefWindowProc(hwnd, msg, wParam, lParam); } int WINAPI WinMain(HINSTANCE gInstance, HINSTANCE hPrevInstance, LPSTR lpCmdLine, int nCmdShow) { WNDCLASSEX wc; HWND hwnd; MSG Msg; wc.cbSize = sizeof(WNDCLASSEX); wc.style = 0; wc.lpfnWndProc = WndProc; wc.cbClsExtra = 0; wc.cbWndExtra = 0; wc.hInstance = gInstance; wc.hIcon = LoadIcon(NULL, IDI_APPLICATION); wc.hCursor = LoadCursor(NULL, IDC_ARROW); wc.hbrBackground = (HBRUSH)(DKGRAY_BRUSH); wc.lpszMenuName = NULL; wc.lpszClassName = L"Custom Class"; wc.hIconSm = LoadIcon(NULL, IDI_APPLICATION); // if registration of main class fails if(!RegisterClassEx(&wc)) { MessageBoxW(NULL, L"Window Registration Failed!", L"Error!", MB_ICONEXCLAMATION | MB_OK); return 0; } hwnd = CreateWindowEx( WS_EX_CLIENTEDGE, L"Custom Class", L"App Name", WS_CAPTION|WS_MINIMIZEBOX|WS_VISIBLE|WS_OVERLAPPED|WS_SYSMENU, CW_USEDEFAULT, CW_USEDEFAULT, 600, 500, NULL, NULL, gInstance, NULL); if(hwnd == NULL) { MessageBoxW(NULL, L"Window Creation Failed!", L"Error!", MB_ICONEXCLAMATION | MB_OK); return 0; } ShowWindow(hwnd, nCmdShow); UpdateWindow(hwnd); while(GetMessage(&Msg, NULL, 0, 0) > 0) { TranslateMessage(&Msg); DispatchMessage(&Msg); } return Msg.wParam; }

  • How can I utilize or mimic Application OnStart in an HttpModule?

    - by Sailing Judo
We are trying to remove the global.asax from our many web applications in favor of HttpModules that are in a common code base. This works really well for many application events such as BeginRequest and PostAuthentication, but there is no Application Start event exposed in the HttpModule. I can think of a couple of smelly ways to overcome this deficit. For example, I can probably do this: protected virtual void BeginRequest(object sender, EventArgs e) { Log.Debug("Entered BeginRequest..."); var app = HttpContext.Current.Application; var hasBeenSet app["HasBeenExecuted"] == null ? false : true; if(!hasBeenSet) { app.Lock(); // ... do app level code app.Add("HasBeenSet", true); app.Unlock(); } // do regular begin request stuff ... } But this just doesn't smell well to me. What is the best way to invoke some application begin logic without having a global.asax?

  • AbsoluteTime with numeric argument behaves strangely.

    - by dreeves
This is strange: DateList@AbsoluteTime[596523] returns {2078, 7, 2, 2, 42, 9.7849} But DateList@AbsoluteTime[596524] returns {1942, 5, 26, 20, 28, 39.5596} The question: What's going on? Note that AbsoluteTime with a numeric argument is undocumented. (I think I now know what it's doing but figured this is useful to have as a StackOverflow question for future reference; and I'm curious if there's some reason for that magic 596523 number.) PS: I encountered this when writing these utility functions for converting to and from unix time in Mathematica: (* Using Unix time (an integer) instead of Mathematica's AbsoluteTime... *) tm[x___] := AbsoluteTime[x] (* tm is an alias for AbsoluteTime. *) uepoch = tm[{1970}, TimeZone->0]; (* unixtm works analogously to tm. *) unixtm[x___] := Round[tm[x]-uepoch] (* tm & unixtm convert between unix & *) unixtm[x_?NumericQ] := Round[x-uepoch] (* mma epoch time when given numeric *) tm[t_?NumericQ] := t+uepoch (* args. Ie, they're inverses. *)

  • Jquery Retrieving data from webpage and entering it in database.

    - by user279321
Hello Everyone. I am new to Jquery. I want to read specific data(some div's only) from a webpage and store it in my database. Now I am not able to do so as load functions loads the data into the current page id. My goal is to read specific data and store them in database. So which Jquery function should I use for this? if someone can throw some light on it, it would be really helpful for me. I am using JSP,MySQL,Java.

  • map view inside table view cell

    - by kudorgyozo
Hello, i have another (probably unanswered) question about map views. I have a map view inside a table view cell and i want to disable the table view scrolling if the scrolling begins in the map view. Also the zooming gesture does not function normally. It only functions if the zooming gesture is done horizontally on the iphone display. The same thing happens with swiping gestures. It only affects the map if i swipe the map area horizontally. If i swipe vertically the table view scrolls instead, and i want to disable that. Any ides how to do it?

  • regex pattern to match only strings that don't contain spaces PHP

    - by Jamex
Hi, I want to match the word/pattern that is contained in the variable, but only match against the words that don't have white spaces. Please give suggestions. $var = 'look'; $array = ('look', 'greatlook', 'lookgreat', 'look great', 'badlook', 'look bad', 'look ', ' look'); matches words: look, greatlook, lookgreat, badlook non matches: look great, bad look, look (trailing space(s)), (space(s)) look. The syntax of the below functions are OK, but it matches everything $match = preg_grep ("/$var/", $array); $match = preg_grep ("/^$var/", $array); (match words with 'look' at the start) but when I include the [^\s], it gives an error $match = preg_grep ("/$var[^\s]/", $array); Parse error: syntax error, unexpected '^', expecting T_STRING or T_VARIABLE TIA

  • Maintaining the query string in ASP.Net MVC

    - by Mantorok
Hi all Just beginning my journey in ASP.Net MVC and I have a query about something before I dig myself in too deep. I have a table, which is paged, and I have 2 controls above the table: Dropdown that defines order of the results and apply button next to it Textbox that defines a filter and apply button next to it What I need to achieve is that if the user changes the order or adds a filter I fire of an AJAX call to my action like such: /Membership/Users?sort=value&filter=value&page=pagenumber. So my controller action is: // GET Membership/Users?sort=&filter=&page= public ActionResult Users(string sort, string filter, string page) So I have 3 questions: Is this the correct approach? What would be the best way to ensure that the query string is maintained, bearing in mind that the action will nearly always be called by Jquery/Ajax functions? If I wanted to link directly to this action passing the arguments would I need to hard-code the querystring? Thanks

  • Suggestion for R/LaTeX table creation package

    - by aL3xa
I've been using xtable package for a long time, and looking forward to writting my first package in R... so I reckon that if I have some "cool" idea that's worth carying out, there's a great chance that somebody got there before me... =) I'm interested in functions/packages specialized for LaTeX table creation (through R, of course). I bumped on quantreg package which has latex.table function. Any suggestion for similar function(s)/package(s)? P.S. I'm thinking about building a webapp in which users can define their own presets/templates of tables, choose style, statistics, etc. It's an early thought, though... =)

  • Where is BuildConfig.DEBUG?

    - by Ollie C
My project doesn't seem to be aware of this new constant that's apparently auto-generated in Android Tools r17 builds: "Added a feature that allows you to run some code only in debug mode. Builds now generate a class called BuildConfig containing a DEBUG constant that is automatically set according to your build type. You can check the (BuildConfig.DEBUG) constant in your code to run debug-only functions such as outputting debug logs." I've confirmed that this class is not being auto-generated anywhere in my project by the new tools. I deleted all project outputs (including all gen folders) and rebuilt, and only R.java classes are being generated. Why are the tools not generating the BuildConfig class? It may be relevant that I'm using IntelliJ.

  • Running Python code from Java program, shoudl i be doing this?

    - by Space Rocker
i have a scenario where i draw a network and set all it's paraments on swing based gui, after that i have to translate this network into a python based script which another framework reads and realize this network in the form of virtual machines. As an example have look here: from mininet.topo import Topo, Node class MyTopo( Topo ): def *__init__*( self, enable_all = True ): super( MyTopo, self ).__init__() Host = 1 Switch = 2 self.add_node( Switch, Node( is_switch=True ) ) self.add_node( Host, Node( is_switch=False ) ) self.add_edge( Host, Switch ) self.enable_all() topos = { 'mytopo': ( lambda: MyTopo() ) } It simply connects a host to a switch and realize this topology on mininet framework. Now for now in order to realize the drawn network on java GUI here is what i am doing: I simply take the information from GUI and creates a new python file like the one above using java code and then run this file in mininet, which works fine somehow. I want to know, is this the correct and robust way how i am doing this or should i be looking further into java-python bridge like scenarios to be more effective or so as to say more professional.

  • A good approach to db planing for reporting service

    - by Itay Moav
The scenario: Big system (~200 tables). 60,000 users. Complex reports that will require me to do multiple queries for each report and even those will be complex queries with inner queries all over the place + some processing in PHP. I have seen an approach, which I am not sure about: Having one centralized, de-normalized, table that registers any activity in the system which is reportable. This table will hold mostly foreign keys, so she should be fairly compact and fast. So, for example (My system is a virtual learning management system), A user enrolls to course, the table stores the user id, date, course id, organization id, activity type (enrollment). Of course I also store this data in a normalized DB, which the actual application uses. Pros I see: easy, maintainable queries and code to process data and fast retrieval. Cons: there is a danger of the de-normalized table to be out of sync with the real DB. Is this approach worth considering, or (preferably from experience) is total $#%#%t?

  • Generating random numbers in C

    - by moonstruckhorrors
While searching for Tutorials on generating random numbers in C I found This Topic When I try to use the rand() function with parameters, I always get the random number generated 0. When I try to use the rand() function with parameters, I always get the value 41. And whenever I try to use arc4random() and random() functions, I get a LNK2019 error. Here's what I'm doing: #include <stdlib.h> int main() { int x; x = rand(6); printf("%d", x); } This code always generate 41. Where am I going wrong?? P.S. : I'm running Windows XP SP3 and using VS2010 Command Prompt as compiler. P.P.S. : Took me 15 minutes to learn how to format properly.

  • use callback function to report stack backtrace

    - by user353394
Assume I have the following: typedef struct { char *name; char binding; int address; } Fn_Symbol //definition of function symbol static Fn_Symbol *fnSymbols; //array of function symbols in a file statc int total; //number of symbol functions in the array and file static void PrintBacktrace(int sigum, siginfo_t * siginfo, void *context) { printf("\nSignal received %d (%s)\n", signum, strsignal(signum)); const int eip_index = 14; void *eip = (void *)((struct ucontext *)context)->uc_mcontext.gregs[eip_index]; printf("Error at [%p] %s (+0x%x), eip, fnName, offset from start); //????? exit(0); } I have this so far, but what is the best way using the fnSymbols static global pointer to identify the function where the error occured and then back trace through the stack to identify each calling function by address, name, and offset?

  • Type patterns in Haskell

    - by finnsson
I'm trying to compile a simple example of generic classes / type patterns (see http://www.haskell.org/ghc/docs/latest/html/users_guide/generic-classes.html) in Haskell but it won't compile. Any ideas about what's wrong with the code would be helpful. According to the documentation there should be a module Generics with the data types Unit, :*:, and :+: but ghc (6.12.1) complaints about Not in scope: data constructor 'Unit' etc. It seems like there's a package instant-generics with the data types :*:, :+: and U but when I import that module (instead of Generics) I get the error Illegal type pattern in the generic bindings {myPrint _ = ""} The complete source code is import Generics.Instant class MyPrint a where myPrint :: a -> String myPrint {| U |} _ = "" myPrint {| a :*: b |} (x :*: y) = "" (show x) ++ ":*:" ++ (show y) myPrint {| a :+: b |} _ = "" data Foo = Foo String instance MyPrint a => MyPrint a main = myPrint $ Foo "hi" and I compile it using ghc --make Foo.hs -fglasgow-exts -XGenerics -XUndecidableInstances P.S. The module Generics export no data types, only the functions: canDoGenerics mkGenericRhs mkTyConGenericBinds validGenericInstanceType validGenericMethodType

  • Setting the Cursor Position in a Win32 Console Application

    - by Jim Fell
How can I set the cursor position in a Win32 Console application? Preferably, I would like to avoid making a handle and using the Windows Console Functions. (I spent all morning running down that dark alley; it creates more problems than it solves.) I seem to recall doing this relatively simply when I was in college using stdio, but I can't find any examples of how to do it now. Any thoughts or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

  • Functional languages & support for memoization

    - by Joel
Do any of the current crop of popular functional languages have good support for memoization & if I was to pick one on the strength of its memoisation which would you recommend & why? Update: I'm looking to optimise a directed graph (where nodes could be functions or data). When a node in the graph is updated I would like the values of other nodes to be recalculated only if they depend the node that changed. Update2: require free or open-source language/runtime.

  • Is it bad practice to use python's getattr extensively?

    - by Wilduck
I'm creating a shell-like environment. My original method of handleing user input was to use a dictionary mapping commands (strings) to methods of various classes, making use of the fact that functions are first class objects in python. For flexibility's sake (mostly for parsing commands), I'm thinking of changing my setup such that I'm using getattr(command), to grab the method I need and then passing arguments to it at the end of my parser. Another advantage of this approach is not having to update my (currently statically implemented) command dictionary every time I add a new method/command. My question is, will I be taking a hit to the efficiency of my shell? Does it matter how many methods/commands I have? I'm currently looking at 30 some commands, which could eventually double.

  • Dealing with passwords securely

    - by Krt_Malta
Hi I have a Java web service and a Java web client making use of this service. One of the functions is to create a new user account. My two concerns are: How will I send the user's password securely from the client. How will I store the user's password securely on the server. How can I achieve these? I know the theory basically behind security, security algorithms etc but can anyone give me some advice on how I should go about in coding? Could anyone point me to some good (and if possible not complicated) examples to follow since I found some examples on the Internet very contorted? Thanks a lot and regards, Krt_Malta

  • Running GUI application in the Windows service mode

    - by Leonid
I'm writing a server running as a Windows service that by request invokes Firefox to generate a pdf snapshot of a webpage. I know it is a bad idea to run a GUI program in service mode, but the server nature of my program restricts from running it in the user mode. Running a user-level 'proxy' also is not an option, since there might be no interactive user logged-in on the machine with the server running. In my experiments Firefox successfully produced pdf when the service was running under a user account that was already logged-in. Obviously it didn't work in other cases: for Local System and user accounts that weren't logged-in. Under LocalSystem with 'Allow service to interact with desktop' option enabled I could see the Firefox started that reports that it's unable to find a printer. Since it wouldn't be practical to require an opened user session for the pdf server to run, is there any workaround for this except running the whole thing from a virtual machine?
