• Alt attribute encoding with JavaScript

  Hi, Html entities must be encoded in alt attribute of an image in HTML page. So <img id="formula" alt="A &rarr; B" src="formula.png" /> will work well. On the other hand, the same JavaScript code will not work document.getElementById('formula').alt = 'A &rarr; B'; and will produce A &rarr; B instead of A → B. How to do it through JavaScript, when it is not possible to put the special (unencoded) characters in the source code?

  Here's the sample code: var d = new Date("2010-06-09T19:20:30+01:00"); document.write(d); On FF3.6 this will give you: Wed Jun 09 2010 14:20:30 GMT-0400 (EST) Other browers tested; Chrome 5, Safari 4, IE7 give: Invalid Date I know there is limited to no support for ISO8601 dates, but does anyone know what and/or where the difference is in FF3.6 that allows this to work? My thought is that FF is just stripping out what it doesn't understand while the others are not. Has anyone else seen this and/or getting different results from the test script?

• How to resize pdf graphics produced in R using Illustrator

  I am making plots in R using the pdf() command. Graphs look perfect and resize nicely in Acrobat Reader. My usual workflow includes manipulating labels etc. in Illustrator, saving as .eps for submission to publishers or inserting in Word. All works fine for single graphs. Now I am trying to combine 4 graphs into one by manually putting them together in an A4 Illustrator document. However, when I resize the standard 7x7 inches pdf graph in Illustrator to fit in one column of an A4 page (ca 3.4 inches wide), all proportions get screwed up, e.g. lines and symbols outlines become way too thick. Using pdf(..., width=3.4, height=3.4) in R messes up all the symbol and font sizes so carefully chosen to produce the original graph. Why can't I resize the graph within Illustrator the same way I can resize the pdf e.g. in Acrobat Reader?

  Hi, I need to take data from external file and format it, the problem is, i want to have that data stored into a variable. Load method works for me, because i need to load not the whole document, but just a part of it, but then again, i want to load to variable and not to some dom element. $.get can do this, but it doesn't support selectors. Is there any way I could make this? Now examples: Mine external file consists of a table, which has format like this: <table><tr><td><img /></td></tr><tr><td><a></a></td><td><span></span></td></tr></table> I need to extract img, a and span tags because I need them to be displayed in different order than they're now. Now I have to write it as: let rec sublist list i j = if i j then [] else (List.nth list i) :: (sublist list (i+1) j) which is quite concise but I'm questioning the efficiency of List.nth, because if it's O(n), I would rather have to write it in a less concise way. I'm wondering why didn't they provide List.sublist func, if List.nth is not O(1), because it's such a quite common operation..

  What I would really like is a streaming API that works sort of like StAX, and sort of like DOM/JDom. It would be streaming in the sense that it would be very lazy and not read things in until needed. It would also be streaming in the sense that it would read everything forwards (but not backwards).   Hey all. I am adding text to a textArea via Javascript in Chrome (doing it a totally different way in Firefox/IE as Chrome does not support contentWindows).   Update: Issue Resolved A colleague of mine was changing a cell during Workbook_BeforeSave() without disabling events, therefore triggering Worksheet_Change(). Yes, silly, but at least it's our fault, not Excel's I've noticed that whenever I hit Ctrl+S in Excel, the Worksheet_Change() is fired before Workbook_BeforeSave(). Is it possible to supress this behaviour using VBA code, but without supressing all events (i.e. without Application.EnableEvents = false)? This happens regardless of what I'm doing. I've read about someone having a similar issue with ComboBoxes, but I'm not editing ComboBoxes, yet Worksheet_Change() fires always before saving. Any ideas? I'm only trying to figure out how to bypass some code inside Worksheet_Change() when the document is saved, because that code is only supposed to be executed when the user actually changes something, not when the workbook is saved. Saving is by no means changing...

  I have an ID that I need in the next jsp once the user click a button. This code takes me to my second page, but if I tried to access the id, it gives me an error since the id is null.
