  • Help regarding no sql databases like hadoop, hbase etc

    I am new to the distributed NoSQL databases like Hadoop, Cassandra, etc. I have few questions for which I seek an expert advice: Can you list problems/challenges one will generally face when making a shift from the present conventional database like MySQL to these large cluster-based databases? What are the difficulties, if any, when one needs to adapt to a newer version of these open source projects? Can you list out the things which are generally stored/kept in memcached for fast rendering of the page? How can I understand the source code of open-source projects so that I can build on it and maybe give back to the community? Above questions may sound to be idiotic and basic but please it's a request for the experts to answer the above questions in detailed and to best of their abilities.

    Hi Everyone, At my site - jasondaydesign.com. I'm using easylistsplitter.js. I designed it this way, because I actually wanted a masonry.js style layout but I couldn't find a way to filter divs. So I made the switch to lists, and found a plugin that allowed me to have a masonry style layout. Unfortunately, I have tried several list filters including: filterprojects.js and a netuts tutorial on a filterable portfolio. Unfortunately, both work, but only on the first column. I can't seem to figure out a way to have a filter plugin work on all list items that have been split by easylistsplitter.js Thoughts?

Luckily when the domain layer was built, we used a code generator. The main issue that I am running into now is that every collection is hidden behind a custom class that derives from List<.   • InfoPath Getting SharePoint Group Information

    I have an InfoPath form embedded in an aspx page on a SharePoint site. How do I bind the SharePoint user groups to a drop-down list on my form? What I've tried so far is to create a data connection to a web service (method GetGroupCollectionFromWeb) to pull the data. Next, I open the list box properties, select "Look up values from an external data source", select the data source, assign the entries, and I get the following error: "You must select a repeating group or field." What I don't understand is that since the method I am calling is called GetGroupCollectionFromWeb, isn't the return value a collection? And aren't collections repeating by definition? What am I missing, and is there a workaround? Thank you.

  • Simplest way to create a wrapper class around some strings for a WPF DataGrid?

    I'm building a simple hex editor in C#, and I've decided to use each cell in a DataGrid to display a byte*. I know that DataGrid will take a list and display each object in the list as a row, and each of that object's properties as columns. I want to display rows of 16 bytes each, which will require a wrapper with 16 string properties. While doable, it's not the most elegant solution. Is there an easier way? I've already tried creating a wrapper around a public string array of size 16, but that doesn't seem to work. Thanks *The rational for this is that I can have spaces between each byte without having to strip them all out when I want to save my edited file. Also it seems like it'll be easier to label the rows and columns.

  • jQuery Tiny Scrollbar plugin - Fails to show all content on refresh

    Hi Guys! I've implemented Tiny Scrollbar plugin on a website, for good-looking div scrolling. But weird stuff happens when I refresh the page in Safari or Chrome. It seams to clip some of my content. What happens upon a page refresh, that could make it behave like this? Please have a look at mettestentoft.dk I've tried using the same plugin on a simple test page, where a page refresh would make the plugin add a 'scrollbar disable' class to the div, while clicking a link linking to the same page, would make i show as it should. Tiny Scrollbar plugin demopage doesn't seem to have any problems, unless I'm missing it. So my question is: Do I have to do something jQuery-wise, in order for a page to load equally to a linked page? Thank you in advance :)

    hello, Im following a few tutorials to sort a list, but i can't get the DB to update. The drag drop side of things is working, also, i javascript alert() the serialize list onUpdate and the order is printed out as follows: images_list[]=20&images_list[]=19 etc...     Hello, In my app, i've created the TList type list where i store the pointers to 1 string and 2 float(real) values for every 3 items. aList.Add(@sName); //string aList.Add(@x1); //float aList.Add(@x2); //float Then, i want to get the values out from the list, but i could only do that for string sStr := string(lList.items[i]); But i couldn't get the float values as a := real(lList...) will result in an invalid typecast error. So what do i do to get the float values? Of course i have a question if that string casting will actually give me the string value. I'm not good at pointer stuff so i don't know how to do it.

  • ASP NET forms Authorization: how to reduce duration?

    I've got a web page which is implementing cookie based ASPNET Forms Authentication. Once the user has logged in the page, he can edit some information using a form which is created using a partialview and returned to him as a dialog for editing. The action linked to the partial view is decorated as follows: [HttpGet] [OutputCache(Duration = 0, VaryByParam = "None")] [Authorize(Roles = "test")] public ActionResult changeTripInfo(int tripID, bool ovride=false) { ... } The problem i am experiencing is the latency between the request and the time when the dialog is shown to the user: time ranges between 800 and 1100 ms which is not justified by the complexity of the form. Investigating with Glimpse turns out that the time to process the AuthorizeAttribute (see snip) sums up to at least 650 ms which is troubling me. Looking at the Sql server log, the call which checks the user roles takes, as expected, virtually nothing (duration 0). How can I reduce this time? Am I missing some optimization?

As well as ensuring all the operations made on the phone end up in the cloud, I need to make sure the app is really responsive and the user doesn’t feel any lag time whatsoever. What’s the best design to use here? Each check box change, each text box edit fires a new thread to contact the web service? Locally store a list of things that need to be updated then send to the server in batch every so often (what about the back button)? Am I missing another even easier implementation?     Our problem/question revolves around an upload control that loses the selected file (goes blank) when a postback control is used (in this case, the dropdown list posts). HOWEVER, if the user selects a file first, and then selects a category, the screen will do a partial refresh and the selected file will disappear (field goes blank). As a result, the user needs to select the file again. This causes an issue because the fact that the file is no longer selected can easily be overlooked. Seems straighforward --- but causing us a lot of grief. Any experts out there that can help? BIG thanks!

  • Missing something with Entity Framework for .NET 3.5?

    Is it not possible to have EF create the necessary entities when I have two related tables linked with a FK in .NET3.5SP1? I see where the checkbox to support this is disabled but it is available in .NET4. I've got a DB that has only tables with relationships in it. I need to build a Silverlight app (SL4) that allows management of the data within this app. I can't use .NET4 on the server... only .NET3.5SP1 so FK relationship bit in EF4 isn't available to me. Looking to avoid building as much of the plumbing to get back to the DB from the SL4 app as possible...

    I am a system admin in a lab, I have ~90 computers in the lab and I want to check the load factor on them.. meaning, to check how many people are working on the computers hourly.. To see if I need to buy more computers or not. I am looking for a way to build a script to check if a computer is logged on or not.. (0 for log off - 1 for log on) After I will have this data, I know how to build a script to build me the graphs.     I have a customer product page that literally lives beside the catalog/product/view.phtml page. It's basically identical to that page with a few small exceptions. It's basically a 'product of the day' type page so I can't combine it with the regular product page since I have to fetch the data from the DB and perform a load to get the product information $_product = Mage::getModel('catalog/product')->load($row['productid']); To make a long story short, everything works (including all children html blocks) with the singular exception of the related products. After the load I save the product into the registry with Mage::register('product', $_product); and then attempt to load the related products with: echo $this->getLayout()->createBlock('catalog/product_view')->setTemplate('catalog/product/list/related.phtml')->toHtml();` All of which give back the error: Fatal error: Call to a member function getSize() on a non-object in catalog/product/list/related.phtml on line 29`, and line 29 is <?php if($this->getItems()->getSize()): ?>`. Any help getting the relateds to load would be appreicated.
