• php import to mysql hosted on godaddy

  Yeah, I know! It's not my choice. I am doing a large data import using a PHP script into a mysql DB hosted on godaddy. It seems their mysql connection gets killed every few hours regardless of what work it's doing. Their tech support is useless, and I've exhausted myself writing attempted workarounds. Right now, I'm trying to do a mysql_ping every few minutes, and if the ping returns false, I attempt to open up a new db connection. My script (which takes many hours to complete), keeps failing with the very unhelpful message of "mysql server has gone away". I understand mysql trying to close a connection that's been open too long, but the connection is not idle-- it's busy basically the whole time, and with the pings I've written in, it should not be idle longer than 5 minutes at most at any time. (These same scripts work with no errors on Amazon AWS servers, my local servers, etc.) Any help most appreciated! I'm about to give up.

• Flex: Linebreak problem with spark.components.TextArea inside a MXDataGridItemRenderer

  Hi, I have a DataGrid that has a MXDataGridItemRenderer applied as an itemEditor to one of the columns. The editor includes a spark.components.TextArea control. By default, any text item editor of a datagrid closes itself when [enter] key is pressed.. • Catch a thread's exception in the caller thread in Python

  Hi Everyone, I'm very new to Python and multithreaded programming in general. Basically, I have a script that will copy files to another location. I would like this to be placed in another thread so I can output "...." to indicate that the script is still running. The problem that I am having is that if the files cannot be copied it will throw an exception. This is ok if running in the main thread; however, having the following code does not work: try: threadClass = TheThread(param1, param2, etc.) threadClass.start() ##### **Exception takes place here** except: print "Caught an exception" In the thread class itself, I tried to re-throw the exception, but it does not work. I have seen people on here ask similar questions, but they all seem to be doing something more specific than what I am trying to do (and I don't quite understand the solutions offered). I have seen people mention the usage of sys.exc_info(), however I do not know where or how to use it. All help is greatly appreciated! • Scrolling to the bottom of a div on page load: issue with syntaxhighlighter

  I've been using this code: var objDiv = document.getElementById("code"); objDiv.scrollTop = objDiv.scrollHeight; to scroll to the very bottom of the div. It worked perfectly in FF and Chrome (I asked a question about it not working in Chrome a few days ago, but it appears the guy who was testing it on Chrome was incorrect, so I tested it myself) until I started syntax highlighting the code that I put in the div with SyntaxHighlighter. Before, I was putting the code in a <p> and breaking lines with <br />, but the <br /> stuff doesn't fly with SyntaxHighlighter, so I replaced all of those with newlines (not entirely certain if this is important, but it's worth mentioning). Now, when the page loads, it does scroll, but not all the way down. It scrolls nearly to the bottom. I've tried all the methods listed in the other question I mentioned but they all do the same thing, or nothing at all. Is there anything else I can try? Here is the relevant piece of the generated HTML.   Hello, I am a newbi programmer and am having trouble with a measurement conversion program I am working on. What I would like to do is have several EditText boxes. When one is filled in and a calculate button is hit then the rest will be populated with a converted number. The part I am getting stuck on is outputting the answers to EditText widgets. ex: There are three EditText Widgets. a user inputs the number 6 into the first one (labeled inches) and presses calculate. I would like the next box to display .5 (labeled feet) and the last to display .1666 (this would be yards) .setText() apparently does not work to modify the text in an EditText any help would be greatly appreciated.

• Flash/uploadify filereference.upload not working, unknown reason

  I've been using the uploadify jquery for a long time - this tool has been working on several different servers for quite a while. Recently, on rackspace cloud sites accounts, the uploads stopped working. There's been no change to our code and our code works perfectly on other servers. I'm having trouble finding the issue, here's what happens: The filereference.upload is called, we provide all of the proper info - url, filename, etc The URL is http, and is correct. When visited through a web browser it works All debugging and tracing show that our code is running correctly The DataEvent.UPLOAD_COMPLETE_DATA evens never trigger The ProgressEvent.PROGRESS events never trigger. Server access logs and application traffic logs never show any requests coming to the upload script. Based on all of this info, it seems that: Our script works fine, file.upload is called properly Event.OPEN is fired. Traffic never reaches the server No io/http errors are called. file.upload does return false, but it also returns false on servers that the upload works, and the complete events are called. We're not using any firewalls or proxies on our end, and these tools work perfectly on other servers. But, these sites that are on the rackspace cloud sites all share this problem. However, a site that was in development a few months ago worked just fine on the same rackspace ckoud sites account. Trying the flash build from that version still won't work now. How can I go about finding out what's breaking between the file.upload and the reaching the server?

But I dont exactly know what is the problem and why we should use this above mentioned method. I would appreciate if someone please tell me why this function is not getting called and how to call it. • After travelling back in Firefox history, javascript won't run.

  When I use the back button on Firefox to reach a previously visited page, scripts on that page won't run again. Is there any fix/workaround to have the scripts execute again when viewing the page the second time? Please note that I have tested the same pages on Google Chrome and Internet Explorer and they work as intended. • How to detect changing directory size in Perl

  Hello, I am trying to find a way of monitoring directories in Perl, in particular the size of a directory, and upon detecting a change in directory size, perform a particular action. The issue I have is with large files that require a noticeable amount of time to copy into this directory, i.e. 100MB. What happens (in Windows, not Unix) is the system reserves enough disk space for the entire file, even though the file is still copying in progress. This causes problems for me, because my script will try to perform an action on this file that has not finished copying over. I can easily detect directory size changes in Unix via 'du', but 'du' in Windows does not behave the same way. Are there any accurate methods of detecting directory size changes in Perl? Edit: Some points to clarify: - My Perl script is only monitoring a particular directory, and upon detecting a new file or a new directory, perform an action on this new file or directory. It is not copying any files; users on the network will be copying files into the directory I am monitoring. - The problem occurs when a new file or directory appears (copied, not moved) that is significantly large ( 100MB, but usually a couple GB) and my program fires before this copy completes - In Unix I can easily 'du' to see that the file/directory in question is growing in size, and take the appropriate action - In Windows the size is static, so I cannot detect this change - opendir/readdir/closedir is not feasible, as some of the directories that appear may contain thousands of files, and I want to avoid the overhead of Ideally I would like my program to be triggered on change, but I am not sure how to do this. As of right now it busy waits until it detects a change. The change in file/directory size is not in my control.

• PHP specifying a fixed include source for scripts in different directories

  I am currently doing unit testing, and use folders to organize my test cases. All cases pertaining to managing of user accounts, for example, go under \tests\accounts. Over time, there are more test cases, and I begin to seperate the cases by types, such as \tests\accounts\create, \tests\account\update and etc. However, one annoying problem is I have to specify the path to a set of common includes. I have to use includes like this: include_once ("../../../../autoload.php"); include_once ("../../../../init.php"); A test case in tests\accounts\ would require change to the include (one less directory level down). Is there anyway to have them somehow locating my two common includes? I understand I could set include paths within my PHP's configurations, or use server environment variables, but I would like to avoid such solutions as they make the application less portable and coupled with another layer which the programmer can't control (some web-host doesn't allow configuration of PHP's configuration settings, for example)

• How do I retrieve an automated report and save it to a database?

  I've got a web server that will take scripts in Python, PHP or Perl. I don't know much about any of those languages, but of the three, Python seems the least scary. It has a MySql database set up, and I know enough SQL to manage it and write queries for it. I also have a program that I want to add automated error reporting to. Something goes wrong, it sends a bug report to my server. What I don't know how to do is write a Python script that will sit on the web server and, when my program sends in a bug report, do the following: Receive the bug report. Parse it out into sections. Insert it into the database. Have the server send me an email. From what little I understand, this seems like it shouldn't be too difficult if I only knew what I was doing. Could someone point me to a site that explains the basic principles I'd need to create a script like this?

  What do I have to do to make 20k mysql inserts per second possible (during peak hours around 1k/sec during slower times)? I've been doing some research and I've seen the "INSERT DELAYED" suggestion, writing to a flat file, "fopen(file,'a')", and then running a chron job to dump the "needed" data into mysql, etc. I've also heard you need multiple servers and "load balancers" which I've never heard of, to make something like this work. I've also been looking at these "cloud server" thing-a-ma-jigs, and their automatic scalability, but not sure about what's actually scalable. The application is just a tracker script, so if I have 100 websites that get 3 million page loads a day, there will be around 300 million inserts a day. The data will be ran through a script that will run every 15-30 minutes which will normalize the data and insert it into another mysql table. How do the big dogs do it? How do the little dogs do it? I can't afford a huge server anymore so any intuitive ways, if there are multiple ways of going at it, you smart people can think of.. please let me know :)

I need to detect when the user has clicked the start button on the video so to stop the slideshow and allow the user to view the video.   I am using the flowplayer jquery tabs plugin: http://flowplayer.org/tools/tabs/index.html Im having mucho difficulty when placing my child elements inside the panes divs, and stopping them from inheriting the style of the container pane div. Its breaking my layout to pieces and i need to know how to override the style and just keep the container panes div only to itself. Also, im having a devil of a time trying to call 2 different sets of tabs and panes. Im not getting the classes and IDs right, the javascript, or something along those lines. How would i set this up so i can call (tabs A / panes A) and then (tabs B / panes B), css wise, and javascript wise? • How do I animate text links in jquery?

  I am somewhat new to jquery and I have a problem with something I am trying to implement using jquery. I have a vertical navigation menu where each link animates on hover by changing color, increasing letter spacing, and adding a border on the left. Everything is working the way I want it to except for when I click on the link. After I click on the link, the text changes to a different color and remains that same color even when I hover over the link. I am wanting to make it to where the color change on hover remains intact even after I click the link. I'm sure I am missing something simple, but I have tried everything I know to do with no luck. Any suggestions would be helpful! • How do browsers/PHP handle characters outside the set characterset?

  I'm looking into how characters are handled that are outside of the set characterset for a page. In this case the page is set to iso-8859-1, and the previous programmer decided to escape input using htmlentities($string,ENT_COMPAT). This is then stored into Latin1 tables in Mysql. As the table is set to the same character set as the page, I am wondering if that htmlentities step is needed. I did some experiments on http://floris.workingweb.nl/experiments/characters.php and it seems that for stuff inside Latin1 some characters are escaped, but for example with a Czech name they are not. Is this because those characters are outside of Latin1? If so, then the htmlentities can be removed, as it doesn't help for stuff outside of Latin1 anyway, and for within Latin1 it is not needed as far as I can see now...

  I'm currently writing an IRC bot. The scripts are loaded as perl modules in ZNC but the bot gets disconnected with an Input/Output error if I create a forked process. • Why does this attempt at preloading images with jQuery not work?

  Current I have this code: var imgCount = 36; var container = $('#3D-spin'); var loaded = 0; function onLoad() { alert(loaded); loaded++; if(loaded >= imgCount) { alert('yay'); } } for(var i = imgCount-1; i >= 0; i--) { container.prepend( $('<img>') .one('load', onLoad) .attr('alt', 'View from '+(i*360/imgCount)+'\u00B0') .attr('src', '/images/3d-spin/robot ('+i+').jpg') ); } However, it's behaving VERY strangely. Normally, I get no alert boxes. However, if I open developer tools, and pause script execution, I get a single alert that says 0. There's nothign like a good old heisenbug! A live example can be found here. The script itself is called style.js, and it is clear that images have loaded. Am I doing something stupidly, or is jQuery playing up?
