• How can I get a static URL to a map image using the Google Static Maps API?

  === BACKGROUND === Hello, so I've published a Web-App (still in "Beta") which uses the Flickr API to get information for the photos of a particular Flickr user and generates IPB code to post any of his/her images. While Flickr now gives you the IPB code to show the image and link back to the photo site directly on its site, my App also has the option of embeding the title, description, select EXIF data, location information, etc. into the post for the IPB forum. === PROBLEM === I've most recently added the option to integrate a Google Maps image of the photo's geolocation data into the post by using the Google Static Maps API. The problem is that the image URL I have is in the following form (including IPB [IMG] tags): [IMG]http://maps.google.com/maps/api/staticmap?zoom=16&size=600x600&maptype=hybrid&markers=19.387687,-99.251732&sensor=false[/IMG] Which shows this example image (In practice the image size is user selectable): However, some IPB forums seem to not support dyamic image URLs which gives me a broken image, I'd like to replace the [IMG]http://maps.google.com/maps/api/staticmap?zoom=16&size=600x600&maptype=hybrid&markers=19.387687,-99.251732&sensor=false[/IMG] with something like [IMG]http://maps.google.com/maps/api/staticmap/map0000001.png[/IMG] which should be supported by all IPB forums. • How can I force a ListView with a custom panel to re-measure when the ListView width goes below the

  Sorry for the long winded question (I'm including background here). If you just want the question, go to the end. I have a ListView with a custom Panel implementation that I'm using to implement something similar to a WrapPanel, but not quite. I'm overriding the MeasureOverride and ArrangeOverride methods in the custom panel. If I do the naive implementation of a WrapPanel in the MeasureOverride method it doesn't work when the ListView is resized. Let's say the custom panel does a measure and the constraint is a width of 100 and let's say I have 3 items that are 40 wide each. The naive approach is to return a size of 80,80 but when I resize the window that the ListView is in, down to say 75, it just turns on the horizontal scrollbar and never calls measure or arrange again (it does keep measuring and arranging if the width is greater than 80). To get around this, I hard coded the measurement to only have a width of the widest item. Then in the arrange, it gives me more space than I asked for and I use as much horizontal space as I can before wrapping. If I resize the window smaller than the smallest item in the ListView, then it turns on the scrollbar, which is great. Unfortunately this is causing a big problem when I have one of these ListViews with a custom panel nested inside of another one. The outside one works ok, but I can't get the inside one to "take as much as it needs". It always sizes to the smallest item, and the only way around it is to set the MinWidth to be something greater than zero. Anyway, stepping back for a second, I think the real way to fix this is to go back to the Naive implementation of the WrapPanel but force it to re-measure when the ListView width goes below the Size I previously returned as a measurement. That should solve my problem with the nested one. So, that's my question: I have a ListView with a custom panel If I return a measurement width on the panel and the ListView is resized to less than that width, it stops calling MeasureOverride How can I get it to continue calling MeasureOverride?

• iPhone question: How can I add a button to a tableview cell?

  Hi guys, Little background, the table view is filled by a fetchedResultsController which fills the table view with Strings. Now I'm trying to add a button next to each String in each tableview cell. So far, I've been trying to create a button in my configureCell:atIndexPath method and then add that button as a subview to the table cell's content view, but for some reason the buttons do not show up. Below is the relevant code. If anyone wants more code posted, just ask and I'll put up whatever you want. • Draw a position from a 2d Array on respected canvas location

  Background: I have two 2d arrays. Each index within each 2d array represents a tile which is drawn on a square canvas suitable for 8 x 8 tiles. The first 2d array represents the ground tiles and is looped and drawn on the canvas using the following code: //Draw the map from the land 2d array map = new Canvas(mainFrame, 20, 260, 281, 281); for(int i=0; i < world.length; i++){ for(int j=0; j < world[i].length; j++){ for(int x=0; x < 280; x=x+35){ for(int y=0; y < 280; y=y+35){ Point p = new Point(x,y); map.add(new RectangleObject(p,35,35,Colour.green)); } } } } This creates a grid of green tiles 8 x 8 across as intended. The second 2d array represents the position on the ground. This 2d array has everyone of its indexes as null apart from one which is comprised of a Person class. Problem I am unsure of how I can draw the position on the grid. I was thinking of a similar loop, so it draws over the previous 2d array another set of 64 tiles. Only this time they are all transparent but the one tile which isn't null. In other words, the tile where Person is located. I wanted to use a search throughout the loop using a comparative if statement along the lines of if(!(world[] == null)){ map.add(new RectangleObject(p,35,35,Colour.red));} However my knowledge is limited and I am confused on how to implement it.

• Python alignment of assignments (style)

  I really like following style standards, as those specified in PEP 8. I have a linter that checks it automatically, and definitely my code is much better because of that. There is just one point in PEP 8, the E251 & E221 don't feel very good. Coming from a JavaScript background, I used to align the variable assignments as following: var var1 = 1234; var2 = 54; longer_name = 'hi'; var lol = { 'that' : 65, 'those' : 87, 'other_thing' : true }; And in my humble opinion, this improves readability dramatically. Problem is, this is dis-recommended by PEP 8. With dictionaries, is not that bad because spaces are allowed after the colon: dictionary = { 'something': 98, 'some_other_thing': False } I can "live" with variable assignments without alignment, but what I don't like at all is not to be able to pass named arguments in a function call, like this: some_func(length= 40, weight= 900, lol= 'troll', useless_var= True, intelligence=None) So, what I end up doing is using a dictionary, as following: specs = { 'length': 40, 'weight': 900, 'lol': 'troll', 'useless_var': True, 'intelligence': None } some_func(**specs) or just simply some_func(**{'length': 40, 'weight': 900, 'lol': 'troll', 'useless_var': True, 'intelligence': None}) But I have the feeling this work around is just worse than ignoring the PEP 8 E251 / E221. What is the best practice?

• Second Thread Holding Up Entire Program in C# Windows Form Application

  In my windows form application, I'm trying to test the user's ability to access a remote machine's shared folder. The way I'm doing this (and I'm sure that there are better ways...but I don't know of them) is to check for the existence of a specific directory on the remote machine (I'm doing this because of firewall/other security restrictions that I'm confronted with in my organization). If the user has rights to access the shared folder, then it returns in no time at all, but if they don't, it hangs forever. To solve this, I threw the check into another thread and wait only 1000 milliseconds before determining that the share can't be hit by the user. However, when I do this, it still hangs as if it was never run in the same thread. What is making it hang and how do I fix it? I would think that the fact that it is in a separate thread would allow me to just let the thread finish on it's own in the background. • What is the best way to call a method right AFTER a form loads?

  I have a C# windows forms application. The way I currently have it set up, when Form1_Load() runs it checks for recovered unsaved data and if it finds some it prompts the user if they want to open that data. When the program runs it works alright but the message box is shown right away and the main program form (Form1) does not show until after the user clicks yes or no. I would like the Form1 to pop up first and then the message box prompt. Now to get around this problem before I have created a timer in my Form, started the timer in the Form1_Load() method, and then performed the check and user prompt in the first Timer Tick Event. This technique solves the problem but is seems like there might be a better way. Do you guys have any better ideas? Edit: I think I have also used a background worker to do something similar. It just seems kinda goofy to go through all the trouble of invoking the method to back to the form thread and all that crap just to have it delayed a couple milliseconds!

• Java CountDownLatch used to wait for JFrame to dispose

  I have referenced this previous question as well as other sources, but cannot get CountDownLatch to work correctly. Background: mainFrame creates new Frame called dataEntryFrame. When dataEntryFrame "Submit" button is clicked, record added to database and dataEntryFrame disposed. At this point, mainFrame should clear and reload a jList that shows all records. Issue: When dataEntryFrame loads, java freezes, dataEntryFrame components never load. I cannot get past this part... then, in the DataEntryFrame, CountDownLatch should only decrements after the submit button is clicked, successfully adds a record to a database table, and disposes itself. Or when the user clicks cancel... • image appears larger than bounding rectangle?

  Hello I'm implementing a custom print preview control. One of the objects it needs to display is an image which can be several pages high and wide. I've successfully divided the image into pages and displayed them in the correct order. Each "page" is drawn within the marginbounds. (That is, each page is sized to be the same as the marginBounds.) The problem I have is that the image the page represents exceeds the bottom margin. However if I draw a rectangle with the same dimensions as the image, at the same position as the image, the rectangle matches the marginbounds. Thus when drawn to the page (in print preview and printed page) the image is larger than a rectangle drawn based on the image dimensions. I.e. The image is drawn at the same size as e.MarignBounds and is drawn at e.MarginBounds.Location yet exceeds the bottom margin. How is this? I can't figure out where proper resizing takes place inside the Accordion control. Does anyone have an idea?

• How to implement Horner's scheme for multivariate polynomials?

  Background I need to solve polynomials in multiple variables using Horner's scheme in Fortran90/95. The main reason for doing this is the increased efficiency and accuracy that occurs when using Horner's scheme to evaluate polynomials. I currently have an implementation of Horner's scheme for univariate/single variable polynomials. However, developing a function to evaluate multivariate polynomials using Horner's scheme is proving to be beyond me. An example bivariate polynomial would be: 12x^2y^2+8x^2y+6xy^2+4xy+2x+2y which would factorised to x(x(y(12y+8))+y(6y+4)+2)+2y and then evaluated for particular values of x & y. As far as I can tell the basic strategy is to turn a multivariate polynomial into separate univariate polynomials and compute it that way. Can anyone help me? If anyone could help me turn the algorithms into pseudo-code that I can implement into Fortran myself, I would be very grateful.

• Prevent Text Input expanding in IE

  Hi, I am having a problem with an input field in IE. The code is for a portlet and widths need to be dynamic as the user can place the portlet on any of the three columns in the page which all have different widths. As always it works fine in FF but not in IE. In order to make the width dyanaic I have set width="100%". Data to populate the text input comes from a DB. When the page is rendered if there is a long URL the text input expands to fill the contents in IE but in FF it just stays the same width (ie 100% of the TD that it lives in). How can I stop IE from changing the width in order to fit the contents. Setting the width to a fixed width of 100px fixes the issue but I need to have the width as a percentage in order to accommodate the layout of the portlet wherever it is put in on the page. I have tried overflow:hidden and word-wrap:break-word but I cant get either to work. • Seperate html pages for each screen in Jquery mobile

  I am newbie to Jquery Mobile, so far what ever examples i searched contains only one html page for whole application, with multipe div tags where each page/screen is defined as div tag with data-role as page with some header and footers optionally. Based on user actions, we are hiding some div's(pages) and showing only expected page. Also, this multi-page template seems to be standard design, as written by some blogs. Are there any other designing ways? what I would like to have is multipe html pages, for ex one for login, one for home, one for contact etc. Other wise it is difficult to understand/code/debug issues, especially people from Java background like me.So, what I want is some kind of MVC design with JQueryMobile, like each view/screen as sepearate html associated with one js (Controller). Can we have multiple html pages in JqueryMobile app? If possible how to pass data/ maintain session between them? Any samples are most welcome. Thanks In Advance. Note: Also I don't want server side includes, may app contains 10 to 15 screens, each page will make a webservice call and fetch some data and map it to UI.

• Detecting branch reintegration or merge in pre-commit script

  Within a pre-commit script, is it possible (and if so, how) to identify commits stemming from an svn merge? svnlook changed ... shows files that have changed, but does not differentiate between merges and manual edits. Ideally, I would also like to differentiate between a standard merge and a merge --reintegrate. Background: I'm exploring the possibility of using pre-commit hooks to enforce SVN usage policies for our project. One of the policies state that some directories (such as /trunk) should not be modified directly, and changed only through the reintegration of feature branches. The pre-commit script would therefore reject all changes made to these directories apart from branch reintegrations. Any ideas? Update: I've explored the svnlook command, and the closest I've got is to detect and parse changes to the svn:mergeinfo property of the directory. This approach has some drawback: svnlook can flag up a change in properties, but not which property was changed. (a diff with the proplist of the previous revision is required) By inspecting changes in svn:mergeinfo, it is possible to detect that svn merge was run. However, there is no way to determine if the commits are purely a result of the merge. Changes manually made after the merge will go undetected. • Identify machines behind a router uniquely based on ipaddress

  Some background first. I have a .net client agent installed on each of the machines in the lan. They are interacting with my central server [website] also on the same lan. It is important for my website to figure out which of the machines can talk to each other. For example, machines of one subnet cannot directly talk to machines of another subnet without configuring the routers and such. But machines in the same subnet should be able to talk to each other directly. The problem I am facing is when the lan setup is like in Figure 1. Because Comp1, Comp2 and Comp3 are behind a router, they have got the ipaddress 192.168.1.2 till 192.168.1.4. My client agent on these machines report the same ipaddress back to the server. However, machines Comp4, Comp5 also have the same ipaddresses. Thus, as far as my server is concerned, there are 2 machines with the same ipaddress. Not just that, because the subnet mask is 255.255.255.0 for all machines, my server is fooled into thinking that Comp1 can directly talk to Comp5, which is not possible. So, how do I solve this? What do I need to change in my client or in my server, so that I can support this scenario. These two are the only things in my control.

  I'm developing an rss feed reader that uses a bayesian filter to filter out boring blog posts. The Stream table is meant to act as a FIFO buffer from which the webapp will consume 'entries'. I use it to store the temporary relationship between entries, users and bayesian filter classifications. After a user marks an entry as read, it will be added to the metadata table (so that a user isn't presented with material they have already read), and deleted from the stream table. Every three minutes, a background process will repopulate the Stream table with new entries (i.e. whenever the daemon adds new entries after the checks the rss feeds for updates). Problem: The query I came up with is hella slow. More importantly, the Stream table only needs to hold one hundred unread entries at a time; it'll reduce duplication, make processing faster and give me some flexibility with how I display the entries. The query (takes about 9 seconds on 3600 items with no indexes): insert into stream(entry_id, user_id) select entries.id, subscriptions_users.user_id from entries inner join subscriptions_users on subscriptions_users.subscription_id = entries.subscription_id where subscriptions_users.user_id = 1 and entries.id not in (select entry_id from metadata where metadata.user_id = 1) and entries.id not in (select entry_id from stream where user_id = 1); The query explained: insert into stream all of the entries from a user's subscription list (subscriptions_users) that the user has not read (i.e. do not exist in metadata) and which do not already exist in the stream. Attempted solution: adding limit 100 to the end speeds up the query considerably, but upon repeated executions will keep on adding a different set of 100 entries that do not already exist in the table (with each successful query taking longer and longer). This is close but not quite what I wanted to do. Does anyone have any advice (nosql?) or know a more efficient way of composing the query?

I use rich:editor with these attributes: (Irrelevant data removed) HtmlEditor editor = new HtmlEditor(); editor.setValueExpression("value", ve); editor.setTheme("advanced"); editor.setValueExpression("viewMode", viewModeValueExpression); panel.getChildren().add(editor); Now my problem is that whenever I load a ready-made html text such as this (In source mode): <html lang="en" xml:lang="en"> <head> <title>Done</title> </head> <body style="direction: ltr; font-size: medium; color: #0000FF;"> <p>When the menu loads, navigate to and open Image Editor.</p> </body> </html> Change to VisualMode and then back to SourceMode, I see that the editor removed all of my html data and now the source mode is this: <p>When the menu loads, navigate to and open Chul Muzal.</p> Anyone knows why this happens? • Conditionally overriding a system method via categories in Objective-C?

  Hi Is there a way to provide a method implementation (that bears the exact same name of a method defined by the framework) only when the method isn't already defined in the system? For example method [NSSomeClass someMethod:] exists only in Mac OS X 10.6 and if my app runs in 10.5, I will provide that method's definition in a category. But when the app runs in 10.6, I want the OS-provided method to run. Background: I'm creating an app targeted for both 10.5 and 10.6. The problem is that I recently realized that method +[NSSortDescriptor sortDescriptorWithKey:ascending:] only exists in 10.6 and my code is already littered by that method call. I could provide a default implementation for it (since this time it's not too difficult to implement it myself), but I want the "native" one to be called whenever my app runs on 10.6. Furthermore if I encounter similar problems in the future (with more difficult-to-implement-myself methods), I might not be able to get away with providing a one-liner replacement. This question vaguely similar to Override a method via ObjC Category and call the default implementation? but the difference is that I want to provide implementations only when the system doesn't already has one. • Write Null/Nothing value with Databinding

  I have extended a MaskedTextBox component to add some functionality. The text property of the extended MaskedTextBox is bound to a DateTime? property and the format of binding is set to a time format of "HH:mm:ss" (i.e. 24hr time). So that this masked text box will capture the display a time. The extra functionality I have added is to make the component readonly unless the component is double clicked or the enter button is pressed (the back color of the control helps to inform the users if the component is locked/readonly or not). When the enter button is pressed I also suspend the bindings so that bound data is updated the users input won't be lost. The information is then written back to the value and databindings resumed when the user presses the enter key again. This all works fine up to here, with values written and displayed as would be expected. However, I also want to write the null or nothing value to the DateTime? property if the user hasn't entered any text (or invalid text but let's just stick with no text) when enter key is pressed to submit the new value. Unlike with other valid entries in the MaskedTextBox, with no text entered when i execute: Me.DataBindings("Text").WriteValue() (when 'locking' the MaskedTextBox) it then branches to the bound properties Get method as I step into each line of code in the debugger (as opposed to the Set method with other valid entries) How can I write this null/nothing/"" value to the DateTime? property when no text "" is entered into the MaskedTextBox? • Delphi : Handling the fact that Strings are not Objects

  I am trying to write a function that takes any TList and returns a String representation of all the elements of the TList. I tried a function like so function ListToString(list:TList<TObject>):String; This works fine, except you can't pass a TList to it. E2010 Incompatible types: 'TList<System.TObject>' and 'TList<System.string>' In Delphi, a String is not an Object. To solve this, I've written a second function: function StringListToString(list:TList<string>):String; Is this the only solution? Are there other ways to treat a String as more 'object-like'? In a similar vein, I also wanted to write an 'equals' function to compare two TLists. Again I run into the same problem function AreListsEqual(list1:TList<TObject>; list2:TList<TObject>):boolean; Is there any way to write this function (perhaps using generics?) so it can also handle a TList? Are there any other tricks or 'best practises' I should know about when trying to create code that handles both Strings and Objects? Or do I just create two versions of every function? Can generics help? I am from a Java background but now work in Delphi. It seems they are lately adding a lot of things to Delphi from the Java world (or perhaps the C# world, which copied them from Java). Like adding equals() and hashcode() to TObject, and creating a generic Collections framework etc. I'm wondering if these additions are very practical if you can't use Strings with them.

• Dynamic margin (or simulation of margin) between left floated divs

  I have a number of divs floated left. When browser is resized they move down or up based on how many can fit on the line. I was wondering if there is a way to dynamically (with css) have those divs align (or have margin) in a way, that they would always fill the entire screen space by having their marhin resize? In other words margin between them would resize while browser is resized, but as soon as another div can fit it will be added in the line, or if minimum margin is reached and passed another div goes to next line while margins expand again.
