  • Halting Django's dev server via page request?

    I'm looking at writing a portable, light-weight Python app. As the "GUI toolkit" I'm most familiar with — by a wide margin! — is HTML/CSS/JS, I thought to use Django as a framework for the project, using its built-in "development server" (manage.py runserver). I've been banging on a proof-of-concept for a couple hours and the only real problem I've encountered so far is shutting down the server once the user has finished using the app. Ideally, I'd like there to be a link on the app's pages which shuts down the server and closes the page, but nothing I see in the Django docs suggests this is possible. Can this be done? For that matter, is this a reasonable approach for writing a small, portable GUI tool?

    In my app I try to scroll a UITableView to the top once after I updated the content of the table. However, under some circumstance, my table is EMPTY. So I got the following exception: Terminating app due to uncaught exception 'NSRangeException', reason: '-[UITableView scrollToRowAtIndexPath:atScrollPosition:animated:]: row (0) beyond bounds (0) for section (0).' how can I catch this exception? I tried NSIndexPath *indexPath = [NSIndexPath indexPathForRow:0 inSection:0]; if (indexPath != nil) { [EventTable scrollToRowAtIndexPath:indexPath atScrollPosition:UITableViewScrollPositionTop animated:YES]; } but it doesn't catch the exception because indexPath is not nil.

  • Initialize listitem with blanks?

    Say I have a list made up of a listitem which contains three strings. I add a new listitem, and try to assign the values of said strings from an outside source. If one of those items is unassigned, the value in the listitem remains as null (unassigned). As a result I get an error if I try to assign that value to a field on my page. I can do a check on isNullOrEmpty for each field on the page, but that seems inefficient. I'd rather initialize the values to "" (Empty string) in the codebehind and send valid data. I can do it manually: ClaimPwk emptyNode = new ClaimPwk(); emptyNode.cdeAttachmentControl = ""; emptyNode.cdeRptTransmission = ""; emptyNode.cdeRptType = ""; headerKeys.Add(emptyNode); But I have some BIG list items, and writing that for those will get tedious. So is there a command, or just plain an easier way to initialize a listitem to empty string as opposed to null? Or has anyone got a better idea?

I'm working on an app that would display a remote html and use local images, so what I'm trying to do is download the HTML of the website and display it as a "local" page, that would have access to images in my bundle. For some reason I can't get initWithContentsOfURL to work. I checked all manuals and examples I could find and it seems that I'm doing it correctly, but the thing just won't work, returns null all the time. The same page loaded with NSURLRequest requestWithURL works fine. Appreciate your help!   • asp.net MVC ActionMethod causing null exception on parameter

    I am trying to add filter functionality that sends a GET request to the same page to filter records in my table. The problem I am having is that the textbox complains about null object reference when a parameter is not passed. For example, when the person first views the page the url is '/mycontroller/myaction/'. Then when they apply a filter and submit the form it should be something like 'mycontroller/myaction?name=...' Obviously the problem stems from when the name value has not been passed (null) it is still trying to be bound to the 'name' textbox. Any suggestions on what I should do regarding this problem?   • Why are controls (null) in awakeFromNib?

    This is a follow on from another question regarding why I could not set UIControls in awakeFromNib. The answer to that is that as you can see below the controls are nil in the awakeFromNib, although they are initialised to the correct objects by the time we get to viewDidLoad. I setup the view the same as I always do, should I be doing something different to access them here, the xib(nib) was designed and saved with the current version of Image Builder.   • ASP.NET Web Service returning XML result and nodevalue is always null

    I have an ASP.NET web service which returns an XMLDocument. The web service is called from a Firefox extension using XMLHttpRequest. var serviceRequest = new XMLHttpRequest(); serviecRequest.setRequestHeader("Content-Type", "text/xml; charset=utf-8"); I consume the result using responseXML. So far so good. But when I iterate through the XML I retrieve nodeValue - nodeValue is always null. When I check the nodeType the nodeType is type 1 (Node.ELEMENT_NODE == 1). Node.NodeValue states all nodes of type Element will return null. In my webservice I have created a string with the XML i.e. xml="Hank" I then create the XmlDocument XmlDocument doc = new XmlDocument(); doc.LoadXML(string); I know I can specify the nodetype using using CreateNode. But when I am just building the xml by appending string values is there a way to change the nodeType to Text so Node.nodeValue will be "content of the text node".

    Using find . -print0 seems to be the only safe way of obtaining a list of files in bash due to the possibility of filenames containing spaces, newlines, quotation marks etc. However, I'm having a hard time actually making find's output useful within bash or with other command line utilities. The only way I have managed to make use of the output is by piping it to perl, and changing perl's IFS to null: find . -print0 | perl -e '$/="\0"; @files=<>; print $#files;' This example prints the number of files found, avoiding the danger of newlines in filenames corrupting the count, as would occur with: find . | wc -l As most command line programs do not support null-delimited input, I figure the best thing would be to capture the output of find . -print0 in a bash array, like I have done in the perl snippet above, and then continue with the task, whatever it may be. How can I do this? This doesn't work: find . -print0 | ( IFS=$'\0' ; array=( $( cat ) ) ; echo ${#array[@]} ) A much more general question might be: How can I do useful things with lists of files in bash?

    I am currently in the early stages of developing a couple web applications, I have not written any code yet as I am still just gathering requirements and scoping things out. I want to target ASP.Net 4.0 winforms as the platform for these apps but I want to make sure there are no glaring issues with this new version before I commit. I understand that if I was porting an existing app from 2.0, 3.5 to 4.0 there may be issues but I am starting from scratch on these projects and plan to write these apps to support the new features of 4.0. Should I wait for the first service pack to come out? Just seems like more work to start with 3.5 now only to go back through and tweak things for 4.0 in just a few months or even before I finish the app. Our servers are Win 2K3 with IIS6 and MS SQL 2000, Should I expect any problems with VS 2010 and MS SQL 2000 in regards to Linq to SQL and EF?

    Hi, We have a similar problem. We have a web application running under default appdomain. It was working fine until a week before...Suddenly it has encountered a problem. Below message is taken from event logs. Event code: 4005 Event message: Forms authentication failed for the request. Reason: The ticket supplied has expired. Application uses FormsAuthentication and gets the roles from aspnetdb.. After the error, when user logins to the page, it does not redirects to the default.aspx. Again login.aspx comes up. On the other hand application works fine on development server(localhost), but not on www(IIS 6.0). Does any one has an idea? Thanks, Ilknur

I've worked around it by simply setting the first item to a value of 1, but I was wondering though what's really going on here? This one has me scratching my head.   • Firefox extension dev: observing preferencies, avoid multiple notifications

    Let's say my Firefox extension has multiple preferences, but some of them are grouped, like check interval, fail retry interval, destination url. Those are used in just single function. When I subscribe to preference service and add observer, the observe callback will be called for each changed preference, so if by chance user changed all of the settings in group, then I will have to do the same routine for the same subsystem as many times as I have items in that preferences group. What I want is observe to be called just once for group of preferences. Say extensions.myextension.interval1 extensions.myextension.site extensions.myextension.retry so if one or all of those preferences are changed, I receive only 1 notification about it.

    Hello everyone, here my problem. I have a NavigationBar at the top, a TabBar at the bottom and a TableView at the center of the screen. Very normal situation. I set it all up in IB and I have set this in the app delegate : ExpensesListNavController *expensesListNavController; This in order to be able to add new views to the stack. I need to have 3 levels: - list of items in a TableView - OK - firstLevel: once pressed one cell a view is added to the stack - OK - second level: one pressed the "modify" button on the navBar on the firstLevel I want to show a new view that can be customized by the user. My Problem is coming when trying to add the "Modify" button in the "firstLevelView".     I'm getting an error using Google Maps API V3 that I don't understand. My initial map displays just fine, but when I try to get directions, I get the following two errors: Error: The value of the property 'GUnload' is null or undefined, not a Function object Error: Unable to get value of the property 'setDirections': object is null or undefined I'm not using GUnload anywhere, so I don't understand why I'm getting that error. As far as the second error is concerned, it's as if something is wrong with the Directions service.   • What causes markup-controls to be null?

    Ok, I have a very strange problem. I have a regular UserControl with some controls in the markup. At Page_Load these controls are still null. And I have tried EnsureChildControls It is laid out like this: Masterpage - Page - mycontrol1 - mycontrol2 - problemcontrol ProblemControl is where the controls are null. MyControl1 contains MyControl2. MyControl2 is another UserControl which contains ProblemControl in it's markup. Masterpage is nothing special and Page contains MyControl1 in it's markup. The only oddity is that ProblemControl is created dynamically at Page_Init. Everything works fine until I get to ProblemControl where none of the controls are being created. ProblemControl has the proper things all set such as the Page and Parent property. I do not see any problems. The source code for all of these(except ProblemControl) is pretty extensive, so I'm hoping someone can just give me some troubleshooting tips for this problem and if anyone has encountered it before. Also, I can place ProblemControl on another Page control and it will work fine, it's something about mycontrol1 and/or mycontrol2. But we've never had any problems with mycontrol1 and mycontrol2 doesn't have anything I can see wrong with it. (which I've been tediously analyzing for the past few hours). Has anyone else had this same problem? Are there any common things to check for?

    I am pulling down a large XML file and I have no control over it's structure. I used a custom function to use the tag name to view the tree structure as a flex tree, but then it breaks. I am guessing it has something to do with my other function, one that calls attribute values from the selected node.     At a new job, I've been getting flagged in code reviews for code like this: PowerManager::PowerManager(IMsgSender* msgSender) : msgSender_(msgSender) { } void PowerManager::SignalShutdown() { msgSender_->sendMsg("shutdown()"); } I'm told that last method should read: void PowerManager::SignalShutdown() { if (msgSender_) { msgSender_->sendMsg("shutdown()"); } } i.e., I must put a NULL guard around the msgSender_ variable, even though it is a private data member. It's difficult for me to restrain myself from using expletives to describe how I feel about this piece of 'wisdom'. When I ask for an explanation, I get a litany of horror stories about how some junior programmer, some-year, got confused about how a class was supposed to work and accidentally deleted a member he shouldn't have (and set it to NULL afterwards, apparently), and things blew up in the field right after a product release, and we've "learned the hard way, trust us" that it's better to just NULL check everything. To me, this feels like cargo cult programming, plain and simple. A few well-meaning colleagues are earnestly trying to help me 'get it' and see how this will help me write more robust code, but... I can't help feeling like they're the ones who don't get it. Is it reasonable for a coding standard to require that every single pointer dereferenced in a function be checked for NULL first—even private data members? (Note: To give some context, we make a consumer electronics device, not an air traffic control system or some other 'failure-equals-people-die' product.) EDIT: In the above example, the msgSender_ collaborator isn't optional. If it's ever NULL, it indicates a bug. The only reason it is passed into the constructor is so PowerManager can be tested with a mock IMsgSender subclass.
