• Django - use template tag and 'with'?

- by AP257
I have a custom template tag: def uploads_for_user(user): uploads = Uploads.objects.filter(uploaded_by=user, problem_upload=False) num_uploads = uploads.count() return num_uploads and I'd like to do something like this, so I can pluralize properly: {% with uploads_for_user leader as upload_count %} {{ upload_count }} upload{{ upload_count|pluralize }} {% endwith %} However, uploads_for_user leader doesn't work in this context, because the 'with' tag expects a single value - Django returns: TemplateSyntaxError at /upload/ u'with' expected format is 'value as name' Any idea how I can get round this?

• IE8 Session sharing across tabs and windows

- by Clint
Has anyone implemented any effective solutions to address the numerous issues that are caused by IE8's session sharing functionality? We've gotten very close by writing a custom http module that compares session and view state values, but our efforts are thwarted by things such as accelerator keys and unaccceptable copying of session objects. This is a VB.Net web app.

• Create cross platform Java SWT Application

- by mchr
I have written a Java GUI using SWT. I package the application using an ANT script (fragment below). <jar destfile="./build/jars/swtgui.jar" filesetmanifest="mergewithoutmain"> <manifest> <attribute name="Main-Class" value="org.swtgui.MainGui" /> <attribute name="Class-Path" value="." /> </manifest> <fileset dir="./build/classes" includes="**/*.class" /> <zipfileset excludes="META-INF/*.SF" src="lib/org.eclipse.swt.win32.win32.x86_3.5.2.v3557f.jar" /> </jar> This produces a single jar which on Windows I can just double click to run my GUI. The downside is that I have had to explicitly package the windows SWT package into my jar. I would like to be able to run my application on other platforms (primarily Linux and OS X). The simplest way to do it would be to create platform specific jars which packaged the appropriate SWT files into separate JARs. Is there a better way to do this? Is it possible to create a single JAR which would run on multiple platforms?

• Compiling GWT 2.6.1 at Java 7 source level

- by Neeko
I've recently updated my GWT project to 2.6.1, and started to make use of Java 7 syntax since 2.6 now supports Java 7. However, when I attempt to compile, I'm receiving compiler errors such as [ERROR] Line 42: '<>' operator is not allowed for source level below 1.7 How do I specify the GWT compiler to target 1.7? I was under the impression that it would do that by default, but I guess not. I've attempted cleaning the project, including deleting the gwt-unitCache directory but to no avail. Here is my Ant compile target. <target name="compile" depends="prepare"> <javac includeantruntime="false" debug="on" debuglevel="lines, vars, source" srcdir="${src.dir}" destdir="${build.dir}"> <classpath refid="project.classpath"/> </javac> </target> <target name="gwt-compile" depends="compile"> <java failonerror="true" fork="true" classname="com.google.gwt.dev.Compiler"> <classpath> <pathelement location="${src.dir}"/> <pathelement location="${build.dir}"/> </classpath> <jvmarg value="-Xmx256M"/> <arg value="${gwt.module.name}"/> </java> </target>

• GWT - Reusing Callback Class

- by moorsu
My custom callback class implements AsyncCallback (like MyAsyncCallback implements AsyncCallback) and planning use single instance of MyAsyncCallback for multiple rpc method executions. Is this approach safe?. Or should have to create new instance of MyAsyncCallback for every interaction from browser to server?. I am kind of tired of seeing so many anonymous AsyncCallback code blocks. Thanks for your input

• Rails partial gets double escaped when using link_to_function

- by dombesz
Hi, I have the following code. def add_resume_link(name, form) link_to_function name do |page| html = form.fields_for :resumes, @general_resume.resumes.build, :child_index => 'NEW_RECORD' do |form_parent| render :partial => 'resume_form', :locals=>{:form=>form_parent} end page << "$('resumes').insert({ bottom: '#{escape_javascript(html)}'.replace(/NEW_RECORD/g, id) });" end end And on the resume_form i have somewhere: =add_skill_link("Add Skill", form, "resume_#{id}_skills") and the function looks like: def add_skill_link(name, form, id) link_to_function name do |page| html = form.fields_for :skill_items, @general_resume.skill_items.build, :child_index => 'NEW_RECORD' do |form_parent| render :partial=>'skill_form', :locals=>{:form=>form_parent, :parent=>id} end page << "$('#{id}').insert({ bottom: '#{escape_javascript(html)}'.replace(/NEW_RECORD/g, new Date().getTime()) });" end end So basically i have a javascript code which dinamically adds a piece of html (add_resume) and contains another javascript code which dinamically adds a select box to the page. My problem is that the add_skill_link works fine if i use from the server side, i mean rendering from server side. And gets double escaped when using within the upper described way. I tried to remove the escape_javascript from the add_skill_link bit still not good. Any ideas?

• One-liner javascript to collect values from object graph?

- by Kevin Pauli
Given the following object graph: { "children": [ { "child": { "pets": [ { "pet": { "name": "fido" } }, { "pet": { "name": "fluffy" } } ] } }, { "child": { "pets": [ { "pet": { "name": "spike" } } ] } } ] } What would be a nice one-liner (or two) to collect the names of my grandchildren's pets? The result should be ["fido", "fluffy", "spike"] I don't want to write custom methods for this... I'm looking for something like the way jQuery works in selecting dom nodes, where you can just give it a CSS-like path and it collects them up for you. I would expect the expression path to look something like "children child pets pet name"

• Equivalent of IllegalArgumentException of Java in C++

- by vito
In Java if an input argument to a method is invalid, we can throw an IllegalArgumentException (which is of type RuntimeException). In C++, there is no notion of checked and unchecked exceptions. Is there a similar exception in standard C++ which can be used to indicate a runtime exception? Or is there a common style not in the standard but everyone follows in practice for a situation like this? Or, should I just create my own custom exception and throw it?

I have customized the PropertyGrid control and override only OnPaint function. protected override void OnPaint(PaintEventArgs pe) { base.OnPaint(pe); } In my application I have few more controls (treeview, custom control and few form controls). When I mouseclick on the PropertyGrid control, the paint function in all the controls in the screen are being called continuously and the treeview starts flickering. This happens only in mouseclick event.

• Android - Adding external library to project

- by mmontalbo
Hi, I am having a lot of trouble adding the WEKA library to a project I am working on. I have followed several tutorials that explain how to do this including the Android Developers guide: http://developer.android.com/guide/appendix/faq/commontasks.html#addexternallibrary and several of the postings on SO. I have created a folder in my project with the weka.jar file, created a new library (adding the weka.jar file to the library) and included this library in my build path. I have also added the library under the "Order and Export" tab in the project properties. I have also tried importing the jar file so that the actual contents of the jar are extracted into a directory in my project. The end result of all of this is that my project is able to build correctly and without error, but when it comes time to run my code on the emulator I get the following exception: 04-10 22:52:21.051: ERROR/dalvikvm(582): Could not find class 'weka.classifiers.trees.J48', referenced from method edu.usc.student.composure.classifier.GaitClassifierImpl. with J48 being the class I reference in my code. Does anyone have any additional suggestions that I may have overlooked? Thanks!

• Dynamically Creating Flex Components In ActionScript

- by Joshua
Isn't there some way to re-write the following code, such that I don't need a gigantic switch statement with every conceivable type? Also, if I can replace the switch statement with some way to dynamically create new controls, then I can make the code smaller, more direct, and don't have to anticipate the possibility of custom control types. Before: <mx:WindowedApplication xmlns:mx="http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml" layout="vertical"> <mx:Script> import mx.containers.HBox; import mx.controls.Button; import mx.controls.Label; public function CreateControl(event:Event):void { var Type:String=Edit.text; var NewControl:Object; switch (Type) { case 'mx.controls::Label':NewControl=new Label();break; case 'mx.controls::Button':NewControl=new Button();break; case 'mx.containers::HBox':NewControl=new HBox();break; ... every other type, including unforeseeable custom types } this.addChild(NewControl as DisplayObject); } </mx:Script> <mx:Label text="Control Type"/> <mx:TextInput id="Edit"/> <mx:Button label="Create" click="CreateControl(event);"/> </mx:WindowedApplication> AFTER: <mx:WindowedApplication xmlns:mx="http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml" layout="vertical"> <mx:Script> import mx.containers.HBox; import mx.controls.Button; import mx.controls.Label; public function CreateControl(event:Event):void { var Type:String=Edit.text; var NewControl:Object= *???*(Type); this.addChild(NewControl as DisplayObject); } </mx:Script> <mx:Label text="Control Type"/> <mx:TextInput id="Edit"/> <mx:Button label="Create" click="CreateControl(event);"/> </mx:WindowedApplication>

• Maven (EJB) project with client and server artifacts

- by Cornel Masson
Here's my variation on the "multiple artifacts from Maven build" question: I'm porting from Ant to Maven. My application is an EJB server that is packaged as an EAR, but it also exposes a client JAR for use by other client apps. This jar contains the EJB interfaces, facade class and some helpers. I know that the Maven way is to have one artifact per project (POM); however, both artifacts (server EAR and client JAR) need to be built from the same source tree - server and client share, for example, the EJB and 'home' interfaces. How do I do this in Maven? Do I have one project containing two POMs, say server-pom.xml & client-pom.xml? I was thinking I could also have a parent POM (pom.xml) that can be used to build both client and server with one foul swoop? However, the lifecycles diverge after the 'package' phase, since the server has to go through assembly (tar/gzip), while the client is done after 'package' and can simply be installed into the repository. Any advice/experience on the best way to approach this?

• Drupal 7: Create a taxonomy term for each node and use the node title as the term name

- by Spre3
Is there anyway of doing this by using rules or by some custom code? I did try using rules but I can't find a way of adding a new term and set the name as the node title because the [node:title] token is not avilable. I know this is possible using the NAT module but the way this module changes the taxonomy terms hierarchy if you add a term reference field that uses the same taxonomy vocabulary which ruins the whole purpose of what I am trying to do.

• Can a Page.PrePrender event be fired before Page.Load event handler called return?

- by flashnik
A Page.PreRender event is guaranteed to be fired after Page.Load event is fired. But is it guaranteed to be fired after Load event handler returned? A more general question is if event lifecycle of ASP.Net page guarantees that each event is fired only after previous has returned or events can be fired while previous is still executing? How does answer change if previous event fires some custom event such as DataBound? Can such event be executed in parallel with another event in page lifecycle?
