• Issue with VS 2008 designer and usercontrol.

  Hello, I have created a custom data grid control. I dragged it on windows form and set its properties like column and all & ran the project. It built successfully and I am able to view the grid control on the form. Now if i try to view that form in designer, I am getting following error.. Object reference not set to an instance of an object. Instances of this error (1) 1. • Loading JNI lib on OSX?

  Background So I am attempting to load a jnilib (specifically JOGL) into java on OSX at runtime. I have been following along the relevant stackoverflow questions: Maven and the JOGL Library Loading DLL in Java - Eclipse - JNI How to make a jar file that include all jar files The end goal for me is to package platform specific JOGL files into a jar and unzip them into a temp directory and load them at start-up. I worked my problem back to simply attempting to load JOGL using hard-coded paths: File f = new File("/var/folders/+n/+nfb8NHsHiSpEh6AHMCyvE+++TI/-Tmp-/libjogl.jnilib"); System.load(f.toString()); f = new File ("/var/folders/+n/+nfb8NHsHiSpEh6AHMCyvE+++TI/-Tmp-/libjogl_awt.jnilib"); System.load(f.toString()); I get the following exception when attempting to use the JOGL API: Exception in thread "main" java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: no jogl in java.library.path But when I specify java.library.path by adding the following JVM option: -Djava.library.path="/var/folders/+n/+nfb8NHsHiSpEh6AHMCyvE+++TI/-Tmp-/" Everything works fine. Question Is it possible use System.load (or some other variant) on OSX as a replacement for -Djava.library.path that is invoked at runtime?

• Examples of localization in Perl using gettext and Locale::TextDomain, with fallback if Locale::Text

  The "On the state of i18n in Perl" blog post from 26 April 2009 recommends using Locale::TextDomain module from libintl-perl distribution for l10n / i18n in Perl. Besides I have to use gettext anyway, and gettext support in Locale::Messages / Locale::TextDomain is more natural than in gettext emulation in Locale::Maketext. The subsection "15.5.18 Perl" in chapter "15 Other Programming Languages" in GNU gettext manual says: Portability The libintl-perl package is platform independent but is not part of the Perl core. The programmer is responsible for providing a dummy implementation of the required functions if the package is not installed on the target system. However neither of two examples in examples/hello-perl in gettext sources (one using lower level Locale::Messages, one using higher level Locale::TextDomain) includes detecting if the package is installed on the target system, and providing dummy implementation if it is not. What is complicating matter (with respect to detecting if package is installed or not) is the following fragment of Locale::TextDomain manpage: SYNOPSIS use Locale::TextDomain ('my-package', @locale_dirs); use Locale::TextDomain qw (my-package); USAGE It is crucial to remember that you use Locale::TextDomain(3) as specified in the section "SYNOPSIS", that means you have to use it, not require it. The module behaves quite differently compared to other modules. Could you please tell me how one should detect if libintl-perl is present on target system, and how to provide dummy fallthrough implementation if it is not installed? Or give examples of programs / modules which do this?

  Is it possible for BULK INSERT/bcp to read from a named pipe, fifo-style? That is, rather than reading from a real text file, can BULK INSERT/bcp be made to read from a named pipe which is on the write end of another process? For example: create named pipe unzip file to named pipe read from named pipe with bcp or BULK INSERT or: create 4 named pipes split 1 file into 4 streams, writing each stream to a separate named pipe read from 4 named pipes into 4 tables w/ bcp or BULK INSERT The closest I've found was this fellow (site now unreachable), who managed to write to a named pipe w/ bcp, with a his own utility and usage like so: start /MIN ZipPipe authors_pipe authors.txt.gz 9 bcp pubs..authors out \\.\pipe\authors_pipe -T -n But he couldn't get the reverse to work. So before I head off on a fool's errand, I'm wondering whether it's fundamentally possible to read from a named pipe w/ BULK INSERT or bcp. And if it is possible, how would one set it up? Would NamedPipeServerStream or something else in the .NET System.IO.Pipes namespace be adequate? eg, an example using Powershell: [reflection.Assembly]::LoadWithPartialName("system.core") $pipe = New-Object system.IO.Pipes.NamedPipeServerStream("Bob") And then....what?

• Are eCommerce platforms worth it for large scale systems?

  My company and I are building a new system for a relatively large client. We are going to be replacing their entire system, which includes some eCommerce aspects to it among many other things. It is not a typical public shopping site, and there are many things about the system (both back end and front end) that are quite different. Some of the people I work for are convinced that we should be using a third party product to implement the eCommerce pieces (shopping cart, catalog management). Their opinion is that it is a solved problem, and we shouldn't have to reinvent it. Given that direction, I have reviewed around ten different .NET based eCommerce platforms, and I struggle to imagine how we will be able to smoothly integrate any of them without a lot of friction. They are so all-encompassing that I feel like they are probably better suited for implementing simple shopping sites rather than larger systems that happen to have some eCommerce aspects to them. We have a really nice architecture planned for everything else (Entity Framework, ASP.NET MVC, etc.), and my gut is telling me that trying to introduce a third party platform will cause unnecessary fragmentation and difficulty. I would love to hear some opinions from people who have been there. Have you used a third party platform for eCommerce? Was it a typical shopping site or something different? Did you feel it was a help or a hinderance? Thanks.

• HttpUtility does not exist in the current context

  I get this error when compiling a C# application. Looks like a trivial error, but I can't get around it. My setup is Windows 7 64 bit. Visual-Studio 2010 C# express B2Rel. I added a reference to System.Web.dll located at C:\Program Files (x86)\Reference Assemblies\Microsoft\Framework\.NETFramework\v4.0, but it has a yellow exclamation symbol and I still get the above error. I also have the using System.Web declaration. What am I doing wrong? Update: After getting the prompt answer pointing me at the root cause, I searched a bit in Google to where it states that System.Web.dll is for the full framework. I did not find such a reference. For newbies like me, this blog summarizes the difference between the frameworks (client and full) nicely. I could not find a spot that says whether a certain Dll is supported in the client framework or not. I guess the exclamation mark in Visual Studio should be the first signal...

• Multiple CodeSnippet in an XML .snippet file

  I'm attempting to supplement the help features for my code by providing other developers with code snippets. These produce skeletons of code which demonstrate how to use/call my classes or methods. I've created a .snippet file and have placed it in the "%Visual Studio Folder%\Code Snippets\Visual Basic\My Snippets" folder. I've used the Code Snippets Manager and ensured that it included this folder so that I can access the snippets. Everything works well when I have 1 CodeSnippet tag within the root CodeSnippets tag.... When I add more than one CodeSnippet tag to the file (each with their own title, and their own code example) I'm experiencing something strange. The first CodeSnippet I've added contains code for adding something to my system, the second contains code for editing something in my system, and the third deleting something from the system. When I use the code snippet by right clicking and selecting "Insert Code Snippet", only the first code snippet in the file shows up as an option. When I select it, the code in the first CodeSnippet is inserted....but so is the code within the other CodeSnippet tags. Do you have to have a separate XML .snippet file for each code snippet you want to make available? After reading through MSDN about creating Code Snippets I was under the impression that this could all be done within one file. It seems that I'm not understanding something very basic here and would love to find the answer but apparently Code Snippets are under used so finding the answer has proven to be a little trickier than I first thought it would be. • HttpServletRequest#login() not working in Java.

  Hello, j_security_check just doesn't seem enough for me to perform login process. So, instead of submitting the form to j_security_check i created my own servlet and in that i am programmatically trying to do login. This works but i am not able to redirect to my restricted resource. Can anybody tell me what can be the problem?   I used this example to create a DateTime column for a DataGridView in my winforms app. http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/7tas5c80.aspx I can see the new column in the Windows Forms Designer and add it to an existing DataGridView. However, I want to be able to change the display format when I change the "DefaultCellStyle" within the designer. The designer generated code looks like this: DataGridViewCellStyle1.Format = "t" DataGridViewCellStyle1.NullValue = Nothing Me.colDate.DefaultCellStyle = DataGridViewCellStyle1 Me.colDatum.Name = "colDate" Me.colDatum.Resizable = System.Windows.Forms.DataGridViewTriState.[False] Which is fine. But since the code of the DataGridViewCalendarCell does this in the constructor: Public Sub New() Me.Style.Format = "d" End Sub The format never changes to "t" (time format). • Double buffering with C# has negative effect

  I have written the following simple program, which draws lines on the screen every 100 milliseconds (triggered by timer1). I noticed that the drawing flickers a bit (that is, the window is not always completely blue, but some gray shines through). So my idea was to use double-buffering. But when I did that, it made things even worse. Now the screen was almost always gray, and only occasionally did the blue color come through (demonstrated by timer2, switching the DoubleBuffered property every 2000 milliseconds). • ScriptSharp ClockLabel example with 0.6.2

  Hi folks, I'm developing in Visual Studio 2010 and I've just downloaded and installed Script# 0.6.2 for VS 2010. I'm trying to follow the clock example in the Read Me pdf but can't get it to compile. I've created a new Script# Class Library project inside my solution called Clock, renamed the .cs file to ClockBehaviour and added the following code as per the example: using System; using System.DHTML; using ScriptFX; using ScriptFX.UI; namespace Clock { public class ClockBehavior : Behavior { private int _intervalCookie; public ClockBehavior(DOMElement domElement, string id) : base(domElement, id) { _intervalCookie = Window.SetInterval(OnTimer, 1000); } public override void Dispose() { if (_intervalCookie != 0) { Window.ClearInterval(_intervalCookie); } base.Dispose(); } private void OnTimer() { DateTime dateTime = new DateTime(); DOMElement.InnerHTML = dateTime.Format("T"); } } } When I try and compile the project I get errors saying that the System.DHMTL, ScriptFX and ScriptFX.UI namespaces could not be found (and some others, but I guess by fixing these errors the others will fall out). It feels like I'm not referencing the correct projects/dlls. In the References for the project I have mscorlib and Script.Web. I've tried using the object browser find the classes (such as Behavior) in other namespaces but with no luck. I've added all of the .dlls from the ScriptSharp folder in Program Files but the namespaces still can't be found. Any help would be very much appreciated, Thanks, Hugh

  Hi, I'm working on a quite simple Webpage (MVC2), using localisation based on ResourceFiles. I have the MVC2 Project and the Resources in a seperate Assembly. The Resources contains 3 languages (Resource.resx, Resource.de.resx, Resource.en.resx, Resource.ja.resx) and I'm querying them via the ResourceManager. Call from the .aspx <% Resources.Res resman = new Resources.Res(); %> <%=resman.GetString("String1", new System.Globalization.CultureInfo("en")) %><br /> <%=resman.GetString("String1", new System.Globalization.CultureInfo("ja")) %><br /> <%=resman.GetString("String1", new System.Globalization.CultureInfo("de")) %><br /> ResourceManager: public class Res { private readonly ResourceManager Manager = Resources.Resource1.ResourceManager; public string GetString(string id, CultureInfo info) { return Manager.GetString(id, info); } } And for the compiled Version in VS2008 I get smth like this: String1EN String1JA String1DE Compiled in Visual Studio 2008, this works fine: but I'm having Troubles if I compile the Solution in Visual Studio 2010 (also 3.5 as TargetFramework). There the result shows smth like: String1DEFAULT String1JA String1DEFAULT I don't know what it can be: is this still a bug from the VS2010 RC or am I doing smth. wrong here?

• HtmlForm.Action and .Net Framework 2.0/3.5 Query

  Disappointingly, the members page for HtmlForm 2.0 is missing... My research seems to indicate that HtmlForm.Action is a property that was added in .Net Framework 3.5. However, I'm using VS2005 and my reference to System.Web (the namespace HtmlForm is under) is to a .Net Framework 2.0 runtime version. Further, my IIS status information also indicates I am using .Net Framework 2.0, when I force an error on my local IIS and read it. Despite this, I am able to use form1.Action successfully...but only on my local IIS. When I try it on vms and external servers, I get [MissingMethodException: Method not found: 'System.String System.Web.UI.HtmlControls.HtmlForm.get_Action()'.] errors. So, my question: 1) Why does it work on my local IIS? Does the fact that I have the 3.5 framework installed make a difference, here? 2) Why does it not work on other IIS? (I think this is because it's not part of .Net 2.0). I guess I just figure that if something is running on .Net Framework 2.0, the presence of 3.5 should not make a difference. Or maybe there's some other cause for these results.

• Android ndk-build command does nothing

  I have a similar question to that posted here: Android NDK: why ndk-build doesn't generate .so file and a new libs folder in Eclipse? ...though I am running Windows 7, not Mac os. Essentially the ndk-build command is run, gives no error but doesn't create an .so file (also, since I'm on windows this should create a .dll and not an .so?). I tried running the command from the root, jni, src folders etc. but got the same result; cmd just returns to the prompter after a few seconds. I ran it again from the jni folder with NDK_LOG=1 parameter to see what was happening. Here is a portion of the transcript of the log results after running ndk-build in the jni folder (after it successfully identified the platform, etc.)... • Is this error caused by a 64-bit library being accessed by a Java program running in a 32-bit JVM?

  I'm trying to create a simple Java app that uses JNI to call some native functions. I've followed the examples in the JNI Programming Guide and can't seem to get them to work. I have the following Hello World program, written in Java: class HelloWorld { private native void print(); public static void main(String [] args) { new HelloWorld().print(); } static { System.load("/home/mike/Desktop/libHelloWorld.so"); } } I compile it using javac HelloWorld.java, just like normal. Then I run javah -jni HelloWorld, and finally the following: gcc34 -shared -fpic -o libHelloWorld.so -I/<path to JDK>/include -I/<path to JDK>/include/linux HelloWorld.c gcc34 is the name of the GCC program on my machine here at work (I don't control that) and I obviously place the real path to the JDK in that command. When I run my program, using the standard java HelloWorld, I get an error saying the following: Exception in thread "main" java.lang.UnsatisfiedLinkError: /home/mike/Desktop/libHelloWorld.so: /home/mike/Desktop/libHelloWorld.so: wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS64 (Possible causes: architecture word width mismatch) at java.lang.ClassLoader$NativeLibrary.load(Native Method) at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadLibrary0(ClassLoader.java:1778) at java.lang.ClassLoader.loadLibrary(ClassLoader.java:1674) at java.lang.Runtime.load0(Runtime.java:770) at java.lang.System.load(System.java:1003) at HelloWorld.<clinit>(HelloWorld.java:8) Could not find the main class: HelloWorld. Program will exit. I know I'm running a 32-bit JVM (and unfortunately, as of right now, I'm not allowed to get a 64-bit JVM). I tried telling GCC to compile in 32-bit mode using the "-m32" option, but we don't have (and again, can't get) what we need for that. Does this sound like a 32/64-bit conflict or something else?

• How to change TestNG dataProvider order

  Hi, I am running hundreds of tests against a large publishing system and would like to paralellize the tests using TestNG. However, I cannot find any easy way of doing this. Each test case instanciates an instance of this publisher, send some messages, wait for those messages to be published, then dump out the contents of the publish queues and compare against expected outcome. Doing this with so many tests (even if I paralellize using threads, still takes a very long time to complete (1 day or more)). We've found that in testing this sort of system, it's best to start up system once, run all tests to send their messages, wait for publish to do its thing, dump all outputs, and match outputs with tests and verify. For example, instead of the following: @Test public void testRule1() { Publisher pub = new Publisher(); pub.sendRule(new Rule("test1-a")); sleep(10); // wait 10 seconds pub.dumpRules(); verifyRule("test1-a"); } We wanted to do something like the following: @Test public void testRule1(bool sendMode) { if(sendMode) { this.pub.sendRule(new Rule("test1-a")); } else { verifyRule("test1-a"); } } Where you have a dataProvider run through all the tests with sendMode = true and then perform dumpAllRules() followed by running through all of the tests again with sendMode = false. The problem is, TestNG calls the same method twice, once with sendMode = true followed by sendMode = false. Is there anyway to accomplish this in TestNG? Thanks!

• Understanding LinkDemand Security on a webserver

  Hi, After deployment an ASP.Net application on a webserver, I get this error message by using code from a external assembly: "LinkDemand The type of the first permission that failed was: System.Security.PermissionSet The Zone of the assembly that failed was: MyComputer the error ". The assembly is include in the \bin folder and not in the GAC. I try to know what linkdemand exactly is and why this message will raised. But looking for more information, I don't get exactly the problem. I try also to add the PermissionSetAttribute on the class where the exception message happens: [System.Security.Permissions.PermissionSetAttribute(System.Security.Permissions.SecurityAction.LinkDemand, Name = "FullTrust")] Then the exception will be raised on another class of the assembly. And so on.. My questions ares: - what exactly is going wrong here? Is it true that I understand that .Net cannot check the code during Jit? - Is there maybe a security policy that block this (machine.config)? - Can I set the PermissionAttribute for all classes between a assembly?
