  • ASP.NET MVC Model Binding into a List

    In my ASP.NET MVC site, part of a feature allows the user to enter the hours when a certain venue is open. I've decided to store these hours in a VenueHours table in my database, with a FK-to-PK relationship to a Venues table, as well as DayOfWeek, OpeningTime, and ClosingTime parameters. In my View, I want to allow the user to only input the times they know about; in other words, some days may not be filled in for a Venue. I'm thinking of creating checkboxes that the user can check to enable the OpeningTime and ClosingTime fields for the DayOfWeek that the checkbox belongs to. My question relates to how to pass this information to my HttpPost Controller Action. As I know the maximum amount of Days that can be passed in (7), I could of course just write 7 nullable VenueHour parameters into my Action, but I'm sure there's a better way. Can I somehow bind the View information into a List that is passed to my Action? This will also help me if I run into a scenario where there is no limit to how much information the user can fill in.

  • Custom CheckBoxList in ASP.NET

    Since ASP.NET's CheckBoxList control does not allow itself to be validated with one of the standard validation controls (i.e., RequiredFieldValidator), I would like to create a UserControl that I can use in my project whenever I need a checkbox list that requires one or more boxes to be checked. The standard CheckBoxList can be dragged onto a page, and then you can manually add <asp:ListItem> controls if you want. Is there any way I can create a UserControl that lets me manually (in the markup, not programmatically) insert ListItems from my page in a similar manner? In other words, can I insert a UserControl onto a page, and then from the Designer view of the Page (i.e., not the designer view of the UserControl), can I manually add my ListItems like so: <uc1:RequiredCheckBoxList> <asp:ListItem Text="A" value="B"></asp:ListItem> <asp:ListItem Text="X" value="Y"></asp:ListItem> </uc1:RequiredCheckBoxList> If a UserControl is not the appropriate choice for the end result I'm looking for, I'm open to other suggestions. Please note that I am aware of the CustomValidator control (which is how I plan to validate within my UserControl). It's just a pain to write the same basic code each time I need one of these required checkbox lists, which is why I want to create a re-usable control.

  • When does the .NET FormAuthentication ticket get checked and how do I tap into this event?

    Hello everyone - We are attempting to integrate an ASP.NET MVC site with our client's SSO system using PingFederate. I would like to use the built in FormsAuthentication framework to do this. The way I've gone about it so far is: Set up my Web.config so that my FormsAuthentication LoginURL goes to my site's "BeginAuthentication" action on a "Security" controller. From this action, I set up some session variables (what URL was being accessed, for example, since Ping won't send this info back to me), and then redirect to our client's login page on an external site (www.client.com/Login for example). From here, the authentication takes place and a cookie is generated on the same domain as the one that our application is running on which contains the unique identifier of the authenticated user, I've set it up so that once this happens, the Ping server will redirect to my "EndAuthentication" action on my "Security" controller. In this action, I call my membership class's "ValidateUser" method which takes this unique identifier from the cookie and loads in the user on our application that this ID refers to. I save that logged in user in our Session (Session["LoggedInAs"], for example) and expire the cookie that contains the id of the authenticated user that the SSO system provided for me. All of this works well. The issue I'm wondering about is what happens after our user has already authenticated and manually goes back to our client's login page (www.client.com/login) and logs in as another user. If they do that, then the flow from #2 above to number 3 happens as normal - but since there already exists an authenticated user on our site, it seems as though the FormsAuthentication system doesn't bother kicking off anything so I don't get a chance to check for the cookie I'm looking for to login as this new user. What I'd like to do is, somewhere in my Global.asax file (probably FormsAuthenticate_OnAuthenticate), check to see if the cookie that the SSO system sends to me exists, and if so, sign out of the application using FormsAuthentication.SignOut(). Another issue that seems to be related is that if I let my Session expire, the FormsAuthentication still seems to think I am authenticated and it lets me access a page even though no currently logged in user exists in my Session, so the page doesn't render correctly. Should I tap into the Session_End event and do FormsAuthentication.SignOut() here as well? Basically, I want to know when the authentication ticket created by System.Web.Security.FormsAuthentication.SetAuthCookie(..) gets checked in the flow of a request so that I can determine whether I need to SignOut() and force revalidation or not.   • Need help with creating complex UITableView items (like the Settings app).

    I hoping to create a custom Settings view, similar to the Settings application, but with more control over the UI and access to some settings (i need to lock some of the settings). Obvously, there are a variety of UI elements mixed in each row of application's UITableView. For example, the 'Airplane Mode' setting shows a UISwitch, while the 'Wi-Fi' setting has a text value adjacent to the disclosure symbol (''). Further complicating matters, is the grouping of these settings. I have some general questions about the approach I should take: Seems like i need to save the name of the setting, its current value, its grouping, and the type of UI element(s) needed to modify its value. i would like to make use [NSUserDefault standardUserDefaults], but not have these settings appear in the Settings application. I'm guessing that I will need to create my own settings-persistence class. is it better to build each one of these complex UI-element combinations in code or to create a series of custom views based on the UITableViewCell and load the appropriate one? i'm guessing the latter. some of the setting require that i load another view to select its value. assuming that the application is based on the Utility pattern, should the SettingsView manage the navigation stack, rather than having the app delegate do so?   • Zend Framework how to echo value of SUM query

    Hello, I created a query for the zend framework, in which I try to retrieve the sum of a column, in this case the column named 'time'. This is the query I use: $this->timequery = $this->db_tasks->fetchAll($this->db_tasks->select()->from('tasks', 'SUM(time)')->where('projectnumber =' . $this->value_project)); $this->view->sumtime = $this->timequery; Echoing the query tells me this is right. But I can't echo the result properly. Currently I'm using: echo $this->sumtime['SUM(time)']; Returning the following error: Catchable fatal error: Object of class Zend_Db_Table_Row could not be converted to string in C:\xampp\htdocs\BManagement\application\views\scripts\tasks\index.phtml on line 46 Line 46 being the line with the echo in my view. I've been searching now for two days on how to figure this out, or achieve the same result in a different way. Tried to serialize the value, but that didn't work either. Is there somebody who knows how to achieve the total sum of a database column? Any help is greatly appriciated! note: Pretty new to zend framework...

  • UIImagePickerController Memory Leak

    I am seeing a huge memory leak when using UIImagePickerController in my iPhone app. I am using standard code from the apple documents to implement the control: UIImagePickerController* imagePickerController = [[UIImagePickerController alloc] init]; imagePickerController.delegate = self; if ([UIImagePickerController isSourceTypeAvailable:UIImagePickerControllerSourceTypeCamera]) { switch (buttonIndex) { case 0: imagePickerController.sourceType = UIImagePickerControllerSourceTypeCamera; [self presentModalViewController:imagePickerController animated:YES]; break; case 1: imagePickerController.sourceType = UIImagePickerControllerSourceTypePhotoLibrary; [self presentModalViewController:imagePickerController animated:YES]; break; default: break; } } And for the cancel: -(void) imagePickerControllerDidCancel:(UIImagePickerController *)picker { [[picker parentViewController] dismissModalViewControllerAnimated: YES]; [picker release]; } The didFinishPickingMediaWithInfo callback is just as stanard, although I do not even have to pick anything to cause the leak. Here is what I see in instruments when all I do is open the UIImagePickerController, pick photo library, and press cancel, repeatedly. As you can see the memory keeps growing, and eventually this causes my iPhone app to slow down tremendously. As you can see I opened the image picker 24 times, and each time it malloc'd 128kb which was never released. Basically 3mb out of my total 6mb is never released. This memory stays leaked no matter what I do. Even after navigating away from the current controller, is remains the same. I have also implemented the picker control as a singleton with the same results. Here is what I see when I drill down into those two lines: Any help here would be greatly appreciated! Again, I do not even have to choose an image. All I do is present the controller, and press cancel. Update 1 I downloaded and ran apple's example of using the UIIMagePickerController and I see the same leak happening there when running instruments (both in simulator and on the phone). http://developer.apple.com/library/ios/#samplecode/PhotoPicker/Introduction/Intro.html%23//apple_ref/doc/uid/DTS40010196 All you have to do is hit the photo library button and hit cancel over and over, you'll see the memory keep growing. Any ideas? Update 2 I only see this problem when viewing the photo library. I can choose take photo, and open and close that one over and over, without a leak.

    Hi, I am really missing heavily the ability to test Views independently of controllers. The way RSpec allows to do it. What I want to do is to perform assertions on the rendered view (where no controller is involved!). In order to do so I should provide required Model, ViewData and maybe some details from HttpContextBase (when will we get rid of HttpContext!). So far I have not found anything that allows doing it. Also it might heavily depend on the ViewEngine being used. List of things that views might contain are: Partial views (may be nested deeply). Master pages (or similar in other view engines). Html helpers generating links and other elements. Generally almost anything in a range of common sense :) . Also please note that I am not talking about client-side testing and thus Selenium is just not related to it at all. It is just plain .NET testing. So are there any options to actually do the testing of views? Thanks, Dmitriy.

    I was reading this page and I found the following statement: MVC in Java Server Pages Now that we have a convenient architucture to separate the view, how can we leverage that? Java Server Pages (JSP) becomes more interesting because the HTML content can be separated from the Java business objects. JSP can also make use of Java Beans. The business logic could be placed inside Java Beans. If the design is architected correctly, a Web Designer could work with HTML on the JSP site without interfering with the Java developer. Interestingly in my textbook I pulled the following quote: In the MVC architecture... the original request is always handled by a servlet. The servlet invokes the business logic and data access code and creates beans to represent the results (that’s the model). Then, the servlet decides which Java Server Page is appropriate to present those particular results and forwards the request there (the JSP is the view). The servlet decides what business logic code applies and which JSP should present the results (the servlet is the controller). The two statements seem slightly contradicting. What is the best way to use beans: should we place business logic in them or should we only place results in them? Are there ways in which beans are inadequate for representing a model?

  • C# WPF XAML Problem with icon in GridViewColumn

    I've created a ListView with a GridView component in it. Now trying to fill one of the cells with an icon (PNG) like in the code sample below (save_icon.png): <ListView.View> <GridView> <GridViewColumn Header="Date" Width="Auto" DisplayMemberBinding="{Binding Date}" /> <GridViewColumn Header="Time" Width="Auto" DisplayMemberBinding="{Binding Time}" /> <GridViewColumn Header="FriendlyName" Width="Auto" DisplayMemberBinding="{Binding FriendlyName}" /> <GridViewColumn Width="Auto"> <Image Source="save_icon.png" /> </GridViewColumn> </GridView> </ListView.View> Visual Studio gives me an error on the line, where i put the icon into the column (ERROR: "Error 35: The file save_icon.png is not part of the project or its 'Build Action' property is not set to 'Resource'.") I added the icon to the project as a resource and when i start the app, everything works (the icon appears at the right place). But the WPF designer window can't be reloaded and i'm not able to see changes in the designer, when i change the XAML code. Can somebody explain this error or am i doing something wrong? Any advice for what's happening and how to correct it?

    I have a TableView and I wish to be able to press several cells one after the other and have messages appear. At the moment the cells are often unresponsive. I found some coed for a similar problem someone was kind enough to post, however, although he claimed it worked 100% it doesn't work for me. The app won't even build. I also get some faults: request for member 'visibleCells' in something not a structure or a union. incompatible type for argument 1 of pointInsideWithEvent, expression does not have a valid object type and similar. I must admit I'm not so good at reading other people's code but I was wondering whether the problems here are obvious and if so if anyone could give me a pointer it would be greatly appreciated.

I have a DropDownList on one of my Razor Views, and I wish to display a list of Full Names, for example Tom Jones Michael Jackson James Brown In my Controller I retrieve a List of User Objects, then select the FirstName and LastName of each User, and pass the data to a SelectList. List<User> Requesters = _userService.GetAllUsersByTypeIDOrgID(46, user.organisationID.Value).ToList(); var RequesterNames = from r in Requesters let person = new { UserID = r.userID, FullName = new { r.firstName, r.lastName } } orderby person.FullName ascending select person; viewModel.RequestersList = new SelectList(RequesterNames, "UserID", "FullName"); return View(viewModel); In my Razor View I have the following @Html.DropDownListFor(model => model.requesterID, Model.RequestersList, "Select", new { @class = "inpt_a"}) @Html.ValidationMessageFor(model => model.requesterID) However, when I run the code I get the following error At least one object must implement IComparable. I feel as if I am going about this the wrong way, so could someone please help with this? Thanks.

  • Run ajax scripts on page when navigating with ajax?

    I got a bit of an issue in my ASP.NET MVC project. I have a chat div in the bottom right corner (like facebook), and of course I do not want this to reload when navigating to all my navigation is ajax. The problem I am facing is that I use the following code on the top of the view page: <script type="text/javascript"> $(document).ready(function() { $('#divTS').hide(); $('a#showTS').click(function() { $('#divTS').slideToggle(400); return false; }); }); </script> The problem is that this code is only loaded with ajax and does not seem to fire? I would like to run all scripts in the newly loaded view, just as if I hadn't navigated with ajax. I cannot put this in the site.master as it only loads once and then probably the divs I am trying to hide doesn't exist. Is there a good way to run scripts in the ajax-loaded div?

Depending on the program size, for instance, the number of source code characters, statements, variables, procedures, basic blocks, intermediate language instructions, assembler instructions, or whatever. This is highly depending on your point of view, so this is a community wiki. See this from the view of someone who writes a compiler. Will the optimisation level -O4 ever be used for larger programs when one of its optimisations takes O(n^6)? Related questions: When is superoptimisation (exponential complexity or even incomputable) acceptable? What is acceptable for JITs? Does it have to be linear? What is the complexity of established compilers? GCC? VC? Intel? Java? C#? Turbo Pascal? LCC? LLVM? (Reference?) If you do not know what asymptotic complexity is: How long are you willing to wait until the compiler compiled your project? (scripting languages excluded)

  • How do you mock the session object collection using Moq

    I am using shanselmann's MvcMockHelper class to mock up some HttpContext stuff using Moq but the issue I am having is being able to assign something to my mocked session object in my MVC controller and then being able to read that same value in my unit test for verification purposes. My question is how do you assign a storage collection to the mocked session object to allow code such as session["UserName"] = "foo" to retain the "foo" value and have it be available in the unit test.
