  I got a strange problem, I never actually expirienced this before, here is the code of the server (client is firefox in this case), the way I create it: _Socket = new Socket( AddressFamily.InterNetwork, SocketType.Stream, ProtocolType.Tcp ); _Socket.Bind( new IPEndPoint( Settings.IP, Settings.Port ) ); _Socket.Listen( 1000 ); _Socket.Blocking = false; the way i accept connection: while( _IsWorking ) { if( listener.Socket.Poll( -1, SelectMode.SelectRead ) ) { Socket clientSocket = listener.Socket.Accept(); clientSocket.Blocking = false; clientSocket.SetSocketOption( SocketOptionLevel.Tcp, SocketOptionName.NoDelay, true ); } } So I'm expecting it hang on listener.Socket.Poll till new connection comes, but after first one comes it hangs on poll forever. I tried to poll it constantly with smaller delay, let's say 10 microseconds, then it never goes in SelectMode.SelectRead. I guess it maybe somehow related on client's socket reuse? Maybe I don't shutdown client socket propertly and client(firefox) decides to use an old socket? I disconnect client socket this way: Context.Socket.Shutdown( SocketShutdown.Both ); // context is just a wrapper around socket Context.Socket.Close(); What may cause that problem?

• Determine when a NSOpenPanel will close

  I'm trying to determine when an NSOpenPanel is closing before it actually closes. I need to do this so I can overlay another window with a screenshot of the open panel on top of it to be animated. Unfortunately, all the notifications that you seem to be able to access seem to fire AFTER the window's already been closed. This leads to a jarring stutter before you start your transition. I've tried: - using NSWindow delegate methods on the open panel (apparently, none of the NSWindow delegate methods work) - monitoring panel:userEnteredFilename:confirmed: (not called) - showing the dialog with a callback (callback happens AFTER the panel disappears)

  I am trying to display some rows from a database table based on choices submitted by the user. Two of my columns are called receipe name and ingredients(each field under ingredients can store a number of fruits). What I would like to do is, if a number of checkboxes are selected then the receipe name/s is displayed. • Graphics glitches in Visual Studio 2010

  I'm having graphics issues with Visual Studio 2010. When I open a solution only part of the UI renders. Entire sections like the solution explorer will be missing. This only happens after I've had Visual Studio running for a while and have opened/closed a variety of solutions. It "feels" like some sort of a GDI handle leak because the problem goes away once I reboot. I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate - 64 bit. I've updated my graphics drivers, installed the latest patches, etc. I can't find any postings about this on stackoverflow or doing a variety of Google searches. Any ideas?

• Ajax Request using jQuery in Rails

  Hi... I am sending an Ajax Request using jQuery. What happens is that I am getting an "405 Method Not Allowed" Error. I am just posting a form, which would get the detail from the form and insert it into the DB. Just the usual stuff.I am using WEBrick that comes as default with the rails package. • Compare system date with a date field in SQL

  I am trying to compare a date record in SQL Server with the system date. In my example the user first register with his name and date of birth which are then stored in the database. The user than logs into the web application using his name only. After logging in, his name is shown on the side where it says "Welcome "player name" using Sessions. What I am trying to show in addition to his name is a message saying "happy birthday" if his date of birth matches the system date. I have tried working with System.DateTime.Now, but what I think is that it is also comparing the year, and what I really want is the day and the month only. I would really appreciate any suggestion or help.   Hi all, I am working on an application that downloads images from a url. The problem is that only some images are being correctly downloaded and others are not. The problem is that when I am on a slow network connection (almost always 3G rather than Wi-Fi) some images are converted to null--not all of them, only some of them. Using a Wi-Fi connection works perfectly; all the images are downloaded and converted properly. Does anyone know why this is happening? Or better, how can I fix this? How would I even go about testing to determine the problem? Any help is awesome; thank you!

• interface builder breaks on dual display

  Hi, I frequently connect and disconnect my laptop from a secondary display. Additionally I work in a small group that uses svn to manage xib files. It seems that if you drag a UIView display into a secondary display in interface builder and save the xib then either disconnect that display or open it on a computer with a secondary display in a different postion (left v right of the screen for example) then the view can't be seen/closed/moved. I've found no work around other than attaching a secondary display in the same position. This can be a real pain. Has anyone found a solution to this? thanks.

  I have this script that drops the user to an IRB session when executed. All good, but when I use *nix pipes to get the input (e.g. with cat), the IRB session ends immediately. I could reduce the script (let's call it myscript.rb) to the following: require 'irb' if $stdin.stat.size 0 @text = $stdin.read else @text= "nothing" end ARGV.clear IRB.start When executed like: ruby myscript.rb, I end up in the IRB session (as expected). But (assuming foo.txt exists in the cwd): cat foo.txt | ruby myscript.rb will just print the IRB prompt and then the IRB session is closed (I'm being dropped to $bash). Any known workarounds or ideas? BTW: it has the same behavior on ruby 1.8.7 as well as on 1.9.2.

• Can't serve HTML5 video through PHP on Safari/Mac (5.0)

  I'm encountering a strange bug in Safari where, when I serve MP4 video through PHP (to obfuscate the file beneath the document root with a token-based authentication system), Safari for some reason fires the <video>'s onerror event, and the video never loads (I can't get any useful information out of the event object sent to onerror — everything is undefined). When I access the PHP script directly (i.e., the video is not embedded in a page), the video controls appear momentarily before flashing to a QuickTime question mark. When I access the MP4 file directly, it works as expected. What's bizarre is that the embedded video works perfectly in the latest version of Chrome for Mac. Here are the headers when accessed through PHP: Connection:Keep-Alive Content-Disposition:inline; filename="test.mp4" Content-Length:5558749 Content-Type:video/mp4 Date:Tue, 22 Jun 2010 01:24:25 GMT Keep-Alive:timeout=10, max=29 Server:Apache/2.2.15 (CentOS) mod_ssl/2.2.15 0.9.8l DAV/2 mod_auth_passthrough/2.1 FrontPage/5.0.2.2635 X-Powered-By:PHP/5.2.13 And here are the headers when test.mp4 is accessed directly: Accept-Ranges:bytes Connection:Keep-Alive Content-Length:5558749 Content-Type:video/mp4 Date:Tue, 22 Jun 2010 01:26:45 GMT Etag:"1c04757-54d1dd-489944c5a6400" Keep-Alive:timeout=10, max=30 Last-Modified:Tue, 22 Jun 2010 01:25:36 GMT Server:Apache/2.2.15 (CentOS) mod_ssl/2.2.15 0.9.8l DAV/2 mod_auth_passthrough/2.1 FrontPage/5.0.2.2635 The only differing headers are: Accept-Ranges (which I don't think is necessary), Etag, Last-Modified, Content-Disposition, and X-Powered-By. Not only can Chrome handle the PHP-served video fine, but when I use the same script to load the MP4 through a Flash player, it also works fine. I just can't figure out what Safari is choking on. EDIT: Also, when I change the content disposition to "attachment", Safari will download the MP4 file just fine.

• How can I control UISlider Value Changed-events frequncy?

  I'm writing an iPhone app that is using two uisliders to control values that are sent using coreBluetooth. If I move the sliders quickly one value freezes at the receiver, presumably because the Value Changed events trigger so often that the write-commands stack up and eventually get thrown away. How can I make sure the events don't trigger too often? Edit: Here is a clarification of the problem; the bluetooth connection sends commands every 105ms. If the user generates a bunch of events during that time they seem to que up. I would like to throw away any values generated between the connection events and just send one every 105ms. Then I get the location and it should remove the old annotations and add the new ones, instead I keep seeing the old annotations and the new ones are added anyway (let's say I receive 10 annotations each time, so it means that I have 20 on my map when I should have 10). What am I doing wrong?

  suppose, I use Tomcat as a web container. Is it true that once all the servlets found in a web-app/WEBAPPNAME are init(IALIZED) then every change of a Servlet's property will be seen to every session. So session 1 changes a property userName of a Servlet1 from "user1" to "user2" session 1 is closed. session 2 starts. It will see "user2" as the only value of Servlet1.userName property?? Any change of a Servlet's field will be seen to all subsequent sessions? Are servlets singletons, aren't they?

• Is there any real world reason to use throw ex?

  In C#, throw ex is almost always wrong, as it resets the stack trace. I just wonder, is there any real world use for this? The only reason I can think of is to hide internals of your closed library, but that's a really weak reason. Apart from that, I've never encountered in the real world. Edit: I do mean throw ex, as in throwing the exact same exception that was caught but with an empty stacktrace, as in doing it exactly wrong. I know that throw ex has to exist as a language construct to allow throwing a different exception (throw new DifferentException("ex as innerException", ex)) and was just wondering if there is ever a situration where a throw ex is not wrong.

  I have been reading about using Spring with Hibernate and I am really confused about session management. Hopefully someone can clear a few things up for me, First of all I have no idea how sessions are managed when using HibernateTemplate. Is a session opened and closed when you call a method Eg Save() on the template? When you use the find() method, are detached objects returned? I have read the Spring section on transactions but it mostly talks about handling exceptions. I was hoping to find some way of binding a hibernate session to a Spring transaction so that I can commit changes to hibernate objects when the transaction finishes. Is there a way to achieve this?

  I am looking for a community moderated way of managing/eliminating spam and offensive content. Functionality similar to StackOverflow and many other sites seems like a good way to go. Although I'm sure this could greatly vary based on specific needs, I am curious about the backend mechanism/algorithm --that is, has anyone had success using something like "3 strikes and you're out" -- the flagged post is automatically closed/deleted after 3 reports by users with the required credentials.   I'm unable to insert the DateTime into my database. Am i writing the statement wrongly?
