    So after several Advil's I think I need help I am trying to make a script that lets the user upload a .txt file, the file will look like this as an example EXT. The determined female reporter from the courthouse steps, MELINDA FUENTES (32), interviews Comandante Chitt, who holds a napkin to his jaw, like he cut himself shaving. MELINDA < Comandante Chitt, how does it feel to get shot in the face? > COMANDANTE CHITT < Not too different than getting shot in the arm or leg. > MELINDA < Tell us what happened. > COMANDANTE CHITT < I parked my car. A man of few words. > Ok, so based off of this what I want to do is this: The PHP script looks at the file and counts 35 white spaces, since all files will have the same layout and never differ in white spaces I chose this as the best way to go. for every 35 white spaces extract character 36 until the end of line. Then tally up $character++ so in the end the output would look like ----------------------------------- It looks like you have 2 characters in your script Melinda Commandante Chitt ----------------------------------- using PHP to select distinct names, and use the strtolower() to lower case the strings and ucfirst() to make the first letter upper-case thats my project, I'm at the stage where I'm going crazy trying to figure out how to count white-spaces and everything after that white space until the first white-space after the word IS a character name

  • Netty options for real-time distribution of small messages to a large number of clients?

    I am designing a (near) real-time Netty server to distribute a large number of very small messages to a large number of clients across the internet. In internal, go as fast as you can testing, I found that I could do 10k clients no sweat, but now that we are trying to go across the internet, where the latency, bandwidth etc varies pretty wildly we are running into the dreaded outOfMemory issues, even with 2 gigs of RAM. I have tried various workarounds(setting the socket stack sizes smaller, setting high and low water marks, cancelling things that are too old), and they help a little, but they seem to only help a little bit. What would some good ways to optimize Netty for sending large #s of small messages without significant delays? Also, the bulk of the message only consists of one kind of message that I don't particularly care if it doesn't arrive. I would use UDP but because we don't control the client, thats not really a possibility. Is it possible to set a separate timeout solely for this kind of message without affecting the other messages? Any insight you could offer would be greatly appreciated.

My calculation function return a number, unformated, and i'd like to separate thousands and hundreds by a white space ' '. I'm sure it's pretty easy for a regexp regular user... but for me...     A ToolStripComboBox is placed after a ToolStripButton and is folowed by another one, which is right-aligned. How do I best set up the ToolStripComboBox to always adjust its length to fill all the space available between the preceeding and the folowing ToolStripButtons? In past I used to handle a parent resize event, calculate the new length to set based on neighboring elements coordinates and setting the new size. But now, as I am developing a new application, I wonder if there is no better way.

    Yes, so I got the problem that if you type a long sentence with no space e.g eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee, it will break itself, but then now I would need to start typing some ugly non-breaking coding.     Looking for quick, simple way in Java to change this string " hello there " to something that looks like this "hello there" where I replace all those multiple spaces with a single space, except I also want the one or more spaces at the beginning of string to be gone. Something like this gets me partly there String mytext = " hello there "; mytext = mytext.replaceAll("( )+", " "); but not quite.

    I don't even know if a solution exists or not. Here is the problem in detail. You are a program that is accepting an infinitely long stream of characters (for simplicity you can assume characters are either 1 or 0). At any point, I can stop the stream (let's say after N characters were passed through) and ask you if the string received so far is a palindrome or not. How can you do this using less sub-linear space and/or time.

Now First I am finding the rows in that table like var rows = table.Descendants("tr"); then I find the cell data for each row like foreach(var row in rows) { string rowInnerText = row.InnerText; } That gives me the cell data.But with no spaces between them like NameAdressPhone No but I want the innertext like Name Address Phone No means where there is td tag I want to keep there one space between different column cell.

    I would like a web interface for a user to describe a one-dimensional real-valued function. I'm imagining the user being presented with a blank pair of axes and they can click anywhere to create points that are thick and draggable. Double-clicking a point, let's say, makes it disappear. The actual function should be shown in real time as an interpolation of the user-supplied points. Here's what this looks like implemented in Mathematica (though of course I'm looking for something in javascript):
