• Building Python 3.2.3 on redhat 5: missing _posixsubprocess

  I am trying to build Python3 on a RHEL 5.7 machine, I successful managed to build Python 3.2.2, with : # Install required build dependencies yum install openssl-devel bzip2-devel expat-devel gdbm-devel readline-devel sqlite-devel # Fetch and extract source. Please refer to http://www.python.org/download/releases # to ensure the latest source is used. wget http://www.python.org/ftp/python/3.2/Python-3.2.tar.bz2 tar -xjf Python-3.2.tar.bz2 cd Python-3.2 # Configure the build with a prefix (install dir) of /opt/python3, compile, and install. ./configure --prefix=/opt/python3 make But I am failing (?) with Python 3.2.3: Failed to build these modules: _posixsubprocess Is this a problem that should bother me ? How do I build it? I found this patch, but it's not included in sources Python 3.2.3 I obtained from the website ... Applying this patch on my sources, didn't solve the problem ... • Adjust Mac OS X's colors

  I downloaded an app several months ago for the Mac that enabled me to adjust the colors of the monitor to work with different light sources. There was a filter for daylight, incandescent, fluorescent, etc. After re-installing I can't seem to locate it again. Does anyone know this application? UPDATE Never mind, after all that Googling and asking here I found it. It's called Flux http://www.stereopsis.com/flux/ Highly recommended if you have any eye strain.

  I have a rails app on an old Ubuntu server I need to move onto a new machine. I haven't worked with ruby on rails so I don't really know anything about the structure of the app. I want to load this onto an Ubuntu 8.04 AMI on Amazon EC2 and am looking for any information regarding the migration process such as: Do I copy over the entire folder defined as the application root in the mongrel config (for ex: /u/apps/myapp/current) or just certain folders?   Based on many online sources, in serving static files, Apache2 will create new thread on every different connection... results in resource hungry But how about serving PHP through Apache2 (mod_php, MPM worker, etc)? Does apache will also open new thread like serving static files? (AFAIK, in nginx php-fpm, we can set the max thread, but I dont know how many connection per thread) I'm planning to use Apache2 in serving PHP, and hope it will be same as nginx PHP-FPM or even better in resource usage and performance.

• Can I enable discards on a LUKS-encrypted ssd drive in RHEL6 (and do I need to)?

  I have a RHEL 6.4 workstation, running on a LUKS-encrypted LV residing on a SSD. I found RedHat documentation stating that dm_crypt does not currently support TRIM passthrough, however I also found other sources that state the opposite (albeit for other distributions) and even that discards are not needed for recent SSD drives which use some sort of automatic garbage collection. So: 1) Can I enable TRIM/discards with my setup? 2) Do I need to, for optimal disk performance? Thanks for your thoughts.

• Getting ajaxterm to work on Debian Lenny

  I've been knocking my head out for a while on this one and have read many tutorials, but I just can't get this to work. Ajaxterm, is a webbased SSH client; once installed apt-get install ajaxterm and then enabling it with /etc/init.d/ajaxterm start I should be able to access the SSH terminal with http://mywebsite:8022/ But doing so only gives me a "Page not found", any suggestions? • What happened to my EEE PC keyboard?

  I was using my EEE PC 1000H running Windows XP and out of the blue, the keyboard stopped working - pressing keys does absolutely nothing. It does not appear to be a hardware issue, as I am able to enter BIOS configuration with no issues. I've tried: 'Safe mode' 'Last known good configuration' Reinstalling the generic keyboard driver Removing all power sources and holding down the power button, as suggested by popular forums. What could the problem be, and what could I try?

• Is virtualenv suitable for a production server?

  I'm planning to set up a Python app (Pyblosxom) on my server and considering to run it in its own virtualenv sandbox with --no-site-packages. I'm hoping that such a setup would be easily portable and maintainable over the years. However, I've only used virtualenv for development environments that recreate a certain server setup locally, and most sources about virtualenv seem to also mention virtualenv for such a use. Is there any drawback to running a Python app from a virtualenv on a live server?
