• Web service URL being overwritten with localhost

  I have a reference to a web service on a remote server like such... http://10.5.1.121/PersonifyWebServicePPROD/UniversalWebService/default.wsdl The moment I invoke the web service and view its URL property it looks like... http://localhost/PersonifyWebServicePPROD/UniversalWebService/default.asmx Can anyone tell me why it's overwriting the remote server with localhost? The vendor that provided the web service said I have to reference the wsdl and not the asmx in order for it to work. I've tried running it both within IIS and as a web app on the filesystem and neither scenario work. This is on the .Net 3.5 framework.

  Hello, I have to write a javascript function that is returning the current size (in px) of a div. Unfortunately the div has its weight specified in % instead of px. The style of the div: position: absolute; width: 100%; height: 100%; And my width returning function: function getTableWidth(tableId){ var tabWidth = document.getElementById('pt1::tabb').children[0].children[0].style.width; return tabWidth; } tabWidth is '100%'. Is it possible to return the px width instead of the % width ? NOTE: I don't have access to any html/css , as the page I am working on is generated through a complex framework. I can only embed javascript.

  Hello Im building a new version of an iPhone application and Im wondering if I should review how my app communicates with the server. My iPhone client sends and receives XML over HTTP requests. To send the information I use ASIHTTPRequest framework. I "manually" build the XML request by appending strings. To parse the response Im using a NSXMLParser. My question is if I have better options to A) Create an XML string from a memory object. B) Create a memory object from the XML string. Is there anything like JAXB to marshal XML into object?   Hi, Does anyone know of a C-based open source class / framework which can generate a random jigsaw puzzle from an image or generate a random puzzle template which could then be applied to an image? The puzzle pieces must have male and female notches/holes. There should be more than one template so that the puzzle does not become too easy. The target system is iOS / Mac. If not, how would you approach this problem? The puzzle pieces should be as close to a real jigsaw piece shape as possible and the system must be dynamic so that the user can use their own photos or download photos. thanks!

• How easy would it be to refactor a small JSP/Servlet/JDBC project to SpringMVC/Hibernate

  With reference to this post, I am considering starting a new web-based Java project. Since I don't know Spring/Hibernate I was concerned if it's a bad plan to start learning them while creating a new project, especially since it will slow down the early development. One idea I had was to write a prototype using tech I do know, namely JSP/Servlets/JDBC, since I can get this running much quicker with my current knowledge. I could then throw the whole thing away and start over with Spring, etc, but I'd like to consider how easy it would be to refactor a smallish project from JSP/Servlets/JDB to SpringMVC/Hibernate? My DB could of course be re-used but what about other code... would I expect to save most of it plugged into an MVC framework, or is the paradigm shift big enough this would cause more trouble than it avoids? Please use the other question for more general advice on choosing technologies

• Rotate view of PDF on a WinForm

  I have to display a PDF inside a winform (c# on .net 2.0 framework). For now, I am using the ActiveX PDF control provided by Adobe. I have to disable the entire control so that a user can't print or save via right-click or hotkeys. Unfortunately, many of the documents need to be rotated (just viewed, not permanently saved that way). I'd like to allow them to rotate the view by pressing a button control. I've tried enabling the control then programmatically sending the hotkeys (ctrl shift +) using SendKeys and SendInput but the timing issues make this a non-viable solution. I've asked on the proper Adobe boards and they said it was not possible being that all of my clients will only have the reader version installed.

  Is there way to test for both 0 and NULL with one equality operator? I realize I could do this: WHERE field = 0 OR field IS NULL But my life would be a hundred times easier if this would work: WHERE field IN (0, NULL) (btw, why doesn't that work?) I've also read about converting NULL to 0 in the SELECT statement (with COALESCE). The framework I'm using would also make this unpleasant. Realize this is oddly specific, but is there any way to test for 0 and NULL with one WHERE predicate?

  I develop an application that uses the chromium embedded framework's control. I write in C++. I would like to use CEF mechanizm to localize an application if it exists. Can i embed the application's customized strings into CEF .pak files (en-US.pak and so on) so that i can retrieve these locolized strings in run-time? If so how can i embed them and how can i retrieve a given embedded string in my application code? If .pak files is not a case then is there other ability to localize an application through CEF?   I'm building a Dashboard and for some stupid reasons my boss wants to load it in a frame on the homepage (yes a frame, he still lives in the 1990s). Anyway, sometimes the dashboard needs some room so that it can show all charts correctly, so I want to add a feature to load the content of the dashboard into a new window. The problem is that, if the user has had some interaction with the dashboard, it will contain modal dialogs, new images, etc... so I want to load all the dashboard content into a new window without reloading its content. Of course, the user should be able to continue browsing the dashboard without problems. How can I do that? I'm using jQuery as my JavaScript framework.

• Asp.net MVC database connection setting in Visual studio 2008

  I am trying to learn Asp.net MVC framework. I was looking at the video tutorial at the link below http://www.asp.net/learn/mvc-videos/video-395.aspx In this video the very first step is to add a new database to the example application. I have visual studio installed on my development machine but the SqlServer Express is running on a different machine, so when I try and add a new database following the same steps as the video I get the following error "Connections to SQL Server files(*.mdf) require SQL express 2005 to funciton properly. Please verify the installation of the component or download from the url" I am assuming this is because Visual studio is looking for an instance of SQL express on my local machine and since it doesnt exist on the local machine,it errors out. So how do i tell visual studio, to connect to a different machine and create the database there? I am using Visual studio 2008 with .net 3.5 Sp1

  I have seen mention of a bunch of external JSF Libraries such as ICEfaces, Richfaces, etc. However, I am unsure as to what these libraries actually add over just using JSF 2.0. Are they just additional components that are pre-built? I know that PrettyFaces adds URL rewriting, and I Believe that ICEFaces/Richfaces add Ajax enabled components? What are some other major component libraries, what are their benefits / why should people use them? Additionally, what does a framework like SEAM add over using straight JSF2 with EJB? Is MYFaces simply a different implementation of JSF?

• A tool to determine jar dependencies based on existing code?

  Is there a tool that can determine .jar dependencies given a directory of .jar files and a separate directory of java source code? I need to generate Eclipse .classpath files based on an existing code base that doesn't have any dependencies defined. To be more specific, I've been given a large codebase consisting of a dozen or so J2EE-style projects and a single directory of jar files. My client uses a custom development and build framework that is just too arcane for me to use and get any real work done. The projects do not have any information about their dependencies, either between projects or to jar libraries. I would expect this tool would have to spin through each jar file, indexing the classes available in that file and then go through each file in the project source code tree and match up the dependencies, possibly writing out a .classpath file with the required jar files. I realize this is a rather simplistic view of the operation, as duplicate classes among the jar files and such might make things more difficult.

  I have a situation where I need to extract dates from the file names whose general pattern is [filename_]YYYYMMDD[.fileExtension] e.g. "xxx_20100326.xls" or x2v_20100326.csv The below program does the work //Number of charecter in the substring is set to 8 //since the length of YYYYMMDD is 8 public static string ExtractDatesFromFileNames(string fileName) { return fileName.Substring(fileName.IndexOf("_") + 1, 8); } Is there any better option of achieving the same?   I'm learning Python and decided to start familiarizing myself with the (defacto?) Python web framework - django. I have successfully installed the latest release of django. I want a simple 'hello world' website that will get me up and running quickly. I am already familiar with web frameworks (albeit for different languages) - so I just need a simple 'hello world' example website to help me get going. Ideally, I don't want to mess up with my Apache server settings (as I am still experimenting), so I want to use the lightweight web server that django bundles. I cant seem to find how to do this on the django website though - no doubt someone will post a link and shame me ... So, does anyone know of a link that shows how to get a simple 'hello world' django website up and running with minimal fuss?

• Avoiding try/catch hell in my web pages

  I am writing an ASP.NET website, which is a new framework for me. I find that I have a try/catch block in literally every method of my codebehind. All these try/catch blocks do is catch the exception and then pop-up an error message to the user. Isn't there some sort of global error handler in ASP.NET? It's worth noting that my error handling is within control (ASCX) pages, and I would like a way to simply get each ASCX to handle its own errors without forcing all error handling just to a single master page or a redirect...

  I have done some good reading on the new java.util.concurrent features being introduced with the java 7 release. For instance, Phaser, TransferQueue and the more exciting Fork Join Framework. I recently saw a power point made by Josh Bloch about even more features that are going to be introduced however that link has been lost. For example I remember one change is being able to build a Map the same way you can build an array for: Map myMap = {"1,Dog","2,Cat"}; and so forth (this may not be 100% correct but the idea is there) Does anyone know of a list or just can name some new things to look forward to? • How to return an enum ID instead of the enum text in WebAPI

  I am using the WebAPI with .NET 4.5. I have a enum called DareStatus which is a list of statuses and their corresponding integer ID's. To minimize bandwidth traffic I want to send the int values of the enums, not the full text as it is currently doing. (I have control over the client so I can map it on the clientside). • Why are some C#4 features allowed even when targeting 3.5?

  We upgraded to VS 2010, but we haven't yet upgraded to .NET 4.0. All of our projects are still explicitly targeting 3.5. Today, a developer checked in code that looked like this: delegate T Generator<out T>(); As far as I know, "in T" and "out T" are C# 4.0 features. According to our build server, which doesn't have .NET 4.0 installed on it, I'm right. The check-in broke the build. But, why the heck does it build on his machine? Why is VS just ignoring the target framework for the project? Other C# 4.0 features, like the dynamic keyword, do not build on the developer's machine.

  Hello, I am developing an application which has several CRUD actions... I am using Java and i am forced to use Struts framework. My problem is: I have a search page which returns some results.The user can click at a result and then he goes to another edit-page... He may apply changes or not...What i need is a way to return at the result page again and at the same scroll position.Javascript must be enabled for this project however.. I am wondering which is the best practice to achieve this effect... A solution would be to save the last search URL but i know that this wouldnt work if the user has multiple results. I know how to do it but i am lloking for a good practice!

  Noob question (because I'm a noob when it comes to Web development). I'm not sure whether I should ask it here or at ServerFault. I am developing an ASP.NET Web Service and a PHP Web site consuming the Web Service. They are meant to be run on different machines. However, only for development purposes, I need to run both on my machine. I cannot use virtual machines. I would like to know if it is possible to configure IIS Apache to host both my Web Service and my Web site? Or, do I need to host the PHP site using Apache? I am using IIS 7.5 Apache HTTP Server 2.2 (NOTE: I have nothing against Apache. In fact, so far I like it more than IIS, however, I would rather not have two Web server applications installed in the same machine.)
