  After test driving Google Chrome for 30 minutes or so, I like it, even if it seems bare-bones at the moment. The obvious way to add a few things I can't live without would be through plugins.   When there are two identical events in the event loop, will wxPython handle both of them, or will it call the handler only once for them both? I mean, in my widget I want to have an event like EVT_NEED_TO_RECALCULATE_X. I want this event to be posted in all kinds of different circumstances that require x to be recalculated. However, even if there are two different reasons to recalculate x, only one recalculation needs to be done. How do I do this?

• the '.htaccess' file won't work on my apache server

  Hi, I have an Apache server installed on my windows machine using XAMPP. Now I'm trying to use a premade .htaccess file for one of my projects, but it doesn't seem to be seeing it. The project just totally ignores it, even though I've enabled mod_rewrite. Any idea how I can troubleshoot this? I can't fix it if it just doesn't work and doesn't show me any errors. Appreciate your help.

  I've encountered a situation where it would be very helpful to know the breakdown of shell use by percentage. For example, I'm looking for something like bash: X%, sh: Y%, csh, tcsh, zsh, ksh, dash, etc.. Obviously, I know there are several complications - multiple shells, the definition of "use", uncertainty and so forth, but I would like to see an informed answer derived from actual data and based on some stated metric, even if the result could be horribly wrong. Bonus if there is historical data demonstrating a shift in preferences.

  I looked into Logix and EasyExtend for Python. Logix hasn't been around for a while and it failed to install on Python 2.6. EasyExtend's tutorial is hopeless, the code in the tutorial doesn't even work. I am looking for something so I can write my DSL. My DSL will be used as a research tool. And I don't want to spend time learning all that parsing and compiler theory.

• Mac OS X: getting file system changes of the last minute?

  From older times (Mac OS 10.4) I had found this command line on the web somewhere: mdfind '(kMDItemFSContentChangeDate >= $time.now(-60)) && (kMDItemFSContentChangeDate <= $time.now)' it gave me a list of files that where changed in the last minute. This does not work anymore on Mac OS 10.6. Can anybody explain why this doesn't work? And even suggest a working command line?

  While reading a file I get broken UTF-8 String error whenever I have the following in my file través if I change it to normal e then it works. Whats the way to fix this? error only happens if I do line.lstrp or any other function. Just printing the lines is ok. problem even happens when I try to match the string with regex.

  I find that I now often work with code bases that have different amounts of indentation. Some use 2 spaces, some use 4 space, some even use tabs! Once in a while, I have to share code between these codebases, or, sometimes I use an incorrect amount of indentation by mistake. When I look at it from sqlplus I see: 00-DECEMB when I use the dump function on this column, I Get: Typ=12 Len=7: 100,100,0,0,1,1,1 I need to work with the existing data from .Net (no changes to the data,or the data structure or even existing sql statements) How the hack do I read this value, or write it.   i used zend_tool to setup a project then to create module blog with index controller etc but i guess the default config setup by zend_tool does not work with modules so i edited it resources.frontController.moduleDirectory = APPLICATION_PATH "/modules" resources.frontController.moduleDirectoryControllerName = "controllers" i guess these are required for modules? also i moved the folders, controllers, models, views into the modules/ folder but i get a blank screen when i try to go to http://servername which shld load Default module's index controller and action. even if i try to go http://servername/nonexistentpage it also shows a blank screen instead of a 404

• When is better to use a parser such as ANTLR vs. writing your own parsing code?
