  • How well does Windows 7 MCE support Clear QAM?

    - by Jess Sightler
How well does Windows 7 MCE support ClearQAM (no-cablecard, no HD), and are there any guidelines for which capture cards work best with it? Also, I have an old laptop with a 2 Ghz Pentium M with 1 GB of RAM. I believe that this will be able to handle 1 stream (as it currently does with non-QAM content under XP MCE. Would it also be able to handle 2 streams?

  • Is there a program that can colourize the output of any linux command?

    - by BeeBand
Or would I have to write my own? What's the best language for building a tool of this kind? I'm kind of new to linux, but I'm guessing that you could pass the output of a program to a particular script and have it display it in various colours, based on some regular expressions (constructed from some kind of config file perhaps). Or has it been done already...?

  • How can I clear *old* browsing data from Google Chrome Linux, while keeping more recent data?

    - by Norman Ramsey
I can find plenty of information on how to clear Google Chrome's recent browsing data, in various periods, as well as clearing all browsing data. But I want to clear old browsing data—say for a start, anything over two months old. (I'm trying to save space on a crowded laptop.) Does anyone know any principled way to do this, or shall I just dive into ~/.config/google, start removing likely-looking files, and hope for the best. I run Google Chrome on Debian Linux.

  • Sourcing local .bashrc .vimrc without copy to remote machine

    - by David Strejc
Does anyone have an idea or hack on how to source my local dotfiles (I will probably need more of them so this solution should work with many files) on remote machines without scp them to remote machine? Is something like scp .bashrc to /tmp folder on remote machine and then exporting BASHRC env variable the best solution? I need this because of our company policy and fast cloud servers deployment and redeployment and I don't want to touch .bashrc files on remote machine so my colleges are able to use their default env which doesn't suit me.

  • Open source alternative to Autosys?

    - by oninea
As an alternative to Autosys, what is the best open source job scheduler? This question is a bit subjective but I'm looking for something that is widely used in production environments, has a good community, and has enterprise grade features.

  • How to get the installed Memory Type

    - by balexandre
Windows 7 could be better at this, it tells everything about the computer CPU but only the Memory amount Microsoft should add information about DDR type, speed and maybe CL as well. While this never happens, What's the best and easy way to check the installed memory so we can buy and upgrade it? I was thinking a simple software so I don't need to install the full SiSoft Sandra for example, just looking for something small, only for the memory part.

  • dlink arp spoofing prevention

    - by Wiploo
someone can help me understanding arp spoofing prevention on dlink dgs-3100 (ftp://ftp2.dlink.com/PRODUCTS/DGS-3100-48P/REVA/DGS-3100-48P_MANUAL_3.60_EN.PDF). I'd like to protect my gateway MAC/IP from spoofing so I'have tryed to add a rule "IP: 192.168.1.1 MAC: aa-aa-aa-aa-aa-aa" flagging all the port of the switch as untrusted. When I apply the rule I lose connection to all pc attached to the switch. I certanly made some errors, but I can't understand what is wrong. Best Regards

  • Portion of Screen Broke

    - by Devoted
Hi, A portion of my laptop screen broke. Is there any kind of software that will just ignore that part and resize everything accordingly? It's like 1/6 of the screen on the right that makes anything over there impossible to see. If not, what would be the best programming language to go about making my own program? It is a PC but I can also run Ubuntu if that would be easier to make a program for.

  • How do I teach my linux command line manners?

    - by Sam152
Whenever I complete something in the command line while using Ubuntu and my computer does something of value to me, I enjoy saying thank you, just because it's the polite thing to do. A typical conversation might look something like this: mtp-sendfile HamishAndyPodcast.mp3 /Music/podcasts Sending file... Progress: 17769768 of 17769768 (100%) New file ID: 76098 sam@sams-laptop:~$ thanks thanks: command not found What's the best way to teach my PC a few manners and respond with something like "No problemo".

  • Capture VHS to Mac

    - by Kato
I have a Mac Pro running Leopard and a RCA to USB cable and a VCR. I'm trying to figure out the best way to capture VHS tapes onto my computer using what I have. I cannot seem to find video capturing software for Macs that would do this through USB, especially for cheap or free, or with the ability to capture in MPEG2 format. Does anyone have directions/suggestions?

  • sshfs too slow while remote editing on Eclipse and other IDEs, what options to use to make it faster. *Not* for mac users

    - by Fullmooninu
I've been looking into this problem, and it is common. But since there is a package for Mac with the same name, the solution for Mac users is hiding the solution for Linux users and our default sshfs. This the best I got so far, from what actually works on Linux. sshfs user@host:remoteDir localDir -o Ciphers=arcfour -oauto_cache,reconnect,no_readahead note: this question was not appropriate for stackoverflow, dunno why: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/25365487/sshfs-too-slow-what-options-to-use-to-make-it-faster-not-for-mac-users

  • How to set up project-level permissions for SVN?

    - by ant123
Hi, I have an SVN server running on Ubuntu 9.04. Inside /var/svn, there are various projects - /var/svn/foo, /var/svn/bar, etc. I want to be able to give user "A" full SVN permissions for 'foo', but not 'bar', and vice versa - user "B" could have permissions to 'bar' but not necessarily 'foo'. What is the best way to do this?

  • Windows 2008 Boot DVD

    - by TheDave1022
I am looking to create a custom boot DVD to run my unattended installs of windows 2008. I would like to have a menu system that lets the tech select what version of the OS they would like to install and version (x86/x64). I know you can run the windows 2008 setup, and exit to command prompt, but I would like there to just be a menu that will kick off whichever script needed. What would be the best way to do this? Thanks

  • Solaris WANboot & Jumpstart SPARC/x86

    - by watain
I need to setup a Solaris WANboot and a Solaris jumpstart server for both SPARC and x86 architectures. Can I setup both on a single machine (SPARC or x86) or do I need a separate SPARC and x86 machine to jumpstart a SPARC respectively a x86 client? As far as I know the architecture of a WANboot server doesn't matter, as long as the correct Solaris flash archive is used. Best regards
