  • Print Alternating Characters From Two Strings (Interleaving) Using Recursion Java

    - by babi2balla
I'm trying to write a method that uses recursion to print the string formed by "interleaving" the strings str1 and str2. In other words, it should alternate characters from the two strings: the first character from str1, followed by the first character from str2, followed by the second character from str1, followed by the second character from str2, etc. How would I go about this? Any ideas are greatly appreciated!! Thanks

  • How to tile a 30000 x 6000 image for a 480 x 320 screen?

    - by Horace Ho
(this is related to another question about implementation on iPhone) I have a large image, size around 30000 (w) x 6000 (h) pixels. You may consider it's like a big map. I assume I need to crop it up into smaller tiles. Questions: what is the tile strategy? Requirements: whole image (though cropped) can be scrolled up/down/left/right by swipes zoom in (up to pixel-to-pixel) out (down to screen-fit-by-height) by the 2-finger operation memory efficiency by lazy loading tiles Thanks!

  • Loop over a file and write the next line if a condition is met

    - by 111078384259264152964
Having a hard time fixing this or finding any good hints about it. I'm trying to loop over one file, modify each line slightly, and then loop over a different file. If the line in the second file starts with the line from the first then the following line in the second file should be written to a third file. !/usr/bin/env python with open('ids.txt', 'rU') as f: with open('seqres.txt', 'rU') as g: for id in f: id=id.lower()[0:4]+'_'+id[4] with open(id + '.fasta', 'w') as h: for line in g: if line.startswith(''+ id): h.write(g.next()) All the correct files appear, but they are empty. Yes, I am sure the if has true cases. :-) "seqres.txt" has lines with an ID number in a certain format, each followed by a line with data. The "ids.txt" has lines with the ID numbers of interest in a different format. I want each line of data with an interesting ID number in its own file. Thanks a million to anyone with a little advice!

  • Javascript string replace with calculations

    - by Chris
Is there a way to resolve mathematical expressions in strings in javascript? For example, suppose I want to produce the string "Tom has 2 apples, Lucy has 3 apples. Together they have 5 apples" but I want to be able to substitute in the variables. I can do this with a string replacement: string = "Tom has X apples, Lucy has Y apples. Together they have Z apples"; string2 = string.replace(/X/, '2').replace(/Y/, '3').replace(/Z/, '5'); However, it would be better if, instead of having a variable Z, I could use X+Y. Now, I could also do a string replace for X+Y and replace it with the correct value, but that would become messy when trying to deal with all the possible in-string calculations I might want to do. I suppose I'm looking for a way to achieve this: string = "Something [X], something [Y]. Something [(X+Y^2)/5X]"; And for the [_] parts to be understood as expressions to be resolved before substituting back into the string. Thanks for your help.

  • Improve my php image resizer to support alpha png and transparent GIFs

    - by David
    Hi, I use this function to resize images but i end up with ugly creepy image with a black background if it's a transparent GIF or PNG with alpha, however it works perfectly for jpg and normal png. function cropImage($nw, $nh, $source, $stype, $dest) { $size = getimagesize($source); $w = $size[0]; $h = $size[1]; switch($stype) { case 'gif': $simg = imagecreatefromgif($source); break; case 'jpg': $simg = imagecreatefromjpeg($source); break; case 'png': $simg = imagecreatefrompng($source); break; } $dimg = imagecreatetruecolor($nw, $nh); switch ($stype) { case "png": imagealphablending( $dimg, false ); imagesavealpha( $dimg, true ); $transparent = imagecolorallocatealpha($dimg, 255, 255, 255, 127); imagefilledrectangle($dimg, 0, 0, $nw, $nh, $transparent); break; case "gif": // integer representation of the color black (rgb: 0,0,0) $background = imagecolorallocate($simg, 0, 0, 0); // removing the black from the placeholder imagecolortransparent($simg, $background); break; } $wm = $w/$nw; $hm = $h/$nh; $h_height = $nh/2; $w_height = $nw/2; if($w> $h) { $adjusted_width = $w / $hm; $half_width = $adjusted_width / 2; $int_width = $half_width - $w_height; imagecopyresampled($dimg,$simg,-$int_width,0,0,0,$adjusted_width,$nh,$w,$h); } elseif(($w <$h) || ($w == $h)) { $adjusted_height = $h / $wm; $half_height = $adjusted_height / 2; $int_height = $half_height - $h_height; imagecopyresampled($dimg,$simg,0,-$int_height,0,0,$nw,$adjusted_height,$w,$h); } else { imagecopyresampled($dimg,$simg,0,0,0,0,$nw,$nh,$w,$h); } imagejpeg($dimg,$dest,100); } I use php 5.3.2 and the GD library bundled (2.0.34 compatible) Thanks

  • Removing the transperancy from image while keeping the actual image

    - by KPL
Hello people, I have three images, and , they are not square or rectangular in shape. They are just like face of anyone. So,basically, my images are in the size 196x196 or anything like that, but complete square or rectangle with the face in the middle and transperant background in the rest of the portion. Now, I want to remove the transperant background too and just keep the faces. Don't know if this is possible and mind you, this isn't a programming question.

  • Image editor component in Flex / JavaScript

    - by nobby
Hi everyone, I'm looking for a simple Flex or JavaScript based image editing component which can be embedded in a web application. It shouldn't be a web service but rather a component that I can download and customize (i18n etc.). I only need some basic features: most important is cropping, optional features would be rotating and adjusting brightness/contrast. Basically something like splashup.com, but as an open source application rather than a web-service. Thanks a lot in advance for any hints! -- Andreas

  • comparing actual IP with partial IP in PHP

    - by aslum
Using PHP I'd like to compare an actual ip address to part of one, and see if it matches. For example I want to see if the address matches 12.34.. <?php $rem_address = getenv('REMOTE_ADDR'); $temp = substr ($rem_address,0,6) if ($temp == "12.34.") echo "It's a match"; ?> Is there an easier/better way to do this?

  • What's wrong with this code to un-camel-case a string?

    - by omair iqbal
Here is my attempt to solve the About.com Delphi challenge to un-camel-case a string. unit challenge1; interface uses Windows, Messages, SysUtils, Variants, Classes, Graphics, Controls, Forms, Dialogs, StdCtrls; type check = 65..90; TForm1 = class(TForm) Edit1: TEdit; Button1: TButton; procedure Button1Click(Sender: TObject); private { Private declarations } public { Public declarations } end; var Form1: TForm1; var s1,s2 :string; int : integer; implementation {$R *.dfm} procedure TForm1.Button1Click(Sender: TObject); var i: Integer; checks : set of check; begin s1 := edit1.Text; for i := 1 to 20 do begin int :=ord(s1[i]) ; if int in checks then insert(' ',s1,i-1); end; showmessage(s1); end; end. check is a set that contains capital letters so basically whenever a capital letter is encountered the insert function adds space before its encountered (inside the s1 string), but my code does nothing. ShowMessage just shows text as it was entered in Edit1. What have I done wrong?

  • How to replace characters in a java String?

    - by ManBugra
I like to replace a certain set of characters of a string with a corresponding replacement character in an efficent way. For example: String sourceCharacters = "šdccŠÐCCžŽ"; String targetCharacters = "sdccSDCCzZ"; String result = replaceChars("Gracišce", sourceCharacters , targetCharacters ); Assert.equals(result,"Gracisce") == true; Is there are more efficient way than to use the replaceAll method of the String class? My first idea was: final String s = "Gracišce"; String sourceCharacters = "šdccŠÐCCžŽ"; String targetCharacters = "sdccSDCCzZ"; // preparation final char[] sourceString = s.toCharArray(); final char result[] = new char[sourceString.length]; final char[] targetCharactersArray = targetCharacters.toCharArray(); // main work for(int i=0,l=sourceString.length;i<l;++i) { final int pos = sourceCharacters.indexOf(sourceString[i]); result[i] = pos!=-1 ? targetCharactersArray[pos] : sourceString[i]; } // result String resultString = new String(result); Any ideas? Btw, the UTF-8 characters are causing the trouble, with US_ASCII it works fine.

  • How would I detect horizontal-black lines using ImageMagick?

    - by Zando
So I have what is essentially a spreadsheet in TIFF format. There is some uniformity to it...for example, all the column widths are the same. I want to de-limit this sheet by those known-column widths and basically create lots of little graphic files, one for each cell, and run OCR on them and store it into a database. The problem is that the horizontal lines are not all the same height, so I need to use some kind of graphics library command to check if every pixel across is the same color (i.e. black). And if so, then I know I've reached the height-delimiter for a cell. How would I go about doing that? (I'm using RMagick)

  • Extracting URLs (to array) in Ruby

    - by FearMediocrity
Good afternoon, I'm learning about using RegEx's in Ruby, and have hit a point where I need some assistance. I am trying to extract 0 to many URLs from a string. This is the code I'm using: sStrings = ["hello world: http://www.google.com", "There is only one url in this string http://yahoo.com . Did you get that?", "The first URL in this string is http://www.bing.com and the second is http://digg.com","This one is more complicated http://is.gd/12345 http://is.gd/4567?q=1", "This string contains no urls"] sStrings.each do |s| x = s.scan(/((http|https):\/\/[a-z0-9]+([\-\.]{1}[a-z0-9]+)*\.[a-z]{2,5}(([0-9]{1,5})?\/.[\w-]*)?)/ix) x.each do |url| puts url end end This is what is returned: http://www.google.com http .google nil nil http://yahoo.com http nil nil nil http://www.bing.com http .bing nil nil http://digg.com http nil nil nil http://is.gd/12345 http nil /12345 nil http://is.gd/4567 http nil /4567 nil What is the best way to extract only the full URLs and not the parts of the RegEx? Thanks Jim

  • Suggestion to reverse string in c#

    - by HasanGursoy
    Is this the right method to reverse a string? I'm planning to use it to reverse a string like: Products » X1 » X3 to X3 « X1 « Products I want it to be a global function which can be used elsewhere. public static string ReverseString(string input, string separator, string outSeparator) { string result = String.Empty; string[] temp = Regex.Split(input, separator, RegexOptions.IgnoreCase); Array.Reverse(temp); for (int i = 0; i < temp.Length; i++) { result += temp[i] + " " + outSeparator + " "; } return result; }

  • Better name for CHAR_BIT?

    - by Potatoswatter
I was just checking an answer and realized that CHAR_BIT isn't defined by headers as I'd expect, not even by #include <bitset>, on newer GCC. Do I really have to #include <climits> just to get the "functionality" of CHAR_BIT?

  • [bash] Escape a string for sed search pattern

    - by Alexander Gladysh
In my bash script I have an external (received from user) string, which I should use in sed pattern. REPLACE="<funny characters here>" sed "s/KEYWORD/$REPLACE/g" How can I escape the $REPLACE string so it would be safely accepted by sed as a literal replacement? NOTE: The KEYWORD is a dumb substring with no matches etc. It is not supplied by user.
