• How can I fix the #c3284d# malvertising hack on my website?

  For the past couple of weeks at semi regular intervals, this website has had the #c3284d# malware code inserted into some of its .php files. Also the .htaccess file had its equivelant code inserted. I have, on many occasions removed the malicious code, replaced files, changed the ftp password on my ftp client (which is CoreFTP), changed the connection method to FTPS for more secure storage of the password (instead of plain text). I have also scanned my computer several times using AVG and Windows Defender which have found no malware on my computer which might have been storing my ftp passwords. I used Sucuri SiteCheck to check my website which says my website is clean of malware which is bizarre because I just attempted to click one of the links on the site a minute ago and it linked me to another one of these random stats.php sites, even though it appears I have gotten rid of the #c3284d# code again (which will no doubt be re-inserted somehow in an hour or so).. Has anyone found an actual viable solution for this malware hack? I have done just about all of the things suggested here and here and the problem still persists. Currently when I click on a link within the sites navigation menu within Google Chrome I get googles Malware warning page: Warning: Something's Not Right Here! oxsanasiberians.com contains malware. Your computer might catch a virus if you visit this site. Google has found that malicious software may be installed onto your computer if you proceed. If you've visited this site in the past or you trust this site, it's possible that it has just recently been compromised by a hacker. You should not proceed. Why not try again tomorrow or go somewhere else? We have already notified oxsanasiberians.com that we found malware on the site. For more about the problems found on oxsanasiberians.com, visit the Google Safe Browsing diagnostic page. I'm wondering if it is possible that the Google Chrome browser I am using has itself been hacked? Does anyone else get re-directed when clicking links on the the website?

• Role based access to resources for a RESTful service

  I'm still wrapping my head around REST, but I wonder if someone can help with any suggestions or approaches to role based access control for a RESTful service, particularly from the point of view of securing the data and how the URLs might look. It's probably best to consider an example: Say I have a REST service for Customers, and want to split the users of this REST service into Admin, Editor and Reader roles: Admins can change all attributes of a Customer resource Editors can change only some Readers can only view them. Access control rights are assigned to the Customers entities individually. So for example a user of the service might have admin rights to Customers 1,2 and 3 but Editor access to 4,5 and Reader access to 7,8,9. Now consider the user calling the service. What is a good way to seperate the list of Customers for the current User? GET /Customer - this might get a list of all customers that the current user has Admin\Editor\Reader access to. But then on each Customer the consumer would need an indication of what role they have. Or would it be "better" having something like GET /Customer/Admin - return all customers the current user has Admin access to. Just looking for some high level pointers or reading on a decent way to secure\filter the resources based on roles of the current user.

• Issue updating domain name servers from BlueHost to AWS

  I am trying to migrate my site hosting from bluehost to AWS cloud based service. I have the site up and running on AWS with an elastic IP configured, it loads fine when I specify the IP address in the browser. I have gone into Route 53 on the AWS console and created a "hosted zone" for the domain. I then created a new record set of type "A" using the IP address as the value. I have a domain name registered with bluehost. Ive logged into the bluehost account and updated the domain name servers to point to those specified in Route 53 in the AWS console. When I hit the IP address directly the site loads, however it doesn't load when using the domain name (I get a google chrome oops error page saying page is not found) I've tried using this site: http://dns.squish.net/ to debug but it seems to be giving me the correct results. fizaclegems.com 300 IN A 107.20.209.78 Where 107.20.209.78 matches the elastic IP configured in the AWS console. This is the result it gives for all 4 name servers. Am I missing a step here? Does anyone know what else I should be doing or looking for?

• How to synchronize a whole Ubuntu?

  I think that the time is ripe to have my whole Ubuntu synchronized just as my Dropbox folder is. Given that we are always talking about files and directories, what's the difference between my Documents folder and my /usr system directory? Almost none, except for their location. In fact, I think that there is just one big issue that prevents people to have their beloved installations mirrored wherever they go: symlinks. Dropbox, Google Drive, Ubuntu One, Sugarsync, Skydrive, none of these services support symlinking. This means that if I push a symlink in one of the synced folders, locally the symlink is kept as is, but remotely (in the cloud or on the other synced machines) the symlink is resolved to the actual file that was originally pointed to. This completely disrupts Linux installations, thus these services can't be used for this purpose. So the question is. Does anybody knows a way to achieve this? A whole Ubuntu, always synchronized with a remote running copy, but still locally stored on both disks? My best guess is that I could use NFS. But the main difference between Dropbox and NFS is that NFS is a remote filesystem that always forces to remotely access the files, while Dropbox pushes modifcations to local filesystems (and thus would perform better). I've also heard about NFS caching. Does anybody knows if this solution could approximate Dropbox in this sense? P.s. I know that /boot, /dev, /proc, /run, /tmp and device-specific mountpoints in /mnt and /media will have to be left out the sync mechanism. What I'm interested in is the principle. Can this be done with reasonable performance, having reasonable resources (e.g. ~ 1Mbps upload bandwidth and a public IP address)?

• Can't boot to Windows 7 after installing Ubuntu 11.10

  Here's what happened: I have 2 HDDs. 1st HDD is partitioned like this: C - Windows 7 D* - Empty drive where I installed Ubuntu E - Personal Files F - Personal Files 2nd HDD is partitioned like this: G - Personal Files *the D partition is originally part of the C partition. I resized it (using Easus Partition Master in Windows) and defragged it prior to installing Ubuntu. I installed Ubuntu by booting to the Ubuntu Secure Remix CD, and chose the D partition to install Ubuntu. I did not create a swap drive, and I mounted the / to the D partition. I didnt know where to mount the others, so I just thought by mounting the / to D, it would be okay. After the long installation, upon rebooting, I can't access Windows AND Ubuntu. I get an infinite bootloop and eventually the choices to boot to Safe Modes, Last Known Good Configuration and Start Windows normally. After failing in all of them, I placed the CD back and ran the Boot Repair. I chose the MBR 1st, it didn't work. I then chose the GRUB 2nd and now I was able to boot to the Ubuntu I installed, but not to my Windows 7! I'm using my newly installed Ubuntu while writing this. I hope you can help me. I know about boot repairing, but how can I use it, If i cant boot ubuntu?? I heard about terrible problems with windows 8-linux dual boot, but I really need ubuntu because of school. I read many tutorials how to install ubuntu next to windows8, but despite that a problem accured. Here is what I have done. I have MSI GE60, windows(64bit) is running on mSATA SSD C drive. HDD is divided to two partitions for windows and I left there 50GB for ubuntu. I downloaded ubuntu 12.04.3desktop-amd64(64bit), created bootable USB using Universal USB Installer (recommended on Ubuntu site). I disabled USB legacy support (that Ubuntu could be installed in EFI mode- I was following instructions on Ubuntu site), and also Secure Boot (windows is now angry with me because I turned it off- when I start windows it informs me I should enable that). I inserted USB rebooted computer and chose install ubuntu, divided free 50GB space to swap(2000MB) and rest as ext4 main storage space for ubuntu. Installation passed normally, Ubuntu then asked me to reboot computer. After reboot windows 8 started. Now I can't start ubuntu. When I restart win8 to uefi there is possibility to boot ubuntu, but when I choose it, it crashes. When I choose try ubunfu from connected USB, nothing happend, still dark screed. What is wrong? Can you help me? I am in hurry to do it because of school. Thanks.

• Database development/admin - What exactly should I be trying to learn? [closed]

  I've been a bit weary about approaching learning databases. I've dabbled into them before, and "DATA" in itself appeals to me a lot. Maintaining/searching/moving, everything about it in the abstract sense I love. (This isn't a career question, this is a learning question.) But as RDBMS's begin to be easier to maintain, and with tools that "anyone" can use to manage data I feared for the database admin jobs. (Yet I see jobs for SQL everywhere!). I know "No-SQL" was a big deal but it kinda has its niche. But that leaves me here... unsure of really "what" to study. What tools should I have in my tool belt? I'm sure RDBMS's will be around in both use and maintaining legacy code. But what else? Obviously data will always be around, but is this a secure field or a dying one? And what should I be concentrating on?

• Can I install Ubuntu 13.10 without the internet?

  I'm new to Ubuntu and Linux in general. I'm currently out of town and the dorm I am living in has terrible internet connection. It won't be another 2-3 weeks before I can go home and have proper internet connection. So my question is whether or not I can install Ubuntu 13.10 in my laptop without the internet and then do the updates once I go home? Also, I'm attempting to do a dual boot with my Lenovo G505s which was pre-installed with Windows 8. Hopefully I can pull this off. I already did the necessary things (I think and hope so) prior to installation: Disable secure boot Enable legacy and boot UEFI first Create partition Put installer in my pen drive As I am quite new to this, any advice would be of great help. Thanks in advance! EDIT: I tried yesterday. The installation asked me to connect to the internet, so I used my crappy dorm internet. When it reached the downloading/installtion of Ubuntu One, it just stopped and went on forever. So I had to stop it.

• Installing Ubuntu on HP Envy 4 - 1104tx (preinstalled Windows 8)

  I have been using Linux for more than 2 years now. I had hp pavilion dv4 laptop and Ubuntu 12.04 was working great. I recently purchased HP Envy 4 - 1104tx which has Windows 8 preinstalled. I tried to install Ubuntu 12.04 but since it is not much compatible with UFEI, I downloaded 64 bit iso of ubuntu 12.10. Made a liveUSB using UnetBootin 583. I followed Installing Ubuntu on a Pre-Installed UEFI Supported Windows 8 system but still I am not able to boot with LiveUSB. I disabled secure boot. There is no option for fast boot or anything as such. It still wouldn't work. I also tried booting through Legacy, but I'm unable to install via LiveUSB. Is there any other way? I don't have SSD so no problem of fake raid. Is there some way by which I can install Ubuntu (12.04 preferred)? I don't care about Windows 8. Is there any way via which I can install Ubutnu over Windows 8? (I don't have a CD/DVD ROM).

  My husband and I are relocating to Munich in August (He's German). I have been looking for jobs online since I heard that software developers are in great demand. And by the looks of it, seems to be correct. There are lots of offers on line but I have a problem, my german is not spectacular. I would rate it as basic. Good to be a tourist but not good to write anything formal, not even my cover letter. So I was wondering how hard is really going to be to find a job for me with virtually no german (I'm studying, but good german is not going to happen over night). Also, would it be possible to secure a job before arriving to Germany? I have nearly 10 years of working experience developing software, mostly in .net (c#, vb, winForms, asp.net) but I also know java. 3 years experience as a team leader for groups of up to 8 people.
