• What frameworks exist for data subscription and update?

  There is one server with multiple clients. The clients are viewing subsets of the servers entire data. If the data that a client is viewing changes, the client should be informed of the changes so that it displays the current data. Example: Two clients are viewing a list of users in an administration screen. One client adds a new user to the list and modifies the permissions of another user. The other client sees the changes propagated to their view. In the client side code I would like the users list to be updated by the framework itself, raising changed events such that it will be redrawn - similar to 'cells' or dataflow. I am looking specifically for a .NET or java implementation.

  To test a polling function I want to mock the calling of a sub function so that the first time it is called it will fail, and the second time it is called it will succeed. Here's a very simplified version of it: poll_function(var1): value = sub_function(var1) # First call will return None while not value: time.sleep(POLLING_INTERVAL) value = sub_function(var1) # A subsequent call will return a string, e.g "data" return value Is this possible to do with a Mock object from the mock framework? I know Mock objects have a call_count attribute I should be able to use somehow. • Debugging compiled .NET 2.0 application

  I don't know if I'll pass all the necessary information here, but I've only been asked to post this question here and I'm not entirely onto the matter. There is a .NET Framework 2.0 application compiled in the Debug mode with the parameter jitDebugging set to true in app.config <system.windows.forms jitDebugging="true" /> After any crash we get the dialog box allowing us to send a report or to debug the program. When we choose to debug and select proper VS, the IDE starts but with the announcement: No symbols are loaded for any call stack frame. The source code cannot be displayed. and Disassembly cannot be displayed in run mode. Is there any possiblity to see the code or the spot where the crash has occured?

• Is it possible to set different select2 parameters at different times?

  From playing around I can see that this code $("#Selected3").select2({ minimumInputLength: 3 }); $("#Selected3").select2({ placeholder: "Show a placeholder" }); will show me the placeholder but remove the minimumInputLength parameters value. Does anyone know a way please that this example could be modified so that the placeholder will be added without losing the minimum..Length value. Any answers will need to allow for the possibility of the statements being in separate files, i.e. one on the page and another in a referenced .js file. I am aware that this would be much easier if I set all the parameters at once, e.g. $("#Selected3").select2({ minimumInputLength: 3, placeholder: "Show a placeholder" }); but I am working within a framework which won't currently allow that. • How do I get User.message_set messages to show up for the built in test client?

  I'm aware that the old Django messages framework is deprecated, but I still would like to know the answer to this. When I go to a certain url to my broswer, a message is created, I am redirected to a different page, and I see the message correctly displayed by my template. When the test client goes to the same url, the message is created, it gets a redirect, and after following the redirect there are no messages. However, no messages appear in the response (the response gotten from following the redirect). Why not?

• Suspend TimerTask until the next execution

  I am using a TimerTask to run some periodic tasks, the task being processing a set of files. I have a requirement where if the number of files to be processed exceeds a pre-determined limit, the thread suspends execution and waits till the next cycle to start processing the files again. Is there a way to suspend the TimerTask until the next execution period or do I have to extend the TimerTask class to achieve this functionality? I saw there is a TimerTask.cancel method, but this will cancel all further executions of this thread. I don't want this to happen. I just want the thread to be suspended until the next execution period. I don't have the luxury of moving to any of the other concurrent classes in Java as our framework uses TimerTask, and I have to stick with it. Any suggestions, pointers or tips are greatly appreciated. thanks, Asha

• Qt/C++ regular expression library with unicode property support

  I'm converting an application from the .Net framework to Qt using C++. The application makes extensive use of regular expression unicode properties, i.e. \p{L}, \p{M}, etc. I've just discovered that the QRegExp class lacks support for this among other things (lookbehinds, etc.) Can anyone recommend a C++ regular expression library that: Supports unicode properties Is unicode-aware in other respects (i.e. \w matches more than ASCII word characters) As a bonus, supports lookbehinds. Please don't point me to the wikipedia article; I don't trust it. That article says that QRegExp supports unicode properties. Unless I'm really doing something wrong, it doesn't. I'm looking for someone actually using unicode properties with a regex library in a project.

And, I believe that might be interesting for people where I live (Internet is not developed - but the cellphone networks are much better). So here are my questions: Where can I find documentation for beginners on that matter (And most importantly) Am I gonna be able to take advantage of acquired knowledge in .NET framework (C#, MVC, JQuery, XHTML, ...)? Am I gonna need my laptop or a special device to develop applications? Am I gonna need Visual Studio? And so on... I've done research on Backbone.js, but I'm still confused as to exactly how this code pull information from the app's database. For example, how are base_url, Model.prototype, and Collection.prototype being used to retrieve information from the backend? • New to VS.net (VB.net) 2008. Windows 7 aero glass stuff.

  Hey all, i have been using VB.net 2008 for a few months and i have a question. I compiled my program and ran it in a VM running windows 7. However, the progress bar looks like it does in XP. It doesn't have that cool look to it like I've seen in many other programs running in windows 7. I have downloaded the 3.5 .net framework with sp1 and also the sdk for windows 7 (1.4+ gb dvd) but i still see nothing. Is there a check-box i am missing in VS 2008 to enable these types of features? Maybe some type of code i need to place in the program? Thanks! David

• Quick to develop web app in Java

  Hi all, I need to develop a basic web app very quickly (1 week) for a demo. My requirements are Java (I need to make use of existing Java libraries to access the relevant data) 2 screens One for static data view, maybe some search parameters Other for basic form entry No fancy AJAX required Ideally easy for a web designer to come in and tart it up as necessary, without having to rewrite everything My first stop was going to be to checkout Wicket as I've heard good things about it. I don't have the time right now to dive into anything heavy, which probably writes off JSF in my mind (I played with JSF1, steep learning curve which I've now slid back down). I'm happy to treat the result as throwaway so if there's a framework which starts of well but then doesn't scale up to bigger projects, that would be ok. Any suggestions appreciated on frameworks/approach.

Hosting a site on godaddy, the site is developed in codeigniter framework(php), to get pretty url, put this into .htacess RewriteEngine on RewriteCond $1 !^(index\.php|images|robots\.txt) RewriteRule ^(.*)$ /index.php/$1 [L] problem is only domain.com/index.php seems to work, other urls e.g domain.com/user/login won't work, codeigniter always returns '404 page'. Is there anything going on with godaddy's mod_rewrite or just their apache which as I know is version 1.3. Any clue? [update] a bit CI debug, found /system/libraries/Router.php line 239, line show_404( $segments[0] ); always gets invoded. $segments [ 0='index.php' ], that seems to be the problem, but why? All works on my dev box which is in apache2

• background music stops after 3/4 runs in iphone app

  I am playing sounds in loop in my app. So it should continue playing through out the app. but sometimes it stops after playing sound for 3/4 times.I don't understand whats happening. I am using audio-toolbox framework for playing sound. creating audio queue and then playing sounds in loop. I am also playing sound from ipod library using mediaplayer. Same thing happening with song from ipod. I have set [musicPlayer setRepeatMode: MPMusicRepeatModeOne]; but still it stops after 3/4 times.

  Hi, I'm using MS log application block for logging my application event into a file called app-trace.log which located on the c:\temp folder. I'm trying to find the best way to read this file at runtime and display it when the user asks for it. now i have 2 issues: it seems that this kind of feature is not supported by the framework, hence i have to write this reader myself. am i missing something here? is there any better way of getting this data (w/o buffering it in the memory or saving it into another file). if i'm taking the only alternative that left for me, and implementing the reader myself, when i'm tring to do: System.IO.FileStream fs = new System.IO.FileStream(@"c:\temp\app-trace.log", FileMode.Open, FileAccess.Read); i'm getting "File being used by another process c#", probably the file is locked by the application block. is there any way to access and read it anyhow? • [C#] Creating standalone, console (shell) for domain-specific operations

  Say that I have a system service, and I want to offer a low-level maintenance access to it. For that purpose, I'd like to create a standalone, console application that somehow connects to server process and lets user type in commands, allow it to use auto-completion and auto-suggestion on single/double TAB press (just like linux bash shell, mysql cli, cmd.exe, and countless others), allow command line editing capabilities (history, cursor keys to move around text..), etc. Now, it's not that much of a problem to create something like that by rolling my own from scratch, handling user input, scanning pressed keys, and doing correct actions. But, why reinvent the wheel? Is there some library/framework that helps with this kind of problems, just like readline library that offers improved command-line editing capabilities under linux? Of course, this new "shell" would respond only to valid, domain-specific commands, and would suggest valid arguments, options, switches... Any ideas? Thanks!

  Is there a framework which can be used in your application, to make it expose internal objects on some port for inspection. for.e.g. after i start my application in this case a GUI Application, and then say launch http://localhost:9100 then it should show me the statistics of the app. I played a bit with HttpListener accepting connections and then outputting raw HTML, it works fine for simple tasks, but there is too much worked involved if i have make a proper object browser.   So, I have a web site that has been compromised twice in two weeks. every index.php and .js file gets a script injecting into the source code of the file. The problem is that I have no idea how they're doing it. I've seen this done via sql injection before, but I don't know how they are actually writing to the file. I've dug through the Apache logs but didn't find anything interesting. The site is built using the cakephp framework on a godaddy shared server. Anybody know what secturity settings or log files to check to see how they are doing this?

  I have NUnit installed at this directory. C:\Program Files\NUnit 2.5.5\bin\net-2.0 When I try to run my unit test (mut.dll) in some random directory. I get the following error. I have to copy the mut.dll under the NUnit directory in order to run it. ProcessModel: Default DomainUsage: Single Execution Runtime: net-2.0 Could not load file or assembly 'nunit.framework, Version=2.5.5.10112, Culture=n eutral, PublicKeyToken=96d09a1eb7f44a77' or one of its dependencies. The system cannot find the file specified. What's wrong? Is there anything that I have to configure to run NUNit under any directory?

• What are the latest options in Java logging frameworks?

  This question gets asked periodically, but I've long felt that existing Java logging frameworks were overcomplicated and over-engineered, and I want to see what's new. I have a more critical issue on my current project as we've standardized on JSON as our human-readable data encoding, and most logging frameworks I've seen require XML. I would really rather avoid using JSON for 95% of my apps configuration, and XML for the rest just because of the logging framework (truth be told, I hate XML used for anything other than text markup, its original intended purpose). Are there any hot new Java logging frameworks that are actively maintained, reasonably powerful, have a maven repo, can be reconfigured without restarting your app, and don't tie you to XML?

  Hi, We have a Web asp.net application running in the framework 2.0 and hosted in an IIS 6 server, and the OS is windows server 2003. The web application is suing a client certificate to be authenticated by a web service. We have impersonalized the application pool with de user “Network Service”. The problem is when we have to access to the private key of the certificate that is stored in the machine key/my storage. The user Network Service cannot access the key. We have given privileges to the Network Service user using the winhttpcertcfg.exe tool, however the result is the same. When we impersonalize the application pool with the local administrator the result is successfully. Therefore we think that the problem is the privileges of the user. I have been using the GetExportedValues() method and the PartCreationPolicy(CreationPolicy.NonShared) to fake a class factory (since only the silverlight version supports a factory). This was working great until I upgraded the project to use .net 4.0. There is no error, it just doesn't work. So why did this code stop working?
