• How to utilize WebDev.WebServer.exe (VS Web Server) in x64?

  Visual Studio is x86 until at least the 2010 release comes around, my question is can anyone think of a way or know of an independent ASP.NET debug server that's x64 for 2008? Background: Our ASP.NET application runs against Oracle as the DB. Since we're on 64-bit servers for memory concerns later, we need to use Oracle's 64-bit drivers (Instant Client). Setup: x64 OS (XP or Windows 7) IIS (5 or 7, both x64 App Pools) Oracle 64-bit Instant Client (Separate Directory, in the PATH) Visual Studio 2008 SP1 In IIS the application pool runs as 64-bit, uses the Oracle drivers as intended, however since WebDev.WebServer.exe is 32-bit you'll get a BadImageFormatException because it's trying to load 64-bit driver DLLs in a 32-bit environment. All of our developers would like to be able to use the quick debug server via Visual Studio 2008, but since it runs as 32-bit we're unable to. Some problems we run into are during application startup, so although we're attaching to the IIS process sometimes that isn't enough to track an issue down. Are there any alternatives, or work-arounds? We would like to match our Dev/Val/Prod tiers as much as possible, so everything running in x64 would be ideal.

We do have stored procedures that run for a long time before they return results (around 15 seconds). does anyone have any ideas on what could be causing this? I dont think raising the # of connections on the application server will fix this issue buecause if connections were running out then we'd see "Error on allocating connections"

• How can I install other applications after a failed installation using apt-get?

  I have a VPS with Ubuntu Server 10.10 x64. I tried to install Java using apt-get install openjdk-6-jre but that fails, see ca-certificates-java fails to install. Now I would like to install PHP with sudo apt-get install nginx php5-fpm php-apc php5-pgsql php5-suhosin but that also fails, with the same error message as I had with Java. Why is that? How can I install other applications now after the installation of Java has failed?

  The code below is just a test to connect to an Oracle database and fill data to a DataTable. After executing the statement da.Fill(dt);, I always get the exception "Exception of type 'System.OutOfMemoryException' was thrown.". Has anyone met this kind of error? My project is running on VS 2005, and my Oracle database version is 11g. My computer is using Windows Vista. If I copy this code to run on Windows XP, it works fine.   While separating business logic and data access logic into two different assemblies, I want to abstract away the concept of identity so that the business logic deals with one consistent identity without having to understand its actual representation in the data source. I've been calling this a compound identity abstraction. Data sources in this project are swappable and various and the business logic shouldn't care which data source is currently in use. The identity is the toughest part because its implementation can change per kind of data source, whereas other fields like name, address, etc are consistently scalar values. What I'm searching for is a good way to abstract the concept of identity, whether it be an existing library, a software pattern or just a solid good idea of some kind is provided. The proposed compound identity value would have to be comparable and usable in the business logic and passed back to the data source to specify records, entities and/or documents to affect, so the data source must be able to parse back out the details of its own compound ids. Data Source Examples: This serves to provide an idea of what I mean by various data sources having different identity implementations. A relational data source might express a piece of content with an integer identifier plus a language specific code. For example. content_id language Other Columns expressing details of content 1 en_us 1 fr_ca The identity of the first record in the above example is: 1 + en_us However when a NoSQL data source is substituted, it might somehow represent each piece of content with a GUID string 936DA01F-9ABD-4d9d-80C7-02AF85C822A8 plus language code of a different standardization, And a third kind of data source might use just a simple scalar value. So on and so forth, you get the idea.

  I am using 64 bits Windows 7. Oracle Development Tool: SQL Navigator 5.5 was installed on my computer. When I try to start the program I get this error: "Unhandled Exception at startup - Cannot find OCI DLL: oci.dll" Then I get this error: "Access violation at address 0101916B in module 'SQLNav5.exe'. Read of address 00000000" and then the program is terminatied. Any ideas what is the problem? Update: I am trying to install Oracle client - sql navigator - not sure if the server is 64 bits or not.

• Trying to install pdo_oci via PECL fails asking for PDO extension

  I'm using Linux Mint 11 (based on Ubuntu 11.04) and I need to use PHP with Oracle through PDO, a requirement of the framework we will work with. I've installed various PDO extensions using the normal apt-get method, like php5-mysql, etc, and they loaded just fine, along with the initial PDO extension. But there's no package for Oracle bindings. So, when I try to run sudo pecl install pdo_oci it throws me this: WARNING: "pear/PDO_OCI" is deprecated in favor of "channel://http://www.php.net/pdo_oci/ext/pdo_oci" pear/PDO_OCI requires PHP extension "pdo" (version >= 1.0) No valid packages found install failed How can I add this channel, or is there a better way to install the PDO_OCI extension?
