Stop Child Elements from Inheriting Parent Style, Broken Tabs Javascript

I am using the flowplayer jquery tabs plugin: http://flowplayer.org/tools/tabs/index.html Im having mucho difficulty when placing my child elements inside the panes divs, and stopping them from inheriting the style of the container pane div. Its breaking my layout to pieces and i need to know how to override the style and just keep the container panes div only to itself. Also, im having a devil of a time trying to call 2 different sets of tabs and panes. Im not getting the classes and IDs right, the javascript, or something along those lines. How would i set this up so i can call (tabs A / panes A) and then (tabs B / panes B), css wise, and javascript wise? How to call a javascript function from one frame to another in Chrome/Webkit

I have developped an application that has a list of items in one frame; when one clicks on an item it does something in another frame (loads an image). This used to work fine in all browsers, including Chrome 3; now it still works fine in FF but in recent versions of Chrome (I believe since 4) it throws this error: Unsafe JavaScript attempt to access frame with URL (...) from frame with URL (...). Domains, protocols and ports must match. This is obviously a security "feature" but is it possible to get around it? Here is a simple test: index.html: <html> <frameset> <frame src="left.html" name="left"/> <frame src="right.html" name="right"/> </frameset> </html> left.html: <html> <body> <a href="javascript:parent.right.test('hello');">click me</a> </body> </html> right.html: <html> <body> <script> function test(msg) { alert(msg); } </script> </body> </html> The above works in FF 3.6 and Chrome 3 but in Chrome 5 it throws the above error...

How to extract block of XML from a log file on Linux

I have a log file that looks like the following: 2010-05-12 12:23:45 Some sort of log entry 2010-05-12 01:45:12 Request XML: <RootTag> <Element>Value</Element> <Element>Another Value</Element> </RootTag> 2010-05-12 01:45:32 Response XML: <ResponseRoot> <Element>Value</Element> </ResponseRoot> 2010-05-12 01:45:49 Another log entry What I want to do is extract the Request and Response XML (and ultimately dump them into their own single files). I had a similar parser that used egrep but the XML was all on one line, not multiple ones like above. The log files are also somewhat large, hitting 500-600 megs a log. Smaller logs I would read in via a PHP script and use regex matching, but the amount of memory required for such a large file would more than likely kill the script. Is there an easy way using the built-in tools on a Linux box (CentOS in this case) to extract multiple lines or am I going to have to bite the bullet and use Perl or PHP to read in the entire file to extract it?

Read file:// URLs in IE XMLHttpRequest

I'm developing a JavaScript application that's meant to be run either from a web server (over http) or from the file system (on a file:// URL). As part of this code, I need to use XMLHttpRequest to load files in the same directory as the page and in subdirectories of the page. This code works fine ("PASS") when executed on a web server, but doesn't work ("FAIL") in Internet Explorer 8 when run off the file system: <html><head> <script> window.onload = function() { var xhr = new XMLHttpRequest(); xhr.open("GET", window.location.href, false); xhr.send(null); if (/TestString/.test(xhr.responseText)) { document.body.innerHTML="<p>PASS</p>"; } } </script> <body><p>FAIL</p></body> Of course, at first it fails because no scripts can run at all on the file system; the user is prompted a yellow bar, warning that "To help protect your security, Internet Explorer has restricted this webpage from running scripts or ActiveX controls that could access your computer." But even once I click on the bar and "Allow Blocked Content" the page still fails; I get an "Access is Denied" error on the xhr.open call. This puzzles me, because MSDN says that "For development purposes, the file:// protocol is allowed from the Local Machine zone." This local file should be part of the Local Machine Zone, right? How can I get code like this to work? I'm fine with prompting the user with security warnings; I'm not OK with forcing them to turn off security in the control panel. EDIT: I am not, in fact, loading an XML document in my case; I'm loading a plain text file (.txt).

I am using HTML select onchange event to fire another javascript function func1. This html select is written into a form element, which are dynamically generated when users click on a button. The problem is how can I fire the javascript func1 when the dynamically generated form is first shown ? I am thinking of something along the line of on_first_show event for form ? Prevent default on a click within a JQuery tabs in Google Chrome.

I would like to prevent the default behaviour of a click on a link. I tried the return false; also javascript:void(0); in the href attribute but it doesn’t seem to work. It works fine in Firefox, but not in Chrome and IE. Set "Start With" value for Oracle sequence dynamically

I'm trying to create a release script that can be deployed on multiple databases, but where the data can be merged back together at a later date. The obvious way to handle this is to set the sequence numbers for production data sufficiently high in subsequent deployments to prevent collisions. The problem is in coming up with a release script that will accept the environment number and set the "Start With" value of the sequences appropriately. Ideally, I'd like to use something like this: ACCEPT EnvironNum PROMPT 'Enter the Environment Number: ' --[more scripting] CREATE SEQUENCE seq1 START WITH &EnvironNum*100000; --[more scripting] This doesn't work because you can't evaluate a numeric expression in DDL. Another option is to create the sequences using dynamic SQL via PL/SQL. ACCEPT EnvironNum PROMPT 'Enter the Environment Number: ' --[more scripting] EXEC execute immediate 'CREATE SEQUENCE seq1 START WITH ' || &EnvironNum*100000; --[more scripting] However, I'd prefer to avoid this solution as I generally try to avoid issuing DDL in PL/SQL. Finally, the third option I've come up with is simply to accept the Start With value as a substitution variable, instead of the environment number. Does anyone have a better thought on how to go about this?

How do I get the sums of the digits of a large number in Haskell?

I'm a C++ Programmer trying to teach myself Haskell and it's proving to be challenging grasping the basics of using functions as a type of loop. I have a large number, 50!, and I need to add the sum of its digits. It's a relatively easy loop in C++ but I want to learn how to do it in Haskell. I've read some introductory guides and am able to get 50! with sum50fac.hs:: fac 0 = 1 fac n = n * fac n - 1 x = fac 50 main = print x Unfortunately at this point I'm not entirely sure how to approach the problem. Is it possible to write a function that adds (mod) x 10 to a value and then calls the same function again on x / 10 until x / 10 is less than 10? If that's not possible how should I approach this problem? Thanks!

search form in php via ajax

[Django] How to find out whether a model's column is a foreign key?

I'm dynamically storing information in the database depending on the request: // table, id and column are provided by the request table_obj = getattr(models, table) record = table_obj.objects.get(pk=id) setattr(record, column, request.POST['value']) The problem is that request.POST['value'] sometimes contains a foreign record's primary key (i.e. an integer) whereas Django expects the column's value to be an object of type ForeignModel: Cannot assign "u'122'": "ModelA.b" must be a "ModelB" instance. Now, is there an elegant way to dynamically check whether b is a column containing foreign keys and what model these keys are linked to? (So that I can load the foreign record by it's primary key and assign it to ModelA?) Or doesn't Django provide information like this to the programmer so I really have to get my hands dirty and use isinstance() on the foreign-key column?

For instance, consider pointers: In C++, is there any difference between arrays and pointers? The beginner will say yes, they are two completely different concepts, and treat them as such. The intermediate programmer (having learned that arrays are pointers internally) will tell you no, they are the same thing, and may miss some crucial bugs by interchanging them all willy-nilly. The expert, however, will again say they are different things (ex. see here or here). What other questions/mistakes are like this?

Jquery Cycle in Drupal - onAfter effect not working.

Im using the views slideshow module for drupal which uses the jquery cycle plugin. Here is my first simple slideshow where everything works properly: smartpeopletalkfast.co.uk/slideshow3/one Here is my 2nd slideshow: smartpeopletalkfast.co.uk/slideshow3/two Im trying to use the onAfter function. I want the next and previous buttons to be hidden when at the end of their cycle. This is demonstrated here: jquery.malsup.com/cycle/after.html The first slideshow that's working has these controls: prev: #prev1, next: #next1 The 2nd slideshow has these: prev: #prev1, next: #next1, end: onAfterr, timeout: 0 And Ive added this to the beginning of my document head. <script type="text/javascript"> function onAfterr(curr, next, opts) { var index = opts.currSlide; $('#prev1')[index == 0 ? But i would like that if user scrolls down, first the tittle appears, then the content and at the end the images. And then when user scrolls to the next box, the same process repeat's itself. I use some CSS3 delays, but in this case i don't know how long will user take to scroll down. thanks!

Most software houses I have been at have this attitude about their work. Get it done quick and move on. For programmers I find that the chill time is time that can be used to either improve infrastructure, refactor some old code or learn a new language. I would like to know what your throughts about 'chill time' if its the right attitude at all, and if so what to do with it. Is this sort of chilling helpful for a programmer, what are things you do with your own chill time if you adopt this approach to work.

What features of interpreted languages can a compiled one not have?

Interpreted languages are usually more high-level and therefore have features as dynamic typing (including creating new variables dynamically without declaration), the infamous eval and many many other features that make a programmer's life easier - but why can't compiled languages have these as well? I don't mean languages like Java that run on a VM, but those that compile to binary like C(++). I'm not going to make a list now but if you are going to ask which features I mean, please look into what PHP, Python, Ruby etc. have to offer. Which common features of interpreted languages can't/don't/do exist in compiled languages? Why?

Which ORM to use?

I'm developing an application which will have these classes: class Shortcut { public string Name { get; } public IList<Trigger> Triggers { get; } public IList<Action> Actions { get; } } class Trigger { public string Name { get; } } class Action { public string Name { get; } } And I will have 20+ more classes, which will derive from Trigger or Action, so in the end, I will have one Shortcut class, 15 Action-derived classes and 5 Trigger-derived classes. My question is, which ORM will best suit this application? EF, NH, SubSonic, or maybe something else (Linq2SQL)? I will be periodically releasing new application versions, adding more triggers and actions (or changing current triggers/actions), so I will have to update database schema as well. I don't know if EF or NH provides any good methods to easily update the schema. Or if they do, is there any tutorial how to do that? I've already found this article about NH schema updating, quoting: Fortunately NHibernate provides us the possibility to update an existing schema, that is NHibernate creates an update script which can the be applied to the database. I've never found how to actually generate the update script, so I can't tell NH to update the schema. Maybe I've misread something, I just didn't found it. Last note: If you suggest EF, will be EF 1.0 suitable as well? I would rather use some older .NET than 4.0.

Hello there, I am making this script that will rotate a needle on a tachometer using canvas. I am a newbie to this canvas. Swapping content in a seperate div on hover

I feel like this should work: $(".module .one").hover(function() { $("#viewport #one").addClass('red'); }); Basically I am hiding all the .children of "#viewport on load, then when a seperate element is hovered, in this case .module .one I want to change something on the corresponding viewport ID #viewport #one. Basic idea is a variable content window, where when a thumbnail or whatever I put in the modules swaps the content shown in the viewport. Something I am doing wrong?
