  Hey all, I have Facebook Toolkit for .NET and I am trying to check whether my application has permissions for a user. I have the userId of the user, and I am trying to do: _facebookAPI.Session.RequiredPermissions = listExtended; _facebookAPI.Session.SessionKey = Resources.FbApplicationKey; _facebookAPI.Session.SessionSecret = Resources.FbSecretKey; _facebookAPI.Session.Login(); if (_facebookAPI.Users.HasAppPermission(Enums.ExtendedPermissions.publish_stream) && _facebookAPI.Users.HasAppPermission(Enums.ExtendedPermissions.offline_access)) I get session is invalid error. How can I check permissions in offline mode? thank you

  I am trying to integrate my asp.net 4.0(non MVC) website with facebook. I want to retrive the authenticated user info. The samples listed in facebooksdk is based on MVC. i tried to implement it in my website, but getting errors. i am struck. If anyone implemented the facebook connect logic and retrieved the user information using facebook-c#-sdk, please help me how to do this. I tried the same using facebooktoolkit, and i am able to retrive the user info. but the toolkit is having issues with .net 4.0. Greatly appreciated your help.

  using ASP.NET 3.5 WebForm using C# 3.0, is it possible to setup a RS 232 communication with a device? I need the WebForm to be able to read and write data to the serial port. I would appreciate if there are some good examples, thanks. I understand that under Components, there is a SerialPort .NET Component, but it seems to me that it can only be used in a Windows application (WinForm). • Combining features from other projects in an ASP.NET MVC application

  Hello, I am writing an ASP.NET MVC application that combines a set of features from existing applications. The new application is suppose to use UI features and logic created (especially for this purpose) in the existing applications. For that reason I wanted to create in the existing applications some kind of a "blackbox" that I will be able to drop in my new application along with a matching connection string, and it will work independently, binding data on it's own. I thought about using partial views, but I am having trouble with passing the model data to it, since the controller of the new application should not know about the model of the existing applications. I can not use ASP.NET WebForms, since my application should be a "postback-less" application, and ASP.NET AJAX toolkit or frameworks alike are out of the question.   I'm a front end Flex developer peeking over the wall at html. One of the things I have a hard time with is weak typing in Javascript. I know many developers say they prefer it. How do I stop worrying and learn to love the weak typing? Are there best practices for variable naming that help make var types human readable? Another thing I have trouble with is getting by without my trusted compiler errors and warnings. I'm getting along with firebug. Is there anything else I should have in my toolkit?

• Halting Django's dev server via page request?

  I'm looking at writing a portable, light-weight Python app. As the "GUI toolkit" I'm most familiar with — by a wide margin! — is HTML/CSS/JS, I thought to use Django as a framework for the project, using its built-in "development server" (manage.py runserver). I've been banging on a proof-of-concept for a couple hours and the only real problem I've encountered so far is shutting down the server once the user has finished using the app. Ideally, I'd like there to be a link on the app's pages which shuts down the server and closes the page, but nothing I see in the Django docs suggests this is possible. Can this be done? For that matter, is this a reasonable approach for writing a small, portable GUI tool?

  I've been working on a Django project using South to track and manage database schema changes. I'm starting a new Java project using Google Web Toolkit and wonder if there is an equivalent tool. For those who don't know, here's what South does: Automatically recognize changes to my Python database models (add/delete columns, tables etc.) Automatically create SQL statements to apply those changes to my database Track the applied schema migrations and apply them in order Allow data migrations using Python code. For example, splitting a name field into a first-name and last-name field using the Python split() function I haven't decided on my Java ORM yet, but Hibernate looks like the most popular. For me, the ability to easily make database schema changes will be an important factor.

  Hi, I've started using mvvm-light toolkit , and new to WPF. My question is: I want to create an pplication where the main window includes a grid with 2 columns 1 col command and col2 will display views when each command will be pressed. i want the views to be created on command and colsed from it's own view. I've tried to figure out how to do it but with no success. I don't know how to write this kind of funconality using the mvvm light.   I'm writing an application that sends files over network, I want to develop a custom protocol to not limit myself in term on feature richness (http wouldn't be appropriate, the nearest thing is the bittorrent protocol maybe). I've tried with twisted, I've built a good app but there's a bug that makes my GUI blocking, so I've to switch to another framework/strategy. What do you suggest? Using raw sockets and using gtk mainloop (there are select-like functions in the toolkit) is too much difficult? It's viable running two mainloops in different threads? Asking for suggestions

• Can I use Blender to create 3D wall image viewer application under Linux?

  Hi, Is that possible to use Blender to create Cooliris-like 3D wall image viewer application under Linux? I don't see many people use Blender (BGE) to create desktop application, so I am wondering if this is possible. People normally use Blender for modeling/movie and game engine. I can not find a good way to create 3D application in Linux so far. I was thinking about pyQT+opengl. But I feel that is hard to do. No robust and easy-to-use qt+opengl toolkit available from my research. I know a little bit of Blender, that's why I am asking if Blender is an alternative solution. (python is preferred) The image viewer doesn't have to be windowed. It can be full screen, like a game?. I would like to add many cool effects into this application. Hopefully cooler than Cooliris which is written in flash. Thanks a lot.

• OpenCL support on Leopard

  I want to use OpenCL in my software but I am running Leopard. I will probably update to Snow Leopard later. In the mean time I would like to get started with OpenCL in Leopard. Setting up on 10.5 is confusing: most SDKs and articles assume that you must be using Snow Leopard. Searching for "Using OpenCL on Leopard" is completely useless, as you would expect. I downloaded the cuda toolkit, devdriver and gpucomputing SDK from nvidia but the examples won't compile because OpenCL/opencl.h is not found. The OpenCL release notes don't mention MacOSX so again I think this is assuming that all Mac users are running Snow Leopard. Where can I find OpenCL includes and libraries for Mac OSX 10.5 ? Or, is this just a waste of time and I should go and get Snow Leopard ASAP ? After upgrading to Snow Leopard I would like my software to support Leopard. Is this possible ?

• [C#] Running elevated applications on user login with UAC?

  I need to start a program every time the user logs in, but I cannot do this without being met by a UAC dialog asking for permissions for that application. Is there any way to have an application start up on user login without the user having to answer the UAC prompt? I was thinking about running a service, but this would be a last resort. I saw something about an Application Compatibility Toolkit to disable UAC for certain applications, but I feel this is too big of a hassle - even services would be easier to program. I was just wondering if there is an even easier solution I am missing. Thanks in advance.

• Silverlight + Facebook DTK API -> SecurityException ONLY on Mac and Firefox...

  I have a SilverLight application which throws a security exception when running on FireFox for Macs. The exact same application works fine on Windows (Internet Explorer, FireFox, Chrome, Opera) and on Safari for Macs. I am using the Facebook Developer Toolkit available on Codeplex. The exception is thrown when the user launches the App. At that time I use the SilverLight Facebook API to run some queries using: facebookAPI.Fql.MultiqueryAsync(queries, QueryAppUsersCompleted, dispatcher); In my callback function QueryAppUsersCompleted, the FacebookException does not evaluate to null, and its innerException property has a SecurityException in it. Any help would be tremendously appreciated.

• Webserver for publishing adjusted images

  I want to create webserver which will be receiving data (images probably) from webclients who will be uploading these photos. And then the webserver must execute some graphic programs (client select whichone) to modify the image(s). After the graphic program is done, the results (output image(s)) will be uploaded to the web temp database (by webserver) to publish results of graphic programs. I found the C++ web toolkit (http://www.webtoolkit.eu), but I'm not sure if this is a suitable C/C++ library for me because I haven't any experiences with making C/C++ web apps/servers. Can someone tell me some advice please? The webserver should have some SDK too, for adding next graphic programs. I'm searching only for any C/C++ tools/libraries/etc.

  One of the main strength of GWT is to code in java and everything gets compiled and is loaded by several browsers through gwt deferred binding?? Apart from this, i.e. working only on a single code base, do GWT has any other advantage compared to other existing framework?? Edit: I'm trying to say why should we use gwt and not another framework?? What is there in GWT that makes it special for web application development?? What GWT makes for us and another framework or toolkit don't do?? As i said above GWT makes deferred binding which is a plus, so I wanted what other things it do that makes it special and unique??

  I'm kinda new to Dojo toolkit. There are certain issues which I would like to get enlightened (I googled but I didn't get any appropriate & satisfying answers) I have a dojo.js(Perhaps the uncompressed dojo.js downloaded) in my already running application (Developed by another software developer). How to find out which version of dojo.js he has downloaded and is being used right now? (Its not commented. I checked) a) While I'm trying to run my application in IE-8 (Opening a pop-up on click of a button), I get error which is pointing me to this line of code if(dojo.isIE&&window.location.protocol==="file:") Note: Its working fine in IE6 but the issue is with IE8 & to be even more specific the JS error is displayed only for the first time when I'm clicking the button. b) Is it true that dojo 1.3 & above is the best & stable release for IE8?
