The New Relic capture time of the middleware (e.g. java, python, ruby) and request time (See https://newrelic.com/docs/features/tracking-front-end-time). For this, I need to configure the X-Request-Start header as the request pass through the HAProxy load balance. • How to prevent Spell checking code in MS Office?

  We use MS Office. Outlook for emails, Word for some documentation and I use OneNote a lot for my own note taking. What bugs me is when I drop some code or use key words or even camel case into these apps the spell checking picks them up and I have red squiggles everywhere. Ignore is pretty much useless, so either I have to turn off Spell Check altogether start adding these to the custom dictionary. What would be good is if I can use the Set Language function to mark a whole block of text to just not be spell checked. Has anyone found a nice solution to this or do you know of a blank dictionary is best to use? I found using "Mohawk" kind of does that... might just use that for now. Maybe create a macro to switch between them.

• Complete solution to upgrade PostgreSQL on debian production server

  I'm using Debian 6 (Squeeze) in production for a couple of websites. I decided to use postgresql backports so that I could use PostgreSQL 9.0 features. I thought that it would remain 9.0 and receive updates to that major version. Unfortunetly Squueze backports were updated to PostgreSQL 9.1 so probably I won't receive updates to 9.0. I'm planning upgrading to 9.1 but I know that it's not done automatically. I've read about official pg_upgrade and debian's pg_upgradecluster, but I would appreciate complete guide to upgrade. What are steps to do (first apt-get install postgresql, then pg_upgradecluster, then remove old cluster)? List of steps would be nice. What are possible failure scenarios? How to prepare to failures and react on them? I can stop database for a couple of hours only so I want to be prepared

• Windows script to copy some text to the clipboard ?

  I am using an application that requires several attempts to log in (because of overloaded servers). This app has no "remember my password" feature. Therefore, I would like to make a script (preferably a .bat script), that would first copy my password into the clipboard -so that I don't have to retype my password on every log on attempt- , then launch the application (easy part) Is this possible with a MS-DOS command ? Do I need a little exe or another script language ? I'm obviously looking for the quickest solution to implement. Thanks in advance for your ideas

  from what i can gather the mailbox bit of the web interface works fine.. when any of the users go to options (top right) and try to use some of the features such as the Organise Mail Delivery Reports to find messages etc... it comes up with a message .. • Splicing from a weird DVD-format

  I have a DVD full of video clips. I want to exact only some of these clips. I tried to use mplayer/mencoder's nice feature of Edit Decision List (EDL). However, the video timer seems to constantly reset with each video clip (less than 20 seconds) and its EDL does not have a video clip number or anything like that. I've tried using VLC to extract the video into an MPG file, but the same timer problem persists. What's a good way to splice out part of these clips from the DVD? I'm willing to write a small program in any language to make this work.

Any suggestions for actual batch file code?

  I installed the release preview of Windows 8, which comes with Internet Explorer 10. IE10 has been endowed with a spell checking Feature, which is active while I write this text. As a matter of principle, I disable spell checking anywhere I go. I simply hate spell checking. I know better than the spell checker. (And when not it doesn't matter.) This is all the more annoying as I write in several languages and the spell checker only does one language (German, in this case), and then even in the new and wrong spelling, not in the old an true one. How can I disable this?

  We have a number of firewalls in place around our organisation and in some cases packets can pass through four levels of firewall limiting the flow TCP traffic. A concept that I'm used to from software testing is regression testing, allowing you to run a test suite against a changed application to verify that the new changes haven't affected any old features. Does anyone have any experience or an offer any solutions to being able to perform the same type of thing with firewall changes and network testing? The problem becomes a lot more complicated because you'd ideally want to be originating (and testing receipt) of packets across many machines.

• Best labeler for the server room?

  Right now, I've got a Brother P-touch labeler that prints four or five sizes of text on one long label. It has features such as italics and bold. It's...non-ideal. What do you use in your server room? I have heard of labelers that will print vertically as well as horizontally, or which can produce labels for cable management as well. I also think it would be great to be able to produce barcodes for my tapes (LTO-3). So basically, I would like a labeler that prints normal, can print cable labels, and can print barcodes. Unicorn optional. Any ideas, or could you even suggest the best labeler for each solution?

• Can a power failure or forceful shutdown damage hardware?

  Can computer hardware suffer damage from forceful shutdowns (holding the power button for five (5) seconds) or power failures? I believe that normal PC hardware does not suffer from this - after all, it's not much different than what they experience under a standard shutdown. But elsewhere I've read tht another person thought that it could do physical harm to the hard drive and possibly other components as well. He also said that the journaling features of filesystems are useless in face of power failures and were intended to help mitigate damage from system crashes. I think this is nonsense, but then again I lack the experience and knowledge to say it with certainty.

  How does sticky sessions relate to HTTP and HTTPS; If I place a load balancer in front of some web app servers that run a front end that supports HTTPS, will the sessions remain "sticky" on a typical load balancer that lists "stick sessions" as one of it's supported features? I understand that question is partly open ended; To clarify, would I require a load balancer that supports sticky HTTPS session specifical or is "sticky sessions" a principal that functions agnostic of the HTTP payload, be it encrypted or not?   Description of project- I have a test tool to which DUT connects. The test tool has an access point in it and once DUT get connected to it via mac address we check RSSI and some other features of WiFi of DUT. Now I am wondering is there is any way I can measure throughput of Device under test via mac address of DUT from server side. Test-tool has LINUX fedora 11 in it and major coding is done in c/C++ and json command. Previously, I have tried to install ftp server on test-tool and DUT can connect to it and we can measure the throughput or data transfer rate, but this is not feasible solution as it requires lot of intervention from DUT. What I am interested in is 1) To run some script on server side /test tool and it gives me throughput of bandwidth of connected device may be via mac address of DUT OR 2) Server script transfer some files/packets to DUT and we can measure the throughput. Coding is not a major challenge at this stage , I just need some tool which requires minimum intervention from DUT.

  I have been reinstalling Windows 7 over and over again on an ASUS P5lD2 2Gb Ram 3Ghz P4 because it ultimately loses the contents of "Turn Windows Features On or Off" after I install software like Autocad 2010 & Microsoft Office 2007. I get install errors like 1935 and 1704 on the way tried different fixes at different times (install software in different order to try and isolate problem too). Ultimately I force the software to install after much buggering and end up losing the contents of "TWFOOO" Should I be installing some older items like .net framework 1.1, 2.0 and Visual Studio items like vcredist_x86.exe? getting a bit lost because of compounded problems...

One of Vista's new features is TCP autotuning. Autotuning monitors the tcp connection and dynamically adjust the buffer sizes to allow for optimal communication. I would like to use auto tuning on our windows xp machine so I don't need to guess what my buffers sizes should be. Is there a way to install either a microsoft or 3rd party tcp autotuner on windows xp?

• Laptops trying to connect via wireless? Only able to connect only via wired connection

  It seems that all the wireless laptops in the office have disconnected and are unable to reconnect to the wifi after a terrible storm caused some power interruptions. Troubleshooting actions Verify wireless broadcasting is up With each laptop i ended up flushing their dns cache on Win 7 (ipconfig /flush ) Performed an ipconfig /all to see what the new ip is Made sure password was correct Reset the router (multiple times) restarted each laptop. Tried connecting wirelessly Am i missing some small detail ? Network information The router is a linksys/cisco WRVS4400N router. Supports a lot of fancy features i don't know how to use. • World's simplest, LIGHTEST email client?

  I do not want the bloat that is outlook, nor do I need exchange server-like nifty features. Most certainly do not want the bloat that is thunderbird. I just want to be able to send and receive email as/with the particular email account I set up on my domain. Pocomail sounded like a nice idea but apparently it does not deal with html and since this is for a tiny fledgling biz, i think I might need to accomodate html... so I didn't investigate further. Too bad gmail won't let me send from my own mail server, really. :o) What do you guys use that simple and nifty? ===edit=== forgot to mention this is going to be on Windows Vista. • Need personal music collection streaming solution

  I used to use Opera and it's built in media server feature for some time and it both worked and looked really well. It's dead now and i'm in search of a decent audio streaming solution (Windows 8) to be able to stream my music collection via http to work or whatever.. I tried couple of PHP scripts but they all looked really awful, also, tried couple of solutions mentioned here at Superuser but i wasn't really satisfied.. I tried vibestreamer as well and while it looks really nice i'm not really into installing it as an application. I've set up an WAMP server which i intend to use in this purpose. I'd be mostly satisfied with a way to browse my collection folders and pick the one i want to play, no playlists and various sorting features a la iTunes. Any suggestions? Thanks

• Configuring htaccess to show authentication prompt only for subdomain

  How do I write the htaccess so that it will only require authentication when on admin.example.com, but not on www.example.com (like by using some if-else clause)? Background: I have a site running in two modes: The admin mode should be reached at something like admin.example.com, whereas the normal mode would be www.example.com -- but both should point to the same directory & scripts within them (the scripts then turn on certain editing features by checking if the script is accessed from the admin subdomain). Edit: I can now see this has been asked and answered at StackOverflow, though I can't get the top answer to work for me...

• FoxPro 2.6 DOS on Windows 7 64-bit

  I support a company that has a very old, mission critical, FoxPro for DOS 2.6 (FPD) application. For variuos reasons the company didn't adapt/migrate their app, which, ironically, has been running even better under Windows XP (and 32-bit Win7) because the OS allowed new features like more reliable networking, distributed printing, email integration. Unfortunately for this company, most new machines now come with a 64-bit version of Windows 7, which is incompatible with their FPD app. I know this time the writing is on the wall: the only long-term solution is to migrate their app. But I wonder if anyone can suggest a temporary alternative path, which doesn't involve either: downgrade 64-bit Windows to 32-bit, or run the app on a virtualized 32-bit XP

  It is common knowledge that you can get a virus just by visiting a website. But how is this possible? Do these viruses attack Windows, Mac and Linux users, or are Mac/Linux users immune? I understand that I obviously can get a virus by downloading and executing a .exe in Windows but how can I get a virus just by accessing a website? Are the viruses programmed in JavaScript? (It would make sense since it is a programming language that runs locally.) If so, what JavaScript functions are the ones commonly used?

• Alternatives to the ClickToPlugin Safari extension for Chrome users

  I have been using Safari with ClickToPlugin and was wondering if there was anything similar for Chrome. I am looking for both the click-through to plugin functionality as well as the HTML5 video replacements. I've done some looking around the Chrome extensions page and found some specific extensions to help with forcing the HTML5 on YouTube or to block Flash but none seem offer the generic functionality (click-through works for any given plugin) and flexibility that ClickToPlugin does (ClickToPlugin has HTML5 video replacements for a plethora of websites). I am looking to mimic the aforementioned features in Chrome, but they don't necessarily have to be provided by one single extension.
