• AjaxControlToolkit TabContainer with weird rendering behavior

  I've built a web application that contains a page that uses the AjaxControlToolkit's TabContainer/TabPanel objects. I've developed a custom stylesheet, as well. I'm developing using Visual Studio 2010. The following is the behavior of my application: VS2010 Development Server (localhost:XXXXX): Works as expected with the custom stylesheet. Local IIS: The TabContainer rendered but the stylesheet wasn't applied. I fixed this by doing a CTRL+F5. It seems that IIS caches stylesheets pretty aggressively. Remote Server: The TabContainer and TabPanel are completely hidden. Looking at the HTML, all of them have their visibility set to hidden. The way I got my files onto my remote server were as follows (I haven't yet set up WebDAV or remote publishing because the server is a Windows 7 box and as far as I am aware does not support FrontPage Extensions): The entire solution is under source code control (SVN). Checked in all pending changes (including projects, aspx files, css, AjaxControlToolkit binaries) Synced on the server. Rebuilt everything on server. Deployed to local IIS on server (which is externally accessible). Both on the local IIS on the server and the development server on the server, the TabContainers are completely hidden. Looking at the SVN status on the server project, only the "AjaxControlToolkit.dll" is under source-code control. All the locale-specific DLLs are not on the server. Could this be a potential issue? I'm not sure what's going on and would appreciate any help. Thanks!

• Right way to dispose Image/Bitmap and PictureBox

  I am trying to develop a Windows Mobile 6 (in WF/C#) application. There is only one form and on the form there is only a PictureBox object. On it I draw all desired controls or whatever I want. There are two things I am doing. Drawing custom shapes and loading bitmaps from .png files. The next line locks the file when loading (which is an undesired scenario): Bitmap bmp = new Bitmap("file.png"); So I am using another way to load bitmap. public static Bitmap LoadBitmap(string path) { using (Bitmap original = new Bitmap(path)) { return new Bitmap(original); } } This is I guess much slower, but I don't know any better way to load an image, while quickly releasing the file lock. Now, when drawing an image there is method that I use: public void Draw() { Bitmap bmp = new Bitmap(240,320); Graphics g = Graphics.FromImage(bmp); // draw something with Graphics here. g.Clear(Color.Black); g.DrawImage(Images.CloseIcon, 16, 48); g.DrawImage(Images.RefreshIcon, 46, 48); g.FillRectangle(new SolidBrush(Color.Black), 0, 100, 240, 103); pictureBox.Image = bmp; } This however seems to be some kind of a memory leak. And if I keep doing it for too long, the application eventually crashes. Therefor, I have X questions: 1.) What is the better way for loading bitmaps from files without locking the file? 2.) What objects needs to be manually disposed in the Draw() function (and in which order) so there's no memory leak and no ObjectDisposedException throwing? 3.) If pictureBox.Image is set to bmp, like in the last line of the code, would pictureBox.Image.Dispose() dispose only resources related to maintaining the pictureBox.Image or the underlying Bitmap set to it?

• Symfony / Doctrine - How to filter form field by property in related model

  I have a UserForm class which has a select list populated from a related model (specified by a foreign relationship in the yml) like so: $this->setWidget('report_id', new sfWidgetFormDoctrineChoice(array('model' => $this->getRelatedModelName('Report')))); I'd like to filter the Report objects that come from this relation by one of the Report fields, "active" such that only Reports with active=1 appear in the form. I have a method, ReportTable::GetActiveReports() that performs the appropriate query and returns the filtered reports. So one option is to populate the Widget with the results of that function. Any tips on the syntax to do that? It seems to me the cleaner way is to use the UserFormFilter class to filter the reports by active=1 there. Unfortunately I couldn't find any documentation on how to use form filters (or really what they are), so maybe this is not the right solution. Is a Form Filter the appropriate tool for this job? It seems I should use the Doctrine_Record_Filter_Standard class as defined here: http://www.doctrine-project.org/api/orm/1.2/doctrine/doctrine_record_filter_standard.html But it's not clear to me the appropriate usage.   Hi, I develop an asp.net web application and I use ASP.NET membership provider. The application uses the membership schema and all required objects inside main application database However, during development I have to switch to various databases, for different development and testing scenarios. For this I have an external connection strings section file and also an external appsettings section, which allow me to not change main web.config but switch the db easily, by changing setting only in appsettings section. My files are as below: <connectionStrings configSource="connections.config"> </connectionStrings> <appSettings file="local.config"> .... ConnectionStrings looks as usual: <connectionStrings> <add name="MyDB1" connectionString="..." ... /> <add name="MyDB2" connectionString="..." ... /> .... </connectionStrings> And local.config as below <appSettings> <add key="ConnectionString" value="MyDB2" /> My code takes into account to use this connection string But membership settings in web.config contains the connection string name directly into the setting, like <add name="MembershipProvider" connectionStringName="MyDB2" ...> .... <add name="RoleProvider" connectionStringName="MyDB2" ...> Because of this, every time I have to edit them too to use the new db. Is there any way to config membership provider to use an appsetting to select db connection for membership db? Or to "redirect" it to read connection setting from somewhere else? Or at least to have this in some external file (like local.config) Maybe is some easy way to wrap asp.net membership provider intio my own provider which will just read connection string from where I want and pass it to original membership provider, and then just delegate the whole membership functionality to asp.net membership provider. • Extract known pattern substring from NSString (without regex)

  I'm really tempted to drop RegexKit (or my own libpcre wrapper) into my project in order to do this, but before I do that I want to know how Cocoa developers manage to do half of this basic stuff without really convoluted code or without linking with RegexKit or another regular expression library. I find it gobsmacking that Cocoa does not include any regular expression matching features. I've so accustomed to using regular expressions for all kinds of things that I'm lost without them. I can do what I need without them, but the code would be rather convoluted. So, Cocoa devs, I ask you, what's the "Cocoa way" to do this... The problem is an everyday problem in programming as far as I'm concerned. Cocoa must have ways of doing this with the built-in features. Note that the position of the elements I want to match changes, and sometimes "quotes" are present. Whitespace is variable. Take the following strings: Content-Type: application/xml; charset=utf-8 Content-Type: text/html; charset="iso-8859-1" Content-Type: text/plain; charset=us-ascii Content-Type: text/plain; name="example.txt"; charset=utf-8 From all of these strings, how would you go about determining the mime type (e.g. text/plain) and the charset (e.g. utf-8) using just the built-in Cocoa classes? I'd end up performing a series of -rangeOfString: and substring calls, with conditional checks to deal with the optional quotes etc. Is there a way to do this with NSScanner? The NSScanner class seems to have a pretty naive API to me. Something like C's sscanf() that works for NSString objects would be an ideal fit. Most of my string parsing needs are simple such as this example so maybe regular expressions, while I'm accustomed to them, are overkill?

  I am using scala 2.7.7, and wanted to parse CSV file and store the data in SQLite database. I ended up using OpenCSV java library to parse the CSV file, and using sqlitejdbc library. • Problem with JSONResult

  Hi, I' still newby to this so I'll try to explain what I'm doing. Basically what I want is to load a dropdownlist depending on the value of a previous one, and I want it to load the data and appear when the other one is changed. This is the code I've written in my controller: public ActionResult GetClassesSearch(bool ajax, string phylumID, string kingdom){ IList<TaxClass> lists = null; int _phylumID = int.Parse(phylumID); int _kingdom = int.Parse(kingdom); lists = _taxon.getClassByPhylumSearch(_phylumID, _kingdom); return Json(lists.count); } and this is how I call the method from the javascript function: function loadClasses(_phylum) { var phylum = _phylum.value; $.getJSON("/Suspension/GetClassesSearch/", { ajax: true, phylumID: phylum, kingdom: kingdom }, function(data) { alert(data); alert('no fallo') document.getElementById("pClass").style.display = "block"; document.getElementById("sClass").options[0] = new Option("-select-", "0", true, true); //for (i = 0; i < data.length; i++) { // $('#sClass').addOption(data[i].classID, data[i].className); //} }); } The thing is that just like this it works, I pass the function the number of classes within a selected phylum, and it displays the pclass element, the problem gets when I try to populate the slist with data (which should contain the objects retrieved from the database), because when there is data returned by the database changing return Json(lists) instead of return Json(lists.count) I keep getting the same error: A circular reference was detected while serializing an object of type 'SubSonic.Schema.DatabaseColumn'. I've been going round and round debugging and making tests but I can't make it work, and it is suppossed to be a simple thing, but I'm missing something. I have commented the for loop because I'm not quite sure if that's the way you access the data, because I've not been able to make it work when it finds records. Can anyone help me? • Displaying single-instance business object data on SSRS

  I have a SQL Server Reporting Services local (i.e. RDLC) report displayed in a ReportViewer, with two subreports. I am using business objects to populate the datasets. What is the best way to populate single-instance data on my report, e.g. a dynamic title, or a text box that lists a calculated value, not based on the report data? I am currently displaying data using the following style: public class MyRecordList { string Name { get; set; } List<MyRecord> Records { get; set;} } public MyRecord { string Description { get; set;} string Value { get; set;} } I set the datasource to the Records in an instance of MyRecordsList, and they print out find in a table. But adding a textbox and and referring to Name displays nothing. I also tried turning Name into a List, and referring to the first in the list, using: =First(Fields!Name.Value, "Report1_MyRecordList") but still nothing is printed on the report.

• Could CouchDB benefit significantly from the use of BERT instead of JSON?

  I appreciate a lot CouchDB attempt to use universal web formats in everything it does: RESTFUL HTTP methods in every interaction, JSON objects, javascript code to customize database and documents. CouchDB seems to scale pretty well, but the individual cost to make a request usually makes 'relational' people afraid of. Many small business applications should deal with only one machine and that's all. In this case the scalability talk doesn't say too much, we need more performance per request, or people will not use it. BERT (Binary ERlang Term http://bert-rpc.org/ ) has proven to be a faster and lighter format than JSON and it is native for Erlang, the language in which CouchDB is written. Could we benefit from that, using BERT documents instead of JSON ones? I'm not saying just for retrieving in views, but for everything CouchDB does, including syncing. And, as a consequence of it, use Erlang functions instead of javascript ones. This would modify some original CouchDB principles, because today it is very web oriented. Considering I imagine few people would make their database API public and usually its data is accessed by the users through an application, it would be a good deal to have the ability to configure CouchDB for working faster. HTTP+JSON calls could still be handled by CouchDB, considering an extra cost in these cases because of parsing.

Has anyone got any ideas about how these methods need to be modified so as to work with Haml Formtastic?   I am trying to write a simple program to combine coefficient and standard error estimates from a set of regression fits. I run, say, 5 regressions, and store the coefficient(s) and standard error(s) of interest into vectors (Stata matrix objects, actually). Then, I need to do the following: Find the mean value of the coefficient estimates. Combine the standard error estimates according to the formula suggested for combining results from "multiple imputation". The formula is the square root of the formula for "T" on page 6 of the following document: http://bit.ly/b05WX3 I have written Stata code that does this once, but I want to write this as a function (or "program", in Stata speak) that takes as arguments the vector (or matrix, if possible, to combine multiple estimates at once) of regression coefficient estimates and the vector (or matrix) of corresponding standard error estimates, and then generates 1 and 2 above. Here is the code that I wrote: (breg is a 1x5 vector of the regression coefficient estimates, and sereg is a 1x5 vector of the associated standard error estimates) mat ones = (1,1,1,1,1) mat bregmean = (1/5)*(ones*breg’) scalar bregmean_s = bregmean[1,1] mat seregmean = (1/5)*(ones*sereg’) mat seregbtv = (1/4)*(breg - bregmean#ones)* (breg - bregmean#ones)’ mat varregmi = (1/5)*(sereg*sereg’) + (1+(1/5))* seregbtv scalar varregmi_s = varregmi[1,1] scalar seregmi = sqrt(varregmi_s) disp bregmean_s disp seregmi This gives the right answer for a single instance. • KeepAlive packets over a Soap request

  I've been debugging some Soap requests we are making between two servers on the same VLAN. The app on one server is written in PHP, the app on the other is written in Java. I can control and make changes to the PHP code, but I can't affect the Java server. The PHP app forms the XML using the DOMDocument objects, then sends the request using the cURL extension. When the soap request took longer than 5 minutes to complete, it would always wait until the max timeout limit and exit with a message like this: Operation timed out after 900000 milliseconds with 0 bytes received After sniffing the packets that were being sent, it turns out that the problem was caused by a 5 minute timeout in the network that was closing what it thought was a stale connection. There were two ways to fix it: bump up the timeout in iptables, or start sending KeepAlive packets over the request. To be thorough, I would like to implement both solutions. Bumping up the timeout was easy for ops to do, but sending KeepAlive packets is turning out to be difficult. The cURL library itself supports this (see the --keepalive-time flag for the CLI app), but it doesn't appear that this has been implemented in the PHP cURL library. I even checked the source to make sure it wasn't an undocumented feature. So my question is this: How the heck can I get these packets sent? I see a few clear options, but I don't like any of them: Write a wrapper that will kick off the request by shell_execing the CLI app. This is a hack that I just don't like Update the cURL extension to support this. This is a non-option according to Ops. Open the socket myself. I know just enough to be dangerous. I also haven't seen a way to do this with fsockopen, but I could be missing something. Switch to another library. What exists that supports this? Thanks for any help you can offer.

  django-mptt seems determined to drive me out of my mind. I'm trying to do something relatively simple: I'm going to delete a node, and need to do something reasonable with the node's children. Namely, I'd like to move them up one level so they're children of their current parent's parent. That is, if the tree looks like: Root | Grandpa | Father | | C1 C2 I'm going to delete Father, and would like C1 and C2 to be children of Grandpa. The children report their parents as Grandpa: c1.parent == grandpa # True Grandpa counts C1 and C2 among its children c1 in grandpa.children.all() # True However, Root disowns these kids. c1.get_root() == father # c1's root is father, instead of Root c1 in root.get_descendants() # False How do I get the children to move and their root not get corrupted?

I followed these steps: Made the model class : Person with one property for now - @property (readwrite, assign) int salary; In the application delegate class I initialized a mutable array : personArray with certain objects like this: Person *person1 = [[Person alloc] init]; person1.salary = 5000; Person *person2 = [[Person alloc] init]; person2.salary = 15000; Person *person3 = [[Person alloc] init]; person3.salary = 7000; Person *person4 = [[Person alloc] init]; person4.salary = 9000; Person *person5 = [[Person alloc] init]; person5.salary = 11000; personArray= [[NSMutableArray alloc] initWithObjects:person1, person2, person3, person4, person5,nil]; In IB I dropped a NSArrayController object, set its mode as Class - Person, added key salary in attribute pane. Then in bindings pane, binded contents array to ApplicationDelegate class with model key path set to self.personArray. Dropped a NSTextField on window. Binded its value to ArrayController object. Assigned controller key as - arrangedObjects. Assigned Model key path to @avg.salary When I executed the application I found no value being displayed in the text field. • JPA merge fails due to duplicate key

  I have a simple entity, Code, that I need to persist to a MySQL database. public class Code implements Serializable { @Id private String key; private String description; ...getters and setters... } The user supplies a file full of key, description pairs which I read, convert to Code objects and then insert in a single transaction using em.merge(code). The file will generally have duplicate entries which I deal with by first adding them to a map keyed on the key field as I read them in. A problem arises though when keys differ only by case (for example: XYZ and XyZ). My map will, of course, contain both entries but during the merge process MySQL sees the two keys as being the same and the call to merge fails with a MySQLIntegrityConstraintViolationException. I could easily fix this by uppercasing the keys as I read them in but I'd like to understand exactly what is going wrong. The conclusion I have come to is that JPA considers XYZ and XyZ to be different keys but MySQL considers them to be the same. As such when JPA checks its list of known keys (or does whatever it does to determine whether it needs to perform an insert or update) it fails to find the previous insert and issuing another which then fails. Is this corrent? Is there anyway round this other than better filtering the client data? I haven't defined .equals or .hashCode on the Code class so perhaps this is the problem.

• Wpf progressbar not updating during method calculation

  Hey guys, In my app, i have an import option, to read info from a .csv or .txt file and write it to a database. To test, i"m just using 200-300 lines of data. At the beginning of the method, i calculate number of objects/lines to be read. Every time an object is written to the database, i want to update my progressbar. • Implementation review for a MVC.NET app with custom membership

  I'd like to hear if anyone sees any problems with how I implemented the security in this Oracle based MVC.NET app, either security issues, concurrency issues or scalability issues. First, I implemented a CustomOracleMembershipProvider to handle the database interface to the membership store. I implemented a custom Principal named User which implements IPrincipal, and it has a hashtable of Roles. I also created a separate class named AuthCache which has a simple cache for User objects. Its purpose is simple to avoid return trips to the database, while decoupling the caching from either the web layer or the data layer. (So I can share the cache between MVC.NET, WCF, etc.) The MVC.NET stock MembershipService uses the CustomOracleMembershipProvider (configured in web.config), and both MembershipService and FormsService share access to the singleton AuthCache. My AccountController.LogOn() method: 1) Validates the user via the MembershipService.Validate() method, also loads the roles into the User.Roles container and then caches the User in AuthCache. 2) Signs the user into the Web context via FormsService.SignIn() which accesses the AuthCache (not the database) to get the User, sets HttpContext.Current.User to the cached User Principal. In global.asax.cs, Application_AuthenticateRequest() is implemented. It decrypts the FormsAuthenticationTicket, accesses the AuthCache by the ticket.Name (Username) and sets the Principal by setting Context.User = user from the AuthCache. So in short, all these classes share the AuthCache, and I have, for thread synchronization, a lock() in the cache store method. No lock in the read method. The custom membership provider doesn't know about the cache, the MembershipService doesn't know about any HttpContext (so could be used outside of a web app), and the FormsService doesn't use any custom methods besides accessing the AuthCache to set the Context.User for the initial login, so it isn't dependent on a specific membership provider. The main thing I see now is that the AuthCache will be sharing a User object if a user logs in from multiple sessions. So I may have to change the key from just UserId to something else (maybe using something in the FormsAuthenticationTicket for the key?).

• XAML Deserialization problem

  Hi, I have a block of XAML of which i'm trying to deserialize. For arguments sake lets say it looks like below. <NS:SomeObject> <NS:SomeObject.SomeProperty> <NS:SomeDifferentObject SomeOtherProp="a value"/> </NS:SomeObject.SomeProperty> </NS:SomeObject> Of which i deserialise using the following code. XamlReader.Load( File.OpenRead( @"c:\SomeFile.xaml")) I have 2 solutions, one i use Unit Testing, and another i have for my web application. When i'm using the unit testing solution, it deserializes fine and works as expected. However, when i try to deserialize using my other project i keep getting an exception like the following. 'NameSpace.SomeObject' value cannot be assigned to property 'SomeProperty' of object 'NameSpace.SomeObject'. Object of Type 'NameSpace.SomeObject' cannot be converted to type 'NameSpace.SomeObject'. It's as if it is getting confused or instantiating 2 different types of objects? Note, i do not have similarly named classes or any sort of namespace conflict. The same codes executes fine in one solution and not the other. The same project files are referenced in both. Please help!

• - (void)keyboardWasShown not called when switching to another UITextField

  I'm having a strange problem that I don't understand. I have a UIScrollView with several UITextField objects. When I switch to the view, I set the first UITextField as firstresponder, and the keyboardWasShown method gets called due to the UIKeyboardDidShowNotification that the view is registered for. The weird thing is, when I touch the next UITextField, the keyboardWasShown method is not called. I don't understand this, since Apple's documentation says "If your interface has multiple text fields, the user can tap between them to edit the values in each one. When that happens, however, the keyboard does not disappear but the system does still generate UIKeyboardDidShowNotification notifications each time editing begins in a new text field." My code I've copied directly from Apple's documentation as well, and it works properly, but it only gets called the first time.   I'm trying to use the Django ORM in some standalone screen scraping scripts. I know this question has been asked before, but I'm unable to figure out a good solution for my particular problem. I have a Django project with defined models. What I would like to do is use these models and the ORM in my scraping script. My directory structure is something like this: project scrape #scraping scripts ... test.py web django_project settings.py ... #Django files I tried doing the following in project/scrape/test.py: print os.path.join(os.path.abspath('..'), 'web', 'django_project') sys.path.append(os.path.join(os.path.abspath('..'), 'web', 'django_project')) print sys.path print "-------" os.environ['DJANGO_SETTINGS_MODULE'] = 'django_project.settings' #print os.environ from django_project.myapp.models import MyModel print MyModel.objects.count() However, I get an ImportError when I try to run test.py: Traceback (most recent call last): File "test.py", line 12, in <module> from django_project.myapp.models import MyModel ImportError: No module named django_project.myapp.models One solution I found around this problem is to create a symbolic link to ../web/govcheck in the scrape folder: :scrape rmanocha$ ln -s ../web/govcheck ./govcheck With this, I can then run test.py just fine. However, this seems like a hack, and more importantly, is not very portable (I will have to create this symbolic link everywhere I run this code). So, I was wondering if anyone has any better solutions for my problem?
