• help with synclient configuration on an ASUS touchpad

  I have recently installed Ubuntu 12.04 on my brand new ASUS K55V. The touchpad behaves weird - two finger tap is interpreted as right-click, click and drag is not working (a double click is needed) and so on. Two finger scrolling (horizontal & vertical) works great. I want the touch pad to behave the "normal" way (that is - like in my old laptop...). I read the synclient documentation and many of the questions posted here, and I can even make some stuff work. Unfortunately, I couldn't figure out how to make these work: Click and drag (that is - physically clicking the button and dragging a finger) Clicking in the right side of the button interpreted as right-click Clicking button with two fingers interpreted as middle-click. specs: The touchpad is equipped with a physical button that clicks. • Building Publishing Pages in Code

  Originally posted on: http://geekswithblogs.net/djacobus/archive/2013/10/27/154478.aspxOne of the Mantras we developers try to follow: Ensure that the solution package we deliver to the client is complete.  We build Web Parts, Master Pages, Images, CSS files and other artifacts that we push to the client with a WSP (Solution Package) And then we have them finish the solution by building their site pages by adding the web parts to the site pages.       I am a proponent that we,  the developers,  should minimize this time consuming work and build these site pages in code.  I found a few blogs and some MSDN documentation but not really a complete solution that has all these artifacts working in one solution.   What I am will discuss and provide a solution for is a package that has: 1.  Master Page 2.  Page Layout 3.  Page Web Parts 4.  Site Pages   Most all done in code without the development team or the developers having to finish up the site building process spending a few hours or days completing the site!  I am not implying that in Development we do this. In fact,  we build these pages incrementally testing our web parts, etc. I am saying that the final action in our solution is that we take all these artifacts and add them to the site pages in code, the client then only needs to activate a few features and VIOLA their site appears!.  I had a project that had me build 8 pages like this as part of the solution.   In this blog post, I am taking a master page solution that I have called DJGreenMaster.  On My Office 365 Development Site it looks like this:     It is a generic master page for a SharePoint 2010 site Along with a three column layout.  Centered with a footer that uses a SharePoint List and Web Part for the footer links.  I use this master page a lot in my site development!  Easy to change the color and site logo with a little CSS.   I am going to add a few web parts for discussion purposes and then add these web parts to a site page in code.    Lets look at the solution package for DJ Green Master as that will be the basis project for building the site pages:   What you are seeing  is a complete solution to add a Master Page to a site collection which contains: 1.  Master Page Module which contains the Master Page and Page Layout 2.  The Footer Module to add the Footer Web Part 3.  Miscellaneous modules to add images, JQuery, CSS and subsite page 4.  3 features and two feature event receivers: a.  DJGreenCSS, used to add the master page CSS file to Style Sheet Library and an Event Receiver to check it in. b.  DJGreenMaster used to add the Master Page and Page Layout.  In an Event Receiver change the master page to DJGreenMaster , create the footer list and check the files in. c.  DJGreenMasterWebParts add the Footer Web Part to the site collection. I won’t go over the code for this as I will give it to you at the end of this blog post. I have discussed creating a list in code in a previous post.  So what we have is the basis to begin what is germane to this discussion.  I have the first two requirements completed.  I need now to add page web parts and the build the pages in code.  For the page web parts, I will use one downloaded from Codeplex which does not use a SharePoint custom list for simplicity:   Weather Web Part and another downloaded from MSDN which is a SharePoint Custom Calendar Web Part, I had to add some functionality to make the events color coded to exceed the built-in 10 overlays using JQuery!    Here is the solution with the added projects:     Here is a screen shot of the Weather Web Part Deployed:   Here is a screen shot of the Site Calendar with JQuery:     Okay, Now we get to the final item:  To create Publishing pages.   We need to add a feature receiver to the DJGreenMaster project I will name it DJSitePages and also add a Event Receiver:       We will build the page at the site collection level and all of the code necessary will be contained in the event receiver.   Added a reference to the Microsoft.SharePoint.Publishing.dll contained in the ISAPI folder of the 14 Hive.   First we will add some static methods from which we will call  in our Event Receiver:   1: private static void checkOut(string pagename, PublishingPage p) 2: { 3: if (p.Name.Equals(pagename, StringComparison.InvariantCultureIgnoreCase)) 4: { 5: 6: if (p.ListItem.File.CheckOutType == SPFile.SPCheckOutType.None) 7: { 8: p.CheckOut(); We the called the Publishing Page update method. 5.  Lastly, the Create Publishing Page method checks in the page just created.   Here is a screen shot of the page right after a deploy!       Okay!  I know we could make a home page look much better!  However, I built this whole Integrated solution in less than a day with the caveat that the Green Master was already built!  So what am I saying?  Build you web parts, master pages, etc.  At the very end of the engagement build the pages.  The client will be very happy!  Here is the code for this solution Code

• web server response code 500

  I realize that this may spur a religious discussion, but I discussed this with friends and get great, but conflicting answers and the actual documentation is of little help. What does the 500 series response codes mean from the webserver? Internal Server Error, but that is vague. My assumption is that it means that something bad happened to the server (file system corruption, no connection to the database, network issue, etc.) but not specifically a data driven error (divide by zero, record missing, bad parameter, etc). Something to note, there are some web client implementations (the default Android and Blackberry httpclients) that do not allow access to the html boddy if the server response is 500 so there is no way to determine what caused the issue from the client. What I have been been implementing recently is a web service that returns a json payload wrapped in a response object that contains more specific error information if it is data related, but the server response will be 200 since it finished the actual processing. Thoughts?

• Common usecases and techniques when integrating a 3rd party application with Oracle Sales Cloud

  Over the last year or so I've see a lot of partners migrating and integrate their applications with Oracle Sales Cloud. Interestingly I'd say 60% of the partners use the same set of design patterns over and over again. Most of the time I see that they want to embed their application into Oracle Sales Cloud, within a tab usually, perhaps click on a link to their application (passing some piece of data + credentials) and then within their application update sales cloud again using webservices. Here are some examples of the different use-cases I've seen , and how partners are embedding their applications into Sales Cloud, NB : The following examples use the "Desktop" User Interface rather than the Newer "Simplified User Interface", I'll update the sample application soon but the integration patterns are precisely the same Use Case 1 :  Navigator "Link out" to third party application This is an example of where the developer has added a link to the global navigator and this links out to the 3rd Party Application. Typically one doesn't pass any contextual data with the exception of perhaps user credentials, or better still JWT Token. Techniques Used   Adding Link to Menu Item Using JWT Token in Sales Cloud Use Case 2 : Application Embedded within the Sales Cloud Dashboard Within the Oracle Sales Cloud application there is a tab called "Sales", within this tab its possible to embed a SubTab and embed a iFrame pointing to your application. To do this the developer simply needs to edit the page in customization mode, add the tab and then add the iFrame, simples! The developer can pass credentials/JWT Token and some other pieces of data but not object data (ie the current OpportunityID etc)  Techniques Used Adding a page to the dashboard  Using JWT Token in Sales Cloud  Use Case 3 : Embedding a Tab and Context Linking out from a Sales Cloud object to the 3rd party application In this usecase the developer embeds two components into Oracle Sales Cloud. The first is a SubTab showing summary data to the user (a quote in our case) and then secondly a hyperlink, (although it could be a button) which when clicked navigates the user to the 3rd party application. In this case the developer almost always passes context specific data (i.e. the opportunityId) and a security token (username password combo or JWT Token). The third party application usually takes the data, perhaps queries more data using the Sales Cloud SOAP/WebService interface and then displays the resulting mashup to the user for further processing. When the user has finished their work in the 3rd party application they normally navigate back to Oracle Sales Cloud using what's called a "DeepLink", ie taking them back to the object [opportunity in our case] they came from. This image visually shows a "Happy Path" a user may follow, and combines linking out to an application , webservice calls and deep linking back to Sales Cloud. Here the 3rd party application is running on a "timer", e.g. cron or similar, and when triggered it queries data from Oracle Sales Cloud, then it queries data from the 3rd party application, determines the deltas and then inserts the data where required. Specifically here we are calling Oracle Sales Cloud using SOAP/WebServices and the 3rd party application is being communicated to using the REST API, for Oracle Sales Cloud one would use standard JAX-WS WebService calls and for REST one would use the JAX-RS api and perhap the Jackson api for managing JSON objects..   I've made a prefab consisting of a Cube which I've first scaled to more resemble a brick. There's also a Rigidbody added to the cube (in the prefab). Now I want to use that prefab in a c# script to make a wall out of multiple bricks. My question is, how can I access the dimensions of my brick (width, height, the z dimension size) so that in my script I can make bricks which are placed one next to the other (and then one on top of the other)? I've looked at the documentation for GameObject and Rigidbody but I can't find anything helpful.   Running into a Java out of memory error, it is very common behaviour in the field that the Java heap size will be increased. While this might help to solve a heap space out of memory error, it might not help to fix an out of memory error for the Thread Local Area (TLA). Increasing the available heap space from 1 GB to 16 GB might not even help in this situation. The Thread Local Area (TLA) is part of the Java heap, but as the name already indicates, this memory area is local to a specific thread so there is no need to synchronize with other threads using this memory area. For optimization purposes the TLA size is configurable using the Java command line option “-XXtlasize”. Depending on the JRockit version and the available Java heap, the default values vary.   The Ubuntu Membership Wiki states: Contributions are valued and recognized whether you contribute to artwork, any of the LoCoTeams, documentation, providing support on the forums, the answers tracker, IRC support, bug triage, translation, development and packaging, marketing and advocacy, contributing to the wiki, or anything else. This defines what contributions "count" toward what will be considered valuable when applying for Ubuntu membership. What I want to know is, does my involvement on askubuntu fall under the stipulation "...or anything else"? I'd imagine they don't literally mean anything else, just things they consider to fit the scope of contributing to Ubuntu. So is my help here valuable in contributing? Has anyone ever obtained membership by using their askubuntu contributions as their argument toward membership?

• Problems detecting android tablet IView 788TPC with mtp-tools

  I installed mtp-tools on 14.04 "Trusty" through Software Center. No problems with install. Issuing `mtp-detect' results in 'Unable to open ~/.mtpz-data for reading, MTPZ disabled.libmtp version: 1.1.6 Listing raw device(s) No raw devices found.' I did some research and found that mtpfs might be required. so installed that with :~$ sudo apt-get install mtpfs I still get the following result :~$ mtp-detect Unable to open ~/.mtpz-data for reading, MTPZ disabled.libmtp version: 1.1.6 Listing raw device(s) No raw devices found. My research indicates that the mtp-tools package is still under development. source: http://libmtp.sourceforge.net/ and the documentation is not comprehensive. source man mtp-tools as well as mtp-detect -h I tried adding the PPA from Are there any plans to improve mtp support on future Ubuntu releases? but it seems this is already worked into trusty 14.04 and won't resolve the problem. Can anyone provide a recommended course of action to resolve this problem?

  I was nominated as scrum master in a new formed scrum team. We have already done some sprints. In the beginning I tried to make my team to work on one story at a time. But it didn't work. My team had difficulties to distribute the tasks in a way that they can work simultaneously on one story. Maybe we are doing something wrong? For example: we have a story to create a new dialog. We create the following tasks: Create Model classes Read model data from database Connect model classes with view Implement dialog handling Save data on close Test Documentation Solution Description Can theses tasks be done by more than one person at a time? The tasks - more or less - build upon each other. Or do we design the tasks in a wrong way?

• Best practices when loading images for improving page loading speed

  I am working on optimizing a page's loading speed. Here are some analytics: Notice how the images, although only accounting for 65% of the total size (1.1MB), are by far the slowest loading assets: 96% of time. I'd like to know which are the recommended practices on optimizing loading speed, only taking images into account. Some of the techniques we are already applying: image compression images hosted on cookieless domain and CDN spriting everything that can be sprited http headers: keep alive and Expires to one year. Disclaimer: I have gone through the available documentation, I think by focusing on image loading optimization I am not creating a duplicate or a subjective question.

• How to make rigid bodies collide with Apex Clothing in PhysX for Maya

  According to the [Apex] Clothing Overview section of the documentation: Colliding with Rigid Bodies Rigid bodies present in your scene will push clothing around roughly as you might expect. Well, I beg to differ. The Apex Cloth collides with the floor just fine, but that's about the only thing it collides with (unless I add ragdoll to the same skeleton that the cloth is attached to.) So for example, if I try to bounce a ball (dynamic rigid body) into the cloth, it simply bounces through it. If I try to walk an actor with ragdoll through it, he simply clips through it as well. Anyone have any insight on this?
