  • Difference left/right super button

    - by Erik Keemink
When I press my left super key the gnome shell appears and when I press the right super key it does not. Moreover pressing right super + T does open a terminal at once, but when using left super I have to press the t twice, when I press the t only once it is similar to just pressing the t without holding super left. This last point also occurs with other shortcuts that I defined (like super+L, super+E), but not with super+up/down/left/right. What I want is to press either super key to get the gnome shell and to use either super key in combination with T to open a terminal immediately (and similar with other shortcuts). I use Ubuntu 12.04 LTS and the gnome 3 shell.

  • [Kubuntu 14.04][Eclipse] (ADT) crashes at button OK from Project properties

    - by nouseforname
Since i upgraded to kubuntu 14.04, my Eclipse crashes at different situations. Mostly i can "simulate" it when going to project properties and press ok. Then it always crashes. My system: DISTRIB_ID=Ubuntu DISTRIB_RELEASE=14.04 DISTRIB_CODENAME=trusty DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION="Ubuntu 14.04.1 LTS" My Java: java version "1.8.0_05" Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.8.0_05-b13) Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 25.5-b02, mixed mode) My ADT Version: Android Development Toolkit Version: 23.0.0.1245622 I already tried to add this in adt-bundle-linux-x86_64/eclipse/configuration/configuration.ini org.eclipse.swt.browser.DefaultType=mozilla -Dorg.eclipse.swt.browser.DefaultType=mozilla Error: # # A fatal error has been detected by the Java Runtime Environment: # # SIGSEGV (0xb) at pc=0x00007fe049eb1718, pid=5964, tid=140601811232512 # # JRE version: Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (8.0_05-b13) (build 1.8.0_05-b13) # Java VM: Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (25.5-b02 mixed mode linux-amd64 compressed oops) # Problematic frame: # C [libgobject-2.0.so.0+0x19718] g_object_get_qdata+0x18 # # Core dump written. But the application appearance also is ugly. Beside that i get a lot of errors/warnings like that: (SWT:6148): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_closure_add_invalidate_notifier: assertion 'closure->n_inotifiers < CLOSURE_MAX_N_INOTIFIERS' failed or other GTK warnings from the particular design, not having theme-engine. Which actually doesn't cause any crahs it seems so far. So i have 3 options: accept crashes accept warnings (maybe the best choice) accept ugly design What can i do to solve this issue without changing the design settings?

  • Thread safe GUI programming

    - by James
I have been programming Java with swing for a couple of years now, and always accepted that GUI interactions had to happen on the Event Dispatch Thread. I recently started to use GTK+ for C applications and was unsurprised to find that GUI interactions had to be called on gtk_main. Similarly, I looked at SWT to see in what ways it was different to Swing and to see if it was worth using, and again found the UI thread idea, and I am sure that these 3 are not the only toolkits to use this model. I was wondering if there is a reason for this design i.e. what is the reason for keeping UI modifications isolated to a single thread. I can see why some modifications may cause issues (like modifying a list while it is being drawn), but I do not see why these concerns pass on to the user of the API. Is there a limit imposed by an operating system? Is there a good reason these concerns are not 'hidden' (i.e. some form of synchronization that is invisible to the user)? Is there any (even purely conceptual) way of creating a thread safe graphics library, or is such a thing actually impossible? I found this http://blogs.operationaldynamics.com/andrew/software/gnome-desktop/gtk-thread-awareness which seems to describe GTK differently to how I understood it (although my understanding was the same as many people's) How does this differ to other toolkits? Is it possible to implement this in Swing (as the EDT model does not actually prevent access from other threads, it just often leads to Exceptions)

  • Saving user details on OnSuspending event for Metro Style Apps

    - by nmarun
I recently started getting to know about Metro Style Apps on Windows 8. It looks pretty interesting so far and VS2011 definitely helps making it easier to learn and create Metro Style Apps. One of the features available for developers is the ability to save user data so it can be retrieved the next time the app is run after being closed by the user or even launched from back suspended state. Here’s a little history on this whole ‘suspended’ state of a Metro Style app: Once the user say, ‘alt+tab...(read more)

  • Returning Value of Radio Button Jquery [migrated]

    - by Jerry Walker
    I am trying to figure out why, when I run this code, I am getting undefined for my correct answers. $(document).ready (function () { // var answers = [["Fee","Fi","Fo"], ["La","Dee","Da"]], questions = ["Fee-ing?", "La-ing?"], corAns = ["Fee", "La"]; var counter = 0; var $facts = $('#main_ .facts_div'), $question = $facts.find('.question'), $ul = $facts.find('ul'), $btn = $('.myBtn'); $btn.on('click', function() { if (counter < questions.length) { $question.text(questions[counter]); var ansstring = $.map(answers[counter], function(value) { return '<li><input type="radio" name="ans" value="0"/>' + value + '</li>'}).join(''); $ul.html(ansstring); var currentAnswers = $('input[name="ans"]:checked').map(function() { return this.val(); }).get(); var correct = 0; if (currentAnswers[counter]==corAns[counter]) { correct++; } } else { $facts.text('You are done with the quiz ' + correct); $(this).hide(); } counter++; }); // }); It is quite long and I'm sorry about that, but I don't really know how tostrip it down. I also realize this isn't the most elegant way to do this, but I just want to know why I can't seem to get my radio values. I will add the markup as well if anyone wants.

  • HTML5 valid Google+ Button - Bad value publisher for attribute rel

    - by mrtsherman
I recently migrated my website from xhtml transitional to html5. Specifically so that I could make use of valid block level anchor tags. <a><div /></a>. When running validation I encountered the following error: Bad value publisher for attribute rel on element link: Keyword publisher is not registered. But according to this page, that is exactly what I am supposed to do. https://developers.google.com/+/plugins/badge/#connect My code: <link href="https://plus.google.com/xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx" rel="publisher" /> <a href="https://plus.google.com/xxxxxxxxxxxxxxx?prsrc=3" style="text-decoration:none;"> <img src="https://ssl.gstatic.com/images/icons/gplus-16.png" alt="" style="border:0;width:16px;height:16px;"/> </a> I can't figure out how to implement this in an html5 compliant way. Can anyone help?

  • Design Patterns for Coordinating Change Event Listeners

    - by mkraken
I've been working with the Observer pattern in JavaScript using various popular libraries for a number of years (YUI & jQuery). It's often that I need to observe a set of property value changes (e.g. respond only when 2 or more specific values change). Is there a elegant way to 'subscribe' the handler so that it is only called one time? Is there something I'm missing or doing wrong in my design?

  • Diagnosing Bootstrap 3 Glyphicon Button Icons Not Showing

    - by Paulb
I have a glyphicons in Bootstrap 3. They work very nicely here: latest Chrome latest Firefox latest Safari latest Explorer latest Android At one facility, the glyphicons don't show. The buttons come up blank. How do I troubleshoot? They are security sensitive there. I don't have systems or network access.. and am not in a position to request that. Troubleshooting with advanced tools isn't going to happen. Here's what I have access to: Internet Explorer 9 Behind a very secure firewall Sometimes, I think the glyphs not showing is the IE 9.. but my code should be addressing that. Sometimes, I think their firewall is blocking the CDN. Can I enter a URL into a browser to test if the CDN is there? Sometimes, I think my FB share and like buttons upset this facilty's firewall, and they tie the whole thing down. Any suggestions at how I begin to research this? Or maybe you have an outright idea for IE 9 and glyphs (though my code is very-very close to the demo's which work).

  • AD FS 2.0: Troubleshooting Event 364 and ThrowExceptionForHRInternal / NullReferenceException

    - by Shawn Cicoria
Ran into a situation today where after AD FS federation server was installed, configured and up & running, “all of a sudden” it stopped working. Turned out that another installer that affected the default web site, also seemingly affected the AppPools associated to all Applications under the Default Web site. By changing the “Enable 32-bit Applications” either through IIS admin or via command line appcmd set apppool /apppool.name:MyAppPool /enable32BitAppOnWin64:false Back to normal…

  • ubiquity "hangs" after hitting first "forward" button

    - by bumbling fool
I've been trying to install Ubuntu but, no matter what I try (wifi connected, wifi not connected, disk blank, disk prepartitioned...), it just "hangs" at the first window (pick your language) with a non-stop hourglass after hitting "forward". This is on a Stinkpad T42. Shouldn't ubiquity at least tell me what's going on? I tried to find a log but /var/log/installer* isn't present. Initiating ubiquity from command line doesn't provide any debug info either. Even when using --debug or other combinations.

  • Hobbyist programmer releasing software with a donate button

    - by espais
I'd like to start this with a disclaimer that I realize that a full, clear-cut answer should be sought out by a lawyer. I am more so curious about what other users of this community have done Say that I had a small program that I had developed for fun, that I wished to release to the public. I'll drop it out there with one of the various open-source licenses, and probably put it up on SourceForge or Git in case if anybody should ever want to fork/maintain/check out code. Also say that I wanted to accept donations for the project, with absolutely 0 expectation that people will send any money. However, if somebody donated in order to buy me a beer or a pizza for the work that they liked, I would accept gladly. The question, then, is what are the general requirements of accepting donations? Can it go into a personal account with no questions asked as a "gift," or do I need to setup an LLC to avoid any taxation issues? (US citizen here). Again, yes this should be lawyer discussed, but I also know that many projects that I see have the ability to donate, and assume that the community probably has a decent amount of experience in this regard.

I have tried all the links present in this forum, so please don't suggest these: sudo apt-get install --reinstall unity unity --reset pkill -f unity-applications-daemon None of those worked. I am facing this problem after upgrading to 12.04 LTS.
