    I'd just like to know if it's advised to return from a method within a @synchronized block? For example: - (id)test { @synchronized(self) { if (a) return @"A"; else return @"B"; } } As opposed to: - (id)test { NSString *value; @synchronized(self) { if (a) value = @"A"; else value = @"B"; } return value; } This sample is rather simplistic, but sometimes in a complex method it would make things simpler to be able to return from within a @synchronized block.

  • How to later assign value to optional attribute of NSManagedObject in a NSManagedObjectModel having

    I am using coredata framework. In my NSManagedObjectModel i am using three entities that are Class, Student and Score where class and student have one-to-many & inverse relationship and Student and Score have also inverse but one-one relationship. Score entity has all optional attributes and having default '0' decimalVaue, which is not assigned at the time new Student is added. But later i want to assign them score individually and also to particular attribute not all of score attributes in a go. I am able to create and add Students to particular Class but dont have any idea how to call particular student and assign them score. For example I want to assign Score'attribute "dribbling" [there are many attributes like "tackling"] a decimal value to Student "David" of Class "Soccer" ,how i can do that? Thanks in advance for any suggestion.

  • NSString stringWithContentsOfFile failing with what seems to be the wrong error code

    Hello. I'm trying to load a file into a string. Here is the code I'm using: NSError *error = nil; NSString *fullPath = [[NSBundle mainBundle] pathForResource:filename ofType:@"html"]; NSString *text = [NSString stringWithContentsOfFile:fullPath encoding:NSUTF8StringEncoding error:&error]; When passed in @"about" as the filename, it works absolutely fine, showing the code works. When passed in @"eula" as the filename, it fails with 'Cocoa error 258', which translates to NSFileReadInvalidFileNameError. However, if I swap the contents of the files over but keep the names the same, the other file fails proving there is nothing wrong with the filename, it's something to do with the content. The about file is fairly simple HTML but the eula file is a massive mess exported from Word by the legal department. Does anyone know of anything inside a HTML file that could cause this error to be raised? Much thanks, Sam

    Hi, In iOS 4.0 and later is there a way to segment a CGImage without loading the entire image into memory? What I am attempting to do is * programmatically* segment an image for use in a CATiledLayer application using large images, but I don't want to take up the memory involved in loading the full image. Also, is there a way to load that (or any) segment at a particular resolution, so if we are zoomed out from the image we can load that tile at a low level of detail, thus saving memory.     I tried looking up other issues but couldn't find anything to match so here goes: I'm trying to display text in the table view so I use this bit of code: // StockData is an object I created and it pulls information from Yahoo APIs based on // a stock ticker stored in NSString *heading NSArray* tickerValues = [heading componentsSeparatedByString:@" "]; StockData *chosenStock = [[StockData alloc] initWithContents:[tickerValues objectAtIndex:0]]; [chosenStock getData]; // Set up the cell... NSDictionary *tempDict = [chosenStock values]; NSArray *tempArr = [tempDict allValues]; cell.textLabel.text = [tempArr objectAtIndex:indexPath.row]; return cell; This is all under cellForRowAtIndexPath When I try to release the chosenStock object though I get this error: [CFDictionary release]: message sent to deallocated instance 0x434d3d0 Ive tried using NSZombieEnabled and Build and Analyze to detect problems but no luck thus far. Ive even gone so far as to comment bits and pieces of the code with NSLog but no luck. I'll post the code for StockData below this. As far as I can figure something is getting deallocated before I do the release but I'm not sure how. The only place I've got release in my code is under dealloc method call.     i have a problem is i got UItabbarController it contain 3 Tabbars each tabbar need to create own UINavigationController for them? in IB it can only link UINavigationController to 1 navigationcontroller of tabbar only. it can't multiple link. how can i resolve for it. i want to hide and unhide my toolbar. i think it it a bad idea if i must create 3 uinavigationcontroller instance variable for each tabbar. how can i reslove this issue?

  • Storing and loading a subtitle of an annotation with NSUserDefualts

    Happy new year everybody! Basically, what I try to do is to save a subtitle to an annotation when the application terminates. When the application starts again I want this stored subtitle to show up in the callout of the annotation again. What am I doing wrong?
