• Login screen using user custom control

  Hi, I have followed some advices I got here today and would need a bit more help now: I have an user control with login logic. In mainForm I am using this: private void Form1_Load(object sender, EventArgs e) { LoginScreen login = new MainMenu(); login.Parent = this; login.Dock = DockStyle.Fill; login.Show(); } But I guess it is not modal and thus does not stop the original Form application. Sure I would need the main Form to do not continue until the login form is closed (and login sucessfull). Would using an event correct? Let login object to raise an event that login was successfull and let the MainForm handle it - run the app?

• How should I initialize jQuery?

My question is what is the difference of the two ( except on how it looks ). Which one is more proper to use?. Can you give me some pro's and con's for each? Is there also another way of doing this? • Trying to change img src if another element is visible with jQuery

  I have a div ("panel" class) on my page that toggles open/closed on the click of a paragraph element ("flip" class), which has an image inside of it. Here's the HTML: <div class="panel">Contact info</div> <p class="flip"><img src="images/contactExpand.png" />Expand</p> And the jQuery: $(".flip").click(function(){ $(".panel").slideToggle("slow"); }); Everything works fine so far, but I want the image src to change to "contactCollapse.png" when the panel div is visible. • Boost ASIO read X bytes synchroniously into a vector

  Hey, I've been attempting to write a client/server app with boost now, so far it sends and receives but I can't seem to just read X bytes into a vector. If I use the following code vector<uint8_t> buf; for (;;) { buf.resize(4); boost::system::error_code error; size_t len = socket.read_some(boost::asio::buffer(buf), error); if (error == boost::asio::error::eof) break; // Connection closed cleanly by peer. else if (error) throw boost::system::system_error(error); // Some other error. } And the packet is bigger then 4 bytes then it seems it keeps writing into those 4 bytes until the entire packet has been received, however I want it to fetch 4 bytes, then allow me to parse them, and then get the rest of the packet. Can anyone provide me with a working example, or at least a pointer on how to make it work properly ? Regards, Xeross

• What approach should be suitable for user authentification in simle client/server app

  My previous question was closed so I will be more specific. I need to create an application, desktop one written in C#, that will ask for user credentials and after verification opens the GUI allowing to work with DB (black box for users). It should be used from everywhere, not LAN or SQL domain. I assume I would need to do the following: Create a client and a server applications that will deal with authentification. That would mean a lot of socketing stuff.. Once the user is verified, the client queries would be sent to database (client-server-DB). The server would need to send the DB data sets back to the client. As you can see, this is just my guess but I have no idea whether its too complicated or completely wrong. The main thing is that it must be desktop app (not web based one) and accessible from everywhere. I am interested in main points how to design the system and will be extremely grateful for that.

• Access startup form locked GUI

  I just had an interesting experience with a startup form in MS Access 2010. I designed a login form and when I thought I was done I set my startup form to be the login form I'd just created. I then closed Access and reopened it but my login form did not appear. Instead the whole GUI was locked. I cannot click on anything. My form was working during my tests before I set it as a startup form and reloaded Access. How can I either remove my form as a startup object or get the use of my GUI back?

  I'm working on a bit of a project in python. I have a client and a server. The server listens for connections and once a connection is received it waits for input from the client. The idea is that the client can connect to the server and execute system commands such as ls and cat.   I need to search the history of a file in a git repository to find a line that is gone. The commit message will not have any relevant text to search on. What command do I use? Further details: this is the history of my todo list out of our non-stellar task tracking software. I've been keeping it for two years because there's just not enough information kept for me in the software. My commit messages usually have only the task ids, unfortunately, and what I need to do is find a closed task by subject, not by number. Interestingly, this popup remains open and at the same place even when we navigate from one webpage to another. How can this be done? It doesn't look as though it's different page.   I am working on a project where I need to embed a web server into my C# application so the application could display it's status via HTTP. I suppose I'll want to configure it through the http also. I am looking for an open-source library written in C# and with a licensing scheme that will allow me to link it into my existing closed source code (LGPL). Any suggestions of specific products or where to look first? It would be great if that product could have some kind of scripting, at least templates. All html output would go from the application, only resources would be stored on the disk (images, icons, ...) EDIT: I would like it to run under .NET 2.0, however.

• Saving a modified object from ASP.NET MVC View Using Entity-Franework 4

  I retrieve an object graph from DB using EF4. The context is closed as soon as the data retrieve and the data passes to the controller, and then to the view. in the view the data is modified, and then the controller gets it back. From the controller I run Repository.Update(MyEmp); and in my repository the code goes: using (var context = new mydb()) { if (myEmp.ID != 0) // Checking if it's modified or new { context.Emp.Attach(MyEmp); int result = context.SaveChanges(); return myEmp.ID; } } The problem - once attached, the object entityState goes to unchanged, and not modified, and of course - nothing is saved to the database. What am I doing wrong ?

• Application window sent behind other windows on closing different thread (C#)

  I'm writing a Windows Forms Application in C#.NET On startup, the application displays a splash screen which is running in a separate thread. Whilst the splash screen is showing, the main application is initialising. Once the main application has finished initialising, the main form of the application is displayed, and the splash screen still shows over the top. Everything so far is as expected. Then, the Splash screen is closed, which causes that thread to exit. For some reason, at the point, the main application windows gets sent behind all other open Windows, notably the Windows Explorer window where you clicked the .exe file to run the application in the first place! What could be causing the windows to suddenly jump "behind" like this?

• svn update overwrite local copy - can I retrieve local copy?

  Hi: So I was editing a file on my local machine and I was ready to commit to the repository except that instead of running the svn commit, I ran svn update. Is there any way I can retrieve the changes that I had? I was working on a tex file in vim and I had closed the file before running svn update. Thanks. EDIT: I'm sorry - I completely was worried for nothing (project deadline in 30 mins and I thought I deleted all my changes). I realize that when I run svn update, it doesn't rewrite the local changes but tries to merge the files if there are no conflicts. Can someone tell me how to close or remove this post? Thanks.

  Hello all, Is there something simpler than the following. I am trying to make a GET request to a PHP script and then exit the current script. I think this is a job for CURL but is there something simpler as I don't want to really worry about enabling the CURL php extension? • Can one thread open a socket and other thread close it?

  I have some kernel threads in Linux kernel, inside my KLM. I have a server thread, that listens to the channel, Once it sees there is an incoming connection, it creates an accept socket, accepts the connection and spawns a child thread. It also passes the accepted socket to the child kernel thread as the (void *) argument. The code is working fine. I had a design question. Suppose now the threads have to be terminated, main and the child threads, what would be the best way to close the accept socket. I can see two ways, 1] The main thread waits for all the child threads to exit, each of the child threads close the accept sockets while exiting, the last child thread passes a signal to the main thread for it to exit . Here even though the main thread was the one that created the accept socket, the child threads close that socket, and they do this before the main thread exits. So is this acceptable? Any problems you guys forsee here? 2] Second is the main thread closes all the accept sockets it created before it exits. But there may be a possibility(corner case) that the main thread gets an exception and will have to close, so if it closes the accept sockets before exiting, the child threads using that socket will be in danger. Hence i am using the first case i mentioned.Let me know what you guys think?

The problem I have is that I cannot get form1 to show after form2 closes.   I would like to perform updates to a MySQL database using two separate classes (that do different things) -- one doing so every 10 seconds, and the second every minute. I have a few gaps in my Java knowledge and I'm wondering what the best way to achieve it is. Importantly, if connectivity to the database is lost, I need reconnection attempts to occur indefinitely, and I'm guessing the use of Prepared Statements will make queries more efficient. Should the connection to the database be left open all the time or closed between the updates being run? Maybe I also need to think about clearing objects/resources out of memory if the class instances are going to be run indefinitely.

  How do I set the redeliveryPolicy in ActiveMQ on a Queue? 1) In the doc, see: activeMQ Redelivery, the explain that you should set it on the ConnectionFactory or Connection. But I want to use different value's for different Queue's. 2) Apart from that, I don't seem to get it work.
