  This is a theoretical problem I am curious about. Websites are hosted on servers. Servers can be taken offline. Is it possible to host a website in the 'ether' of the Internet -- not on a server -- so that it cannot be taken down? One example, is that the website is hosted on other websites, like a parasite. Another is that it is assembled through storing pieces on DNS machines, routers, etc., so that it get assembled on the fly. The purpose is that this website could live forever because no one person can remove it. The answers I am looking for are plausible idea/approaches on technically how this could be built.

• Active C++ project to contribute to

  I am a self-taught c++/java programmer (I will be starting uni in August though!). I have worked on one project in which I was part of an active team. I really felt I learnt the most and gained a lot of experience while working with the team. Unfortunately it was a small closed source project which has recently taken a slumber. I'm looking for some active open source c++ projects which I could contribute to (preferably that are mainly developed on the linux platform). The other project I worked on was a video game, however, I would like to contribute to a project which has a functional purpose (other than to amuse). Any suggestions on possible projects?

• Unreachable code detected by using const variables

Is there a good way to have just one variable being constant, deriving the other from it, but not resulting in an unreachable code warning? Note that I need both values, on start of the camera it needs to be configured to the proper Pixel Format, and my image understanding code needs to know how many bits the image is in. So, is there a good workaround, or do I just live with this warning?

  Hey guys im in a very confused state of mind at the moment and need some help with Word Press and generally starting a website. My parents have had a business for 20 years and have finally decided to get a website! As im studying IT and Business i said id get it done for them. Rather than design it from scratch i used a template which i bought from themeforest.net (awesome template!) and yesterday a friend mentioned in passing using word press as a CMS which i had never heard of before, and he left before i could ask any questions. SO basically i have a site working on my computer and i have no idea how to get it live as a .com or .com.au, so far as i can see wordpress is a blog with .wordpress.com which isnt what im looking for. • Seeking through a streamed MP3 file with HTML5 <audio> tag

  Hopefully someone can help me out with this. I'm playing around with a node.js server that streams audio to a client, and I want to create an HTML5 player. Right now, I'm streaming the code from node using chunked encoding, and if you go directly to the URL, it works great. What I'd like to do is embed this using the HTML5 <audio> tag, like so: <audio src="http://server/stream?file=123"> where /stream is the endpoint for the node server to stream the MP3. The HTML5 player loads fine in Safari and Chrome, but it doesn't allow me to seek, and Safari even says it's a "Live Broadcast". In the headers of /stream, I include the file size and file type, and the response gets ended properly. Any thoughts on how I could get around this? I certainly could just send the whole file at once, but then the player would wait until the whole thing is downloaded--I'd rather stream it.

• Rail 3 custom renderer: where do put this code?

  I'm following along with Yehuda's example on how to build a custom renderer for Rails 3, according to this post: http://www.engineyard.com/blog/2010/render-options-in-rails-3/ I've got my code working, but I'm having a hard time figuring out where this code should live. Right now, I've got my code stuck right inside of my controller file. Doing this, everything works. When I move the code to the lib folder, though, I have explicitly 'require' my file in the controller that needs the renderer or it won't work. Yes, the file gets loaded when it sits in the lib folder, automatically. but the code to add the renderer isn't working for some reason, until I do a require on it. where should I put my code to add the renderer and mime type, so that rails 3 will pick it up and register it for me, without me having to manually require the file in my controller?

The remote voting units should be as small as possible. What form of data transmission should be used for the voting? The data is obviously very simple but there is a need to make sure each unit can only vote once per question. How would the data be received by the computer running the software?

  I'm currently developing a small WebApp that makes use of Google Maps (front-end uses jquery-ui-maps) jQuery Mobile with a fixed header & footer Now I encountered a conflict that appears on touch enabled devices as well as on desktop/mouse controlled "click" events: When I "tap" or "click" the map to actually "pan" it, then my header/footer toggles it's visibility. As I want to keep the toggle behaviour, I can't simply deactivate it, but showing/hiding the header/footer on every "pan" of the map is odd. After thinking some time about it, I think I got a concept that should work: Question: How I can I add a delay to the visibility toggle for the header/footer? So when I don't release the finger/mouse after XYms, the header/footer doesn't show/hide? • Automated testing of a website for IE7 javascript errors?

  This week I decided to add a new element to a javascript array by copying a similar one from a previous line; unfortunately I forgot to remove the comma so the end result was something like var a = [1, 2, 3,]. The code went live late Friday afternoon just before everyone left for the week-end, and it completely broke everything in Internet Explorer 7 (and lower I assume) since it's such a great browser. Since there was no one to read emails (week-end) it went unnoticed for quite a while, and I really don't want something like this to happen again (especially in my code).. This is not the first of weird IE7 problems; I was wondering if there was a way to automatically test key pages looking for javascript or css errors, or really anything that IE8 would output in its new console in development tools. If there isn't, what do you usually do? You test the website after every change with all the browsers you support? (Something I'll do from now, at least for IE, if there is no way to run automated tests)

  I followed the steps on this tutorial video by at subsonic website. Everything seems to be self explanatory but when I copy the .tt files into my Visual Studio nothing happens. I have read other question relating to this problem on this website but they don't seem to fix this problem. I also went into the regedit to find out the generator key for .tt files and it is properly set. This is not a visual studio express or anything but a professional edition also I am trying to build a ASP.net web application and not a MVC application like the demo. • Finding the best folder for all users on a Windows machine

  We are making a game which will add a level editor feature soon. We want the user to be able to put levels he's downloaded in a folder and then play it in the game, without any hassle. So, we're looking for a folder that anybody can find, open, write, read, and is multiuser. On Windows Vista / 7, the folder /Users/Public/ look like a great candidate. However, It's not listed in the .net enum System.Environment.SpecialFolder. I have went through them all, and checked what they yield on different Windows versions, and none live up to my requirements. I did find Environment.SpecialFolder.CommonApplicationData, that kinda works, but that folder is hidden (C:\ProgramData) and I assume most users don't display hidden folders. As it stands now, it looks like we'll have to settle for the personal documents folder, but we'd really like a multi user folder? Anyone have any tips? (Hard coding c:\Users\Public\ is out of the question, it will only work on english systems)

• My iPhone App doesn't work in iOS 4. Why?

  Hi everybody. I make a iPhone App that display some videos, I made it with Xcode 3.2.2 with iPhone SDK 3.1.3 and works fine. But a few days ago I downloaded the last version of the iPhone SDK for iOS 4, the proyect Build ok, no erros, no warnings, but when I run the aplication the video didn't work, the image didn't load but sound works. I don't understand it. Here is the code that I used.   I have a page with the following two divs: <div id="searchResults"> </div> <div class="postSearchOptions" style="display: none;"> </div> Is there any way that I can make the "postSearchOptions" div appear when the "searchResults" div is updated by an AJAX call? I don't control the AJAX calls and I want to detect any change in the "searchResults" div. I tried writing the following JQuery code, but then realized that it requires Jquery 1.4 and I only have 1.3: $("#searchResults").live("change", function() { $(".postSearchOptions").css("display", "inline"); }); Is there any way to catch the event of the searchResults div changing using either standard JavaScript or Jquery 1.3? • Using ScriptCombining through a ScriptManager on a Master Page

  ASP.NET 3.5 SP1 adds a great new ScriptCombining feature to the ScriptManager object as demonstrated on this video. However he only demonstrates how to use the feature with the ScriptManager on the same page. I'd like to use this feature on a site where the scriptmanager is on the master page but can't figure out how to add the scripts I need for each page programmatically to the manager. • Disabling Firefox spell checking in iframe-based text editors

  There is a lot of info around about how to disable spell checking in html textarea element by using spellcheck='false'. However to have text area with more advanced capabilities, one must use iframe with designMode = "on" (see e.g. this page, this is a way that RichTextArea is implemented in GWT) and I couldn't find a single post on that topic. It turns out that Firefox detects such advanced text areas and enables its spell checking in them. You can see it live by visiting this page from Firefox and entering some content to text field. If you inspect this code, you'll see no textarea tag, yet FF spell checking is still active. The only way I managed to disable it was setting designMode to off but... I need it to be on. The question is: Is there any possibility to disable spell checking in such cases, without setting designMode = "off"?

• Reformat a YouTube URL using jQuery

  I am using the YouTube Channel jQuery script to pull in data from a YouTube channel. Then I'm using an iFrame on the page to display the videos without leaving the site. The only problem is that the URLs the Channel plugin is pulling in don't quite work with my iFrame concept. They load the whole YouTube page instead of just the video. I figured out a workaround that basically I reformat the URL and tell it to display fullscreen and to autoplay will do what I would like it to do. The URLs are currently formatted like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xxxxxxxxx&feature=youtube_gdata and I need them to be rewritten as http://www.youtube.com/v/xxxxxxxxx?fs=1&autoplay=1 I've seen a couple of similar topics here on SO, but given my limited jQuery and regex talents I wasn't able to get anything to work for my purposes.

• Xml files stop being served by IIS6 after allowing .net to process the .xml extension

  I added a route into my site to allow for a sitemap and everything worked fine in IIS7 but once I deployed the route stopped working. Since the live server is running IIS6 I needed to put a new mapping in for .xml to be processed by .net and then it started to work. My issue though is on every other xml file on the site now. I keep getting a 404 error when trying to view xml files, but the sitemap.xml route works. Is this a routing issue or an IIS setup issue? • Silverlight 4 Assembly Sharing Problem

  I have a WPF .NET 4.0 class library referencing a Silverlight 4 class library. The SL library compiles fine but when I compile the WPF class library, I get: Error 2 Unknown build error, 'Cannot resolve dependency to assembly 'System.Windows, Version=2.0.5.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=7cec85d7bea7798e' because it has not been preloaded. When using the ReflectionOnly APIs, dependent assemblies must be pre-loaded or loaded on demand through the ReflectionOnlyAssemblyResolve event.' MyProj.Presentation.Wpf I figure the problem must be similar to the one mentioned here: http://markti.spaces.live.com/blog/cns!D92CF278F0F91957!273.entry but my WPF library doesn't contain any XAML that references a user control from my SL library. In fact, my SL library doesn't have any XAML in it at all. It does, however, have several shared DependencyObjects, such as an EventCommander (binding UI element events to Commands), and some DataTemplate helpers. Is there any way I can narrow down the problem here? And has anyone found a way of effectively referencing UI elements in a SL4 project from .NET 4.0? Thanks.

  Hey, I would like to create a SDP media field with its attributes, and there are a few things I don't understand. I've skimmed and read the relevant RFC and I understand most of what each field means, but what I don't understand is how do I derive from the Audio/Video Format of the JMF, which parameters of the format compose the rtpmap registry entries I need to use. I see many times the fields m=audio 12548 RTP/AVP 0 8 101 a=rtpmap:0 PCMU/8000 a=rtpmap:8 PCMA/8000 a=rtpmap:101 telephone-event/8000 a=fmtp:101 0-16 a=silenceSupp:off - - - - a=ptime:20 a=sendrecv these are received from the pbx server I'm connecting to, what do they mean in the terms of the JMF audio format properties. (I do understand these are standard audio format commonly used in telecommunication) UPDATE: I was more wondering about the format parameter '0 8 101' at the end of m=audio 12548 RTP/AVP 0 8 101 Thanks in advance, Adam Zehavi.
