• Any serious problems when making an old java web app run on new IE 8 browser?

  I need make an quick estimation on project (not sure we got): It's an old banking CMS java web app: Server: jdk5, weblogic 9. Client: winXP, Ie6. It was design only for use with ie6 but now we need make it also run well on new client: ie8,ie7 on win7. I understand the most difference is the client: DOM and CSS. But my problem is we hasn't been worked with ie8, and I have not enough time to build an testing environment because our developing environment is not ready to make test (its remoting completely, and managed by another partner) Any experience or suggestion to help me weighing this task need will be welcomed.

• Innodb setting in xampp doesn't seem locate my.cnf file....

  I created a new mysql database and i want to use foreign keys with it... I googled and found out this... InnoDB is one of MySQL storage engines, it supports transactions, row-level locking, and foreign-keys. However, by default, InnoDB is not enabled by XAMPP. To enable it, locate the my.cnf configuration file (normally in C:/xampp/mysql/bin directory) and search for the following lines: # Comment the following if you are using InnoDB tables But the path C:/xampp/mysql/bin directory in my system doesn't seem to have such a file... • String comparison with a collation in javascript

  I use jquery.autocomplete, which uses a javascript regexp to highlight substrings in the list of suggestions that match the autocomplete key string. So if the use types "Beat" and one of the autocomplete suggestions the server returns is "The Beatles" then plugin displays that suggestion as "The Beatles". I'm trying to think of ways to make this work with string matching that isn't sensitive to accents, diacriticals and the rest. So if the user typed "Huske" and the server suggested "Hüsker Dü" then this would be displayed as "Hüsker Dü". The principle is the same as string comparison with specified collations such as in MySql or ICU, or with Oracle's sorts. In SphinxSearch a charset_table works for this. A collation such as utf8_general_ci would be ideal for my purposes.

• How to extend WPF hit testing zone for a Path object.

  Wpf hit testing is pretty good but the only method I found to extend the hit zone is to put a transparent padding area around your object. I can't find any method to add a transparent area arround a Path object. The path is very thin and I would like to enable hit testing if the user clicks near the path. I can't find any method to extend the path object with a transparent area like the image below : I tried to used a partially transparent stroke brush but I ran into the problem described here : http://stackoverflow.com/questions/1412833/how-can-i-draw-a-soft-line-in-wpf-presumably-using-a-lineargradientbrush I also tried to put an adorner over my line but because of WPF anti-aliasing algorithms, the position is way off when I zoom in my canvas and interfere with other objects hit-testing in a bad way. • Subversion core on a sharedhosting

  Hi! I've signed up for a shared hosting plan in bluehost and tried installing a subversion by following this instruction: bluehost forum svn install script all goes well at first even tried svnadmin create project_name and was a success but then when I traverse to project_name I got this error "svn: '.' is not a working copy" when I run svn info. I think I may have encountered an error on the compilation process, can't remember exactly but i think it has something to do with a ".so" file when I run the make && make install command , something about permission. Any help or suggestion is very much appreciated. Thanks!

• Automation of testing using JUnit

  Hi, i am trying to automate manual testing of modules in my project. We are dealing with IBM Websphere Message queue software. We have a trigger component written in core java which when executed polls for availability of message in the configured queue. Its an indefinite while loop that keeps the trigger component running. I have written test cases in JUnit to put message in the queue and now will i be able to start/stop the trigger component on demand? Invoking the trigger component keeps it running and i am not getting the control back to check the expected output. If i start it in thread then the log files to which the trigger component is supposed to update when processing the message is not getting updated. How can i resolve this situation.   I am trying to capture the cpu usage from the running process. For SunOS, I have below output process,10050,user1,218,59,0,1271M,1260M,sleep,58.9H,0.02%,java here the cpu % is at 11th field if we separate by comma(,). To get this value I am using below regex regex => q/^process,(?:.*?),((?:\d+)\.(?:\d+))%,java$/, but for the linux system I have below output. process,26190,user1,20,0,1236m,43m,6436,S,0.0,1.1,0:00.00,java, here the cpu usage is at 10th column What regex pattern should i use to get this value. Appreciate for any suggestion.

• Getting the battery current values for the Android Phone

  I am trying to collect power usage statistics for the Android G1 Phone. I am interested in knowing the values of Voltage and Current, and then able to collect statistics as reported in this PDF. I am able to get the value of Battery voltage through registering for an intent receiver to receive the Broadcast for ACTION_BATTERY_CHANGED. But the problem is that Android does not expose the value of current through this SDK interface. One way I tried is via sysfs interface, where I can view the battery current value from adb shell, using the following command $cat /sys/class/power_supply/battery/batt_current 449 But that too works only if the phone is connected via USB interface. If I disconnect the phone, I see the value of batt_current as '0'. I am not sure why the value of current reported is zero. It should be more than zero, right? Any suggestion / pointers for getting battery current value? Also please correct me if I am wrong.

• dbpedia auto-suggest labels

  Wikipedia has a auto-suggest feature on its search field. If you for instance type in "mars" it lists a few items including Mars, Marseille, Marsh. I am looking to implement something similar working off the latest DBpedia export (wikipedia in database form). If I do a search for all labels in the labels_en.nt file that DBpedia offer that begin with "mars" then, even if I remove ones that redirect on to others that are listed, I end up with a huge list. In trying to understand how wikipedia does this I noticed that I'm actually querying this URL which returns a JSON string. Now my problem is that I don't know how wikipedia narrows the list down. Perhaps it does so based on page popularity. The higher views/edits a page has the higher it goes in this suggestion box. If so, does DBpedia export this information?

• Remote C++ Development using SSH only inside Eclipse Environment

  How do you integrate Remote Systems Explorer and CDT plugin inside eclipse ? What I mean is that you can use Remote Systems Explorer (RSE) plugin to work on C++ code on a remote linux box inside Eclipse but when you try to compile, you basically run a shell command through SSH. The CDT plugin is unable to locate the remote system and off course the remote compiler. Is there a way to integrate both the plugins so that we can use the parsing / suggestion features of CDT for the remote system as well; and also features like remote compilation, remote debugging using SSH only. If this is not possible, then what is the closest open source alternative to the above problem.

• html select option tag closes itself due to a "/" character in the dynamic value (JSP, JSTL)

  <select id="ordersSelect" class="drop-down" onchange="somemethod()"> <c:forEach items="${orders}" var="order" varStatus="orderStatus"> <option value="${order.id}"> ${order.publicId} </option> </c:forEach> </select> I have the above peice of code in a JSP page, that receives a list of Orders and each order has some information, the particular information that I want to display in a SELECT field is the publicId. The problem is that, on display there is only one OPTION in the SELECT and the rest of the order's publicId s are displayed as normal text below the SELECT box and not an OPTION to select. I found out that the publicId actually contains a String like A10/0001/0 and that is the character "/" is most probably causing the problem. Any solutions/suggestion/ideas?

• performance issue in a select query from a single table

  Hi , I have a table as below dbo.UserLogs ------------------------------------- Id | UserId |Date | Name| P1 | Dirty ------------------------------------- There can be several records per userId[even in millions] I have clustered index on Date column and query this table very frequently in time ranges. The column 'Dirty' is non-nullable and can take either 0 or 1 only so I have no indexes on 'Dirty' I have several millions of records in this table and in one particular case in my application i need to query this table to get all UserId that have at least one record that is marked dirty. I tried this query - select distinct(UserId) from UserLogs where Dirty=1 I have 10 million records in total and this takes like 10min to run and i want this to run much faster than this. [i am able to query this table on date column in less than a minute.] Any comments/suggestion are welcome. my env 64bit,sybase15.0.3,Linux

• Make two page navigations on top ang bottom of a list

  I'm creating a simple PHP page that reads CSV file content and display some selected columns to users in pages Currently, I'm reading each line and display it immediately. Because of this method, I only know total of lines after finishing reading entire file( searching in file also). What I want is displaying two page navigations on the top and bottom of the list. Like this: Page 1|2|3|4 Field 1|Field 2|Field 3|Field 4|Field 5....|Field n Row1 Row2 .... Rown Page 1|2|3|4 After displaying all rows, bottom page nav, I used jquery function: insertBefore to insert another page navi to the top. Problems are: 1) Top page nav not displayed in IE8 but displayed ater pressing F5(worked in FF, Chrome). 2) Using insertBefore function, the top page nav is suddenly poppep up afer displaying the bottom one. It doesn't look naturally Any suggestion?

• What is the recommended toolchain for formatting XML DocBook?

  I've seen Best tools for working with DocBook XML documents, but my question is slightly different. Which is the currently recommended formatting toolchain - as opposed to editing tool - for XML DocBook? In Eric Raymond's 'The Art of Unix Programming' from 2003 (an excellent book!), the suggestion is XML-FO (XML Formatting Objects), but I've since seen suggestions here that indicated that XML-FO is no longer under development (though I can no longer find that question on StackOverflow, so maybe it was erroneous). Assume I'm primarily interested in Unix/Linux (including MacOS X), but I wouldn't automatically ignore Windows-only solutions. Is Apache's FOP the best way to go? Are there any alternatives?

• UserControl Behaviour on a Windows Form

  Hi, I have a usercontrol UC1 with a combobox and a button. From the constructor, after initializing all the controls, I am populating the combobox with an array of information brought from other class library. I have kept the UC1 on windows form. When I tried to open the form's designer I see some errors and a suggestion to rebuild to fix the errors. After searching over net I found that the logic of populating the combobox is the culprit. I changed the code with an additional check of null and the issue is fixed now. My question is, how am i able to see the same usercontrol seperatly in designer view, but not when i placed the UC1 on a form and trying to see the designer view for the form? The same combobox populating logic should affect the drawing of UC1 when I try to see it in designer view right? Thanks, AK.

• Outlook MAPI session exception when outlook interface is closed

  I'm developing a email sender that retrieve data from a database, build up a MailItem with the Outlook Interop and send it. My email sender is running by a windows service that is notified everytime there's some data to send. I'm logging on the MAPI session of Outlook without problem and everything seems to work. But... when someone open Outlook interface and then close, my service crash at the first attempt i call a SendAndReceive method, with an exception that report that the session is assigned to another thread. I'm googling around for hours and i'm listening to the application_quit event, raised by the interface closing, trying to logoff and logon again to the application...but i'm still falling in the same error. Where am i wrong?Any suggestion? Thank you in advance

• ComboBox's Selected Value Changed On Lost Focus in VB.NET

  I have a datagridview(dgv) with a DataGridViewComboBoxColumn(colLocation) colLocation.AutoComplete = False colLocation.HeaderText = "Stored to" colLocation.DataSource = DB.getLocation() colLocation.DisplayMember = "description" colLocation.ValueMember = "id" I added the colLocation to dgv. "descirption" contains Unicode characters. I can see the comboBox correctly and choose the item. The problem is when the comboBox lost the focus, the value is changed to first item of the comboBox. Any suggestion? Updated: I found out that the ComboBox doesn't change the data when the DisplayMember is in English characters. It changes only when the DisplayMember is in Unicode chracter.   Hi , I am looking at validation of some text boxes for somethings like required, minlength, max length, email etc... I am able to get examples that work fine on submit button on page. I want to do this validation on a button click which will only raise a ajax request and not submit of page. On internet all the sample is found was with submit button. Is there a easy way to change this code a little bit o make it work for non submit button click or any new jquery or java plugin to do the same. I am using the jquery.validation.js for now. This works with submit buttons. Any kind of help with suggestion or help is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

• What's a good bit of JS or JQuery for horizontally scrolling news ticker

  Hi, I am looking for a little bit of JQuery or JS that allows me to produce a horizontally scrolling "news ticker" list. The produced HTML needs to be standards compliant as well. I have tried liScroll but this has a habit of breaking (some content ends up on a second line at the start of the scroll), especially with longer lists. I have also tried this News Ticker but when a DOCTYPE is included the scrolling will jolt rather than cycle smoothly at the end of each cycle. Any suggestions are appreciated. Edit So thanks to Matt Hinze's suggestion I realised I could do what I wanted to do with JQuery animate (I require continuous scrolling not discrete scrolling like the example). However, I quickly ran into similar problems to those I was having with liScroll and after all that realised a CSS issue (as always) was responsible. Solution: liScroll - change the default 'var stripWidth = 0' to something like 100, to give a little space and avoid new line wrapping.
