• Perl execution from command line question

  I replaced ActivePerl with Strawberry Perl on my WinXP last week. I found I must run my Perl script with the command of perl myperl.pl; otherwise I only need run myperl.pl before install Strawberry. How can I only run myperl.pl as before? I checked my environment configuration as below. • Random sort list with LINQ and Entity Framework in vb.net

  I've seen many examples in LINQ but i'm not able to reproduce the same result in vb.net. I have following code: Dim context As New MyModel.Entities() Dim rnd As New System.Random() Dim gardens As List(Of Tuin) = (From t In context.Gardens Where _ t.Approved = True And _ Not t.Famous = True _ Order By rnd.Next() _ Select t).ToList() But i receive an error when binding this list to a control. LINQ to Entities does not recognize the method 'Int32 Next()' method, and this method cannot be translated into a store expression. Any suggestion on how to get this to work?

If my suggestion is right, then how can I cancel these sequences?

  I get the following error long before I hit the breakpoint at Main(). System.Reflection.ReflectionTypeLoadException: Unable to load one or more of the requested types. Retrieve the LoaderExceptions property for more information. at System.Reflection.Module._GetTypesInternal(StackCrawlMark& stackMark) at System.Reflection.Assembly.GetTypes() at Microsoft.Tools.SvcHost.ServiceHostHelper.LoadServiceAssembly(String svcAssemblyPath) There is a suggestion that it might be a configuration error, but I don't see it when comparing to a similar, working example. How do I "Retrieve the LoaderExceptions property" when it happens this early? Thanks!

• How can I handle an empty namespace with XDocument.XPathEvaluate?

  I'm trying to use XDocument and XPathEvaluate to get values from the woot.com feed. I'm using ns: from the suggestion from VS 2010 XPath Navigator plugin. Any thoughts on how to handle this?

• Reading a plist utf-8 value as utf-16

  I'm working on an iphone app that needs to display superscripts and subscripts. I'm using a picker to read in data from a plist but the unicode values aren't being displayed corretly in the pickerview. Subscripts and superscripts are not being recognized. I'm assuming this is due to the encoding of the plist as utf-8, so the question is how do a convert a plist string encoding from utf-8 to utf-16 ? Just a little more elaboration: If I do this it displays properly at least in a textfield: NSString *equation = @"x\u00B2 + y\u00B2 = z\u00B2" However if I define the same string in a plist and try to read it in and assign it to a string and display it on a pickerview it just displays the the encoding and not the superscripts. @Matt: thanks for your suggestion the unicode is being escaped that is \u00B2 = \u00B2. Googling for "escaped values in plists" returned no useful results, and I haven't been able to use the keyboard cmd-ctrl-shift-+ to work. Any further suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!

I need to put them down on paper so I can relay my designs to others in my team. I was wondering what the best on-line gui mockup tool I could use? I have a lot of experience with Visio and I truly like it. I want a tool that would be web based so I could collaborate with others on the team.   Hi, I'm problem with defining a mouse over effect for my datatables. I have <a4j:form> <rich:dataTable id="dataTable"> ... </rich:dataTable> <rich:datascroller id="dataScroller" for="dataTable" /> </a4j:form> <rich:jQuery selector="#dataTable tr" query="mouseover(function(){jQuery(this).addClass('active-row')})"/> <rich:jQuery selector="#dataTable tr" query="mouseout(function(){jQuery(this).removeClass('active-row')})"/> which are working fine on the very first page. However if I use the datascroller to goto another page, the mouseover effect is gone. I've tried reRendering the table or the jQuery components, that didn't help with the problem at all. Any suggestion on how I can get this working? Thanks!

  I tried to be the most descriptive I could. Ok, so since I've never done anything like this before, I guess it's better to ask before starting at all to just don't get the whole process wrong. We have a report that has to be called from an ASP.NET application, it could be a simple button. Through the code-behind, I gotta pass in a paramater, render the report, and don't save it anywhere, just open it to the user, as a .pdf file so he could save or print it. So please, give me links or tips, I'm reading MSDN documentation right now... If you have any suggestion on other technologies, as for the report, I'd like to hear it, but it has to be called from ASP.NET. Thanks in advance!

  Hello, As per a suggestion on stackoverflow, to compare IPC on a single machine using a) sockets (TCP) on localhost to localhost b) using FIFOs (between Java and C) To answer (a), I used netcat to gauge transfer speed (91 MBytes/sec)[1] (b) Q: How can I test FIFO write speed using socat? My approach(where /tmp/gus is created using mkfifo on RHEL): dd if=/dev/zero of=/tmp/gus bs=1G count=1 but i get: 1073741824 bytes (1.1 GB) copied, 1.1326 seconds, 948 MB/s Does this mean writing to a FIFO ~10 times faster? Well, with this code I get only the fade-in step, since the UILabel suddenly disappear, then fades-in. Some suggestion? Thanks.

• Git checking out problem [fatal: early EOFs]

  Dear all, I'm running a Ubuntu (9.10) server with Git (latest from Ubuntu package manager) installed. Access to the Git is via SSH. On windows machines, I'm using Cygwin to push/pull code. I can push my project code onto the server but when I do a clone or pull, it returns a [fatal: early EOFs] error at about 75-80%. Upon further investigation, it seems like textual data has no issue when pulled/cloned but when the jar files and images are pulled from Git, the error will occur. Any suggestion/advice that can help to resolve this issue? Thanks in advance.

  I have a recursive query that returns an error when I run it; in other databases (with more data) I have not the problem. In my case this query returns 2 colums (ID_PARENT and ID_CHILD) doing a recursion because my tree can have more than one level, bit I wanna have only "direct" parent. NOTE: I tried to put OPTION (MAXRECURSION 0) at the end of the query, but with no luck. The following query is only a part of the entire query, I tried to put OPTION only at the end of the "big query" having a continous running query, but no errors displayed. • Python (Twisted) - reading from fifo and sending read data to multiple protocols

  Hi, Im trying to write some kind of multi protocol bot (jabber/irc) that would read messages from fifo file (one liners mostly) and then send them to irc channel and jabber contacts. So far, I managed to create two factories to connect to jabber and irc, and they seem to be working. However, I've problem with reading the fifo file - I have no idea how to read it in a loop (open file, read line, close file, jump to open file and so on) outside of reactor loop to get the data I need to send, and then get that data to reactor loop for sending in both protocols. I've been looking for information on how to do it in best way, but Im totally lost in the dark. Any suggestion/help would be highly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

  Is there any way to detect when the backspace/delete key is pressed in the iPhone keyboard on a UITextField that is empty? I want to know when backspace is pressed only if the UITextField is empty. Based on the suggestion from @Alex Reynolds in a comment, I've added the following code while creating my text field: [[NSNotificationCenter defaultCenter] addObserver:self selector:@selector(handleTextFieldChanged:) name:UITextFieldTextDidChangeNotification object:searchTextField]; This notification is received (handleTextFieldChanged function is called), but still not when I press the backspace key in an empty field. Any ideas? There seems to be some confusion around this question. I want to receive a notification when the backspace key is pressed. That's it. But the solution must also work when the UITextField is already empty.

• Linear Regression and Java Dates

  I am trying to find the linear trend line for a set of data. The set contains pairs of dates (x values) and scores (y values). I am using a version of this code as the basis of my algorithm. The results I am getting are off by a few orders of magnitude. I assume that there is some problem with round off error or overflow because I am using Date's getTime method which gives you a huge number of milliseconds. Does anyone have a suggestion on how to minimize the errors and compute the correct results?

But I feel that the answers recommended ( such as Tao and OpenTK) are not good enough because they are just a direct port from OpenGL, with no OOP design, and hard to use. What I'm looking for is a .Net OpenGL wrapper that is written in clear OOP principles, easy to use ( easy to apply textual and lighting, easy to debug etc), able to rotate the 3D diagram with mouse ( a feature that is critically missing from OpenGL and TAO), and the ability to export to other file formats ( such as dwg or dxf or Google Map file format). Any suggestion? Both Open source or commercial components would do.

• Microsoft Workflow - "Event cannot be delivered"

  I have strange problem. My application is using Windows Workflow Foundation. It is simple app that creates requests and then other presons accepts/denies these requests. Everything was working very fine until my client took application to other servers (app and db). From this time WF instances are created in DB but when app tries to fire event to WF instance it strikes exception: "Event "EventName" for instance id "instanceGUID" cannot be delivered". What went wrong? Any suggestion where to start find the problem?

• Instance validation error: '2' is not a valid value for QueryType. (web service)

  I have a web service that I am passing an enum public enum QueryType { Inquiry = 1 Maintainence = 2 } When I pass an object that has a Parameter of QueryType on it, I get the error back from the web service saying that '2' is not a valid value for QueryType, when you can clearly see from the declaration of the enum that it is. I cannot change the values of the enum because legacy applications use the values, but I would rather not have to insert a "default" value just to push the index of the enum to make it work with my web service. It acts like the web service is using the index of the values rather than the values themselves. Does anybody have a suggestion of what I can do to make it work, is there something I can change in my WSDL?

  When a user starts typing on the searchbox, the suggestion page returns the latest item from all collections matching that nama, plus other data. I'd like to show that item (along its image), and a link to "see all items from this collection".
