• Turn Off Sleep on Seagate GoFlex?

  I bought this 2tb Segate GoFlex this last Black Friday and since then every 15 minutes or so the drive spins down, and then a little while later completely dismounts. Very annoying. From what I understand you could turn this off using the including Windows and Mac only software. This function and what controls it isn't proprietary, right? There has to be something that'll let me set it in Ubuntu... Anyone have any suggestions? Also, I formatted it to EXT4. Hope I didn't screw myself up. :/

• java.awt -- when java outputs an image to my monitor (screen), where is the file that is output to the monitor card?

  Suppose that I am drawing a set of images using java graphics objects. Suppose that I java is outputting these images to my monitor. Where is the file or files that are sent to the monitor card (the graphical representation files). How can I take this file and save it to disk, or how can I take this file and write it to an array, or how can I take these files and combine the results of their output (to the monitor) into a single file for saving? I don't want to use a screen shot feature, I want to be able to redirect (xor capture also) the output to the monitor to some sort of byte-stream. I note that monitors are much better than semaphores, when you are talking about display capabilities; I don't need a counter example. I might not be asking the correct question. It might be that I want to capture the file while it is still in User Space, before it is put into 'Device Space'. I would like to try and capture the byte stream so that I can convert it to MPEG-4 format. I either need a streaming output from the MPEG-4 converter, coming from the streaming input, or else, I need to take static images at discrete times and convert the images. What format will the output from User Space be in? What format will the Device Space output be in? For example. I have a database that has orders and customers. An order has one and only one customer and a customer can have many orders. How can I setup external content types in such a way that when in the list view of these external content types, I can jump between and possible lookup values to that other type?

• Have an external java application by notified of changes to Entity EJBs in JBoss AS

  I'm trying to connect an external application to a JBoss AS container. The external application is a Java application that is currently being notified of changes to database entities through a JMS topic. I've added an EntityLifecycleListener class to all my entities that publishes a serialized (and unwrapped) copy of the entity to the JMS topic. The problem is that this implementation ignores the transaction boundaries of the JBoss container. For example, the @PostUpdate event can be fire, generating the JMS message for that entity, but the transaction could be rolled back causing the external application to be notified of an invalid change and become unsync'd. I need my external application to only be notified of successful commits to the database, but I need to be able to publish the entire java POJO to the external application. Is there an official way of doing this?

• How to suppress an unwanted external Autodiscover lookup?

  In a small network with Exchange 2007, when starting Outlook 2010 (and once in a while afterwards), users get a prompt to confirm that it's safe to get account configuration information from cpanelemaildiscovery.cpanel.net/autodiscover/autodiscover.xml (I could read in a couple of forums that there is a bug in cpanel, but that's beside the point.) I'm puzzled because I can't find any autodiscover DNS entries anywhere, neither internally nor externally. The only hint is that we use an external hosting company for our website and for one single email address, which runs on cpanel. So I guess that Outlook makes an external DNS query to test all entries? It reates a lot of confusion for the users and frankly I'm not too happy that the external hosting company gets contacted by all our users. How can I suppress this behavior? Thanks

• How to handle external and internal DNS on windows 2012

  I'm trying to setup an Active Directory network on Server 2012 R2, and want AD's DNS to only be used internally (Ex: domain-controller.company.com) as well as some records that need both internal and external accessibility (Ex: mail.company.com) that use internal IP's on the internal network and finally some records that only need external access. The only solutions i have been able to think of, or look up are to either use a sub domain that handles all internal records, and use the plain company.com domain for all external records. These both seem to mean i have to manage two DNS servers separately. Is either of these the best ways or am i messing up somewhere?

  I am setting up a virtual test lab and I configured a domain controller VM running Windows 2008 R2 on my Hyper-V 2008 R2 server. I needed to download and install updates on it so I added an External NIC adapter and got that done. However, systems on my actual real physical domain were pulling IPs from this server and that was a big oopsy on my part so I immediately removed the External NIC adapter until I could find out how to go about keeping the Private and the External separate.   I am using Windows 7 and I have enabled my "S.M.A.R.T" check, too. I have bought an external 1 TB USB hard drive. When it is connected with my computer, it delays my machine initial start with about 4-5 minutes. I was very confused at the begging, then disable the "S.M.A.R.T" check and see that the computer runs normally after restart. So, here is what I want to know: Why the check is turn for the external disk? Is there a way to use the "S.M.A.R.T" check only for my main hard drive? Why it takes 4 to 5 minutes more, as my both hard drives - internal/external are 1 TB?

  If I've got a typical home router -- say a Net Gear -- which has certain ports forwarded to a internal server, is there a way to tweak the router to let me access that internal server using the external IP address from within the same network? Is there a non-enterprise grade router that can handle this type of thing? In case that was strangely worded, let me re-phrase with an example. My external IP is 1.2.3.4. My internal server is 10.4.3.100 Port 1178 is being forwarded from the router to 10.4.3.100. I'd like to be able to be able to hit 10.4.3.100 from an internal ip of 10.4.3.10 by using the external ip of 1.2.3.4. Possible?

  In postfix, I'm using relay_host to send an email to an external address using sendgrid, but I get an error about local ricipient table when sending an email from my PHP code.   I'd like to enable the new Domain Keys DKIM email authentication feature for a domain hosted in Google Apps. Some of my users use an external SMTP gateway (such that when they send email, it doesn't go through smtp.gmail.com). I have an SPF record configured for the domain, and this allows the external SMTP gateways as valid SMTP hosts. (I realise SPF is different to DKIM) Will enabling DKIM adversely affect the external gateway email? eg. Are the externally sent emails at risk of being marked as spam because they would not have the DKIM signature, or will DKIM only positively benefit emails sent through Google's SMTP server?

I had my old laptop connected, (with a 9600mgt) and it worked fine.I am not mirroring the display I just want an extension ( if possible only the external display diplaying). • scp vs netatalk, samba, and/or vsftpd with External USB drive

  I set up a ubuntu server machine to share an ext2 formatted external usb drive. When attempting to copy a single 275MB files from said device through netatalk, I get estimated download rates at around 45 min. With samba and ftp (using vsftpd) I get 1+ hours! Using scp to copy the file results in complete download within 5 minutes. Another option, ssh+cp from external device to ~ and then using netatalk to grab it from there results in a total time of arounf 7 minutes. Does anyone have a clue what is misconfigured? Assuming that nothing is, is there any fs/pseudo-fs that would use the internal hdd as an intermediate location/onion-layer for the external hdd (for reads only)? • Shuttle FB51 mobo does not boot with external USB drive attached [closed]

  I am repurposing an old Alienware desktop as a home media server. The PC is based on the Shuttle FB51 motherboard. The BIOS is a Phoenix Version 6.00 PG, release date 12/16/2002. I have loaded Ubuntu 12.04 LTS on the internal hard drive. I am using a Western Digital WD Elements 1.5 TB USB 2.0 Desktop External Hard Drive for media storage. When the external drive is plugged in and the PC is powered on, it freezes very early in the BIOS self-test, even before it begins the memory test. If I unplug the drive, the self-test proceeds without further problems. I can plug the USB drive back in when the self-test is complete, and Ubuntu will boot and find the external drive normally. I've tried several changes to the BIOS setup without finding a cure for the boot issue. Any assistance gratefully accepted. JGB

• Seagate 1TB 'EXPANSION' external hard drive, showing as BAD

  Hello! I have bough an external Seagate 1TB drive, which my XP system can see and will write files to, however when I use Partition Magic it describes the whole partition as BAD, and it is shown in yellow. All the options are greyed out. When I use Drive Image XML to try and copy drive to drive (I want a comlplete copy of my C drive including OS), I get an error message saying it can't lock the drive. The external drive is brand new and uses NTFS. Any ideas? Seagate 'support' haven't bothered getting back to me. Incidentally, I have another external drive (320GB), which uses FAT32 and Partition Magic sees that fine. I am doing a full format of the Seagate at the moment, to see if this helps. • Exchange and external mail server

  Hi, We have our domain hosted externally with Network Solutions, and our mail server is running from there. We have a branch office in Bahrain and have 3 users who would like to use their email addresses on a local exchange server running at the Bahrain office. The Exchange server is currently only used for internal mail,contacts and calendaring. I've used a third=party program to download the POP3 mail to their exchange accounts. so they can receive mail from outside. The issue is in sending mail using their external addresses. I've setup their exchange accounts to include their external address. But we get an error message stating that the IP is not authorized. I tried putting the local ISP as the smart host, but then we get an error message stating that the Address was rejected. I tried using our own external mail server as the smart host, but then the message "Relaying is denied" comes up. Any suggestions? Thanks Arun

• Cannot Access Server from External IP (Router)

  We have an Ubuntu 10.04 LAMP server running on site (Apache is on port 80). It is running fine through the LAN, but I cannot access it using its external IP address through the Netopia 3000 Series modem by which it is connected to the internet. I have tried using what Netopia calls "Pinholes" (Port Forwarding) to make the server accessible, but a telnet to the external address just gives me "connect to address x.x.x.x: Operation timed out." I have also tried enabling "Services" and "IP Passthrough" on the router, but it gives the same result as above. How can I enable the server to be accessed through its external IP address? Because it connects fine locally, it would seem to be a problem with the Netopia router. Update: Booting the server in GUI mode instead of text mode solved the problem instantly. Any ideas why?

Unfortunately virtual box doesn't enumerate the external harddrive in the options menu of the virtual machine, even though it shows all other devices connected to the host. Windows can find the harddrive, but obviously just gives me the option to reformat it, because it doesn't support ext4. • Misaligned Display on Resume

  I have an odd issue with my laptop display when resuming from suspend. When I have an additional monitor connected there is no issue. However without an additional monitor connected, after resuming only the left 10% of the laptop screen (just enough to show the Unity Launcher and a bit more) is visibly working, although strangely in a screenshot this same 10% is shown on the right hand side of the screenshot: I ran xrandr --verbose before and after resume, and the only difference (using diff) was: 2c2 < LVDS connected 1366x768+0+0 (0x98) normal (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 344mm x 194mm --- > LVDS connected 1366x768+1280+0 (0x98) normal (normal left inverted right x axis y axis) 344mm x 194mm This seems to suggest the screen position has been shifted by 1280 horizontally, the width of the second monitor I use. Indeed, running the command xrandr --output LVDS --pos 0x0 does bring the screen back to normal. However, I don't want to have to run this command every time, I'd prefer to cure the source of the problem than just correct the symptoms. Any ideas on how to get Ubuntu to keep the display configuration settings from before suspend when it resumes? or why it changes at all?
