• ASP.Net MVC 2 DropDownListFor in EditorTemplate

  I have a view model that looks like this: namespace AutoForm.Models { public class ProductViewModel { [UIHint("DropDownList")] public String Category { get; set; } [ScaffoldColumn(false)] public IEnumerable<SelectListItem> CategoryList { get; set; } ... } } It has Category and CategoryList properties. The CategoryList is the source data for the Category dropdown UI element. I have an EditorTemplate that looks like this: <%@ Control Language="C#" Inherits="System.Web.Mvc.ViewUserControl<ProductViewModel>" %> <%@ Import Namespace="AutoForm.Models"%> <%=Html.DropDownListFor(m => m.Category , Model.CategoryList ) %> NOTE: this EditorTemplate is strongly typed to ProductViewModel My Controller is populating CategoryList property with data from a database. I cannot get the DropDownListFor template to render a drop down list with data from CategoryList. I know CategoryList is getting populated with data in the controller because I see the data when I debug and step through the controller. Here's my error message in the browser: Server Error in '/' Application. Object reference not set to an instance of an object. Description: An unhandled exception occurred during the execution of the current web request. Please review the stack trace for more information about the error and where it originated in the code. Exception Details: System.NullReferenceException: Object reference not set to an instance of an object. Thanks Tom As a followup, I noticed that ViewData.Model is null when I'm stepping through the code in the EditorTemplate. I have the EditorTemplate strongly typed to "ProductViewModel" which is also the type that's passed to the View in the controller. I'm perplexed as to why ViewData.Model is null even though it's getting populated in the controller before getting passed to the view.

  I have been struggling with the following error the last couple of days can you please help! I generated my server and client code using the wsdl2java tool from a wsdl 2.0 file.   Basically I'm having this error after I import the Zebra library in Xcode 4.6 Undefined symbols for architecture armv7: "_OBJC_CLASS_$_Linea", referenced from: objc-class-ref in libZSDK_API.a(LineaBtPrinterConnection.o) (maybe you meant: _OBJC_CLASS_$_LineaBtPrinterConnection) ld: symbol(s) not found for architecture armv7 clang: error: linker command failed with exit code 1 (use -v to see invocation) was wondering if anyone have encountered this issue with this version (1.1.5266) of the ZSDK_API. if anyone knows how to fix this, please post your instructions. I recently installed Windows 7 and VS 2008 on a new workstation. When I import the package from TFS and open it, I get the error Validation error. Parse and Import Catalog Flat File: MySSISPackage: The file name "\\shared\flatfile.txt" specified in the connection was not valid. When I open the Flat File Connection Manager Editor, there is an error stating: A valid file name must be selected I can browse to and select the file from inside the editor, but I cannot change any properties, or move away from the General tab because of this error. If I go back to my laptop (Windows XP), where the package was first created, there is no error. Both workstations are on the same domain, and I'm logging in using the same credentials. Any ideas as to why I would receive this error from one workstation and not another? UPDATE: If I take the .dtsx package from the running workstation and load it into SSIS on the server, I get the following errors when it tries to run: Error: The file name "\\shared\flatfile.txt" specified in the connection was not valid. and... Error: Connection "MySSISPackage" failed validation. and... Error: The file name property is not valid. The file name is a device or contains invalid characters. UPDATE 2: a) The Shared folder I'm trying to pull the flat file from is a Samba share on a Unix box. b) If I access the file using SSIS on any 64-bit platform (Windows 7 64-bit, Vista 64-bit, Windows Server 2008) I get the error "A valid file name must be selected." c) Accessing the file using SSIS from 32-bit environments (Windows XP 32-bit, Windows Server 2003 32-bit) there is no problem. d) If I move the file to a shared folder on a Windows server, 64-bit SSIS recognizes the file.

  I'm having trouble using ILMerge in my post-build after upgrading from .NET 3.5/Visual Studio 2008 to .NET 4/Visual Studio 2010. I have a Solution with several projects whose target framework is set to ".NET Framework 4". I use the following ILMerge command to merge the individual project DLLs into a single DLL: if not $(ConfigurationName) == Debug if exist "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft\ILMerge\ILMerge.exe" "C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft\ILMerge\ILMerge.exe" /lib:"C:\Windows\Microsoft.NET\Framework64\v4.0.30319" /lib:"C:\Program Files (x86)\Microsoft Visual Studio 10.0\Common7\IDE\PublicAssemblies" /keyfile:"$(SolutionDir)$(SolutionName).snk" /targetplatform:v4 /out:"$(SolutionDir)bin\development\$(SolutionName).dll" "$(SolutionDir)Connection\$(OutDir)Connection.dll" ...other project DLLs... /xmldocs If I leave off specifying the location of the .NET 4 framework directory, I get an "Unresolved assembly reference not allowed: System" error from ILMerge. If I leave off specifying the location of the MSTest directory, I get an "Unresolved assembly reference not allowed: Microsoft.VisualStudio.QualityTools.UnitTestFramework" error. The ILMerge command above works and produces a DLL. When I reference that DLL in another .NET 4 C# project, however, and try to use code within it, I get the following warning: The primary reference "MyILMergedDLL" could not be resolved because it has an indirect dependency on the .NET Framework assembly "mscorlib, Version=4.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089" which has a higher version "4.0.65535.65535" than the version "4.0.0.0" in the current target framework. If I then remove the /targetplatform:v4 flag and try to use MyILMergedDLL.dll, I get the following error: The type 'System.Xml.Serialization.IXmlSerializable' is defined in an assembly that is not referenced. You must add a reference to assembly 'System.Xml, Version=4.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=b77a5c561934e089'. It doesn't seem like I should have to do that. Whoever uses my MyILMergedDLL.dll API should not have to add references to whatever libraries it references. How can I get around this?

• Visual Studio 2008 doesn't create *.refresh files for external DLL references... what am I missing?

  Hi all-- I've got a question about something that's just been irritating me. A colleague and I are building a support framework for our current client that we want to reference in other projects. The DLL we want as a reference in our project would be an external reference. We're adding it by doing "Add Reference...", then browsing to the location of the .dll. What I want Visual Studio to do is only add the .xml, .pdb, and a .dll.refresh file, but instead it copies the actual .dll (and .xml and .pdb) into the bin. When we rebuild the framework project, the other project that uses its .dll gets all out of whack until we drop and re-add the reference. Everything I've read online says that VS2008 is supposed to create the .dll.refresh files for you, but it never does. Any ideas? Am I missing something or doing something wrong? At this point I'm ready to add a pre-build event to simply copy the framework .dll into my bin, but the .refresh file seems like less of a hassle if it would just work. Thanks, Cory

• Pylibmc requiring libmemcached >= 0.32

  On Ubuntu, I installed libmemcached-dev using the following command: apt-get install libmemcached-dev Unfortunately it installs libmemcached version 0.31, and pylibmc requires that I compile with v 0.32+ to run, otherwise I get an import error. I've tried removing libmemcached-dev with apt-get --purge remove, then installing libmemcached v 0.38, then re-compiling pylibmc, but it still gives me the requires libmemcached v 0.32+ error.

  Hi, I am using calling web services and using WCF generated service-reference on the client. I have saved XML responses that are received from test service to disk (without SOAP envelope and body tags) I would like to load them from disk and create objects from them. Lets' take the following method from my web service: SomeMethodResponse SomeMethod(SomeMethodRequest req) I manually (through SOAP UI) save the response to disk to file, Sample response: < SomeMethodResponse xmlns="http://myNamespace"> <SomeMember1>value</SomeMember1> </SomeMethodResponse xmlns="http://myNamespace"> Then I try to deserialize the object from file using: DataContractSerializer dcs = new DataContractSerializer(typeof(SomeMethodResponse)) This fails – the serializer complains with the error, that it is expecting element in namespace 'http://schemas.datacontract.org/2004/07', but found element in 'http://myNamespace'. Question: Why does the DataContractSerializer not use the namespace, that is declared on SomeMethodResponseType with XmlTypeAttribute(Namespace="http://myNamespace")? I can work around this by explicitly providing the namespace and the root element to DataContractSerializer constructor. But then it fails with message similar to: Error in line X position Y (last line of the XMLdocument). 'EndElement' 'SomeMethodResponse from namespace 'httpmyNapespace’ is not expected. Expecting element 'someNameField'. SomeName is an element in the XSD that web service is using. It is also a property on the SomeMethodResponse type, backed by the private field called someNameField. It looks like DataContractSerializer is trying to deserialize the fields in addition to properties. How can I deserailize XML that I have saved from disk and get back the object of same type that SomeMethod is returning? Thanks, Matra

  I've been trying to programmatically copy custom content type and its custom columns from one web to another for some time now, and I always get different errors or exceptions every time. After yet more tries, I received more strange and cryptic exception from Sharepoint after clicking onto a newly copied custom column in a custom content type.   I would like to export some records from an EndNote (reference management software) library and import into a MySQL database. Does anyone have any experience with this? I've tried creating custom EndNote "output styles" containing either comma-delimited values or even SQL code, but have had mixed results, either because EndNote filters out some characters (like `) or because EndNote doesn't (or I can't work out how to make it) escape text, which might include characters like ' and ". I realize this might be a bit off-topic but any help would be appreciated.

Is it possible to set conversion options, so TSXDateTime is converted to <dateFrom, not <xsd:dateFrom tag? Did you meet that problem?

• Add an array of buttons to a GridView in an Android application

  I have an application that will have 5-15 buttons depending on what is available from a backend. How do I define the proper GridView layout files to include an array of buttons that will each have different text and other attributes? Each button will essentially add an item to a cart, so the onClick code will be the same except for the item it adds to the cart. How can I define an array so I can add a variable number of buttons, but still reference each of them by a unique ID? I've seen examples of the arrays.xml, but they have created an array of strings that are pre-set. I need a way to create an object and not have the text defined in the layout or arrays xml file. Update - Added info about adding to a GridView I want to add this to a GridView, so calling the addView method results in an UnsupportedOperationException. I can do the following: ImageButton b2 = new ImageButton(getApplicationContext()); b2.setBackgroundResource(R.drawable.img_3); android.widget.LinearLayout container = (android.widget.LinearLayout) findViewById(R.id.lay); container.addView(b2); but that doesn't layout the buttons in a grid like I would like. Can this be done in a GridView?

• Issues integrating NCover with CC.NET, .NET framework 4.0 and MsTest

  I'm implementing continuous integration with CruiseControl.NET, .NET 4.0, NCover and MsTest. On the build server I'm unable to run code coverage from the Ncover explorer or NCover console. When I run where vstesthost.exe from the Ncover console it returns the Visual Studio 9.0 path and does not seem to pick up .net framework 4.0. I've followed instructions from this MSTest: Measuring Test Quality With NCover post with slight modifications for .net framework 4.0, without any success. • android.intent.action.SCREEN_ON doesn't work as a receiver intent filter

  I'm trying to get a BroadcastReceiver invoked when the screen is turned on. In my AndroidManifest.xml I have specified : <receiver android:name="IntentReceiver"> <intent-filter> <action android:name="android.intent.action.SCREEN_ON"></action> </intent-filter> </receiver> However it seems the receiver is never invoked (breakpoints don't fire, log statements ignored). I've swapped out SCREEN_ON for BOOT_COMPLETED for a test, and this does get invoked. This is in a 1.6 (SDK level 4) project. Following sage advice from CommonsWare I have elected to try to remove the long-living Service and use different techniques. But I still need to detect the screen off and on events.

  I'd like to roll a 2D numpy in python, except that I'd like pad the ends with zeros rather than roll the data as if its periodic. Specifically, the following code import numpy as np x = np.array([[1, 2, 3],[4, 5, 6]]) np.roll(x,1,axis=1) returns array([[3, 1, 2],[6, 4, 5]]) but what I would prefer is array([[0, 1, 2], [0, 4, 5]]) I could do this with a few awkward touchups, but I'm hoping that there's a way to do it with fast built-in commands. I've downloaded: android-sdk_r04-linux_86.tgz The I start the SDK Manager and AVD Manager (UI) according to the README file: ./tools/android And I get the following Installed Packages: - Install SDK Tools, revision 4 Available Packages: - https://dl-ssl.google.com/android/repoisotry/repository.xml - This repository requires a more recent version of the Tools. Please update- - Android SDK Tools, revision 4 - Archive for Linux (comment: funny since rev 4 seems to be what's installed this is what seems to be installed) Now doing an update of the Android SDK Tools, revision 4 or everything results in 99% progress and then the application hangs. • Bug with asp.net mvc2, collection and ValidationMessageFor ?

  I'm with a really weird bug with asp.net mvc2 (rtm) and ValidationMessageFor. The example below throws a System.Collections.Generic.KeyNotFoundException on Response.Write(Html.ValidationMessageFor(n = n[index].Name)); Any ideas why thats happening? I'm accessing the same dictionary twice before, but it only throws the error on ValidationMessageFor, any thoughts? • Named query not known error trying to call a stored proc using Fluent NHibernate

  I'm working on setting up NHibernate for a project and I have a few queries that, due to their complexity, we will be leaving as stored procedures. I'd like to be able to use NHibernate to call the sprocs, but have run into an error I can't figure out. Since I'm using Fluent NHibernate I'm using mixed mode mapping as recommended here. However, when I run the app I get a "Named query not known: AccountsGetSingle" exception and I can't figure out why. I think I might have a problem with my HBM mapping since I'm not very familiar with using them but I'm not sure. • Philosophy of [WebInvoke(ResponseFormat = WebMessageFormat.Json)]

  Hi everyone, I'm writing what I'm referring to as a POJ (Plain Old JSON) WCF web service - one that takes and emits standard JSON with none of the crap that ASP.NET Ajax likes to add to it. It seems that there are three steps to accomplish this: Change to in the endpoint's tag Decorate the method with [WebInvoke(ResponseFormat = WebMessageFormat.Json)] Add an incantation of [AspNetCompatibilityRequirements(RequirementsMode = AspNetCompatibilityRequirementsMode.Allowed)] to the service contract This is all working OK for me - I can pass in and am being returned nice plain JSON. If I remove the WebInvoke attribute, then I get XML returned instead, so it is certainly doing what it is supposed to do. But it strikes me as odd that the option to specify JSON output appears here and not in the configuration file. Say I wanted to expose my method as an XML endpoint too - how would I do this? Currently the only way I can see would be to have a second method that does exactly the same thing but does not have WebMethodFormat.Json specified. Then rinse and repeat for every method in my service? Yuck. Specifying that the output should be serialized to JSON in the attribute seems to be completely contrary to the philosophy of WCF, where the service is implemented is a transport and encoding agnostic manner, leaving the nasty details of how the data will be moved around to the configuration file. Is there a better way of doing what I want to do? Or are we stuck with this awkward attribute? Or do I not understanding WCF deeply enough?

• PreferenceActivity and theme not applying

  Hi all I have set the theme in the manifest file like this: android:theme="@android:style/Theme.Light" But I have a problem in the Preferences Activity, in the main preferences the theme shows ok, but if I get to a sub preference, the theme gets messy, it is not white as it should, it is all dark, and the font is black so you can't see much, and when I start clicking on any items they will get sometimes white as they should but revert to black soon after. This is only happens on 2.1, in both the real device and emulator. Tested on the emulator running 1.6 and it was working correctly. • XAML | When used XamlReader.Parse, not able to refer the items using the LogicalTreeHelper/VisualTre

  Hi, I am setting the dynamic xaml (I am reading the xaml from the DB) for the content of a tab using the below statement. Tab.Content = XamlReader.Parse(xaml, ctx) After setting the content, if I try getting the children using the VisualTreeHelper, but I am not able to get. How ever I dont have this issue when I construct the xaml statically. Here is the code to reading the xaml.
