I know a cookie can be shared across multiple subdomains using the setting <forms name=".ASPXAUTH" loginUrl="Login/" protection="Validation" timeout="120" path="/" domain=".mydomain.com"/> in Web.config. But how to replicate same thing on local machine. I am using windows 7 and IIS 7 on my laptop. So I have sites localhost.users/ for my actual site users.mysite.com localhost.host/ for host.mysite.com and similar.

• Tools required for a Web Development Project..

  Hi, I wanted to design a project in linux which could contain programming languages(C, perl, PHP, HTML, XML etc) basically a web based project. Why i have chosen to build on Linux is because it is Open Source, and lot many things can be automated through scripting languages, which in windows i don't know. So, i have installed linux on a virtual machine(Host-Windows 2007 & Guest Linux CentOS), CentOS(command line interface). Since i am a beginner, so I want to know what all tools can be used to facilitate and ease my development process. Some which i know are listed below, and request you to please share your experience on this. 1) Using Putty so that can access the Linux machine from anywhere within the network. 2) Since i want to develop on Linux, but want to use windows as developing platform. So have downloaded Eclipse Editor (C/PHP) on windows. But want to know how can i access linux files from here?? 3) Installed Samba, and still trying to figure out how can i access linux files remotely on Windows. 4) Please share your experience, as how can i ease my development process. and what all tools i can use..?? • Host hijacks USB printer from VirtualBox machine

  I have Ubuntu 9.1 running Windows XP in VirtualBox. Windows XP is a print server (there is no Linux driver for our printer). The printer is connected via USB and its USB filter is added to virtual machine settings. The problem is that every several hours Ubuntu tries to access the printer (trying to install it) and disconnects it from the virtual machine. The printer remains disconnected until I connect it again manually. I thought it is a problem with Windows power management but disabling sleep/standby in Windows didn't help. Please, advise.

• Psexec issue when running an application on a Windows Server 2008 R2 machine from a 2003 R2 machine

  I am trying to run an application on a Windows Server 2008 R2 machine from a Windows Server 2003 R2 machine using a batch file with the following line of code in a batch file: psexec \\nightmachine -u DOMAIN\User -p Password -i "C:\FilePath\Application.exe" argument1 argument2 The application fails to run correctly when started using psexec, but the application will run correctly if I have logged into the nightmachine with the same user and started it from its file path via cmd. I have been able to get hold of the error returned in the application from its log and the exception returned is the following: System.DllNotFoundException: Unable to load DLL 'rasapi32.dll': A dynamic link library (DLL) initialization routine failed. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x8007045A) After searching for that error code on the net, there are a lot of posts saying that this is caused by file corruption, but I cant see why that would be the case as the application will run normally when not being run from psexec. (the user is an administrator on both machines) Can anyone please help me on this? If any more information is needed to help solve this issue then please ask and I will do my best to post it.

  In my organization, the main server is Windows Small Business 2011. It uses a WMI service (I think) to get the Security and Update status of computers on the network. I have a Server 2008 virtual machine in VirtualBox with bridged network adapter. The SBS will not correctly get the status of, nor the operating system of, the Server 2008 VM. What settings do I have wrong / can I actually do this for a virtual machine in the first place? -- I do not know what further information might be needed, just ask and I will post.

• Remote desktop solution for controlling a remote OS X machine in Linux

  The "server" (the host I'm trying to connect to) is Snow Leopard. The "client" is Ubuntu 10.04. I want something like a remote desktop server running on OS X that I can connect to and control from the Linux machine. Something cheap or free would be best. Something that always runs on the OS X machine so that I never have to attach a monitor or a keyboard. I don't want to use VNC, because, well, VNC sucks over this network. Any ideas?

• OS X server VPN local ip

  Hi all, I have 10.6.2 server on the internet. I want to vpn into it to get access. I start VPN and it gives me an address in the range I have set 192.168.2.100-192.168.2.105. However the server itself does not have a local ip of 192.168.2.x so I cannot ping it or ssh into it or anything. The machine VPNing gets an ifconfig entry that looks like this: ppp0: flags=8051<UP,POINTOPOINT,RUNNING,MULTICAST> mtu 1280 inet 192.168.2.100 --> 70.72.xxx.xxx netmask 0xffffff00 Where I think it should get: ppp0: flags=8051<UP,POINTOPOINT,RUNNING,MULTICAST> mtu 1280 inet 192.168.2.100 --> 192.168.2.1 netmask 0xffffff00 I can't find anywhere to set the local vpn IP address. And I can't find a pptpd.conf file either. Any help is appreciated.

• SSL Certificate for local web server

  Is it at all possible to create a self-signed certificate for use on multiple machines on a local network which would stop the browser complaining it is not a trusted site? We have a product which is basically a computer running lighttpd to serve a web interface for configuring the computer (sort of how a router has a web interface). There can also be many of these machines running on the same network with dynamic IP's. What I basically want to do is enable SSL for extra security but I don't want people who are on the local network to be given a browser warning about the certificate not being trusted. Is this at all possible?

  I'm preparing a laptop to take with me while travelling, so all my user data is encrypted using EFS in case someone decides to steal it. I also need to set up a couple of local sites for development with IIS. If I turn off encryption on the wwwroot of a site, IIS can serve it just fine. However, I really would like to be able to use encryption here as well. I've tried these steps: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/243756 When I try to view the local site in IE, I get a login dialog as expected, but it doesn't accept my credentials, although this is the account I use to encrypt the served files. Has anyone tried this and got it to work?

• Yahoo toolbar and local sites (e.g. Intranet)

  We have local sites running on IIS in regular MS Windows network. User base has IE, FireFox and Chrome. Local sites are isolated by host headers and DNS record created for the common IP accordingly. This is a regular set-up. Users without Yahoo Toolbar type http://intranet and the sites resolves. Users with Yahoo toolbar type http://intranet and the toolbar goes off to search for this site in public domain. This is irrespective to whether the address is typed into the browser address bar or the toolbar. All versions of toolbar and IE are affected. I cannot see a setting on the toolbar to switch this "irritating" behaviour off and simply un-installing the toolbar is not an option. Any ideas?

  I am at a loss. I posted this on SO, but think this is probably a better place. I have searched high and low and don't know what to do. I am running SQL Server Web Edition on Server 2008, which only supports local databases. I am trying to connect to localhost, but when I test my connection, I get this error. The feature: "The edition of Reporting Services that you are using requires that you use local SQL Server relational databases for report data sources and the report server database." is not supported in this edition of Reporting Services. The DB was upgraded from SQL Express and when I select @@version, it says it's Web Edition. I've tried rebooting and that seemed to fix it, but only for a little while.

  I have one script to start a service on my ubuntu. I added it on boot machine using "# update-rc.d projeto defaults". But it still doesn't start with the boot machine. I think is because I am using other user to start the script "su - www-data -c ...". But I am not sure, because I run the update-rc.d command as root. When I execute the script from a terminal, it asks the password of the user www-data. Does anyone know what is happening? Thanks a lot! • rsync remote to local automatic backup

  Because all my work is stored on a remote server I would like to auto backup my server monthly and weekly. My server is running Centos 5.5 and while searching the web I'm found a tool named rsync. I got my first update manually by using this command in terminal: sudo rsync -chavzP --stats USERNAME@IPADDRES: PATH_TO_BACKUP LOCAL_PATH_TO_BACKUP I then prompt my password for that user and bob's my uncle. This backups the necessary files from my remote server to my local device but does somebody know how I can automate this? Like automatic running this script every sunday? EDIT I forgot to mention that I let direct admin backup the files I need and then copy those files from the remote server to a local server.

• Unable to ssh to a Linux VM after a day

  I have a machine running 4 VMs on it. There is one Fedora VM which is causing me some trouble. The IPs of the VMs are something like 10.100.100.* I have a Windows PC which is in the same network. It has an IP 10.100.25.77. When I reboot the Fedora VM, I am able to ping it from my Windows PC as well as use putty to ssh to it. The next day, I cant ping it or ssh from my Windows PC. However I can ping and ssh to the other VMs on the machine. If I ssh to one of the other VMs, I can ping and ssh to the Fedora VM. Next if I restart it, things get back to normal and I can access it without any issues. The IP of the VM doesn't change after rebooting and it is statically assigned I would like to know what is causing this and how to get it fixed. As a last resort, I am thinking of running a cron job to restart the VM every night, it is not a critical server, but will be generally used occasionally in the day time.

  I have created a Windows Server virtual machine, and this also automatically created a disk (VHD). Then I removed the vm, and I created a new vm from the same vhd: in this process I wasn't asked to supply any credentials. I am not able anymore to login (with rdp) to the new VM, the credentials that I supplied when creating the first machine don't work anymore. Any ideas why this happens? What credentials should I use?   I just setup virtual machines on one hardware with Vagrant (this is just a test environment, not production!). I want to use a Puppet to configure them and next try to setup OpenStack. I am not sure If I am understanding how this should look at the end.   Hi, I'm running Windows XP sp3 on my mac using bootcamp. Objective: I'd like to move this partition to a windows machine. This is what I tried: 1. create image using winclone 2. restore drive to disk partition on windows machine using paragon 3. reboot from new partition Results: it attempts to boot in XP (windows flag and progress bar load screen) but then gives me the old BSOD. safe mode just hangs while loading. (I then uninstalled KB977165 on a hunch, but that did nothing to help the issue.) Any ideas, advice, etc would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

  I have the following setup: a) a single-homed machine, A, that can see the Internet. b) other machines B, C, and D that cannot see the Internet. c) A, B, C, and D can see each other. d) all machines are running either RHEL 5.3 or Fedora 16. Question: Is it possible to have B, C, and D share the Internet connection with A somehow? Note, again, that machine A does not have a second NIC installed. (The solutions that I am finding on the Net assume A to be a dual-homed system!) Also, could you please recommend a set of book(s) or online resources for a current and in-depth coverage of iptables for people with only a basic knowledge of TCP/IP?

• Routing connections to passthrough a local machine

  Please tell me if what I'm trying to do is feasible. I have a router named "R" which is connected to WAN. R allows adding rules to the routing table. There are numerous of machines connected to the LAN port of R, they all have ip addresses 192.168.1.* assigned with DHCP on R. Among those machines, there's a machine C with ip address 192.168.1.100. I want all traffic of other machines in the subnet to pass-through machine C where some filtering and logging will be done. Is this possible? Is there a name for what I'm trying to do? • Simple local smtp server - minimal setup ubuntu

  What is the absolute, bare minimum, no-hassle, hopefully idiot-proof way of setting up a local smtp server? If you're going to say postfix, what are these alledgedly bare minimum, idiot proof steps to setting it up? I'm sort of amazed at how difficult it seems to find this anywhere. I need: a locally hosted smtp server that sends mail to the internet. no tls or saslauth or whatever. only allows mail to come from localhost. no relays. It seems like there should be some software package somewhere where you install, set up an account and then you have a local smtp server. I'm not a sysadmin. People say postfix is dead simple but maybe I'm doing it wrong, all the setup docs I see are quite complicated, I actually don't have a spare hour to spend debugging a mailserver. I just want to send mail to the internet. Is it really that hard?
